Lily swallowed and silently entered the Boarding House. Her hair was a mess, blood covered her face as well as stained her dress which was also covered, and she had compelled that group of teens to forget everything they witnessed tonight. She had pulled her car down the side of the road.

It felt like she was in a trance, she needed to see Elijah. Lily needed to talk to him, she was a mess of emotion, relief, betrayal and hurt was warring inside of her.

She had loved him…spent a number of years with him, but what the red head couldn't fathom was …why did he always leave her? And didn't come back for years on end….did he think it was acceptable to leave her high and dry? Take away her memories? And yet there was something else….he'd been chipping away at her, taking away her choices, messing with her life. Rage was bubbling in the pit of her gut. He was a liar simple as that…she was yearning also know if he still was in love her.

Lily was just so confused, she was heading towards the cellar already knowing that was where the Salvatore boys would keep the Original there.

Her heels clacked against the wooden floorboards, she was in a daze. Lily walked down the steps and peered through the grate, seeing Elijah's body there. She pushed opened the door and approached the fallen Original.

"Elijah-"she murmured, gently running her fingers across his cheek….rage was becoming her top emotion at the moment. She needed answers. Lily gripped the handle of the dagger hesitating for a moment. No she needed answers. So her grip on the dagger tightened and just as her digits closed around the handle to yank it out, she was violently pushed out of the room, and held down by her throat.

Lily hit the floor; a snarl was torn from her, when she saw it was Katherine who was pinning her down.

"Ah does dear red remember?" Katherine smirked; she was still damp from her shower. "Compulsion is a big no-no right?" she wagged her finger,

Lily growled and grabbed the brunette by her hair and slammed Katherine's head against the wall. She kicked the older vampire off, and blurred towards the cellar-the door was slammed shut, and Lily was once again thrown into the wall.

"What the hell is going on?" Damon shouted, he had immediately come down when he heard the racket. And frowned when he saw his brother attempting to hold Lily back and away from the recently daggered Original.

"Aww didn't you know-"Katherine sniped "Lily was Elijah's lover in the past-she wants to wake him…true love or something right?" she exclaimed.

"Lily he'll get-"Stefan tried to explain but the older vampire broke his arm, and easily snapped his neck.

"Lily don't-"Damon shouted blurring forwards, but she met him halfway, she grabbed him by his throat

"You daggered him-"she shouted, her eyes bled red and the veins protruded,

"Katherine a little help-"he choked, "If Elijah is around-he'll kill you-"he added as an incentive, knowing that Katherine would always throw everyone else under the bus if it meant her being ok.

The oldest vampire rolled her big brown orbs, and rushed forward; she grabbed her great granddaughter by the back of her dress, and threw Lily into the wall. The red head groaned when Katherine smashed her face into the glass cabinets-

"Ease up-"Damon growled

"This is a family thing Damon butt out-"Katherine snarled,

"Let go of me-"Lily shouted and attempted to throw her head back so she would hit the older Petrova. But Katherine was faster and once again slammed her face into the shard glass, causing her to growl and hiss in pain. Katherine snapped the wooden pole and stabbed it through Lily's lower back causing the vampire to cry out.

"Fucking hell-don't-"Damon shouted running forward,

Katherine scoffed "Relax, I'll be dead if I kill her. She's too valuable-"she drawled she twisted the pole, causing Lily to moan in pain.

"Listen Lillian to your прабаба" she purred into her ear, Lillian snarled.

"Защо да го правя? всичко, което излиза от устата ти е отрова" the red head sneered back in Bulgarian and her breath hitch when Katherine dragged the wooden pole up higher, tearing the younger vampire's skin.

"Elijah took away your memories. Lied to your face. He played with your feelings-no man should do that-"Katherine hissed into her ear. And was relieved a tad bit when the vampire wasn't fighting as much. She ripped it out causing Lily to choke on her own blood, Katherine was stronger than her plus the accident didn't exactly work in Lily's favour. She turned her around, the older Petrova stared into Lily's glass green orbs, the first doppelganger wouldn't admit it out loud but Katherine found it eerie her eyes were the exact same as her mama's orbs.

"Katerina let go-"Lily growled "I need answers-"

"From him? No you don't" Katherine said through gritted teeth "Some man of honour is he. He lived with you for over two weeks. You've known him for over four hundred years…can you even trust a word that comes out of his mouth?" she questioned. She surprised the red head by grabbing her hand, and also placing a hand on the nape of his neck. She dragged Lily forward into the cellar, Damon was seeing to his younger brother who was beginning to wake up.

"Look at him Lillian-some man of honour-"Katherine said viciously into her ear. Lily swallowed she was so angry and hurt that he would do this to her…but daggering him? She didn't know she wanted answers.

"He could explain-"

"He doesn't deserve a chance." Katherine sneered folding her arms across her chest "Lillian-you know what else he lied about? The whole saving Elena thing?" Lily's eyes met hers "well he lied. Elijah planned on killing her the whole time. He wanted to sacrifice your precious ancestor-"she knew that the red head was always a family person regardless.

"What?" Lily stammered "he said he'll protect her-"

"He lied." Katherine grinned triumphantly knowing she got her great-granddaughter on side. If the Salvatore fails, the oldest Petrova was more than willing to hand over Elena and the others who were needed for the sacrifice, and for Klaus…Lily would be the icing on the cake. Elijah needed to stay down.

Lily's eyes hardened and her fists clench "How do I know that you're not lying?" she snarled back, Katherine made sure to keep herself between Lily and Elijah.

"I have no reasons to lie to you Lillian. But if you think so…listen to the Salvatores. They know."

Lily blinked her mind was in a muddle "Stefan? Damon?" she said softly, Elijah wouldn't do this to her….but then again nearly four hundred years of lies…

Damon frowned, Stefan cleared his throat "I'm sorry Lily but she's right. Bonnie got Elijah's witch and found out that his whole intention was to kill Elena. if you pull out the dagger he will take her." the youngest Salvatore exclaimed.

Lily's brows furrowed, "Lily they're right." Damon said…he could never lie to her…well not about this. He could see how broken up she was about it.

"So Lillian what shall we do?" Katherine asked cocking her hip out.

Lily pressed her lips together. She was mad, more than mad actually, the red head was fuming…he lied, compelled and god knows what else. It was a risk to wake him now…regardless of the fact that she wanted answers.

"Leave the dagger in for now, it's what he deserves." Lily announced, causing a wide smile to appear on Katherine's face.

"Now there is the Petrova blood." She drawled as they exited the cellar, Lily gave one last glance over her shoulder before the door was closed. "Call me if there's an emergency. Other than that don't bother me." She said, Damon grabbed her wrist

"What- I thought-"

"You're a liar too, sort of mad at those at the moment. So if you want to keep your pretty little eyes in your skull do not bother me." Lily said flashing her fangs before blurring off.

Katherine smirked "Now you got told."

"Shut up bitch." Damon sneered and stalked off, muttering something about who was going to clean this mess up.

True to their word, Lily wasn't bothered over the next few days, she went to work and told Carol that Elijah had some family problems that he needed to deal with so he was out of town indefinitely. Her mind kept flashing back to those past memories….she seemed so happy there…so in love…but something or someone was missing. Elijah he played a big part in her life and she had no clue about it. Did that mean there could be someone else? Who had done the same?

Lily was lying in her bed, staring up at her cream coloured ceiling, she was no mood to get out of bed she had made sure to steer clear of the Boarding House, not liking the idea of being in the same place where Elijah's corpse was.

Jenna had offered her a night out in the Grill thinking Lily was down in the dumps because of Elijah leaving which was true to some extent, since the reason she was upset had something to do with a certain dark haired rat….ok he wasn't a rat-Lily rolled over and pulled her covers over her head and groaned when her alarm went off. She had papers to grade, and she did promise the Principle, that she would oversee the 60s decade dance.

Lily blindly reached out and slapped her hand down on the alarm clock; she swung her legs out of her double bed, and ran her hand through her red messy curls. She staggered towards the bathroom, and had a quick shower as well as doing her morning routine.

When she was done, Lily wrapped a towel around herself and headed towards her closet, she hadn't spoken to Katherine for a couple of days…which the red head wasn't too fussed about.

As she darted down the hallway, Lily saw her answerphone flashing alerting her that she had a message.

She pressed the green button, and swore out loud hearing Carol Lockwood's voice "Hey Lily, I just wanted you to know there's the Miranda Gilbert foundation today. Parents will be there, and it'll look good if some of the high-school staff are there, especially those who are close to the Founding families. So I'll see you there."

Lily made a face, since when the hell did she say she would go….she ran through her mental diary she could go…she would go, Carol would hunt her down if she didn't

So with that thought in mind, the vampire looked through her closet. Lily ended up decided to wear a green skirt and a wine coloured blouse. Soon enough she was dressed and in the kitchen. She was having her morning drink of blood, and had just popped two slices of bread into the toaster when her phone rang.

"Never going to get the chance to finish breakfast." Lily grumbled under her breath and downed the rest of the blood, before answering the phone.

"Lily-"Elena's frantic voice cut through

"Elena I'm not in the mood, whatever you and your-"

"It's Jenna-"this caused the vampire to stiffen, worry marred her face

"What's wrong?" Lily asked immediately.

"It's Isobel she's back in town." Elena revealed,

Shit, the vampire thought, what the hell was her great, great, great niece doing in town? Lily knew it wasn't something good.

Lily just crossed the road in time to see Alaric jogging up the porch steps and knocking haphazardly on the Gilberts front door.

"Ric-"she called out, the frantic hunter spun around seeing his friend jogging up to the porch in her heels.

"Did you know that she was back in town?" Alaric asked,

Lily shook her head "No-"the door swung open and the pair teachers saw the frantic doppelganger on the other side.

"Hey is she up yet?" Alaric asked

Elena shook her head and stepped aside allowing them through "She won't come out from her room." she explained.

Lily worriedly bit her bottom lip "Can you blame her? someone who she thought was dead isn't" she ran her fingers through her loose curls.

"What did you tell her?" Alaric asked,

Lily's heightened hearing could pick up the sounds of movements coming from upstairs, Elena came to stand by her stop, and the three were staring up from the bottom of the staircase, as if Jenna would magically appear.

"Nothing, she won't talk to me."

"Hey kid, everything will be ok." Lily found herself reassuring the teen.

"We'll have to fix this-"Alaric looked desperately at both females, Lily swallowed and heard the bedroom door opening.

"No kidding-Jenna-"Lily exclaimed seeing her friend stomping down the stairs,

"Hey-"

"I don't want you here Ric." Jenna stated ignoring them. "I need to go-"she dropped her packed bag by the front door and headed towards the coat closet.

"Where are you going to go?" Lily asked, they knew that Jenna wasn't going to take this well…but the red head didn't think she would run.

"Look-"Alaric said "I can't imagine what you must be feeling now-"

"Rage and betrayal that's what I'm feeling." Jenna spat glaring at him "

"Jen just calm down-where are you going?" Lily stepped forward as the human harshly pulled on her jacket.

"Campus, I have a thesis to write and I can't do it here." Jenna said "I don't want to be in this house at the moment." She exclaimed grabbing her other bags.

"Jenna let us explain please-"Alaric exclaimed earnestly, beating himself up, god he should have listened to Lily when she first told him to be straight with the strawberry blond haired woman.

"Elena I need you to go to the Lockwoods today, and accept the historical society's cheque for your mom's foundation. Lily will be there-"Jenna turned on her heel and opened the front door.

"Ok Jenna but please-"Elena started

"I don't have it in me to listen to anymore lies from you two." Jenna spat, tears marring her eyes; Lily could see how upset she was. She slammed the front door shut. The vampire frowned and stormed out after her best friend.

"Jenna would you stop-"Lily shouted grabbing Jenna by the arm, forcing her to halt. "They are trying to talk to you-running away isn't helping-"

"Running away?" Jenna asked in disbelief her anger was rising to the surface, "They lied-my boyfriend's supposedly dead wife is alive, and everyone knew-"she shrieked "John, Ric-my own niece how can –wait-"she saw something flicker in Lily's eyes…it was guilt, Jenna's heart dropped "You knew didn't you?" she asked.

Lily swallowed the lump in her throat "Listen Jen-"

"No-"Jenna snapped wrenching her hand away from the red head's. "I-you're meant to be my friend-"she chucked her bag into the car

"I am your friend-"

"Friends don't lie to each other. You're meant to be my best friend…and I don't want to see your face Lily-"Jenna slammed the car door shut, Lily watched as she backed out of the driveway and felt a pang in her heart seeing the one of the only people in this town she would call a true friend disappearing down the road.

She glanced over her shoulder just in time to see a heartbroken Alaric storming out of the Gilbert house.

"Ric it'll get better-"she tried to reassure her friend, Alaric forced a smile on to his face and nodded before leaving. Lily turned on her heel stomping up the porch stairs, As soon as she entered she saw John wiping blood on his nose, seems like Alaric beaten her to the punch.

"Why the hell did you do that?" Lily snarled her bright green orbs were burning into him. Elena was still reeling from watching her history teacher decking her own biological father.

"Why not? it's only a matter of time when she would learn the truth-"John spat holding his nose "soon enough Lils, Jenna will know about the vampire world and she would know once again how you lied to her face for three years-or how about the fact that you knew Elijah all along? That's another blow of betray-"John smirked

"Lily-"Elena shouted when the angry vampire blurred forward slamming John against the wall. She held him up by his throat.

John swallowed seeing the black veins protruding from around Lily's eyes. "One more word John I will force my blood down your throat and snap your neck-"she growled, he let out a choke cry when her grip became even more firm. "You'd become everything you hate John…so back the fuck off. Are we clear?" she smirked.

John's face was beginning to turn red, but he still nodded, so without further ado Lily dropped the man, causing him to land on his arse.

The red head turned on her heel and stroll passed a stunned Elena "Sorry Elena….your person here-"she gestured to John who was still crumpled on the floor "really pisses me off. Remember what I said John." The door slammed closed behind her.

Elena looked down at her biological father; a grin marred her face "You so got your ass kicked."

Lily paced around in her living room, she let out a defeated sigh when Jenna didn't pick up on the fifth ring and it went to voicemail.

"Hey this is Jenna, sorry can't come to phone right now, but leave a message and I'll call you back."

Lily flopped down into her overstuffed couch and leant her head back.

"Hey Jen it's me…you obviously aren't picking up on purpose….must be screening my calls, rather annoying don't you know?" she rubbed her hand across her temple, "Anyways I'm just rambling…because I'm being pathetic." Lily said "And I was a crappy friend…I should have told you , Alaric should have told you…hell your own niece about this…but we didn't. Look I know you're mad and hurt…just let us know when you get to campus safely, you need space I get that." Lily swallowed she didn't know what else to say, so she hanged up.

The red head threw down her phone on the sofa and stood up. She glanced at the time and saw that it wasn't even noon yet, the Historical party-thing would start around three, so she got plenty of time.

Lily padded barefooted over to her desk which she had shunted into the corner and paused seeing one of Elijah's suit jacket hanging over the back of her desk chair. She licked her lips….she did miss his company in the house…now it felt slightly empty. She scooped up the jacket and raised it to her nose, inhaling his scent.

"Oh god…I'm like one of those creepy women-"she shook her head. And headed towards the guest room where Elijah had stayed in. She pushed the oak door open and stepped in to the room, the windows were closed causing there to be a lack of fresh air, she was curious about the Original, and since the arsehole was such a big liar the red head didn't feel guilty at all rifling through his wardrobes.

"You've got to be kidding me-"she snorted seeing the array of suits which were here. "Is that all he wore?" she cocked an eyebrow, there were buttoned down shirts as well. Her hand dropped to the deep purple one and she sighed.

Sure he lied…but from her memories she could tell that she must have felt something for him. Lily closed the wardrobe doors and leant against it. She couldn't fall magically back in love with him, a lot of time passed…but another thing that added to this whole mess….was that they ran into each other…she didn't know whether he sought her out or not…if those meetings didn't occur would he just kept away?

Elijah was her maker, made her who she was today….yet like her own great grandmother said earlier he's been playing with her feelings. Infiltrated in her new life…hell he was going to let one of her descendent be killed.

The dagger needed to stay in for now, pulling it out would just create more problems especially with Isobel around town.

Lily was pulled out of her thoughts when her phone rang from the next room, she stood up and gave a quick glance over the room, and she won't be stepping back in here for a while.

She blurred towards her cell phone which was still stuffed into the sofa, she picked it up and frowned when she saw 'Caroline's' name flashing across the screen. The blond only called when she was having 'Vamp' issues.

"Caroline?"

"Oh my god Lily-"the teen said in relief, she was anxious to talk to her. "Matt knows-"she revealed, Lily's eyes widened

"What?" the red head demanded.

"Matt knows about me being a vampire-I don't know about you guys-"Caroline stammered, "I didn't mean to tell him-"

Lily rolled her eyes, wondering how on earth she was getting dragged in into some teen drama. "Right where is he?" she asked grabbing her pair of heels, perhaps the doppelganger would know where the blond jock would hide out. She closed the front door behind her, and saw Stefan entering the Gilbert house.

"I don't know I can't find him-"Caroline answered, a swoop of annoyance flew through the older vampire "I went to his house, the Grill everywhere-"Lily stepped down off her porch and walked down the path, "He's not answering his phone-"

"How could you lose him? you're a vampire-"Lily looked both ways as she crossed the street, and waved at Ethel the old lady who was passing the street in her old car.

Lily jogged up the steps "My mom walked in on me, and he just ran." Caroline said in a defeated tone,

Lily entered the Gilbert house, and flew up the stairs heading towards the doppelganger's room, where Stefan was as well.

"Lily-"Elena exclaimed and frowned seeing the look on her English teacher's face.

"Alright find him, and compel him-is he on vervaine?" Stefan's ears twitched he could hear Caroline on the other end.

"I've been slipping it into his soda at the Grill. But I didn't get to last night, so it should be out of his system."

Lily's jaw ticked at that "Ok, ok-so find him and check his blood to see if it's there in case before you compel him." she instructed

"Alright-sorry Lily-"

"No just find him." Lily hanged up, she sat down on the foot of the bad and rolled her shoulders, Elena was sitting on the window seat with Stefan beside her.

"What's going on?" Elena asked,

"Matt knows about Caroline being a vampire, thinks she had something to do with Vicki-"Lily explained, Stefan let out a tired groan and ran his fingers through his messy hair.

Elena was floored "How could this happen? This is so bad-"she uttered,

Lily licked her lips "Tell me about it."

"This is bad-Isobel, Jenna and now Matt-this-"

"Is bad, we get it-"the red head snapped, Stefan cleared his throat already knowing how on edge the red head was in the first place, since the whole Elijah revelation. She was more snappy than normal.

"Did you hear from Jenna by the way?" she asked her descendent. Elena shook her head, and was confused when an annoyed look passed across the older vampire's face. Her unanswered question was soon answered when John appeared in the doorway.

"Elena could you come downstairs please? I need to talk to you." John said, his eyes flew over to Lily and knew that her being here was going to throw a spanner in the works concerning Isobel.

Elena scoffed "I have nothing to say to you."

Lily rolled her eyes "Clearly you wasn't listening he wants to talk to you, not the other way around." She grumbled, there were too many problems around now at the moment; she didn't need some little melodrama.

"It's important you two should come down too." John sad looking at Stefan and Lily.

Lily hummed and stood up, "Might as well listen Elena-"she said softly, "you've got nothing to lose." She added.

Elena swallowed and looked at her boyfriend. Stefan nodded in agreement with what the Petrova vampire said.

They filed out of the room, Lily paused when her phone rang again, and it was Caroline. She answered on the second ring.

"Anything?" she said.

"No-I can't find him; I even went to stoner pit-nada-"the blond vampire cried,

"What about old hangout spots?" Lily asked gripping onto the banner, she could hear Elena's, Stefan's and other voices below her. Her heels clacked against the wooden staircase. "Check where Vicki's body was found." She instructed "I'm at the party later, if you still can't find him, come to me." She instructed.

"Ok-"Caroline was relieved to have the red head around, otherwise she would be completely lost in what to do.

Lily hanged up, and tucked her phone into the pocket of her skirt. And just managed to catch the tail-end of Elena's sentence.

"You invited her in-?" the doppelganger asked outraged.

"Invited who-"Lily stepped out from behind her sentence. The younger Salvatore didn't miss the way Isobel seemed to have paled. "Isobel-"the red head uttered, a flood of rage entered her system seeing one of her descendent, particularly this one.

"Aunt Lily-"Isobel took a hasty step back, but wasn't quick enough. Lily sped towards her and grabbed the younger vampire by her throat and crashed them into the wall. The red head's fangs were out

"You have some nerve-"she hissed,

Isobel choked and squirmed in the older vampire's grasp, she could feel shards of wood in her back. "Aunt Lily-"

"Don't you dare-"

"Oh my god-"Elena shouted she was completely lost as was Stefan, there was obvious some history between the red head and Elena's birth mom.

"Why are you here?" Lily growled "Five seconds to answer before I rip your tongue out-"Isobel winced, she was banking on her great aunt not to be here, since the last time they had crossed paths was about year or two before she turned…they were on frosty grounds.

"I've got information about Klaus-"Isobel shouted

"What-"Lily's grip on her loosened.

"She's got information that could save Elena-"John intervened. "Hear her out please-"Lily eyed the brunette shrewdly and after a second she abruptly let go. Causing Isobel to collapse on to her bottom.

"Oww-"Isobel glared at the red head,

"That was nothing Isobel on your feet darling you got questions to answer." Lily grabbed her by her wrist and easily pulled her onto her feet.

Isobel grimaced and rubbed her sore throat, she didn't miss the glare that was on Lily's face. "Why didn't you tell me she was here-"she hissed at John as they trailed behind the three.

"He didn't know I was here." Lily called over her shoulder,

Soon enough they were settled in the kitchen, Isobel sat down at the table whilst, the others all chose to stand around. Lily leant against the kitchen counter, arms folded across her chest.

"So talk." Lily demanded, Stefan didn't miss the way Isobel seem to flail under the red head's eye.

Isobel cleared her throat; she needed to play her cards right. "Since I was last here I've been doing everything possible to find Klaus." Elena was busy pacing up at down, Lily kept her eyes on Isobel, knowing the woman no stranger to underhand movements. "We knew our best chance to find him was before he could find you." Isobel explained.

"Best chance of what?" Stefan asked standing beside Lily, he like her didn't completely trusted Isobel.

"Keeping Elena alive." John stated

"You don't get to talk-"Elena spat "ok not after everything you've done-"she spat. The red head roll her eyes in annoyance, this was once again spiralling.

"Did you actually speak to Klaus or find him?" Lily questioned looking down at Isobel.

She shook her head "No, nobody knows where he is, but there are these rumours flying around that the doppelganger exists."

"Of course there is." Lily muttered, it was only a matter of time before that would come to light. There was a whole point of Elena being a doppelganger.

"Which means any vampire who wants to get in favour with Klaus will be lining up to capture you." John announced, Stefan glanced over to his girlfriend, Lily looked over to Isobel, something was off, and the younger vampire seemed as If she wanted to talk to her.

"I'm not buying any of this-"Elena declared "the last time you were here, you made it clear that you didn't give a damn about me." She moved forward so she was only a couple of feet away from her birth mother. "Now all of a sudden I'm supposed to believe you want to help?"

"Yeah you seem to be rocking both paths Isobel." Lily commented,

Isobel sighed and looked over to John for help, "Isobel has been helping all along. Klaus has been obsessed with finding Katherine for centauries all it would take is only one of those 1864 tomb vampires to spread the word around that Katherine is still alive and it would bring him straight here to Mystic Falls where you were bound to be discovered." John said. "So we killed them-"

"And almost killed Stefan, Damon and Lily in the process." Elena snapped.

"Lily was never meant to get caught up in this. John said she was out of town-"Isobel blurted out,

"Not the point Isobel-"Lily sniped she was still annoyed at the older Gilbert for that.

"I've got a safe house-"Isobel said, she could see things were beginning to turn and not in her favour. "The deed is in your name, no vampires can get in without your permission not even me." Isobel said to her daughter. "Let me help you."

Elena stepped up to the vampire, her eyes hardened, Lily didn't miss the way she seemed to stiffened "You want to help?" she sneered at her mother "Then get the hell out of my house." She snarled and stormed off. Stefan trailed after her,

"Aunt-"

"You've been given your marching orders dear." Lily said and also left the house, not wanting anything to do with Isobel.

Lily grimaced as she checked the time; she was so late for the bloody Lockwood thing. She cursed under her breath trying to find her car keys. Her insurance company had delivered a replacement. Now she seemed to have misplaced her keys.

"Where are they-"she mumbled, Lily was on her knees checking under the table where the bowl of keys were, she stiffened and the muscle in her jaw ticked when she felt a present behind her. "Do you make a habit of sneaking into people's homes?" she asked, standing up.

"I thought my favourite aunt would welcome me." Isobel smirked; Lily canted her head to the side as the younger vampire strolled around her house.

"What gave you that idea?" Lily said following Isobel into the kitchen. "The last time I saw you-was-"

"The year before I turned-"Isobel said,

Lily shook her head "No I saw you attending your own funeral. Makes me wonder what type of person you are to watch those who loved you, mourned you." she said,

Isobel sighed "Katherine was right-you're 'good vampire'" she said mockingly, and sauntered around the kitchen island.

"Just because I have standards and don't screw over everyone who comes into my path hardly puts me up as the 'good vampire'" she announced. Lily licked her lips "Your parents thought you dead-"

"I know they mourned-"Isobel snickered,

Lily growled "You think that's funny?" she snarled "gosh drop the act Isobel-you're not fooling me-"she declared,

Isobel narrowed her eyes and came to a stop, so they were opposite each other "Act?"

"The off switch isn't off. It wasn't off last time was it-? You can't fool me." Lily drawled "Why are you back in town?" she demanded to know.

Isobel clicked her tongue "Elena. I want to keep Elena safe-"she said.

Lily narrowed her eyes "Honey you're best friends with Katerina…that's not the case-what's the truth-tell me." She ordered. Isobel scowled

"That's it-"

"Stop lying-"Lily barked, and easily grabbed the vampire by her throat holding her down on the kitchen island. "Say the truth-"

"It is-"Isobel shouted this was one of the reasons why she didn't want to cross paths with the red head…"she's my daughter Aunt Lily, I just want to keep her safe-"Isobel's eyes met Lily's own ones…they were the same colour as Clara was the red head thought. "You should know-she is my own flesh and blood I don't want her to die. That's the truth." She choked when she felt Lily's fingers digging into her throat

"Yet you could screw over everyone else in your life?" Lily hissed bringing her face close to the younger vampire. Isobel winced "You know what that did to your mother? She was destroyed-"

"She'd get over it-"Isobel surprised the older Petrova by kicking her off, Lily was immediately back on her feet, but kept her distance. "After all Lizzie was her favourite-"she said referring to her younger sister.

"Elizabeth tried to kill herself after you were declared dead. Your father turned to alcohol and your mother refused to eat I had to use compulsion on them." Lily said coldly causing Isobel to freeze, her full lips curled up into a cruel smirk seeing the stunned look on her great niece's face. "You didn't know-"

"They weren't on the top of my priority I was-"

"Right thinking about yourself." Lily sneered "You disgust me."

Isobel scowled "Who cares? I'm dead they'll get over it-"

"They visit your grave every week, that's the only time they come together." Lily uttered, she eyed the other woman and shook her head "You really don't care do you?" Isobel's silence was her answer, she didn't. "Why are you here? Right now-I could just rip your heart out ad be done with it." Lily threatened.

Isobel swallowed "You won't kill me Lily, we're family after all." She said cockily. Lily nodded; over the decades she had kept a watch over the Petrova line, over Clara's children, their children, anyone in their bloodline, which included Isobel.

"Right-"Lily nodded and sighed, Isobel relaxed thinking that was the end, but a yelp of pain left her lips, when Lily plunged plunge the broken leg of the bar stool into her gut, and pinned her against the wall. Isobel grimaced in pain when the wooden beam entered her stomach.

"True-but doesn't mean I won't hurt you." Lily hissed and twisted it even more so. "That's for screwing Ric and Jenna over. Show yourself out when you free yourself." She took a step back and grabbed the keys, which was sitting by the sink; she had no clue how that got there.

Lily grabbed her bag and heard Isobel shouting

"You can't leave me here-"

Lily smirked "Yes I can dear. Have a good day." She stepped out of the house slamming the front door behind her, instantly cutting of Isobel's shouts for her to come back.

Lily entered the Lockwood manor, and saw that the place was busy with people, she saw several waiters and waitresses milling about. She helped herself to a glass of Champaign.

"Hey Karen-"she greeted one of her students "You working here-"

"Just a way to earn some extra money." Karen smiled, she was a tall thin blond hair teen, and whose talent lied in creative writing. Something which Lily was trying to push her into.

"Ah-right-well did you get a call from Seb Cannon yet? He's programme-"she was referring to one of the college professors from Duke who took an interest in one of Karen's assignments.

"Yep I booked an appointment." Karen said eagerly, "So nervous-"

Lily chuckled, there were other patrons around a few of them smiled and waved at the English teacher. "Don't be, I emailed him some of your other work and he has definitely taken a liking." She took a sip of the bubbly beverage.

Karen squealed and hugged her English teacher, nearly knocking the vampire off of her feet. Lily laughed and hugged her back.

"Thank you sooooo much-"she beamed.

Lily shook her head "No problem kiddo-"she glanced over her shoulder when she felt her shoulder being prodded, it was Caroline who looked stressed out. "Erm you should get back to work before Carol cracks the whip. I'll catch you later." She smiled; Karen nodded her eyes passing between the pair of females.

Lily turned to the blond when Karen left. "Well? Did you find him?" she asked about Matt. A second later Stefan and Elena joined them.

"No, what if he tells somebody?" Caroline asked desperation in her tone. Stefan bit his lips…he didn't even want to think about what would happen if that was the case.

"No we just got to find him and make sure that doesn't happen." Stefan said trying to reassure the blond.

"Where would we start-"Lily downed the rest of her drink needing it "Do you know any places he may go?" she said to Elena. Who was looking equally just as worried.

"I wish I did…but he wasn't one to really run." Elena answered.

Lily groaned "This wasn't supposed happen. I was supposed to tell him at the right moment and the right way and he was supposed to be ok with it because he loves me-"Caroline whined.

The red head shook her head and snatched another drink from a passing tray. "Caroline honey, you can't predict how someone is going to take the news. I remember finding out about vampires-"that memory was just recently discovered due to Elijah being daggered "I locked myself up and refused to come out." She squeezed her arm. "Just-we just need to find him….if we can't get through to him we'll just compel him." Lily announced. This was what they did to the Sheriff.

"I'll help you look for him. Just let me accept this for Jenna." Elena exclaimed, Caroline nodded

"Ok, just call me when you're done." The blond said.

Lily downed the rest of her drink "Lily? Seriously-"

"The way this day is going I need all the drinks I can get." She smiled falsely when she saw the mayor coming her way. "I'm just going to hide." Lily said and disappeared into the crowd, leaving the couple behind.

"You really made your way through those strawberries." Stefan whispered, he and Lily were at back of the hall leaning against the wall. The seats were all taken so they had to stand. She was still in her coat, the red head wasn't going to be sticking too long after Elena gives her speech.

"Hmm…oh yeah-"she was brought out of her daydream by a sharp prod in the ribs. "When they're covered in chocolate and cream there's no stopping me." Lily smiled,

Stefan chuckled, as Carol kept talking, the pair of vampires was nearly bored to tears at this event. "So you and Isobel huh?"

"You're not the only one who has familial issues Stefan." Lily murmured tucking a stray curl behind her ear.

Stefan sniggered but schooled his features when they got several looks from people. "So-you won't actually kill her would you?" he asked.

Lily shrugged her shoulders "She's not my favourite descendent." She admitted…but no-she wouldn't-couldn't let one of Clara's lines die, not by her hands at least, before Stefan could question her further on hers and Isobel's complex relationship, Carol's voice focused them back in the room.

"And here to accept the donation of the Miranda Sommers Gilbert's scholarship fund is Elena Gilbert." There was a round of polite applause as the doppelganger made her way towards the small podium.

Lily forced herself to listen "The historical society was my mom's baby. She considered all of you family-"Elena said on stage "and would be honoured and touch by this gift-"she said. Lily stiffened and felt Stefan doing the same beside her. The pair's heightened hearing picked up the sound of a body tumbling down the stairs.

"Oh wow-"Lily exclaimed seeing John falling down the stairs, there was a wave of gasps. Stefan didn't waste any time and rushed towards the fallen man. Lily hurriedly followed and she knelt down beside him.

"Lily-"Stefan whispered as a crowd of people hurriedly gathered around them. The red head didn't miss the large bite mark.

"Vampire-"she breathed. There was one here, Lily frowned…something was wrong. "He'll be fine-"she stood up and pushed her way back through to the hall. "Elena we have to go-"she said.

"Oh my god is John-"the teen started

Lily shook her head and moved forward "This is a distraction-"she started. Elena's brows furrowed

"Distraction from-Lil-"she gasped when, Katherine appeared behind the red head, and snapped the unsuspecting vampire's neck. The red head dropped to the ground landing in a crumpled heap.

"Distraction from me." Katherine smirked and quickly silenced her doppelganger by slamming her palm over Elena's mouth. "Nice dress…mind if I borrow it?" that was the last thing Elena heard before she was plunged into world darkness.

Lily groaned in pain and blinked; she was thoroughly confused…and why the hell was there a leaf on her face? She slowly sat up and rubbed her sore neck. She blinked away the haze that covered her eyes and rolled her neck back and forth, she grimaced hearing it click.

She looked around and saw that…her first assumption was right…she was a few yards away from Lockwood manner. Before she could get on her feet, her phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket and saw that there were several messages, all from either Stefan or Damon.

She opened the latest one "Isobel has got Elena. We don't know where she would take her."

"Classy Katerina dumping a body in the bush." She shoved her phone back into her pocket, all the whilst thinking where would Isobel take her daughter.

Lily only came up with one conclusion, it was a long shot but it could be right. The vampire looked around and saw no one else, so without further ado, Lily used her vampire speed and disappeared to the only place she could think where Isobel would take Elena.

Lily perked up and glanced over her shoulder hearing the sound of car tyres crunching against the dirt. She was sitting atop a familiar grave stone, and crossed her arms in front of her chest when she saw her descendent. She could hear the sound of water running in the lake…it was hitting the rocks.

Isobel sighed "I should have known you would have figured it out." she uttered as she climbed out of the car.

Lily rolled her eyes "Yeah you're kind of predictable, next time you see Katherine tell her I'll be doing the snapping." She licked her lips,

Isobel shoved her hands into the pocket of her coat, "Just because you can't be compelled doesn't mean I can't force you to come with me."

"That's bad parenting-"Lily said mockingly.

"Lily?" Elena called out and stepped out of the car more than willingly hearing the English teacher's voice.

"Yes. " Elena relaxed and followed after her birthmother as they headed in Lily's direction. Despite the sun being out the air was still chilly, Lily felt the cold breeze hit her skin, she mentally reminded herself that she needed to go back to the Lockwoods to pick up her car.

"So were you compelled to betray Katherine?" Elena asked,

"If I was I couldn't tell you." Isobel said.

Lily scoffed "There we go again, I knew you was nothing more than a conniving little bitch-no wonder you got on so well with Katherine." she spat,

Isobel's jaw clench, the red head hadn't been discrete at all in her dislike towards her. And the younger vampire knew she hadn't done herself any favours.

"So you lied, you did find Klaus." Elena stated "he knows where I am now? Were you going to take me to him?" Elena asked. She knew that with Lily here she wouldn't be taken away, as the red head wouldn't give into Isobel.

"Aunt-"

"Don't-"Lily snapped

"Fine, Lily do you mind?" Isobel said, the red head was actually more curious to know why the brunette had taken Elena of all places here. So without argument Lily slipped off the gravestone and stood beside it.

Elena frowned and watched as Isobel brushed off some leaves to reveal 'Isobel Flemming' written across the gravestone.

Lily still remembered when Isobel parents had this put up, "My parents your grandparents they put it here when it became clear the police weren't going to find my body…according to Lily every week they come with your aunt-my sister Elizabeth to put flowers of the grave, even though there's nobody there." She said quietly having Elena's complete attention. Her eyes met Lily's emerald green orbs. "The Isobel you knew-they knew is dead. So maybe there is a part of me that-the human part-the part that I abandoned when I chose to become a vampire-the part that used to dream about the day that she'd know her daughter-"Lily stilled, watching a genuine smile cross Isobel's features. Perhaps there was hope for her after all.

"What?" Elena asked stunned.

Isobel shrugged her shoulders, "Instead you got to meet the other part, the part that would betray her own flesh and blood."

"Isobel-"Lily said softly taking a step forward but the other vampire's phone rang.

The older vampire watched as she answered it, her attention switched to Elena who was looking at her.

"Are you ok?" the doppelganger asked her ancestor, "after the-"

"Getting my neck broken?" Lily chuckled seeing the look on Elena's face when she said those words.

"Yeah-"

"Just sore-what about you?"

"I'm fine." Elena nodded but they both stopped when they heard Isobel, Lily hadn't been listening in on her conversation.

"Let her go?" Isobel's eyes met Lily's orbs. "OK." She hanged up. "You can go Elena; I won't be bothering you-"she declared, Elena was flummoxed as was Lily, all this effort to snatch the doppelganger only to just let her go?

"Isobel what are you-"

Isobel inhaled and her eyes watered, Lily knew that the brunette had flipped her humanity back on, there was raw emotion in her eyes. "I'm sorry I was such a disappointment to you Elena." she said.

Lily swallowed "Isobel-"

"And to you Aunt Lily-I was horrible-I-"a sob tore from Isobel's throat "I-you were right I didn't think-I never did-"

"Isobel it's ok-let's just get out of here and we'll go for a drink-"Lily said reaching out to her, she didn't like the way Isobel was talking about herself.

"I can't-I did so much-"Isobel wiped her face, the red head was reminded of the little girl she had seen nearly twenty years ago…when she came crying to her.

"Isobel-"

"You're right-"Isobel sniffed and raised her hand to her daylight necklace "Everybody would be better off if I wasn't here-I'm sorry-"she ripped off her necklace and immediately screamed in pain as the sun rays hit her.

"OH MY GOD-"Elena screamed,

"NO-"Lily ripped off her coat and knocked Isobel off of her, using her coat to shield her, she could feel the heat coming from her, the older vampire was using her body-

"Just let me-"Isobel gasped,

"No-"the older Petrova growled, they needed to get out of the sun, Isobel cried out as she felt fire breaking out on her skin, on the parts that we're covered. Lily gritted her teeth and groped around she could feel her own skin burning against Isobel she snatched the necklace from the floor.

"Lily there's a lake-"Elena shouted, and she could only see flashes of red hair and dark brown as the English teacher threw them against the tree.

"Please Aunt Lily just-you were right—"Lily slammed against the half burnt vampire against a tree trunk, she could see Isobel already healing.

"I was wrong-you-you made mistakes; I was a bitch Isobel-"the red head growled, as the sun peeked through the leaves. "I am not going to let you kill yourself. You got an eternity ahead of you-"Lily gripped her around the waist and flew them towards another tree. She was heading towards the lake.

"Lily just let me-"

"You could do so much good Isobel-"Lily's hold tightened when the suicidal vampire tried to push her away. She whimpered in pain as the sun once again hit her skin, Lily's coat was beginning to scorch since Isobel wasn't completely covered. They were in the open she could vaguely hear Elena calling either of the Salvatores.

"Why are you so bent of keeping me alive-"Isobel kicked Lily hard sending her skidding across the dirt covered ground. She pulled her coat off. And her whole body seemed to be flaming up. Lily snarled since she was older she was faster.

Elena gasped as Lily threw herself and Isobel into the icy depths of the lake; she sprinted towards the pair of Petrovas, peering over the edge to see if she could catch sight of them.

Lily inhaled the water and blinked, shaking her head, she saw Isobel swimming upwards towards the surface, the red head's curls floated around her, she reached up and yanked Isobel's ankle down, and grabbed her shoulders and shoved her down.

"Lily-"the words were lost in the water, Lily gripped Isobel by her neck and snapped it knocking her out. She could feel her lungs beginning to burn for air, she unclenched her hand revealing Isobel's daylight necklace. And speedily put it on her.

Lily knew she was drowning, her lungs were ballooning and she felt the corners of her eyes beginning to darken, but a swift tug on her wrist pulled her up. Lily gasped and her chest heaved.

"Stefan?"

"Yeah come on-"he grunted he hauled Isobel onto the land, where Damon made a grab for Elena's biological mother. And pulled her onto the bank. Stefan was next and then he helped Lily.

"Well how was the swim?" Damon smirked, Lily rolled her eyes "Whoa Lily the wet looks suits you-"he wagged his eyebrows up and down suggestively. She looked down and felt as if her face was on fire when she saw her top was see-through.

Stefan immediately looked away, whilst the older Salvatore simply just stared. Elena threw her Katherine's jacket, since the vampire had swapped their clothes.

"Really don't cover-"Damon grinned, Lily smiled and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and threw him into the water.

"There…got rid of that little problem," Lily declared and looked down at Isobel. Here was the next one.

Lily leant against her doorframe; she was holding a glass of blood. She had decided it was best to bring Isobel here, since neither of the Salvatores or Elena wanted to see her, since she betrayed them.

She watched for a second as Isobel started to wake up. "Here this should sort out the kink in your muscles-"Lily came to sit on the edge of the bed. Isobel slowly took the cup and sniffed it for anything harmful. "Isobel-"she chuckled "if I wanted to kill you, I would have let you burnt." She said. "You're safe." She smiled at her descendent.

Isobel gave her a shaky smile back, and took a sip of the warm blood, instantly letting out a moan of satisfaction.

"Good huh?"

Isobel cleared her throat "Why did you save me? Better yet why are you being nice? You should have-"

"No." Lily cut her off, "despite what you think Isobel…I care for you. You've done terrible things…but you…there's that still human part of you I see." She murmured, the only sound that was coming from the small house was the radio in the kitchen. "You're-you've got so much time to do good things, you're not evil Isobel, manipulative? Yes, selfish? Yes…but after all you are a Petrova." Lily uttered causing Isobel to let out a soft laugh.

"I know what you did…in your own twisted way was trying to protect Elena. so you're not all bad." Isobel was overwhelmed by the red head kindness. Lily patted her on the back "So fancy some dinner? I was going to make pasta-go clean yourself up."

Lily jumped onto her feet, seems like she wasn't going to be completely alone now, despite of the departure of her house guest.

"Aunt Lily-"Isobel called out, cutting the older vampire off mid-rant. "Thank you."

Lily smiled and glanced over her shoulder and smiled sincerely at Isobel. "Anytime." She said before leaving.

The red head vampire yawned and rubbed her eyes. She had just put the food on the table when she noticed her answering machine flashing.

"Huh-"Lily pressed the button and was relieved hearing who it was.

"Lily, it's me-"Jenna's voice broke out through the machine "sorry I-I'm fine. I get why no one said anything…I'm just hurt you know. I'll talk to you when I come back…so try not to get too drunk without me. And when you see Ric, tell him…he'll get his chance to explain. Anyway love ya and see you later. Bye."

Lily had felt a massive weight lift of her shoulders that was one thing put to rest in her mind. It had been a long day she had spent the last hour or so in the kitchen, "Isobel? You done in the shower?" she called out "Isobel-woman I know you were filthy but this is ridiculous-"she knocked on the bathroom door, and frowned, her heightened hearing didn't pick up the sound of running water. She gripped the doorknob and turned it then pushed the oak door wide open.

It was empty, there was no Isobel there. "Isobel? Where-"she looked in her bedroom, since that was where she had left the vampire earlier, and frowned when the bed was empty.

Lily sighed seeing the open window. She turned on her heel; there was a sinking feeling in her gut. She paused as she was about to leave the room, and saw a note on her vanity table.

"Aunt Lily-"the red head read "thank you for believing in me. It's been so long since anyone has done that. You're right, I can do so much good…and I'm going to do just that. I'll see you , but for now goodbye. Your Isobel."

Lily smiled maybe, just maybe Isobel will turn her life around. "Goodbye Isobel Flemming." She murmured and turned on her heel, to have her meal.
