"Why are we here? You hate these events-"Caius whispered, the warlock and the vampire were at one of the towns slave-markets. The hall they had filed into was filled to the brim with land-owners, traders, and the upper-class people. This was a normal occurrence since it was the early 1800s.

Lily rolled her eyes and twirled her closed parasol in her hand; she and her friend were in the back row and saw several slaves, who were chained together.

"We need fresh blood in the house." Lily stated, her eyes landed on the slave she met on her first arrival…her memory was right he called himself Marcel…that had already captured her attention…slaves tended not to be given names yet he had one.

Caius frowned "You-are you shopping around for a new person to feed from?" he asked.

"Hmm-"the warlock rolled his eyes, and frowned…seeing that he didn't have the vampire's full attention was on a particular slave.

The auction began and the slaves were put up, Lily didn't put a bid down for any of the people there.

"Slave 342." The auctioneer called out, and upon the platform stepped Marcel. "This one is young and fit, those who are interested may inspect him." Lily wasn't too surprised that there were several men who rushed towards the stage; she looked on in disgust as they pawed at him.

"You want him." Caius said, she nodded there was something…calling out to her. When the stage emptied the bidding began, and Lily watched as it went higher and higher, her bright emerald orbs met Marcel's deep brown ones.

"30 dollars-?"the auctioneer called out, the pompous man in front of Lily put his hand up,

"Bid for 50-"she whispered to Caius, the warlock looked at her questionably but the look she sent him worked and he did just that.

Lily arrived home after the auction, and had just shed her large wide brim hat and handed her parasol to a maid. She left Caius to deal with the money since…despite being a powerful she was a woman and in this era it would be odd for her to be seen doing this.

"Fleur?" she called out to Caius's wife and stepped into the parlour and was glad that the windows were wide opened, New Orleans was warmer so she insisted for them to leave the windows opened to let some air in.

"Oh Lady Lily-"she shot the maid a look, causing the smaller woman to blush "I mean Lily-you're back…is C-"

"Your husband is bringing our latest….guest? Depends on how long he chooses to stay really." She said walking over to the drinks,

"Guest? You purchased a slave-"Fleur asked in disbelief, she was well aware of how the vampire disproved of these types of things…she found the red head to be the most human vampire ever.

"His name is Marcel…he's not my slave-he'll be a servant who earns his keep and I'll pay him." Lily stated, and poured the bottle of blood into a wine-goblet. "Set up a room for him will you?" Fleur nodded and scurried off,

Lily licked her lips and downed her wine; her heightened hearing heard the sound of the carriage coming down the path. "Matier-bring a jug of water and some cheese and fruits-"she called out to one of her other servants, a minute later a platter arrives. "Thank you." she smiled at the teenager, she had taken him in after finding him on the street four months ago whilst she was in England.

"Lily-"

"In the parlour." She called out, and turned around just as Caius ushered Marcel in to the room. "You can go Caius; Fleur is waiting to be swept away." She smiled and the warlock took the hint and left. There was a moment of silence and Lily didn't miss the way he was eyeing the platter of fruit,

"Sit-"she smiled kindly at him "this is for you."

"No Miss it is fine…"he replied immediately looked down averting eye-contact. "Where do you want me to start?" he asked.

Lily frowned and took several steps forward till she cross the room, like many men he towered over her…but he was so…beaten down. She gently grasped his chin and forced him to meet her eyes. Her eyes dilated "I want you to eat the platter of fruit and drink to your fill." She compelled him

And without argument he did just that, Marcel took an offered seat she took the seat opposite him, and Lily watched as he literally ate everything on the plate, she took a sip of the blood,

"So you was hungry then?" she uttered

"I-I-"

"No need to be shy." Lily smiled "So how do you know about vampires?" she asked casually, Marcel straightened and his eyes widened.

"I don't-there not real-"he stammered, she narrowed her eyes

"I know you're lying your heart is hammering in your chest." Lily stated, "Relax Marcel I wish you no harm, just curious is all."

Marcel licked his lips and held the cup in his hands, his eyes met hers, one thing he learned from his mentor was pick up on people's intentions…and he could see that this kind-hearted red head was being sincere she had no ill intentions. "I knew some vampires…when I was a boy I-one of them saved me…took me in and treated me like a son."

Lily nodded her brows furrowed "What happened?" she asked softly, piecing it together obviously something did, since he was sitting right in front of her instead of with those other vampires.

"Someone came that was after them and they fled-I-he said he would find me again…and when he does-he'll set me free." Marcel explained. He was just going to keep his head low and wait for him.

Lily smiled and nodded "Well I guess you'll be here till he arrives." She grinned, Marcel frowned

"I can do anything or-"

"Marcel I may not be a human but I know how to treat one. you'll be given free boarding and food…I can pay you to earn your keep-just some odd jobs." She said, holding out her hand to him. Marcel didn't hesitate and took his hand "Is that suitable?"

"More then." Marcel immediately said, she smiled and lead him towards the back of the house

"The garden needs to be cleared that's all at the moment, you can start tomorrow?" Lily looked at him, he nodded and she grinned "Well come along, I'll show you to your room." she said leading him up some stairs, and they walked down the hallway where Lily introduced him to several other servants. One thing that Marcel noted was that the servants here all seemed happy with their life here….which said a lot about the Lady of the house, she pushed opened a wooden door.

"This is yours, some fresh clothes will be delivered we'll go to the market soon" Lily stepped to the side allowing him to pass. Marcel was in awe, it was one of the nicest rooms he stayed in.

"You really don't need to do this-"he turned to look at her "the food and-"

"Any decent person would do this. Plus this house does tend to get lonely when the others go home." Lily winked "I'll see you in the morning…the bath has already been set up." She was about to close the door but stopped, as a question came to mind. "Oh Marcel what is the name of the vampire who took you in?" she asked.

"Niklaus." Marcel replied she smiled and nodded, gently closing the door behind her.

Lily leant against the door and hummed "Niklaus." She murmured, she had a feeling he was going to be coming her way soon enough.

Lily took a sip of her morning tea and yawned; she held her chin in her hand and was currently reading the text from Jenna. Once again bloody Carol Lockwood thought she and Jen would be up for showing Elijah around the grounds of the Founding families or something like that. They would be leaving at nine-thirty.

"Morning Lily-"the vampire nearly jumped out of her skin, when Elijah squeezed her shoulder

"Christ do you mind not sneaking up on me?" she sent him a look; the Original merely cocked an eyebrow and helped himself to the freshly brewed tea.

"You're a vampire you should have sensed me coming-"he uttered taking the stool opposite her, he was dressed in his usual suit and a dark grey shirt.

Lily rolled her eyes and bit into her toast, "You're not an ordinary vampire." She countered and swallowed.

"Something is troubling you." it wasn't a question, more of an observation.

"No-nothing is bothering me…feels like-I don't know something happened and it's driving me insane because I can't recall it right?" she laughed and jumped onto her feet grabbing her dirty dishes and placing it in the sink.

"Yes…sounds a bit odd-"Elijah chose his words carefully and grabbed his own empty mug and blurred behind Lily to place it in the sink, she stiffened feeling his body behind hers, something was nagging at the back of her mind, she looked over her shoulder, her emerald green orbs were meeting his deep oak brown ones.

"Did you have something to do with it?" she asked quietly, Lily swallowed

Elijah raised his hand and gently brushed aside a fallen curl "its best not to dwell on it." he murmured, and before Lily could question him further Jenna barged into the house,

"Hey-oh am I interrupting something?" she asked feeling the tension in the air between her friend and the writer.

Lily shook her head and smiled, Elijah retreated "No, no let's get a move on shall we?" she said

"I'll just grab my jacket; I'll meet you two outside." Elijah said turning on his heel, as soon as he left the room, Jenna squealed

"Oh my gosh I blatantly ruined a moment-"Jenna grinned, Lily scrunched up her nose and shook her head, hastily walking passed her, she grabbed her own jacket and bag,

"There was no moment-"Lily drawled exiting the house with the human on her heels, Jenna scoffed

"There was-I saw it I bet if I didn't walk in you and him would be snogging each other faces off-"she followed Lily to her car, the vampire would be driving them to the property lines.

"Snogging?" Lily cocked an eyebrow and unlocked her car, Jenna jumped into the back whilst she got into the driver's seat.

"What? You Brits say that all the time." Jenna was leaning against the back of Lily's seat, the English shot her an incredulous look.

"Stop looking on the internet trying to find out what us Brits say-"Lily chuckled, Jenna let out a whine

"Aww I can't help it. I find the British culture so cute. With your teas and crumpets…and when you say 'Bloody Hell'" Lily cackled with laughter when Jenna did a poor imitation of an English accent.

"That's terrible-"she laughed,

Jenna pouted "I thought it was kind of good." She defended herself "Try an American accent-"she goaded the red head.

Lily smirked and cleared her throat "Hey welcome to Denny's would you like fries with that?" she said in an American accent.

"Ass-"Jenna hit the back of her head,

"Arse dear-"Lily winked the car door finally opened and Elijah slid in. he didn't miss the triumphant grin on Lily's face, or the pout on Jenna's face.

"Did I miss something?" he asked and quirked an eyebrow

"Nope-"Lily replied popping the 'p' "Let's get a move on." she turned the key and revved the engine and tore out of her driveway.

"Oh my god-"Jenna nearly fell out of the car in haste to get out. Lily rolled her eyes, and had the urge to smooth down Elijah's hair. "You are never driving again with me-"she snapped.

The vampire made a face "What? Everything is a little better with speed." She uttered and reached around the back to grab Jenna's canvas bags.

"No it's not-you nearly hit a kid on a bike." Jenna tutted, Lily huffed and shook her head

"Well he shouldn't be on the street then should he?" she said,

"He was on the side-walk." Jenna said.

"Ladies-"Elijah smiled charmingly not wanting an argument to break out between the two feisty females.

"What?" both women snapped causing him to falter

"Shall we start?"

Lily nodded and gestured for him to go first, when his back was turned she shoved Jenna back into the car causing her to swear at her.

Soon enough Lily, Jenna and Elijah were walking across the grassy grounds; the red head plucked a dandelion from the ground.

"The old Fell property actually starts just beyond that line." Jenna pointed out walking besides the red head, who was in between her and Elijah.

"Ah the Fells, one of the Founding families." The Original said in a mocking tone, Lily didn't miss that

"Why'd you say like that?" she asked, from the corner of her eye she could see Jenna fiddling with the map.

Elijah hummed and broke a bit of the twig off "Well my research showed me that this area was actually settled almost two hundred years ago it was a migration of town folks, from the North East-"

"Salem?" Lily asked, she read about that

"You know?" Elijah looked at her, she shook her head

"Just some bits." She shrugged her shoulders, wondering why was he taking an interest in that.

"Do you mean the witch trials?" Jenna asked getting involved in the conversation,

Elijah nodded as they kept walking; Lily's hand snapped out to steady Jenna when the human stumbled, she shot the vampire a thankful looks "Which means the ever allotted Founding families didn't actually found anything."

Jenna snorted, Lily bit her lip…she always thought there was much more to this town then the 'Founding families'

"Well I bet it was the men who made a big deal-"they came to a stop near the clearing, a couple of yards away from where they parked the car, Lily's ears twitched hearing the sound of footsteps coming towards them "in 1860, men are very territorial-"Jenna finished off.

"Yes they are-"he trailed off, his eyes briefly travelled over to Lily, there seem to be a hidden message, her brows furrowed and she followed Jenna's gaze, and wasn't too surprised to see Alaric here.

She stifled a giggle seeing Alaric casually strolling over to them, his hands tucked into his pocket.

"Erm Elijah-"Jenna decided to make introduction since it looked like Lily was having a fit or something. "This is my friend, Alaric Saltzman-"the red head vampire's eyebrows shot to her hairline when Jenna said that, they were more than friends. Seems like something was going on between them.

"Yeah I got your message about walking Elijah through the old property lines; I thought I would I would tag along being a history buff an all." Alaric said casually,

"Great-it'll be nice if you'd show that enthusiasm and plan your own lessons-"Lily mumbled and staggered when Alaric shoved her. She glared at him "so where to next?" she asked "I'll kick your arse later-"she hissed at him.

Elijah threw aside the twig he had picked up "I'm pretty curious about the freed slave property owners-"the Original kept his eyes on the hunter, "some say you know… the slaves are the true keepers of the American history."

"Oh I only brought the surveys, I got that list in the car-I'll be a second." Jenna said hurrying back to Lily's car-

"Jen catch-"she called out, Jenna turned just in time to catch the keys Lily threw out at her.

"Thanks-"Jenna rolled her eyes when her friend made the 'what the hell did I do?' face.

"Alaric Saltzman-"Elijah said, they watched as Jenna headed towards the car "you're one of those people on Elena's list of loved ones-"

"Lils your car door isn't opening-"the vampire heard Jenna hollering,

She rolled her eyes "Coming-try and not do the alpha male thing-"she said into the pair of men, before turning on her heel and jogging over the car.

As Lily came closer she could see Jenna yanking the handle. "Christ-not like that-"she batted away Jenna's hands. "

"What-"Jenna frowned "it's not my fault your car is shit-"

Lily scoffed, and felt a cool breeze against her skin; it made her long red locks fly around her face. "Or you can't open the door-push this and then tug-"she demonstrated opening the back door where the fallen list was. As Jenna retrieved it, Lily leant against the open door. "So what's with you and Ric?" she asked curiously, the vampire didn't miss the way Jenna stiffened at that.

"Nothing-"

"Honey you're my best friend so I know when you're lying out of your arse." She scoffed Jenna stood up so Lily slammed the car door shut

Jenna sighed, she couldn't hide anything from the red head…they were like sisters after all. "Fine…something is up with Ric…he's hiding something-"she said, she shook her head, and looked at Lily for advice, who at the moment felt terrible herself…Alaric wasn't the only one hiding things from her.

"Look-"Lily cleared her throat as the pair of women started to make their way back to the men. "Just talk to him and stop listening to John-he's a dick-"she added,

Jenna shot her a look, "How-"

"You start having your relationship issues when John arrives, doesn't take a genius to figure it out." Lily hitched the strap of her bag higher on her shoulder, "Jenna-Alaric the so called 'history buff' came all the way out here for a walk? Do you buy that?" she asked, jumping over a branch, Jenna attempted to copy her but fell on her arse, causing Lily burst out into laughter. "Damn that was funny-"she clutched her sides

Jenna scowled and staggered onto her feet,

"So are you going to answer my question?" she asked as the human dusted herself off, Jenna bit her lip

"Well it's seems like a good reason-"

"Oh my god, you are stupid." Lily exclaimed and gritted her teeth when Jenna slapped her on the arm. "What? You are-Ric didn't come out here for history or a freaking walk…he came here because Elijah is here-meaning-he wants the bloke to know you're his." She smiled brightly, and walked head seeing Elijah patting Alaric on the back.

"What? No-"Jenna shouted that couldn't be the case could it? Lily spun around so that she was walking backwards,

"Hey you're the one who said men were territorial-"she held her arms wide making a sweeping motion. "So there-"the graceful twirl Lily did was an epic fail, since she slipped and landed hard on her face.

Jenna cackled with laughter and slapped her knee "Shame on your face-"she shouted, and didn't even stop laughing when Elijah and Alaric hurried over to them.

Lily panted and ran into the Grill making sure to keep up with human persona, as soon as she entered the Grill; she scoured the bar and eating area and found the person she was looking for. She skidded to a stop beside the table which Alaric, Damon and Andie were at.

"I'm here what's the emergency? Is Stefan ok-?" she asked immediately,

Alaric stared up at her "What? You're meant to be with Jenna and-"

"Damon said there was an emergency -"Lily uttered "plus Elijah is a classy Original and a man of his word, so Jenna will be safe." She assured him, and then looked at Damon "So what is it?" she had gotten a panicked call from the younger vampire insisting for her to come to the Grill.

"Oh did you want to have lunch with us?" Damon grinned, Lily's jaw dropped "And if so would you pay for it? I would use compulsion but Stefan gets all prissy about-FUCK-"he cried out in pain, when Lily grabbed the fork and stabbed it into the back of his hand, pinning his palm against the wooden surface.

"You're the biggest prick of all time." Lilly sneered and dropped down the vacant seat beside Alaric, she rolled her eyes seeing the glare on Andie's face.

"I know what you're playing out-you're trying to tempt Damon-playing hard to get-you're pathetic-"the news-reporter hissed, the raven head vampire chortled hearing that and freed himself.

Lily was about to get up and most likely do something violent, but Alaric grabbed her arm forcing the vampire down.

She sighed and helped herself to Damon's drink, downing the whole glass of bourbon; he winced when she slammed the empty glass down in front of him.

"Ok-I get why-"Damon admitted and placed his arm around Andie's shoulder, who was still sending volatile looks to the red head. "So other than your wonderful lectures on Mystic Falls, did you get anything out of Elijah?" he asked leaning forward,

Lily leant back in her seat "No…it was boring-yes I know Lily I'm a history teacher…doesn't mean I don't find if boring."

She shrugged her shoulders "I'll give you that, Mystic Falls….ergh-Founding families, blah, blah, blah dull a tad bit." She admitted, and licked her lips, she felt her phone buzzing in her pocket and shifted on her bottom so she could pull it out. She unlocked her screen and saw that it was a text from Jenna asking her where to meet…she replied 'The Grill.'

Lily tuned back into the conversation just managing to catch the end of Alaric's sentence "But Jenna and Lily thinks he's charming….they were drooling over him-"he said snidely,

Lily rolled her eyes "I can appreciate a good looking man Ric, doesn't mean I fancy him-"she commented, "actually you sound jealous…don't you two think so?" she looked over Damon and Andie.

"Yeah you kind of do." Andie nodded "just how she sounds when I'm with Damon-"she added, Lily scoffed

"Yeah don't you think we should have this conversation later?" Alaric nodded towards the human,

Damon made a face, "What Andie? Oh you don't need to worry; she's been compelled not to divulge my secrets." He smirked pulling the human closer. And kissed her, both Lily and Alaric shared a look of disgust.

"Yeah this is too weird." Alaric shook his head,

"Yeah…it's seemed like a good idea at the time…a good distraction." Damon mumbled causing Lily to raise an eyebrow, she sighed when Andie continued to glare at her.

"That's it-"the red leant forward and gently grasped Andie by her chin, her pupils' dilated tell-tale sign that she would compel her. "Forget everything Damon told you about me being after him. We are friends that is all. So no need to be jealous-"she could feel Alaric beside her faffing around, getting agitated that someone might see her using her vampiric abilities.

Andie repeated what Lily said to her, and the vampire let go. "Oh why? It was fun-"Damon pouted, causing Lily to snort.

"Yeah ok if you're into that thing." She tapped her fingers against the table-top.

"Oh Lily I love your hair colour, is it natural?" Andie asked perkily, causing the vampire to smile, seems like undoing Damon's compulsion about her…made the news-reporter friendlier.

"Yep-not dyed once-"she informed her, "Oh if you're looking for a hairdresser though-there's a lovely little hairdressing shop Spring avenue-"

Damon made a bored face, causing Lily to kick him hard in the shin, he grunted and smirked "Look Lily your boyfriend is here…with Jenna."

She glanced over her shoulder and saw Jenna and Elijah both meandering their way over to their table.

"Hey-"Jenna beamed at them

"Hi-"Alaric shuffled to the side as did Lily to make room for their latest guests. "So I hear you two had quite a meeting of the historical minds today." Damon drawled,

"Yeah-"Jenna grinned "This one was supposed to stay till the end, but she obviously had better things to do-"she poked Lily in the shoulder,

"Sorry…Damon said he smelt gas coming from my kitchen-emergency-"the red head stammered, the youngest vampire out of the group resisted the urge to palm his face, Lily was the worst liar ever.

"Funnily enough Lily I was the last to leave your house, I didn't smell any gas." Elijah uttered, she could see the glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

Lily cleared her throat "Well then I don't know what Damon was on-"she turned it back on the eldest Salvatore,

"You really need to sort your senses out-"Jenna guffawed. Damon let out a dry chuckle

Alaric cleared his throat "Well as much as I'd like to finish this, I got papers to grade-so do you-"he looked at the red head, who scoffed

"Unlike you I don't leave everything till last minute-"she smiled widely "so you're on your own-"Alaric let out small whine

"Can you please help me grade-…I don't think I can read fifteen year old teens essays….that is one dumb-"

"Ssh-"she hissed, it wouldn't look great that two teachers spent their free time taking the piss out of their students.

"Well fine I should go. You mind?" he asked, Alaric slipped out of the booth, brushing against Elijah as she did so.

"Hey why don't we? Continue this I mean?" Andie said aloud, causing them to all look at her. "Let's have a dinner party" she suggested,

Lily made a face, dinner party? "Oh my girl-"she had the feeling Damon was up to something "full of good ideas-"

"Was it her idea?" Lily asked,

"Of course Lils-"Andie giggled, making the red head glace at Jenna with a 'wtf' face, since when did Andie started to call her 'Lils'?

"I'll be happy to host…." Damon declared "say tonight maybe…" he said, the muscle in Elijah's jaw ticked

"It's good for me-Jenna? Lily-?" Andie looked at the pair "It'll be nice to have some female company-"she added,

"Erm…"

"Well-"

"Yep good for us. Actually Lily is a great cook, I'm sure she could rustle up something-"Jenna said, offering the red head's services.

Elijah shrugged his shoulders "It'll be a pleasure." He smiled,

"Great-"Damon nodded.

Soon enough the table vacated leaving Jenna, Lily and Elijah behind "So lunch? How about I get you some ladies drinks?" he offered,

"Sure-just a glass of red wine-"Jenna smiled

"I'm fine-"Lily uttered as soon as Elijah went off to the bar, she grabbed Jenna's wrist and tugged her down hard.

"Ow-"she hissed.

"What the hell?" Lily scowled "I don't want to cook-why'd you say that?" she demanded.

Jenna smirked; the Grill wasn't too busy, since they came just after the lunch rush. There was low music in the background, and the red head could see one of her students Matt walking around…with Caroline trailing after him. She swore they were done with their teen drama. Her attention shifted back to Jenna.

"Well you know what they say…a way to a man's heart is through his stomach-"Jenna wagged her eyebrows up and down.

Lily ran her hand across her temple "Jenna….think-I've been living with him for a while…I cook…he knows that…and we're not together. Hence so not meant to be-"she announced.

Jenna scowled "I don't care what you say you and him go well with each other-just shag him and-"Lily let out a frustrated huff

"Why are you so desperate to get me laid?"

"Because-you need a soul mate and that could be him." Jenna said airily, before Lily could counter her argument Elijah returned carrying three drinks and set them down.

"I know you said not to get you anything…but you'll probably end up drinking Jenna's drink." Elijah said with a knowing grin.

"Soul—"

"Finish that sentence I'll make sure Alaric finds those teen photos of you-"Lily threatened instantly shutting her friend up.

Lily slipped on her heels; she was going to the Boarding House about an hour and a half early to cook. And she was going to drag Jenna's arse with her, she smoothed down her green dress and gave herself a once over. There she looked nice, not completely over…meaning completely ready for a dinner party. She shut her bedroom door behind her and walked down the corridor

"Elijah I'm leaving, the party starts at seven so I'll see you there-"she yelled out when she found herself pinned to the wall by her throat. "What the hell-"she gripped Elijah's wrist.

"What are you planning?" Elijah growled, she winced and felt her ire rise

"Excuse me-"she snarled, his grip wasn't tight enough to hurt, the Original just had a firm hold on her.

"This dinner party-is it all as it appears to be?" he asked.

Lily swallowed "I don't know, hell I find it weird Damon wanted it….I'm not planning to betray you Elijah if that's what you're thinking." She stammered, Lily was by no means a super vampire-no way in hell would she be able to take him down…they needed him. "I-won't do that to you." the hold on her throat disappeared and instead Elijah cupped her jaw,

"Sorry Lily, I don't trust Damon-he-"

"He's so wrapped up with protecting Elena that he's blinded and can't see the bigger picture." Lily uttered "Are-we need you on our side." she said, he brushed back her curls tucking it behind her ear "What about you? Are you being completely honest?" she asked.

Elijah kept a straight face and nodded, "I have no reason to lie." He replied…she believed him when she shouldn't have, there was a knock on the door, and Jenna was here.

"I should go-"she said, he took a step back and allowed her to pass, Lily headed towards the front door

"Lillian-"Elijah called her name; she looked over her shoulder "you look stunning by the way." He said sincerely.

Lily blushed and said a soft goodbye. She came out onto the porch and smiled

"Oh my god you got laid-"Jenna screeched,

"Fuck off Jenna already-"Lily blurted out stalking towards her car.

"Touch that-I will rip your spleen out-"Lily threatened, it was nearly time for everyone to start arriving,

"This is why Jenna and Andie legged it out of here-"Damon said jumping onto the counter,

"Yep plus they were chatting endlessly-you know-"she checked on the chicken and decided to give it another ten minutes or so. "I think it was easier when she hated me." She grumbled and shut the door.

"Well I could-"

"Stop compelling the poor woman-"Lily uttered and checked on the vegetables, she added some pepper,

"Lily they can be my playthings-"Damon smirked, leaning back. She cocked an eyebrow and stirred the gravy,

"Remember the first time you said that to me…what did I do?" she smirked right back.

"You-weren't very nice-"Damon huffed,

"Exactly-anyway keep stirring-I'll take these out." everything was more or less ready, all the food now was a bit of rest and for everyone to arrive. Lily grabbed the stack of cleaned plates and entered the dining area.

"Done?" Jenna looked up, setting some candle-holders down, as Andie was laying down the cutlery. Lily started to dish out the plates.

"Yes-"

"Smells delicious-"Andie beamed,

"See this is why I wanted you to cook. Your food is to die for you." Jenna complimented her, Lily's lips twitched at that.

"Honey I made the food already. You don't need to butter me up anymore-"she laughed when the human swatted at her with the table cloth. "But if you want, by means go ahead." She winked, Jenna stuck her tongue out. "So is Ric here yet?" she asked,

"Don't know-"Jenna snatched some of the plates out of Lily's hand and started to lay the other end of the table. Both the vampire and the news-reporter exchanged looks,

"So what's with you and Ric?" Andie asked,

"Nothing-"

"You're being obvious that there is something wrong-"Lily cut her off, seeing the looks that she was receiving from both Jenna let out a defeated sigh and her shoulders slumped. "There's some tension-"

Jenna licked her lips, as Lily set down another plate and leant against the high-back chair. "I don't know….I really like him-"the red head scoffed "ok more than like him….I want it to work but I can't help but feel that he's hiding something from me and then I got John whispering things in my ear about him,"

Lily resisted the urge to roll her eyes; she needed to have a word with the eldest Gilbert. "Things like what?" she asked.

"Things I don't want to believe…things that I don't believe not if they are coming from John's mouth." Jenna laughed.

A whoosh of relief shot through her at that "Well there you go-"Andie smiled "trust is the key to any relationship, I mean I'm so grateful that Damon tells me everything…."Lily choked on a laugh

"Sorry-sorry-"she pushed down the urge to cackle madly. "Jen don't believe a word that comes out of John Gilbert's mouth…hell he could still be hung up over you-"

"Eww that's such a dirty thing to say." Jenna pretended to barf causing Lily and Andie to chuckle.

"So what is with you and Elijah?" Andie turned the conversation onto the red head,

"What-?" Lily faffed around with the cloth napkins.

"Well I sense some history or something-"the blond shrugged her shoulders,

Lily shook her head "Well you must be mistaken, I met him here when he arrived in town-"she uttered,

"But you can tell there's something there-"Jenna jumped on the bandwagon, "see you and him are-"

"No-nothing." Lily cut her off, "go sort the wine out will you? I'm going to check on the food." She scurried off,

"There is something between her and Elijah isn't there?" Andie asked looking at the shorter woman.

Jenna shrugged her shoulders "Could be…he likes her…but I didn't think brunettes were her type-"

"Would you two stop gossiping and be useful." They heard Lily shout from the kitchen.

Lily just finished dishing the food onto some of the platters she had dug up, she heard the sound of the door bell ringing…and when no one answered it she huffed. Here she was slaving away for a dinner party that she didn't even want to attend…and no one can do the most simplest of task.

The vampire stepped out of the kitchen and her heightened hearing picked up the sound of the rest of the house occupants, seems like Damon and Andie were in the parlour, whilst Jenna and Alaric was in the wine cellar.

"God…useless bunch of people-Coming-"she yelled when the doorbell rang again, Lily made her way to the front door, the smile on her face immediately dropped when she saw who was standing on the other side of the door. "You." she scowled.

"Lovely to see you too Lily-"John smiled smugly,

"Jenna-"Lily called, a second later Jenna emerged into the foyer with Damon on her heels "did you invite that?" she jerked her thumb into John's direction.

Jenna scoffed "No-"she said in an offended tone

Damon walked over so that he was beside the door "John-"he greeted "leave." He commanded, no one in the house was a fan of Elena's biological father at the moment.

"When Jenna told me she was coming to a dinner party for Elijah and that Lily was cooking I couldn't resist-"Jenna shuffled off towards the dining room. Leaving the pair of vampires to deal with him. "And join in on the fun and games."

Damon rolled his eyes "There's no fun and games tonight John; it's just a friendly dinner party." Alaric announced walking into the foyer; Lily leant against the opened door.

"Right-"John didn't sound like he believed a word the hunter said

"Lils something about chicken and-"

"Oh shit I was meant to take that out." Lily said and disappeared in a blur.

Lily licked her lips and pulled the chicken out of the oven….hmm it'll be a bit too crispy. The others had been going in and out of the kitchen.

"Oh that looks good-"Jenna's mouth watered, she was clasping on to the bottle of wine that John had gotten.

"Yeah don't-"she slapped Jenna's wondering hand away, the human hissed and rubbed her hand

"Alright…so John got the cheap wine-"Jenna showed Lily the bottle who laughed.

"Jen-"Lily tutted in a mock stern tone "alcohol is alcohol-"she popped the cork and raised the bottle to her full lips, Jenna watched on in amusement as the red swallowed the nectar. Lily gagged and spat it out in the sink.

"Oh god that's disgusting-"she hurriedly poured herself a glass of water, and washed her mouth out,

"I though alcohol was alcohol-"Jenna mocked her accent.

"Yeah that-no human should ever taste that-"Lily said as the doorbell rang again,

"Lily door-"Damon shouted from somewhere in the house,

"Damon your house-dick-"Lily shouted back, and took the wine bottle and was about to pour the rest of the liquid down the drain Jenna snatched the bottle "Jen you really don't-"

"You exaggerate a lot Lils, I bet it's not that bad-"Jenna took a swig, Lily cocked an eyebrow when Jenna paled and sprayed the wine all over the counter.

"That's disgusting-"she cried.

"Yeah you're cleaning up-"her heightened hearing picked up the sound of an accented voice and she knew Elijah had finally arrived. She threw a cloth at Jenna and exited the kitchen. Lily bypassed John and Alaric and the pair was in hushed whispers. She shook her head and entered the foyer and saw Elijah was at the door, she didn't miss the tension between Damon and the Original.

So she decided to break it "Elijah-you finally arrived. Thought you were going to skip out or something-"he was a tad bit late. She walked forward. Elijah beamed at her.

"Lily-"he pushed pass Damon, "Wouldn't miss your cooking for anything-"the older vampire approached her. His eyes raked over her "Did I already mention how stunning you look." Lily grinned

"I think you did. Anyway nice shirt-"she smiled at him. Damon slammed the front door shut behind him, as Lily ushered Elijah into the dining room. This dinner party was getting underway.

"Hmm this is good-"John said taking a mouthful of chicken. The meal was more than halfway through and the conversation had flowed,

"Shut up John-"Lily muttered causing Alaric who was sitting beside her to choke on his potatoes,

"More wine-"Jenna said loudly wanting to push pass a potential argument between her best friend and her ex.

"Yes please-"Damon held out his glass.

"You really don't like him do you?" Elijah said into Lily's ear, he had taken the other seat beside her.

"Not in the slightest, he's a rat-"she said back, meeting his eyes.

Jenna cleared her throat causing Lily and Elijah to focus back into the room. The red head bit down hard on her piece of chicken when Jenna shot her a wink. "So I hate to break it to you Damon, but according to Elijah here your family is so not a founder of this town." She revealed,

Lily chewed, the youngest vampire looked over to the Original "Hmm do tell." Damon exclaimed sipping his wine.

"Well as I mention to Lily and Jenna earlier, a faction of settlers migrated from Salem after the witch trials in the 60s. Over the next hundred years they developed this community where they could feel safe from persecution." Elijah explained, Lily picked up her water glass….she hadn't heard of this 'community' before.

She set her glass down, "Hmm because they were witches-"Jenna said in a tone which indicated she didn't believe a word of it.

Lily smiled….it was going to be a shocker when she found out that isn't the case at all. "There's no tangible proof that there ever were witches in the 60s-"Andie cut in,

"Andie's a journalist big on facts." Damon grinned

"So you don't believe in the supernatural?" Lily asked her leaning forward, placing her elbows on the table-top.

"What? Witches? No. do you?" Andie asked,

Lily shrugged her shoulders "I think there are loads of things out there….we're not completely alone." She picked up her fork once again and took a bite out of her food.

"Well I don't" Jenna exclaimed "it's just us-"

"Hey Elijah where was you going with your story?" Alaric said, wanting keep this evening going.

Elijah cleared his throat, Lily could feel the heat radiating off of the Original beside her, he drummed his fingers against the table-top. "Well the lore says there was an anti-witch hysteria, it broke out on the neighbouring settlement-"once again he captured the group's attention "so these witches were rounded up, they were tied to stakes in a field-"

"And set on fire." Lily finished off, this was what must've happened to Emily Bennet. Her eyes met Damon's icy blue ones, the younger vampire looked away…she didn't miss the flash of regret in those blue depths.

"Some say you could hear the screams from miles." Elijah carried on with his tale. "They were surrounded by fire-"he raised his drink to his lips "could you pass the-"he nodded towards the seasoned vegetables. Alaric handed the bowl over; Lily leant back and twirled her fork in her hand.

"Wouldn't repeat this to the historical society-"Jenna giggled,

"Yeah otherwise Carol Lockwood would have a heart attack….least it would stop her from putting me up for things." Lily grumbled,

"Does she do that a lot? I mean put you up for things without your consent?" Elijah asked.

Jenna giggled and Damon smirked "Lily and Carol are besties-"

"Shut up-I don't know how she even got my mobile number-"she stabbed her piece of chicken.

"Oh that would be me-"Damon smirked "and you're in America darling, we call it cell phone." He raised his glass.

"But Lily is Carol's little helper-"Jenna added, taking another sip of her wine.

Lily stuck her tongue out and took the bowl of vegetables from Elijah, "So Elijah your tale starting to sound like a ghost story." John commented breaking the brief moment of silence.

Damon canted his head to the side; the only sound could be heard was the cutlery tinkering with the plates. "So why do you want to know the place where these alleged massacre occurred?" Damon asked.

Elijah shrugged his shoulders "You know a healthy historian's curiosity." Lily frowned she got the feeling he was hiding something from her.

"You sure that's all?" Lily whispered

Elijah licked his lips and nodded "Yes it's all." He smiled. She nodded and went back to eating like the others. The Original felt a swarm of guilt bubbling in the pit of his stomach. He was lying to her again… this it was a never ending circle. And he knew that…Lily would probably end up getting hurt.

The meal had finished, Lily pushed her empty plate into the middle of the table, where the other dishes were piling up.

"Would anyone care for some a bottle of cognac? I have a bottle I've been saving for ages." Damon said standing up,

"None for me thanks. Nine bottles of wine is my limit." Alaric said, Lily stood up as did everyone else.

"The gentlemen should take their drinks in the study." Andie suggested, the red head vampire's brows furrowed "we've got a while to wait for the desert right Lily?" she looked at her

Lily nodded "Yeah I think so, it's still in the oven. Has to get that golden tint to it." She grabbed some of the plates, Jenna hurried to help.

"I have to say the food was almost as wonderful as the company. You've got a talent Lily." Elijah smiled charmingly at her.

Lily blushed and looked away…bloody charming English man…but there was that nagging feeling her gut and in the back of her head. Something was about to happen. Elijah followed after Damon, Jenna handed some plates to John.

"Here gentleman makes yourself useful." She drawled, John stalked off; Lily was piling the leftover food on to one of the plates.

"Here, here put me to work-"Alaric said attempting to grab the plate. Lily shifted feeling awkward when Jenna brushed him off.

"I got it." she sniped, Lily pretended to be distracted as she piled the plates together

"Hey Jenna you ok?" Alaric asked, Jenna leant over and grabbed the dirty dishes that Lily stacked up.

"I'm fine." She turned on her heel and left.

Alaric looked at the vampire "Do you know what's wrong?" he asked her.

Lily sighed "He is-"she said as John entered the room, the weasel like man came into the room. Wearing a smug smile on his face.

"I suspect this is my fault." John drawled

"It is your fault dick." Lily spat

Alaric scowled and approached the other man "What did you do now?" he asked.

John tucked his hands into his pockets. "I merely mentioned that you haven't been completely honest about your dead wife." Alaric grabbed John by the lapel of his shirt; Lily pulled the men apart, her hand resting on the hunter's chest, pushing him back.

"Leave it Ric he's not worth it." Lily glared at the human,

"I made it clear Ric I want my ring back. Oh and Lily I'd watch if I were you…otherwise Jenna might know what you actually are." He sneered, Lily took a threatening step towards him but Alaric grabbed her wrist.

"Don't-"the hunter said, it wouldn't do them any good if Jenna walked in and caught sight of Lily kicking John's ass. Then they would all be put under interrogation.

"He is such a dick." Lily muttered,

"And that's you just being nice." Alaric chuckled and he pulled out his cell when it started ringing. "Stefan-what? Slow down-"the hunter said, Lily's eyes widened when she heard what Stefan was saying on the other end "Oh my god-"

"You're trying to-"Alaric slapped his hand over her mouth shutting her up "Don't Elijah-"Lily growled and she used her superior speed and blurred off, the hunter cursed under his breath and sprinted after her.

She burst through the door and smiled "Hey-"Damon glared at her, he didn't involve Lily in the plan, and because he got the feeling that she would try and stop him. He was going to deal with her after; killing Elijah…she would get over it he thought.

"What are you doing here?" the raven head hissed,

Alaric skidded to a stop "Desert is ready." He announced "the topping Is just right." Now the youngest vampire was even more confused at that, why the hell was he going along with this?

"Elijah? Being the gentleman you are you'll escort me?" she smiled holding her hand out, Elijah was briefly reminded a long moment that was forgotten.

"Of course, Miss Petrova." He played along, and took her hand. Lily was startled when he twirled her, she led him out of the parlour and glanced over her shoulder just in time to see Alaric gesturing wildly. God Damon was an idiot she thought.

They returned into the dining room, just as Jenna was pouring some coffee for John. "Hey Lils, your desert is looking good, I don't know if you wanted me to take it out or not-"Jenna explained.

"Oh no it's fine. I'll see to it." she smiled and headed into the kitchen.

"See this is why she's the cook." Jenna laughed and followed her friend into the kitchen. She leant against the counter as Lily opened the oven door.

"You know-"Lily said as she grabbed the offered oven mitts and slipped them on "instead of sniping at Ric why don't you talk to him?" she asked

Jenna sighed and looked down, Lily carefully bright the pie out of the oven. And smiled at the desert, it looked slightly brown around the edges but completely perfect. "Because I feel like every time I speak to him, a lie comes out of his mouth. I can't trust him-"Lily placed the pie on the countertop, and grabbed a knife, she eased it into the pie and saw that it was cooked.

"Done-"Lily said grabbing the tray of small dishes, in the background she could hear Damon, John and Elijah talking in the background. "Just speak tell him what you feel-"she said

"And what do I feel?" Jenna asked she needed some advice. Lily picked up the tray and looked at her in concern.

"I can't tell you that…but I think you already know-"Lily exclaimed "do you?" she walked across the kitchen, Jenna was still leaning against the counter.

"I don't feel like I can trust him-"all of a sudden a torrid pain tore through Lily's head, with enough force to make her cry out her heightened hearing picked up the sound of Elijah screaming.

"LILY-"Jenna shouted when the red head dropped to the floor, the plates and bowls she had been holding shattered.

Lily grabbed her head, things-thoughts memories were rushing through her mind.

"Lily-"Jenna fell down beside her grabbing the vampire by her shoulders "What's wrong-"she was mindful about the shattered glass.

"My head-"Lily growled, feeling as if her mind would burst.

"Help! We need help-"Jenna shouted at the top of her lungs, Alaric and John burst through the doors,

"What-what's wrong?" Alaric asked eyes wide…this shouldn't be happening-hell Lily is a vampire for god's sake.

"I don't know one moment she was fine and the next moment she's not-"Jenna said beginning to panic holding the petite red head to her side

"Elijah-"John breathed his eyes meeting Alaric's. He heard from Katherine that the red head did share a past with the Original…it had something to do with him.

"We've got to take her to the hospital-NOW" Jenna shouted, Alaric rushed to Lily's side and helped her up. They had no choice but to do that…after all Jenna thought Lily was human.

Lily let out an aggravated sigh "I feel fine." She argued, they had been in the waiting room for about half an hour as soon as they walked through the doors, the blinding pain in her head disappeared almost as if it was never there…she felt faint thoughts…and memories…that's what got her more worried.

"You dropped to the ground shouting in pain-"Jenna tutted like a stern mother "We're here-"

Lily groaned "Well could you chase up a doctor or something? I have classes to teach tomorrow-"she said pointedly.

"Lils-"

"Ric is here I'll be fine." She assured the concerned woman,

"Fine." Jenna reluctantly stood up and went towards the receptionist desk. As soon as she was out of earshot, Lily turned to Alaric

"What the hell is going on?" she snarled,

Alaric swallowed, despite knowing Lily she was still a vampire and could be scary as hell. "Damon planned to kill Elijah tonight. And I did it-"a wave of emotion flooded her system at that…he can't be dead?...something-there was something there….she got the feeling that he knew more then he let on.

"Why?" she breathed "He-he was on our side-"Lily snapped.

Before Alaric could respond his cell rang, "It's Damon-"the phone was immediately snatched out of his hand and she answered it.

"What the fuck are you-"

"Elijah is alive-he's going after Elena-"Damon rushed out "I-we need you-he likes you talk him down or whatever-"

Lily's head now was beginning to pound again. "You and your brother are both idiots. You betrayed an Original, he'll be after your head. You lied to me why should I help you?" she hissed into the phone. Alaric winced fearing that the vampire would crush the brand new device.

"Because you're my friend Lily. I don't have a lot of those. Please just help and I'll explain-"Damon pleaded,

That pulled the red head out her void of rage, "Fine. I'll meet you at the lake-house." That was where the Original would go, after all the doppelganger was there.

"Lily what you can't-"

"Make something up. You've been doing that a lot with Jenna anyway-"Lily said and weaved her way out of the busy ER.

As soon as she exited the hospital she felt the cold breeze hitting her flush skin. Lily let out a frustrated growl when she saw the area was packed with people, she couldn't exactly run off vamp-speed.

She would have to take her car. Lily pulled out her keys, that she swiped from Jenna and hurriedly unlocked the car door. Lily climbed in and tore out of the parking lot, honking the car horn.

She sped down the dark road, going full speed, Lily bit her lip, and how the hell was she going to help with Elijah?

Damon, Stefan and Elena all went back on their bloody words, this group seriously needed a talking to, there was no doubt about it, Lily was going to vent to the pair of Salvatores about making smart decisions. She flew past the line of trees and had just turned the wheel, when she felt another blinding pain explode in her head.

Lily cried out and clutched her head, her mind was swamped with memories…the car was getting more and more out of control as her attention was no longer on her driving. Memories that she never knew she had were playing in her mind.

'Lily giggled as Elijah spun her around, so that her flapper dress swished around her legs. He pulled her close so that her front was flushed against his.

"So what do you think my sweet?" Elijah purred into her ear, he was still delighted by the red head's reaction to him. After all these years spent together, she still blushed because of him.'….the vampire shouted out pain, it felt as if something was being unleashed in her head. Her grip of the wheel tightened in pain. "Lillian…I want you to start a new life. Far away from Chicago….you will forget about I and my siblings. Until I say otherwise." He compelled her, "Farewell" he pressed a soft kiss on her temple and within a blink of an eye he was gone. "

She knew him-she knew him…they were lovers….she was happy with him. The vampire was completely oblivious to the corner she was coming up to, more importantly to the group of teens who were crossing the road. Another memory that had been taken away was surging forward, Lily's head was spinning.

'"We were lovers long ago-"he grasped her wrist and felt her stiffen "Long, long ago-but I took away your memories-"he revealed, resting his temple against hers,

"Why-?"she asked her eyes full of confusion

"Because you were in danger…and I've been aching to do this-"before she could question what he meant, Elijah leant forward and pressed his lips against hers, the kiss was slow and gentle. Lily swallowed and met his eyes

"Why-what-"

"I and you are wrong Lily…you're not mine. But you can't be" Elijah said he took her hands, and inhaled her scent

"Why are we wrong? Why can't I be yours?" Lily frowned oblivious to when he discreetly removed her daylight ring.

"You belong to someone else-"Elijah answered cupping her chin

"Who-"

His pupils dilated as did hers "You will forget this conversation. We returned home and decided to watch TV after you thanked me for saving you." Elijah compelled her.'

Lily gasped when there was a scream of alarm, her eye snapped opened just in time make out the group of teenagers who were running out of the road, her mind was still being flooded with memories, she felt as if her head was being torn into two.

Lily swerved the wheel, and the car skidded across the road, rolling several times and it tumbled into a ditch. The car slammed against the tree forcing it to stop. Pain…and numbness was encompassed her whole body, as well as the shattered glass. Lily was covered in blood, and her head was aching…"Elijah." She breathed, her eyes drifting shut.
