CHAPTER 2
Blaine was so busy with things, planning the proposal that he didn't get round to talking about his college plans with Kurt. He decided to propose first, see what the answer was, then decide from there. Of course Kurt had agreed and they were engaged, Now Blaine had to talk about college. His parents had wanted him to take Julliard over NYADA so that he could do his degree in music, perfect his skill then turn his degree to something more secure like teaching Music in a school like Dalton. They didn't like the idea of Blaine going into theatre as they knew how competitive the world was, and while Blaine was amazing in their eyes, they worried about he would be able to financial secure with such a high density job. Blaine understood their view, but he had argued that if he did Drama at NYADA then he could go to a school and teach drama. While his parents had agreed, he knew they wanted him at Julliard.
He called Kurt that evening to talk about it
"Hey Blaine, how's it going? Kurt said with a smile
"It's good thanks, how is it going with you?"
"Oh it's been manic, I mean crazy, You know I had to take that time off for Finn? Well Cassandra has been working me doubly hard, we are trying to get a new line out at Vogue for the summer, and then of course there is the diner, which is taking up time, oh and I started auditioning for my Madonna tribute band, which is going well, but we have this new guy with us, whose vocal range rivals mine, so we seem to be competing as lot. Then of course there are my housemates Santana and Rachel who are driving me insane. I mean I know Rachel is devastated after Finn's death but she has just started to pull herself together and has been rehearsing for Fanny Price, which means she is taking up the apartment at all times, and going on and on about it. I mean you would think Rachel would be considerate that some of us have busy schedules but then no. Santana has a new girl, whose here all the time, so it's always crowded, I mean she's nice you know, I like her and think she's a good match for Santana. She plays the guitar too, wait till you meet her, you'll love her. You know when you move into the loft with us when you start in New York, I mean it will be pretty crowded but you and I would share a living space anyway, it would be great way to plan and get ready for moving in together once we are married .Of course we will need to work on some of your habits and find a space for your clothing, though thankfully you repeat more of your outfits than I do, So you'll need less room. Plus you like Blue don't you? I mean it's the coloured bedding I have so rather than get some new stuff, we save your money for the wedding and just get by on my things. So did you hear from any colleges yet?" Kurt asked finally seeming to realise Blaine was still there and taking a breath.
Blaine blinked, almost like he was coming out of a trance, that was a lot to take in
"Yeah, um, I have heard from Julliard.."
"Oh Julliard? I mean don't get me wrong it's a good school I think I have heard people talking about it, but I doubt it compares to NYADA, just think if you got into NYADA we could be like a power couple storming the halls together. I'd be the experienced sophomore; you'd be the gorgeous freshman and entirely mine too"
"Yeah and I got accepted into NYADA..."
"Oh. See your choice is made. NYADA will win obviously, now we need to talk about accommodations, you'll be here over the summer no doubt till you settle in, so I will have to think about re-arranging a few things now rather than later..."
"Kurt..." Blaine tried
"...and of course the kitchen space to and the lounge, we'll talk about bills and things when you get here. Oh that is good news I will start getting things ready..."
"Kurt..." Blaine tried again
"Oh and I will need to tell the landlady about you moving in, health and safety you know..." Kurt continued
"KURT!" Blaine finally shouted getting Kurt's attention
"You don't have to shout Blaine. I was just going over everything so it's ready and you can move straight in..."
"We need to talk about this Kurt" Blaine said
"We are Blaine" Kurt argued
"No Kurt, you are talking, I am listening, this is what happened last time. You said we needed to be honest with each other? So I am. I love you Kurt and I am so happy you decided to get engaged to me, but I want to make my own choices."
"I just figured we'd save money by not bothering to buy anything new, so we can have a bigger wedding.."
"It's not just about the wedding Kurt. It's this. We need to get this communication things sorted"
"Which will be easier once we are living together" Kurt finished
"That's the thing, I am not sure it won't. We need to talk about things, together, not one talking and the other quietly listening trying to get a word in edgewise..."
"I opened this conversation, giving you the opportunity to talk first Blaine, but you chose not to take it. Then you asked me and my life has been so busy, I have so much to say..."
"Kurt, will you listen to me please, there was a catch with NYADA" He said
"Oh what was the catch? You never mentioned. But then NYADA is such an oversubscribed place that something was bound to happen, you know how much trouble Adam took to get in..."
"Kurt can I finish. Please. Can I just have silence till I finish?
"Fine. No need to be so petty Blaine, you just had to say" Kurt answered
Kurt watched Blaine over the monitor and saw him take a deep breath, before rubbing the bridge of his nose and running a hand through his hair. He saw the tell tale warning signs Blaine was stressed. Had it been like this last time and he failed to notice before Blaine strayed? He thought momentarily back to the conversation just now and realised how one sided it had been. He really needed to stop doing that. He just couldn't help himself sometimes. He stopped for a second
"I'm sorry Blaine, I'm just really excited that you will be moving to New York with me, and we can see each other, I miss you so much, being so far" Kurt said blushing softly I'm sorry you wanted me to be quiet and listen."
"I know your excited Kurt. It's one of things I love about you and your organisation. NYADA have offered me a place for January 2013, not September. While Julliard have offered me a place for September 2013. It's in music with a minor in drama. I was thinking about it Kurt, and I just don't know what to do. I know I would love to go to NYADA but I would have to wait till January, I could always get a job n the mean time and save up."
He saw Kurt nod his head
"I mean you did it, and you have done really well so it is possible and that was knowing that you may not get into NYADA, but this year, Marley and I have been writing music together, well her lyrics and Sam and I have been sorting out the music behind it, as we are quite a musically talented group this year, and I love writing my own music and getting my feelings out. And when I am finished I could work back stage in theatre or write music and songs for movies and shows. Kurt what do you think?" Blaine asked inviting Kurt back into the conversation
"But you like performing Blaine. You like being the centre of attention, like all great performers, myself and Rachel included. Theatre would give you a chance to do that and get lead roles that you know you were born to play. I mean they offered you Danny from Grease on a plate Finn told me, but you turned it down. You are multi talented and I just don't think you are musical. You're a performer, you sing, act and dance. You are more likely to get offered more roles with that. Would you really be happy having someone play your music? Or doing a concert on stage playing your songs rather than being on stage in front of an audience of hundreds and acting?"
"To be honest, the idea of other people playing my music is a little hard to get around, but yes I would be happy to be on stage and sing, and I could do music video's so I could use my creativity and acting skills then. Plus the other thing is I could take my degree and I can always use it to teach if i need to, and can always do community theatre..."
"It seems you have made up your mind Blaine, this is you and not your parents talking yes?"
"Julliard was their preference but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense"
"It's up to you, I just think you would miss acting but I guess at least we won't be competing for anything, and its not like we are rival show choirs. It will mean I see you less, but as we live together I am sure it will be doable"
"That's the other thing. Tina and Sam are moving to New York and were talking about getting an apartment..."
"Poor Sam, I mean Tina used to be lovely but at the moment, she's a nightmare. Channelling Rachel I think, living with her could be difficult. So you were saying..."
"I was thinking maybe moving in with them for the first year, just to find my feet"
"Why not move in with me in the loft?"
"To be honest, you have 3 big personalities in that loft and I am not sure it would be good for any of us. Plus I just like the idea of living with friends for a while you know?"
"You propose. I said yes. You are moving to New York but going to a different college, which I support, but will already limit our time together, so at least living together, you know we would get to see each other daily, but now we you moving in with Sam and Tina, we could prepare for when we get married and live together you know?"
"I know Kurt, but I think the independence will do us good, then maybe next year move in together, just the two of us, we have to re-get to know each Kurt. The space will allow us to do that. We can see each other most days, have sleepover and dinner together, we can make it work Kurt." Blaine argued "And I would like to experience a little of student life like living with friends"
"Along with the Freshman experience of drugs, alcohol, and nights of passion you don't remember with huge hangovers and being late for lectures and kissing random partners for dares?"
"My nights of passion would only be with you Kurt, and I remember all my nights with you, Don't be like this Kurt. I love you!"
Kurt sighed. He knew how Blaine could have taken his comment, and he knew Blaine knew what he was implying but Blaine had just laughed it off. Blaine wasn't looking for an argument, but Kurt was disappointed.
"I just don't think it's a good idea, with our schedules squeezing time in together is going to be hard enough at least if I knew I would see you when I came home, I would be happier"
"We can crash at each other's when we have finished for the day"
"But what if you move miles away?"
"I won't. We'll move somewhere close. Please Kurt, you know I used to do anything for you, and now I am realising I want to be a part of your life not the centre of my life and I have to think of my happiness too, and I think living together at the moment will be the worse thing for our relationship, long dates, long nights, sly kisses and sneaky sex while Tina and Sam are sitting in the lounge..."
"Oh come on! Sneaky sex? Really? Neither of us are ever quiet..."
"It will feel brand new, like we are starting over and just think when we can get an apartment of our own the year after..."
"What about money Blaine? Apartments are expensive for you guys especially in Sam's situation"
"That's already been planned, Sam's been working extra your Dad, saving up and I still have my money from the summer, so does Tina from her work at the Vet's"
"The Vet's?"
"Yeah she wanted it for a back up, and the way she could get it was work for the vets, so she has a part time assistant job, and her parents will help her of course..."
"Your parents will help you too?"
"My Grandmother is helping us...I wanted it to be a surprise"
"Oh how come?"
"She brought property years ago in New York, she brought one in California too for when Cooper and I went to college. She's been letting it out to people like students for the last 12 years, and her last tenant's lease is up end of July 2013. She planned it so when I went to college in New York I would have a home. So all we have to pay for is the bills. You are the only person to know this, I haven't even told Tina and Sam yet. So they can save their money, and earn extra so they can move out after the first year, then you can move in with me and we'll have our very own little apartment. And as fate would have it, it's a 10 minute walk from your loft"
"Wow. That's lucky"
"Yeah My Grandfather was always good at looking for investments, he owned a fair few places round the states and got them while they were cheap, and now most are worth double what he paid, and since his passing my grandmother has taken over his work. They only own one in New York, which I thought was strange, but apparently New York has never been as cheap as everywhere else. So what do you think?"
"So let me get this straight, You would like the flat as a place for the next year with your friends, but next year, you would allow me to move in..."
"Rent free!"
"Rent free, and we would have a place together, in New York which we could decorate to our hearts content?"
"Yes"
"Why can't we move in now?"
"I knew you asked that and I should have told you that at the beginning. When I told my grandma that I was engaged, she was happy for me, but she is still a little traditional and wished that we would be engaged for a year or more before a wedding and moving in together"
"So we would have a place of our own, but we would have to obey your grandma's rules?"
"It's a small price to pay Kurt, and she didn't demand, she requested and I would like to follow through with the request besides imagine if we had the place all sorted, the extra money you could spend planning the wedding or even a honeymoon?"
"There are no other rules are there?"
"My grandmother has one more request...she wants to me to marry the man who has stolen my heart, he needs to be kind and loving, giving and compassionate, feisty and ready to defend me when I need it and must love me unconditionally. Do you Kurt Hummel think you are up to the job?"
Kurt's heart melted. He knew at he loved Blaine unconditionally. He had proved that forgiving him for his digression eventually by saying that Blaine made him feel safe and loved. He hoped he did the same for Blaine, even when he was bitchy.
"Of course Mr Anderson, It would be an honour " Kurt said "I'm sorry about earlier. I do trust you Blaine and I do love you. And the fact you are offering me a home, just makes me once more grateful for your generosity. And to be honest I think my Dad would like that idea better, you know how he is. So my gorgeous boyfriend is going to Julliard, living with his friends and making me a part of his life and not the centre of his life, and not backing down to me? Not choosing a school because of me or a city because of me? You've really changed Blaine, and I am really proud of you" He said looking at Blaine who smiled through teary eyes
"I want you to be. You always zig when I think you are going to zag and I just love that about you. So you're OK with it all?"
"I am. Besides sleepover will be fun, and my fiancé will get to be in the same city as me. I love you Blaine"
"I love you too" Blaine replied
The rest of the conversation was light hearted, Kurt talking about colour schemes for the apartment and Blaine patiently listening. Like always. Because you'd do anything for the one you loved. Wouldn't you?
