"Big bro-ther. Can you say that, Mitsuki-chan?" He figured that at this point, saying these words wouldn't prove to be a challenge. It was only a matter of time. However, between him and the rattle, the rattle was definitely winning. Still, he couldn't help but smile at the sight.

His face beamed when he had heard of the big news. The thought of a new addition to the Nase family thrilled him. Being the youngest was nice, but Izumi was-how could he put this? His sister. She was simply that.

She wasn't terrible. (Very much the opposite.) Izumi fulfilled all of the roles. So responsible and punctual and respectful. Even her shadow commanded respect. When she spoke, her words were absolute. Even as a child, he could tell. Hiroomi's teasing never worked with her because her words had settled on her tongue the time he finished. Her voice was gentle but her words were sharp.

He sensed that with Mitsuki, it'd be different. Mitsuki finally decided to entertain her older sibling. As her tiny mouth parted, Hiroomi lowered his head to hear the long awaited words. The magical words.

"Big-" (He held his breath in anticipation.)
"idiot." Different indeed. He exhaled a defeated sigh, disappointed at not hearing a cute utterance of "brother" and yet amused by the conviction that exuded in that word.

Lightly chuckling, he tapped his sister's nose and tried again. "Now, now, Mitsuki. Try again. Say 'onii-chan.'" It was his turn to lead.

His baby sister returned the tap on his nose and stared straight at him declaring, "Idiot." Tired of the conversation, the girl waddled over to a stack of books.

He smiled softly. Well, it was a start. At least having playful arguments with Mitsuki would be an option. Oh, and he couldn't wait to banter with her, to see her future flustered faces. To hear him call out "Onii-chan." To just have fun with his family member.

He wasn't going to be model sibling of the century. (He'll leave that to Izumi.)

Note: Hiroomi waited for Mitsuki to say "onii-chan" but said "oobaka" instead.

Note 2: I've also noticed that this is a bit similar to "Cold." Heh.
