Wow, it's been waaaaaaay to long since I've updated this story. Guess I've been a little busy.
Loud howls and shrieks of shock and terror reverberated all around as the company rolled, skidded and tumbled downward along the slick passage way that led them deeper into the mountain. Occasionally there would be a collision of bodies, resulting in more grunts and cries. Farandir spat and spluttered as he received a bunch of dwarf hair in the face. By the slight streaks of grey in the dark locks he guessed it to be Thorin.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Thorin growled at him, grunting as they hit a particularly bumpy spot.
"Choking, obviously." Farandir called over the noise.
"With Kili!" Thorin roared in such a way that made all the others pause in their screaming for a moment before continuing.
Farandir paled ever so slightly.
"Thorin, I don't think now is the right time to-" he began but was cut off as their trip down the rabbit hole came to an end.
The passageway ended abruptly over a spiked basket like structure, catching the falling bodies in a large heap. Bombur had come down last and was effectively pinning the entire group beneath his weight. The company groaned in pain and discomfort as they tried untangling themselves but before they could manage anything there was a sudden loud shrieking not to far away. Farandir twisted his head to look behind him and cursed as he saw the horde of goblins rushing to get at them.
In seconds the disgusting little creatures were all over them, pulling them this way and that, shoving them forward in a disorderly line. The moment he was free from beneath the pile of dwarves Farandir threw up his arms and started to speak rapidly, preparing to use his magic. The goblins shrieked and growled but they all took a step back from the young mage, sensing that dander was looming. Farandir was so absorbed by his chanting that he failed to notice the tiny disfigured goblin that hung from a set of ropes suspended from the ceiling on some sort of pulley system that appeared behind him. Before anyone could warn him the goblin swung a stout club and struck the mage at the base of his skull.
Kili cried out as Farandir's eyes rolled back in their sockets and he crumpled to the ground.
The goblins shrieked in delight before surging forward to grab the mage by his arms and dragging him along in the wake of the others. KIli struggled fiercely to break free and help his friend but the goblins kept a firm grip on him. In the chaos and panic no one, except Nori, seemed to notice that Bilbo had slipped away.
"And who would be so bold as to come armed into my Kingdom? Spies? Thieves? Assassins?!" the grotesque figure that was the Goblin King called. Everyone flinched as he stumbled forward on his stumpy legs, flailing his staff through the air.
"Dwarves, your Malevolence." One of the goblins chipped in.
"Dwarves!?" the king exclaimed.
"Found them on the front porch." The goblin continued.
"Well, don't just stand there!" the repulsive giant shrieked, "Search them!"
There was a jostling and a some struggling as the dwarves were pawed at, personal items wrenched from them by the grabby hands of the goblins.
"Every crack! Every crevice!" the king cried as they went along.
When the goblins seemed satisfied that they had gotten from the dwarves all that they could the king lurched forward and spoke again.
"What are you doing in these parts? Speak!" he commanded, the growth under his chin swinging too and fro.
The dwarves stood silent. The only movement was that of Kili as he tried to twist himself around so that he could see what had become of Farandir. From what he could see the mage was still unconscious on the ground, goblins poking and prodding him. One drew back his foot and kicked the mage square in the chest. Kili could swear he heard a soft crack. He groaned and tried anew to break free from the hands that held him but there were too many. Kili was vaguely aware of the conversation between the goblin king and Thorin, mentions of Erebor and the Pale Orc, but he was too concerned for Farandir to care.
"What about this one?" one of the goblins asked the king.
Kili noted that it was the one who had kicked Farandir earlier. The goblin king lumbered closer to get a better look.
"A human?" he asked.
The goblin shook his head and yanked Farandir's head to one side, revealing his pointed ear.
"My my! An elf!" The king cried, "Haven't had one of those in ages! Put him aside from the others! I have something special in mind for him." The king ordered, eliciting a string of mischievous cackles.
Kili surged forward as the goblins began dragging Farandir away but he still couldn't break free. Some of the others tried to help as well but the were also tightly restrained.
A sudden loud cheering drew Kili's attention and he looked over to see the grotesque figure of the goblin king sway and wobble as he began to do a little dance and sing a 'merry' tune detailing the ways in which the dwarves were going to suffer. Nobody noticed the goblin pawing the pile of weapons that they had taken from Thorin's company. As he grasped the sword that Thorin had found in the troll lair he screeched and flung the blade away from himself. The loud clattering of steel drew the eyes of everyone.
"I know that sword!" the king bellowed, stumbling back to get as much distance between it and him. "It is the Goblin Cleaver!" he cried and all hell broke loose.
In a sudden frenzy the goblins turned on the dwarves and began attacking, kicking, biting and clawing. Those dragging Farandir saw the commotion and abandoned their prisoner to join in. Kili saw this and began making his way through the mass of goblins, defending against their attacks as he moved to reach the downed mage. Just as he spun around to deflect another incoming blow a brilliant white light exploded across his vision. Goblins flew through the air as they were blasted away by some unseen force. There was a loud ringing in Kili's ear making him dizzy. As the ringing faded he saw that Gandalf had caused the explosion.
The aged wizard stood tall amidst the chaos, a fierce look in his eyes.
"Take up arms!" he cried, "Fight!"
As one the dwarves grasped their stolen weapons and retaliated while the goblins were still dazed by Gandalf's spell.
"Gandalf!" Kili called over the commotion' "Gandalf! Farandir is hurt!"
Gandalf turned from the battle and sped towards the fallen mage, reaching him just as Kili did.
"What happened?" the wizard demanded, kneeling next to his apprentice and placing his hands on either side of Farandir's face.
"He was struck at the back of his head, collapsed instantly. Also, I think he mat have some cracked ribs. The goblins were kicking him." Kili replied, worry etched on his face.
Gandalf winced before muttering a few words in an unknown language. Farandir's eyes flew open, darting about wildly. He sat up in a rush, coughing up blood as he did so.
"Easy lad." Gandalf said and put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"What-" Farandir began but Gandalf hushed him.
Kili defended as one of the goblins broke off from the fight to attack them while Gandalf helped Farandir to stand. He gasped and clutched at his side.
"There is no time to heal your broken bones right now. All I can do for the moment is try to quell the pain somewhat until we reach safety." Gandalf said before muttering under his breath again.
Farandir relaxed slightly as some of the pain left him.
"That's better." He breathed and straightened. "Shall we get out of here now?"
Gandalf gave his shoulder a small squeeze before rushing off to assist Thorin and the others.
"I'm glad you're still breathing." Kili called over his shoulder as he fended off another attacker, a small smile on his lips.
"If we don't get out of here soon that might not be the case."
Kili strode forward and gasped Farandir's hand.
"Let's get moving then."
Ok so I've seen the new movie (twice) and it's freakin amazing, but in terms of this fic there are a few problems...
SPOILERS AHEAD! IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN DESOLATION OF SMAUG DO NOT CONTINUE!
While I really like the budding romance between Kili and Tauriel in the new movie, it poses a bit of an obstacle for Farandir. I would like peoples opinions on this please. Do I kill Farandir and Kili's affair or just re write Tauriel's role in the plot? If I don't really get an answer to this I'm not really sure how the fic will continue so please comment! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanx for reading :)
