I apologize dearly for my lack of updating. I'm trying my very hardest! Oh, and to Americans, have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Perhaps this journey was dragging on longer than needed, but at least I finally got the acceptance needed to continue. I no longer felt like a stranger, and it was different following orders from Green. I'm used to doing my own thing, unless Vaati asked me to do something, then it would be more like abuse than a request. If I were to pick which was better, it definitely would be Green as a leader. I almost had to force myself to get up that morning, but after smelling the nice sent of fish that Red had been cooking up, how could I resist? Our meal was quick. Blue and Green who had already eaten, packed up while Vio, Red and I finished out meal. Everyone was happy, besides Blue of course (always being the Debby-downer he is, I wouldn't expect anything less). Blue yelled orders at Green, who just retaliated with more orders, how those two even work together is beyond me. Red asked for some assistance on cleaning up the cooking equipment, and I found myself happy to help. Lissa shot herself awake right as things were beginning to get calm. She ate up some of what Red had saved her, then resumed her place on my shoulder. The morning routine felt comforting to me, despite how difficult it was to scrub out the excess fish from the pan.
The second we left, the excited chatter began from Red as he continued to explain to Blue his bravery on the previous attack. He walked with pride, feeling in tip-top shape after the usage of a fairy. Vio pulled out one of his books, but instead of reading it in silence, he decided to explain some things to me.
"Scientists have been researching the gate to the Dark World." he told me, pointing to some words in a book that I didn't bother to read. "They're saying that only the weak, hurt, and hardly strong monsters survived." he placed the book back into his pouch and took out the last edition of Hyrule Weekly. What a nerd. "from what I've read, only viscous, strong monsters remain in Hyrule, and luckily for us, those numbers are small." his blue eyes locked with mine, eye contact was the only way he knew how to speak when there wasn't a book to distract them. "Which means we must be close to being able to rest."
Green was interested as well, but after that he chimed in.
"A hero never rests." the Green hero chuckled in delight. "We'll always have to help the Princess."
Blue groaned, over hearing this.
"Can't we get a break? Like.. let's go on vacation or something. I hear Holodrum has pretty cool places to relax.
"Maybe even Labrynna!" Red excitedly added.
Yes, this certainly is better than working with Vaati.
"Fine, maybe I'll remain a knight." the leader added.
"Wouldn't a vacation be more effective with all of us?" Vio contributed to the conversation. The other boys looked at him, it seemed as though Blue's mouth dropped.
"Y-Yeah! Definitely~" Red's tone went from shocked to excited in a matter of moments. "And if Yellow stays with us, he can come, too!"
I just nodded. Everything was going well, so I'm sure I'd be able to stay. I gave them a large smile.
"We'll definitely have to check out what's around here to see where to go!" I found myself saying. Red giggled at the answer.
The rest of the way to Castle Town wasn't a bore.
The smell of smoke. We could all smell it from almost a mile away, even see it as we grew closer. It floated in large clouds, not in small ones like a chimney. What did we miss...? I pray to the Goddesses nothing happened. No matter how stupid it looked, I still was part of the team, and I had to at least seem concerned. But not only was I a good actor, I felt my heart racing. The smoke alarmed me, I was trying to convince myself I didn't care about that ridiculous town, but I did.
The entire town was on fire, we all stood there feeling helpless.
"ZELDA!" Green yelled, running into the flames.
"You idiot!" Blue called for him, following. Red was worried, but when Vio hadn't moved, neither did he.
"We don't need three idiots going in." the logical Link said. Red was nervous, but stayed at the boarders. We decided to go in eventually, but not deep into the homes. Most of the people had run off and evacuated. I'm sure I saved a few cats and other caged in animals, but Vio climbed in and saved a few Hylians and house pets, Red too. I guess I personally just didn't know what to do. Green and Blue came back, burns on pieces of their tunics. The Princess had escaped, and we waited while the fires went out.
The area was in crumbles. Some magicians used magic to seal the fire from going farther than the cities boarders before evacuating. After all of the fires were out, we wandered in. It was as if nothing had been there besides a few stone relics and the castle, which seems vacant.
"I see something!" Red called, going over behind a home. I waited to see what he could have possibly seen from out view, but he must have seen it through the windows. He came back, a large fire ball with a face sat on the edge of Red's fire rod.
"Do you think it's the culprit?" Green asked, turning to Vio.
"Definitely." he added, distracted. He tracked his way to the library, no one followed him.
"It can't be!" Red complained, "it's just too cute." he smiled, the little fire ball purred. Blue was disgusted.
"Yeah? People often say 'wow! That little red guy has such a cute personality! He couldn't hurt a fly!', you think the monsters you kill think the same thing?" Red frowned at Blue's analysis. It was true though, Red was probably the one people expected almost nothing from, yet they didn't know his true potential. Despite this, Red wouldn't give up.
"No way he did it on purpose then!"
"Come on Red, we have to get rid of the thing." Green added.
"No!"
"You're acting like a child." Blue mentioned, but the red clothed child refused to give in. He just continued to pout.
"I am not.." he began to tear up with his typical innocent attitude showing. "It's safe, it has to be.." all of his faith was put into a little puff he couldn't even touch. "We can tame it." he suddenly said. Blue glared at this reaction.
"Tame THAT?" he began to laugh. "It may have killed a lot of people, and you want to tame it?"
"All the better!" he smiled through his tears. Blue just groaned.
Green stopped the conversation, as the leader, he was main dictator.
"We can't keep it because something needs to be held responsible for this. Where are we meant to keep it, anyway? This city is destroyed, it needs to be rebuilt, and we can't keep it around while it's being rebuilt. There's not doubt that it's the fault of this thing, either."
Red refused still, not even their leader could persuade him. Lissa had enough.
"A'right kid, do you want to know what you're holding?" Red gave the fairy curious eyes as she flew in front of him.
"You're holding what the fairies have rumored as the spit of Demise. You know, that evil dude from thousands of years ago? Those little spits do so much damage for fun, because they think it's funny. They're seen all over the place in different worlds like the demon world or whatever. Once they're all done with their fun, they eat up the dead corpses they left, then regain their power to kill again. Sounds fun, right? I'm sure it does, especially since it doesn't really care who it kills. Survival to the fittest, kid."
For once, the words that spewed out of Lissa's mouth was useful. Why she didn't show this before, I will never know, but right now, she's showing him up. After scanning the area, no one had died, thus saying the little puff wasn't able to 'eat', but either way it's kind of gross that it physically eats humans dead corpses. Ew.
"It can't-" Blue cut Red off again.
"We gotta kill it." he unsheathed his sword. "I'll be happy to do it." Blue had a proud smirk as he flung his sword at the fire puff that was sitting on top of Red's fire rod. It jumped away before the hot-tempered hero had a chance to make the gash. Instead, he hit the ruby part of the fire rod. The ruby was much to strong to be destroyed by a simple sword, so it made a nice 'clink' noise before he was put off balance by the momentum of the sword being pushed in reverse. It bounced away into the rubble of the city.
I wandered off to find Vio, I'm sure he wouldn't want to miss the idiots chasing a ball. He had went to see the condition of the library. It was, luckily, made out of stone, but obviously books are not. He was searching for books that weren't destroyed or possibly hardly touched. The library was average sized with books that lined the walls and then four large book cases that held even more books. How many books does one town need? As I stepped in, I saw a small pile of books piled in front of the door. Of course Vio was trying to save the books.
"What are you doing?" I asked the obvious question.
"Trying to find books that aren't ruined, or I can read at least a few pages."
I examined the destruction, it was really a shame, I guess. But that's when it finally hit me. I did this once too, I was the horror that the people felt. Part of it felt good, another part of me was beginning to feel guilty. Standing in their position, I could see how it would terrorize these people. My question is that, this has happened through generations, why haven't they given up? Hylians are much different from shadow world creatures, I guess.
I picked up one of the various books, it must have been one of the books that could only be slightly read. It was a white magic books. It must not have had much of a significance to Vio, being as he can't use magic like that without an item, but it still must have felt useful to him.
"Why save books like these?" I waved the book carelessly, he gave me a disapproving glare due to its fragile condition, so I just held it.
"Knowledge is power." he told me, "the more power I have from knowledge, the more clues we can get and puzzles we can get out of."
"Sounds boring."
"I quite enjoy it."
Shadow huffed, then moved his head up to see the ceiling, which was burned open. Clouds began to roll in, creating a very dark sky. Vio looked up as well.
"It looks as if it's going to rain."
"We should get to shelter."
Vio stopped talking and looked at me before he began chuckling.
"You're an idiot." he said. I huffed in annoyance, what a nuisance he is sometimes, trying to act so incredibly intelligent. Even though he is intelligent. Intelligent bastard.
"Why am I an idiot?" I raised a brow, crossing my arms and looking against some of the exposed framing.
"Do you realize what you just said? Where are we going to look for shelter?" I looked around, I guess he was right, most of the roofs had been burned down.
There was some yelling between Blue and Red outside, Blue was chasing Red for the puff. Vio grunted, finally deciding to take charge.
"Ehem." he made the noise, and they stopped and looked at him. Red whimpered, tears streaming down his pudgy cheeks.
"Vio! Make him stop!"
Vio shook his head. "Both of you, stop. It's going to rain, I'm sure that'll put out it's flame."
"Then we have to find it shelter!" Red whined, Vio quickly turned his head.
"I've read up on this demon, it's best to let it just wither."
Lissa flew out to be her annoying self.
"I told ya!" she huffed, landing on Vio's shoulders to prove her point.
"You're all meanies!" Red complained, the fire puff turned and looked at him. Red smiled with glee at this tiny creature. He almost felt it's innocence resonate with his own- or so he thought.
Suddenly the little creature spit a large ball of fire at him. Red threw his fire rod into the air, the fire demon going along with it.
And so the fight began. How amusing this can get.
The little demon was on a set course for Red's head. I feel as though a pattern is being made, but I really can't seem to pick up on it..
Red lifted his shield for protection, and Blue instantly got into action. The little fire ball began shooting quick spits of fire. Blue blocked them, protecting Red.
"Oh Blue-"
"Don't start with that bull shit again." he cut off the grateful hero.
The small angry flame began to grow angry, shaking tremendously as it's flames began to increase not only in size, but deepen in color. It went from a safe orange to a fearsome red shade, the base of it becoming a purple that was similar to my previous hair color. It grew in size, the ashes from the buildings being sucked into its' strange body to create a darker, more gruesome structure.
"Does that still look innocent to you?" Lissa whined, I swatted her off, but she quickly returned into my adventure pouch.
Vio had finally stepped out after feeling the warm air enhance. He examined the situation at hand as it grew into something beyond what we figured we could fight.
"It seems as though we're going to need some water." He mentioned.
"I don't think we can get enough bottles for this job.." I added, taking a step back.
"We'll have to lead it to a water source, just like the other beast, we'll have to find a way to lead it a stray from it's habitat." Vio stepped down from the stairs, unsheathing his sword. He stepped around us and towards the gate, swinging the sword in the air, he called for the beast.
"Hey!" his arms waved frantically. "Come here!" it ignored him. The flame beast was soon large enough to be considered a giant. It grew short, but fat arms with long fists, it's legs similarly growing. It placed one fist on the ground and leaned its large ball body forward, its face almost touching Red's. Red stood there, eyeing the beast, tears had not yet come to his eyes as they widened in some fear. It made a loud screeching noise as it's mouth opened, something came out of it's mouth that seemed to be saliva, but when Red turned away and covered his face, obviously it was something more. Blue jumped into action and began swinging his sword at it, trying to push it back, but it instead retaliated by shooting out a ball of fire from it's stomach. The sea like clothed hero was able to jump out of the way on time, causing the flame ball to ram right into the opening of the library, destroying all of the books Vio had sorted nicely. I just had to look to Vio to see his face, it had obvious disappointment, but he quickly tried to push it away to help his comrades.
"Lake Hylia is a good distance away." Green told us, examining a map while Blue and I tried to keep the monster back and away from Red.
"Is there at least a lake?" Vio asked.
"There's a fairy fountain." Lissa chimed in after Green told them this information.
"No way! The fairies will lose their home!" her protest got Blue's attention.
"They can find another, lots of humans will lose their homes if we don't do this!"
"Are you trying to tell me that humans are more important than fairies?"
"Well you're pretty damn useless, aren't ya?"
"I've helped you plenty!"
"I think you're more of an annoying little useless runt."
Those last few words hit Lissa hard in the gut. She stopped speaking for once, she muttered something under her breath before a streak of magenta light could be seen sparkling away. Dammit, I think I needed her. Nonetheless, we had a bigger problem at hand. The giant flame monster began spitting fire at us. Green waved a hand for us to run in a certain direction. Blue wanted Red to stay put, but as the last monster had attacked Blue, this one was aiming for Red, so he had to go. Red was covering his face in pain from the previous moments in where he had a close encounter with hot spit. Blue grabbed Red's forearm and led him the entire way as we all pulled through. The trip took a bit more running than I had hopped for. For example, the amount of hills that were in the way. These hills slowed up down, but caused the fire monster to grow inside being as it consumed all of the grassland it ran over. Eventually we were running along side a hill side made of mostly dirt. After running about halfway around it, we found the cave.
When we had entered the fairy fountain, the fairies were all gone, which was good. The fountain itself was full. Hopefully we wouldn't destroy it with this plan. Blue led Red right into the fountain. Fairy fountains have special healing powers, which is why the fairies that live there are so valuable. After his minor burns were healed in the fountain, he got ready to fight, shaking lightly. Red didn't like how it felt to get burned, and he had no intentions of repeating the pain from before. The flare monster tried to get into the fairy fountain, but was much too large to fit into. It released its gruesome, large state to fit through the door. The monster dropped all of the ashes in front of the exit, that being said, it was either we kill it, or it kills us. This small ball of flame bounced towards us, glimmering with innocence. I gripped my sword, unsure of what to do. Once it got to Red who was in the springs, it stopped, not wanting to enter the water, which was its obvious weakness. From there, it began shooting a frenzy of fire spits around. We all raised our shields, but I felt my leg singed from a flame, I quickly dropped into the dirt, trying to get the fire out. I heard a weird sizzle noise when I was looking away, I quickly looked up to see what was going on. Red had splashed the little ball of fire, only splashed it. It did not like this and began spitting more and more flames. Looking at the fairy fountain, it could not take this heat. The holy waters were beginning to evaporate. I quickly jumped into action and started helping Red splash it, even using my bottle to fill up more water and pour onto it. Once it was withered down, the fires were a normal little dodongo, a very small one at that. That would be easier enough for us to kill, given it weren't so damn fast. It sped around the entire fountain area, every time we tried to hit it, it just moved out of the way. Dodongos typically were not this fast, so maybe it wasn't a dodongo, but something similar to it. Probably a distant relative or something. Nonetheless, it was a real pain in the ass. As it sped around, sparks flew up, I'm assuming those sparks were intended to make him light up again, so if we wanted to stop it, it had to be quick.
Vio tried shooting it with his arrows, but missed. Blue tried smashing it with his hammer, but was too slow. Green tried his sword, but had the same issue as Blue. Red looked to his fire rod, knowing it would be mostly useless, but then remembered something. A long time ago, a certain Miss Fairy changed it into an ice rod.. but how.. how did she upgrade it was what he was wondering. He gripped it, and turned the hot ball, a click was heard. Slowly, it began changing from a scorching hot feeling to an ice cold one. The fact that it could do that was almost unbelievable, however, it was still happening. He shot the ground with his rod, causing it to ice over. This iced ground forced the puny monster thing to slide off course and ram into a wall. Blue used this time to smash it with a hammer, but again it moved just in time. Red tried one more time, but this time, after it slid, he hit the thing, causing it to freeze over. That's when Blue was finally able to smash it with his hammer, ending the battle.
Despite all this, I have to ask.. where did Lissa go?
What does everyone think of Lissa? Your answer may decide the course of the next chapter!
