Chapter 2

"Alfred! Time to wake up and do your chores!" His mother's screeching bade called him as bright blue eyes opened, yawning and struggling out of his bed. "I'm up mom!" He hollered back, he then looked at the clock. 8:43!? Who the hell would wake up at this ungodly hour?!

…oh right, him.

He wobbled to his dresser, rubbing the eye-snot from the corners of his eyes, and managed to get dressed without too much trouble, though he had to twist his t-shirt a couple of times to make sure the tag was in the back. He looked to the little devils hanging on his mirror, debating whether or not to put them on.

A long while ago, his father had showed him how to play the Mortal games on the weird, glowy box, he might've been eight or something at the time, but recently, he's had to get these weird glass-on-wire objects at a mortal doctor's clinic.

He decided to leave them, they were only for reading and when he was mowing down zombies in a mortal shopping mall, and the chances of him reading today or any given day was slim.

Maybe hours later, while he was playing with his pet bald eagle, Captain, something flew from the tree's, big brown feathered object swooping down, dive-bombing and releasing an object right onto his head. "What the-?!" his hands flew to his head as Captain jumped off his arm, taking his movement as an order to react to the little flying bastard, chasing after it, and both of them disappearing into the forest.

His head wasn't wet so he hadn't been shat on, thank God, but what was all that for then? He looked around, there was a letter next to his butt. He picked it up, nearly tore it in two trying to get the old-fashioned wax-seal off, and saw the annoying green squiggly lines that immediately rendered Al confused.

He stood, walking into the house, completely forgetting about the poor owl, likely running, or...y'know.../flying/, for his life from his pet eagle.

His mother was sitting in a big plushy chair, a muggle book in hand, while a bunch of little brooms went around the massive house, cleaning and sweeping. Al had to maneuver around them so he didn't trip and end up swept outside again!

He called to her. "Mom! Mom!"

She looked up, hazel eyes inquisitive. With a snap of her fingers, the brooms fell to the floor, lifeless. "Yes, Al?"

He handed her the letter, she handed it back after a short lecture about the doctor saying he needed his glasses 24/7, and how he couldn't delude himself into thinking that he needed them for only reading and video games. Letter in hand, he returned to his room.

"What the heck does delude even mean..." He grumbled to himself, grabbing the damn glassed and putting them on.

A couple minutes later, Al poked his head back into the living room, glasses and all, where his mother was sitting still, reading as those demon brooms went about. "Mom, what's a hogs wart?"

"A wart on a hog, sweetie."

"Then..." he looked at the letter. "What does that make Hogs Wart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?"

She immediately stood, the brooms halting in midair. She took the letter from his hand, and read it over, then a couple more times. She looked like someone who had just won the lottery and was trying to figure out if it was real. She held his shoulders, and spoke slowly and clearly, tears streaming down her face. "Alfred, Hogwarts is a famous school known to teach the best wizards and witches of all time. They've invited you to go to their school!"

"Whoa?! Really?! Awesome!" It was probably the only time Al would ever think school was cool, but a famous school? He was sure that they would teach him so many cool things! "When?! Where?! California, New York?!" It had to be in America, America was so awesome, so many famous things were in America, he was sure that Hogwarts wouldn't be any different.

"No, sweetie, in Europe. Scotland." Scotland...? That was across the sea...Did owls go that far? One did but, how long did it take him? He couldn't talk to any of his friends, or his girlfriend, or his little brothers and sisters, his parents either...

"That's too far...I-I'll just go to Salem again this year."

"You /have/ to go, Al. It's a once in a lifetime chance!" She shook him lightly. "Please, Al...sweetie...For me, it'll be great, you'll love it."

His mouth hung open. "I...I can't, it's too far Mom..."

"Al...Alfie, my boy..." The teen's heart clenched, biting his lower lip.

"Wh-what about Jessie and Chase? They need their big brother, their hero!"

"I think they'd want to share their hero with the world, you'll knock the wizarding world to its butt, just like Harry Potter!"

J-just like...?! The thought of his absolute hero, his wizarding hero...H-his hero was going to Hogwarts too! He'd read it in one of those English-imported News Paper's Mom was always buying! That thought alone, the mere /mention/ of Harry Potter was enough to convince Alfred to go.

"I'll go, I'll go!" He declared, as his mother wrapped her arms around him. He looked to the date. August 30th?! It was the 27th today! He cursed, which got him a swift and stinging smack to the back of the head. He ran to his room, basically turning into a human tornado, tossing all his clothes into a trunk, packing a couple mobile video games and cheat books and whatever else he thought he needed.

The door creaked open, his father peeked in while he was struggling with the decision whether to keep his DS case or pack clean underwear.

"Alfie, you and your Mother have talked about this. Mortal devices don't work in Magical places." He said, holding up the black plastic case.

The teen pouted. "I know but...a whole year without my Pikapi?!" He fell backwards onto the floor dramatically. "Maybe I can find a place with minimal magic, a toilet or something where I can play my games, maybe even teach Harry Potter how to play!"

"The famous wizarding boy?"

"Who killed that evil British guy, Moldy Wart!"

The man didn't comment, not knowing very much about magical news, he had no idea if it was the actual name or just a memory flub on his eldest sons' part.

Just as he was about to ask, a screech made the mortal flinch. "Captain! You're back!"

The man sighed, seeing the family pet sitting on a perch just outside the window. "There are something I will never get used to, living with a magical family..." Alfred didn't seem to notice, petting the creature's white-topped head.

"Didn't catch that stinking owl? Cause where we're going, they'll be alot more!" The massive bird's head twisted, tilting to one side as if it were saying 'Do tell.' Alfred grinned even more, the thought pumping excitement through his body "Captain, I'm going to England and you, since you're my loyal side-kick, you're coming with me!"

It fluffed it's wings, shook it's head, and with the regality of royalty, nodded it's head forward, accepting his demand. "Alright! We're leaving soon, so you'll..." he paused...He needed a reply... "Wait here Cap!" The hyper-active blonde was about to turn, only to run face-first into the breasts of his mother.

"Already written, Alfie." She said, handing him a letter. He grinned, kissed her cheek, and ran to the window as his father went about sorting through his son's haphazard attempts to pack, smiling with amusement.

"'Ere you go, my good chap!" The letter was snatched up by the bird's massive yellow beak. "To Hogwarts, 'kay? It's in the Scottish parts, I 'unno much else though. As fast as you can." Alfred stood back, saluting the bird who saluted back. "Safe journeys, solider!" It turned tail, and flew off into the darkening sky.

"Did you have to teach him that trick?" Asked his mother.

"I like it, it's nice and proper." Laughed his father.

"It's American is what it is!" Declared Alfred, turning back, almost flying out the door himself. "I gotta tell Jessie and Chase I'm gonna meet my hero~!"

The married duo watched their hyper active little boy run, outside, screaming for his younger brother and sister. "Hogwarts, he said, right?" The woman hummed, and nodded. "You wanted to go there, but your mother wanted you closer, didn't she?"

"To train me to be a proper witch on her own terms, to teach me to be an heiress to her fortune." She said, voice cracking ever-so-slightly. "I'm so glad that at least he can go..." He stood, holding his wife close.

"Hey now...it's alright...It'll be an adventure for Alfred, and he can tell you all about it when he comes home for Christmas and all the other holidays."

"I know..." She said softly, smiling and wiping her tears on his shoulder. "I know..." '...It's impossible...The chances of both Matthew and Alfred getting the same letter...I pray that they will never meet...' she thought, clutching onto her husband's shirt a little tighter. 'He can't know I had another man's child...'
