AN: Ah the final chapter. I've been planning this for some time now. Special thanks to everyone who has reviewed, favorited and followed this story.
Epilogue
"Come on Icestorm, one more kit to go!" Icestorm ground her teeth together as another spasm of pain racked her body. Greenclaw was at her side, giving her words of encouragement while Brambleheart paced outside the nursery. She was thankful he didn't see her like this.
After what felt like moons, the second kit finally arrived. Icestorm let out a sigh of relief when she realized that it was over. Greenclaw licked the kit's fur the wrong way as she recovered from the shock. His expression was bright with warmth when he passed the kit to her.
"Two healthy she-cats," he announced when Brambleheart peered inside. Cranefeather's kits nearly tackled Brambleheart over after hearing the news. Icestorm held back a purr of amusement when she saw the awe in their eyes.
"How'd they get there?" Hawkkit asked.
"That is a secret only mothers know," Cranefeather murmured after grabbing Hawkkit by the scruff. The light brown kit squealed in annoyance as she was carried back to her nest. Brambleheart padded in once they left Icestorm's side.
"Icestorm, they're beautiful," he purred. One was a golden brown tabby kit. Icestorm wasn't sure where the tabby markings came from. Neither she or Brambleheart were tabbies. The second was a light ginger kit. She looked more like Brambleheart than her sister. "Have you thought of names for them?"
She looked at the kits thoughtfully. She had several moons to think over possible names. With everything that had happened, she could only think of two names that came to mind.
"I like Falconkit for the golden tabby," she rasped. "And Rosekit for the light ginger."
A shiver ran down Icestorm's spine at the name. She had felt so conflicted with her mother since the Clan had returned. Flarestar had sent Reedshine to make sure the Clans were following their new tradition. Thankfully no kits had been found since the Gathering so many moons ago.
"Those are perfect names," Brambleheart murmured. He looked taken aback by Icestorm's decision to name one of her kits after her mother. But maybe having a reminder of what her mother had done for her was a good thing.
Rosefall has changed the way the Clans behave, Icestorm reminded herself. And maybe it is time I changed for the better.
She breathed in Brambleheart's warm scent before falling asleep. Exhaustion had crept over her like a wave, and for a moment, she wondered if this was what her mother had gone through when she was born.
. . .
Pride swelled within Rosefall as she watched her daughter's kits. For some time she had felt the sickness growing within her since LeafClan left the forest. The Clan did not foresee her death. But she was happy to move on. When the laws had been changed, Rosefall finally felt at peace.
"They will make fine warriors," Graystar purred. Rosefall leaned against her father, thankful for his support.
She was more than surprised to be greeted by him upon her arrival. Though Graystar had been upset that she died so young, he was happy to see her again. And she had to admit it was nice to see him looking so strong and powerful like the old days.
"I hope that one day they will meet the other Clans, in peace of course," she sighed.
Maybe Icestorm would feel the need to visit the Clans. Rosefall had been so hopeful that her daughter would forgive her. But when Icestorm had refused to join the Clan, hurt clawed at her heart. Rosefall couldn't blame Icestorm for hating her. She should have put up a fight when the Clan marked her daughter as Chosen.
"Pray that it is on better terms," Graystar rasped. She nodded in agreement. The last thing the Clans needed was another full-out war.
They had only just recovered from the one caused by Fallenstar. Rosefall could only hope and pray that the Clans would have peace for another few moons. She wanted her sister's last few seasons to be good and full of joy. And her daughter's kits would become the finest warriors LeafClan had ever seen.
AN: So there you have it. Rosefall passed away at a fairly young age, and Icestorm will find that out the hard way. You can wrap around your minds what happens next ;)
Big thanks to Jaystorm of NightClan for the inspiration behind this story.
