Chapter 10:

On The Road To Olympus

The only thought that Jaden had as he followed Chiron up to the Big House was that he was in trouble. Every little sign that the old centaur was giving told him that. So it came to no surprise when he passed through the cabin area and noticed his reflection on Artemis' cabin; his hands were in his pockets and his head was down. There was also no doubt that his golden eyes were a dull yellow like they always turned whenever he was upset or in trouble.

Instead, the surprise came when he reached the Big House. As soon as they had gotten to the Big House, Chiron had told him to go into the living room while he got into his wheelchair. When Jaden had gotten there, however, all he could do was stare. Aside from Seymour the leopard – who was asleep – the room was occupied by two grown men.

Both men had curly brown hair and the sharp facial features of any child of Hermes, the only differences being that one was taller than the other and that the smaller of the two was growing a beard and moustache. They also wore matching suits. At the sight of them, Jaden instantly got the feeling that they were blood brothers as well as sons of Hermes. Of course, like everyone else who first met Jaden, the two strangers stood up and brandished hidden swords at him.

" Travis, Connor, lower your weapons." Chiron ordered from behind Jaden.

" But Chiron-" the shorter of the two started.

" But nothing. He is the reason why I called you two here. I'd like you to meet Jaden Castellan."

" Another Castellan? Don't you remember what happened to the last one that crossed the border? Our older brother?" The taller of the two brothers asked.

" I know very well what happened, Travis. In fact, I find it funny you should mention your late brother. Jaden is his son." With a soft smile, Chiron turned to face the youngest of those in the room. " Jaden, I'd like you to meet your uncles Travis and Connor Stoll."

The result was stunned silence. On the wall, Seymour snorted in his sleep before licking his lips. Chiron left to go to his office, leaving Jaden alone with two expertly trained and highly dangerous, not to mention older, demigods. Instantly the stories he overheard in his cabin during the nights of the past five years returned to the front of Jaden's mind. The majority of those stories were about Travis and Connor Stoll… and the two infamous tricksters he had heard about were now standing in front of him.

Travis was the first to break free from the shock. With a twinkle in his eye and a well-known smirk on his face, he turned to his brother and flopped back into the seat he had occupied only moments before hand. No sooner had Travis resumed his earlier habit had Connor sprouted the same expression and sat down opposite his older brother. Turning to face Jaden, the younger Stoll patted the seat beside him. Almost reluctantly, Jaden approached the chair.

" So, you're our nephew?" Travis asked.

Jaden merely nodded.

" That means that you're a Hermes camper." Connor added.

Again, Jaden nodded.

" Is it true that Griffin got married to that hot tempered daughter of Apollo? What was her name? Andrea?"

" Her name is Andi." Jaden corrected.

" And he speaks!" Travis exclaimed, jumping up out of his seat.

" Careful, Trav. You might scare him." Connor reprimanded.

" You'd scare him more, what with your beard."

" No I wouldn't."

" Whatever. How was the wedding? The knucklehead forgot to invite his two favourite brothers. I bet you his best man was Ryan." Travis ignored his brother and continued asking Jaden questions.

" Um… the wedding was private, so I don't really know much about it except that they got married last year. Ryan died four years ago." Jaden replied, remembering the day that the camp was told about Ryan's death.

" What?"

All laughter dropped from the brothers' faces at the news. During the silence that followed the news, Jaden curled up on the couch and closed his eyes. He remembered the day like it was a page in an open picture book. The entire camp was in the amphitheatre during sing-a-long when a satyr hurried over to Chiron and whispered something in his ear. Chiron had then hurried away, ordering all campers back to their cabins. The next morning, the camp had gotten the news that only two of the questers had returned and that Ryan had been killed. The funeral was held right after breakfast and it was Griffin who lit the pyre.

" Holy Hermes." Travis muttered, breaking Jaden from his thoughts.

" What in the name of Olympus just happened?" Connor added.

" I see you two have discovered Jaden's parentage the hard way." Chiron stated from the entrance of the room. " What was it this time, Jaden?"

Jaden looked up at the centaur, his eyes uncharacteristically red and his head pounding from the massive headache that was now forming. It didn't take the older three long to realise that he had been crying. Silently, Chiron handed the boy a tiny square of Ambrosia.

" Ryan." Was all Jaden could choke out after eating the offered food.

" I understand. And I assure you, Jaden, that he is in a better place."

" He'd be in Elysium." Travis added.

" What I want to know is what happened." Connor insisted.

" You saw Ryan's death?" Chiron asked.

" No. I think it was what happened after his death."

With a sigh, the old centaur explained. " What you saw was the past."

" What do you mean?"

" Not only is Jaden the son of Luke Castellan, but he is also the son of Kronos. I don't know how it happened, but somehow the boy has two biological fathers. As a consequence of this, he has power over time. Unfortunately, he has yet to gain complete control over his abilities and certain events cause him to unleash that power."

" By events, do you mean memories?"

" Not only memories but also names, battles, anything really. However he can only produce images of the past."

" So let me get this straight, this kid's mind is like a personal time machine." Travis asked.

" You could say that."

" Wow."

" I must also warn you not to provoke him into a fight. I've been watching him and it seems he can pause time around his opponents and observers to make it look like he has super speed." Chiron added before handing Connor a newly written scroll.

" What's this?" the younger Stoll asked.

" I'm trusting you more than your brother with that. It's my report on Jaden. You two are to take Jaden to the Olympian Counsel today. I fear they are going to pass judgement over him."

Jaden woke up to find himself in the back of someone's car, his head resting against the baby seat next to him. It took him a little while to realised that he had fallen asleep right after Chiron had told Connor and Travis Stoll that they were taking him to Olympus. The sudden remembrance of meeting the legendary Stoll brothers woke him instantly.

" Looks like sleeping beauty's finally awake." The sure sound of an older Connor Stoll came from the front seat of the car.

" I'm not in a dream?" Jaden whispered, almost to himself.

" If you are, then it's a pretty awesome dream." Travis replied from behind the wheel.

" So I really am in a car with the Travis and Connor Stoll?"

" If you know another Travis and Connor Stoll, then you better tell us."

" And where are you taking me?"

" To Olympus." Connor supplied.

" Why don't I like the sound of that?"

" Tell us and we'll all know."

The rest of the drive was silent… if you counted Travis and Connor as the silent type. Well, it was silent for the next ten minutes as Travis and Connor started to tell Jaden everything they knew about how to keep the Ares cabin in check. Jaden, on the other hand, stayed silent the entire trip. If he was worried about getting in trouble with Chiron before, it was nothing to what he felt now on his way to the home of the gods with the most infamous duo in camp history.

Travis ended up having to park his car three blocks away from the Empire State Building, which also meant that they had to walk the rest of the way. Jaden also noticed that both Travis and Connor were either keeping an eye on him or else on anyone they thought needed watching. As with most children of Hermes, Jaden felt rather than saw Connor's hand slip from his shoulder for a few seconds before being passed an apple.

" Got to keep your health up." He said with a smile.

Not a moment later, Travis handed him a bottle of water. " And your fluids."

Jaden, thinking that he was being babied too much, decided to hand the apple to Travis and the water to Connor. Eventually the three of them ended up playing a game with the items; they'd bounce the apple on their heads while passing the bottle of water to each other. The fun ended when Jaden got hungry and ate the apple. By the time he was finished with his snack, the three of them were standing in front of the Empire State Building.

" Well, mustn't keep them waiting." Connor sighed.

" Especially Demeter… and Zeus. If Katie's anything like her mother…" Travis added, letting his sentence hang as both he and his brother had chills run down their spines.

Connor led them into the lobby and over to the front desk. " Six hundredth floor."

" Sorry, sir. No such floor." The guard replied.

" The Counsel is expecting us."

" Really. Appointment?"

" Connor and Travis Stoll with Jaden Castellan from Camp Half-Blood. Chiron sent us with him. His trial is today."

The guard fumbled around his desk for a few minutes before producing a key card to the younger Stoll and looking around. " Insert this in the security slot. Make sure nobody else is in the elevator with you."

" Understood."

It took three rides of the elevator before the three of them were alone. That was when Connor slipped the key card into the security slot and Jaden watched as a new level appeared. Before the boy had a chance to register what was written on the red button, Connor had pressed it and they were once more on the move.
