Melanie was surprised to find her friend Catherine looking over her as she came to. Her room was still a mess and her arms hurt for some reason but the light that was streaming from behind her curtain indicated that quite some time had already passed.
"G'moring?" She asked, a bit dazed.
"G'moring." Catherine responded with a smile.
The two girls stared at each other for a while, Melanie feeling extremely awkward, before she decided to break the silence. "Umm . . ." She started. "have you seen me in the last," she checked the clock that hung on her wall partly obscured by a calculous worksheet, "13 hours?"
"Nope." Catherine responded evenly.
Melanie sighed.
"I saw your sister though."
Melanie whipped her head around at near whiplash causing speeds to stare at her smirking friend. "W-what?" Melanie scoffed. "That's such a silly thing to say my sister's in LA. You know that."
Catherine's smirk deepened into borderline menacing. "Then I guess it was you that I had oh so much fun with last night."
Melanie's nervousness evaporated like a drop of water in summer. "Last night?"
Catherine nodded. "I can hardly believe some of the things you made me do."
Melanie grabbed the other girl by her collar and pulled her close. "What did she do?"
Catherine wasn't fazed but she opened her mouth to recount the night's events anyway.
"So, why exactly am I here?" Catherine asked in a hushed whisper.
Sam looked around the unfamiliar campus, searching for anyone who might have been on guard or a student snooping around in the middle of the night, before responding. "I need help finding the gym in this place. It's huge."
Catherine stayed close, trying to sneakily sap some warmth from the other girl. The biting wind seeped through the thin pajamas that she wore.
Sam paid it no mind, opting to watch the horizon for any SPH volleyball players.
Thanks to Melanie being such a responsible young adult, her car was already gassed up and in proper working conditions. If Sam wanted to, she could have just stormed SPH and wreaked havoc on it's campuses, which was what she was tempted to do, but if there was one thing that Sam Puckett never did, it was charge into enemy territory without at least cursory knowledge of the place.
So, doing the most logical thing that she could think of, she abducted Catherine, plucking her from her room like a freaky creeper and dragged her all the way to SPH campus.
"This is illegal." Catherine whisper-yelled.
"Yeah, yeah, just tell them I abducted you or something. You won't get in trouble."
"Wouldn't that get Melanie in trouble?"
"Not if they find her tied up to her swivel chair surrounded by piles of fan art that would take a minimum of at least 6 hours to draw."
Catherine looked at Sam with a raised brow.
"Don't look at me that way. These guys have it coming to them."
Catherine nodded. "I know but I didn't think you were the type to care."
"I don't."
The denial caused Catherine's lip to turn up a bit. "Alright."
Sam rolled her eyes. "Just tell me where the gym is."
Catherine shivered and pointed straight ahead. "It's right up there."
Sam nodded. "Cool. See ya later."
"Whoa, whoa, what do you mean 'see you later?'" Catherine asked.
"I'm saying that you should go back to your little dorm and go night night. Forget this night ever happened." Sam explained slowly, like she was talking to one of the small kids she babysat. "And take these keys. I don't want Melanie to be incriminated."
Catherine tilted her head. "What are you gonna do?"
"And the next thing I heard was the game was canceled on account of a 'strange fire.'" Catherine explained.
Melanie had calmed down but a frown was creasing her brow. "A fun night?" She finally said after a long while. "You couldn't have described that in any other way?"
The brunette giggled. "Maybe I should have called it interesting."
The blonde sighed. "Well, where is she now?"
A shrug. "Good question. I think she was on her way back to LA."
Melanie thought about that answer for a bit before she smiled. "She probably has to take care of her Cat."
"I didn't take her for a cat person."
"She's not but I think it's sweet that she's taking care of her anyway."
"Are we talking about an animal?"
"Technically speaking."
"You two are the weirdest twins."
Melanie smiled. "We've been told."
Catherine smiled back, inching closer until she was only a few centimeters away from Melanie's face. "You know, I haven't seen you in almost 17 hours?" She began to close the distance as Melanie closed her eyes.
Catharine gave Melanie a slow tender kiss, moving slowly and just feeling the softness of the other's lips.
Melanie allowed it, letting the other progress the make out session along before her eyes snapped open.
"Crap! Finals! Fanime!" She shoved Catherine in the face before bouncing over to her desk and frantically began studying.
"I guess I'll just leave you to that then?" Catherine asked, to which, Melanie had no answer. "You are so lucky I love you." She stated quietly, closing the door behind her.
Did I rush this ending. Yes, am I satisfied with it. Yes.
Why? Because I didn't know I was actually going to finish it at all.
