A/N: I am evil. There is no other explanation for why it took me from 8/26/2012 to 10/31/2013 inorder to update this story when, by all logic, it should have been out within a week. My explanation for the wait? I've contracted zombie-ism. Yeah, right. My thanks to my beta: GuardianSoulBlade, who putts up with me being evil. Happy Halloween.
Chapter Five
Cyborg POV
I'd gathered everyone around Raven's bed to tell them the news. "Guys, I don't know how to tell you this..." I started.
"Is Raven dead?" asked Beast Boy forlornly. You had to feel sorry for the guy. His crush was lying there, hadn't moved in at least thirty-six hours, possibly dead. What happened to Terra just made it worse. If Raven died, she'd be his second crush to do so, and the guy'd only ever had two.
I sighed, "That's not an easy question."
"Cyborg, we're not doctors, we just need a straight answer," Robin said simply, I decided not to point out that I wasn't a doctor either. This wasn't nearly as bad for Robin as for Beast Boy, but Robin had thought of Raven like a little sister. This was really hard on everyone.
"The bad news then: she hasn't been breathing on her own for at least twenty-four hours, and her heart hasn't been beating for at least that long, so we've had her on life support. So yes, in that sense, she's dead. But she has shown no other signs of death, it's like her body's paused itself. In that sense, she's not dead, at least," I finished, confused.
"So, how is that possible?" asked Robin. Starfire had been close to tears when we started, but a glimmer of hope had entered her eyes.
"Honestly? I have no idea. Like I said, she's on life support, but she has no right to be in the condition she is. Besides, life support doesn't seem to be helping. Maybe it's because she's half-demon? Or it could be something else entirely."
"When will Raven wake up?" asked Starfire shakily.
I shrugged, "Sometime between now, and never."
"Could you be less specific?" demanded Beast Boy, pissed off.
"Look, I'm doing what I can, but there's not a lot I can do! Right now, I just recommend we let her be and see what happens," it was the best I could say.
Everyone started to leave the room, Starfire was trying not to cry and Robin was comforting her, but as I walked out, Beast Boy blocked my path, "Cyborg, if she doesn't make it, I'm blaming you!"
Raven POV
"What!?" I screamed, losing control of my emotions.
"Raven! Calm down! You'll scare Timid," Wisdom said in a vain attempt to relax me.
"Calm down! You just told me my heart's not beating!" my right hand flew to find a pulse on my left wrist... nothing. My neck... nothing!
Wisdom calmly took my hand, and put it to her neck... there was no pulse. "It's the same for everyone," she explained simply.
Wisdom was bustling around the room, readying a simple potion that should wake me up, or rather, release me from Nevermore.
"You're sure we're going to be fine?" asked Timid.
"Yes, Timid. I'm certain we'll be fine," reassured Wisdom, but I could see the worry in her eyes.
I watched while Wisdom poured a pink powder and a dark blue liquid into a glass beaker containing a red liquid. I was confused when the whole thing turned bright green. "And one more ingredient..." she muttered to herself, "Aha! There it is!" she pulled an eye dropper filled with what appeared to be blood from the drawer.
At the sight of this, my mouth began to water. I could see it was having the same effect on Brave, Rude and Timid: though Timid began to burst into tears again at the sight of it. She was disgusted with herself, and I mirrored her sentiment.
Rude had no such inhibitions, however, "Give me that blood!" she screamed as she charged Wisdom. Brave, fortunately, had enough self control to tackle Rude before she got to Wisdom, however.
Wisdom dabbed four drops into the beaker. She handed me the beaker, "Drink. Don't worry, it's not real blood."
"What!?" screeched Rude as she wrestled Brave. Timid looked like she would vomit.
"None of the blood samples you might find in Nevermore can sustain you, they aren't real. You'll need real blood to sustain you. Now, drink!" she forced the beaker to my mouth. The second the liquid touched my tongue, I was out cold.
