Shiho Hahnenfuss stalked through the flames on the plain. A fierce firefight between mobile suits had taken place here, but checks with OMNI bases throughout the country had found that active units were not within the area.
Things were getting weird in the front lines. OMNI patrols destroyed so quickly in isolated locations that there wasn't time for the men to radio for help, the attacks on Holloman Air Base and Guam Naval Base, and now Blue Cosmos troops attacked by mysterious forces that just seemed to vanish into thin air.
The body parts of Dagger Ls and Windams were strewn about all over the place. No survivors. A villager living nearby had seen the Blue Cosmos forces engage strange block-like mobile suits. The Blue Cosmos mobile suits were too slow for the unknown hovering mobile suits. There was no record of any such OMNI mobile suit and there were no tracks to follow. Whoever they were, they were long gone.
The sound of crunched earth caught her attention and she turned around to face Lt Johann and Lt Klaus.
Lt J:" anything?"
Shiho shook her head.
Lt K:" Then let's go. We're wasting time here and we're due to greet Chairwoman Clyne in a few hours."
The trio turned around and headed back to their mobile suits. Shiho bit her lip as she thought about what Yzak had told her about the upcoming visit by Chairwoman Clyne. It seemed her parents had managed to pull a few strings to come along to the base, but Shiho was not ready to see the just yet. No matter how hard she tried to forgive them, memories of Maddox came to her mind. Once in her sleep, she had dreamed that she was pushing him on the swings like she used to do.
Five years since that fateful argument, and now they would meet again.

Orion
Asteroid fortress
Asteroid fortress Orion was a critical part of the defence of earth. Any force wishing to invade earth would have to deal with Orion in order to secure its rear lest they were caught on two fronts should they have to retreat towards it.
As such, it was often referred to as the gateway to earth and it was a mighty redoubt indeed, three times as formidable as Yakin Boaz. Its surface bristled with defensive turrets capable of unleashing a punishing salvo against any foolhardy foe daring enough to attack it. With the reduction in arms, the fortress more than made up for the lack of ships and mobile suits with lots of firepower.
Smaller asteroids at the extremities of the Orion's radars acted as defensive satellites or outposts that would raise the alarm if attacked. The Zeon battleplan had taken the presence of space redoubts into account and information was sent back to earth for high command to adjust the schedule of the invasion.
There was no escaping the battle at Orion, the fortress had to be taken before any further progress to earth could be made. Mobile suits and mobile armour launched from their hangars, all heading for one point... defense satellite 6.

Yzak stood at attention alongside Shiho as the two watched the transport craft land, whipping up a wave of wind that blew through their hair. Yzak glanced over at Shiho, trying to gauge her reaction to the arrival of the Chairwoman...and her parents. Her face was set in stone, no doubt still angry at them.
The transport ramp hit the ground and Chairwoman Clyne along with her dignitaries stepped out. BG Heinrich stepped forward with his executive officer to greet the Chairwoman.
BG H:" Chairwoman Clyne. Welcome to Germany. I am BG Heinrich, the base commandant and this is my executive officer, Major Hermann.
Lacus Clyne:" A pleasure to meet you commanders. The European frontier owes much to you and your men."
Lacus Clyne followed BG Heinrich across the tarmac, where over a hundred men raised their arms in salute. Shiho locked eyes with her parents for a brief moment, giving them a cold and hard stare.
As soon as Lacus Clyne entered the headquarters, the assembled men and women fell out.
Y:" Shiho. Be nice. They're still your parents."
Shiho didn't answer as the two entered the building.

Defense Satellite 6
Orion asteroid fortress
Space frontier
The men of the defense satellite 6 lead boring lives, passing shift after shift doing the same things day in day out like staring at a radar screen or repairing equipment. Life is a complete bore in this place. Nothing ever happens in this place, ever. Then the radar screams contacts on the screen, a giant mass moving towards Defense Satellite 6.
Shocked but not believing that a giant armada was right in front of them, the radar operators ran diagnostic checks... to find nothing wrong with their instruments. Magnified views of the unknown mass appears on a large screen, revealing an armada of ships and mobile suits heading straight for them.
The CIC crew sit at their stations, stunned at thee sheer size of the fleet. There is no way Defense Satellite 6 or even fortress Orion as a whole will hold them back. There are too many. Then, their training kicks in and the alert is raised. Men scramble to their battle stations in a desperate show of defiance all know is futile.
As soon as the mobile suits launch from the base hangars and take up defensive formations, the Zeon mobile suits are on them. Beam rifles and defensive batteries light up the area, unable to stop the oncoming armageddon.
A beam shot from a Marasai detonates the reactor of a Windam that rips it apart. A Zaku 2 F2 blasts a Dagger L to bits with its machine gun while a Charles Rochester Gelgoog destroys another with its beam rifle. The reflexes and instincts of the Zeon pilots are preternatural, escaping and dealing death unlike any human being.
Windams and Dagger Ls find themselves swarmed by mobile suits and even Moebius mobile armour. Bigros destroy huge swathes of turrets with their beam cannons while Geara Dogas and Geara Zulus spam beam bullets at targets. GMs lay down supressive beam fire that tear mobile suits apart and Jegans along with Javelins dart in and out of enemy formations.
In Defense Satellite 6's CIC, the radio operator continues to scream for help, until a passing Zaku 2 destroys the view port with its machine gun, venting the atmosphere and crew within into space.
Orion Prime
Orion asteroid fortress
Space frontier
On the main asteroid, all is chaos as men rush to their stations, rallying from the shock of the sudden assault. Defence formations are hastily set up, guns are crewed, kill zones are setup and fallback points identified with the rapidity of professional military training. But everyone knows one thing that put their efforts to shame. Its not going to be enough. The enemy fleet is too large and is closing in too fast.
The enemy is not even stopping to offer pitched battle against the defence satellites ringing Orion Prime. The fleet simply cruises past them at speed, laying them to waste with their guns or letting their mobile suits, mobile armour and fighters swarm and deal with them as they pass by with other mobile weapon escorts not engaged.
The enemy advance is implacable, one defence satellite after another falling in short order. Soon they will reach the last bastion of the Orion defence forces, Orion Prime.
Communications officers confirm their status with the moon base, high command unbelieving that they are under attack. The call for aid is futile and the men know it. They will die before the relief force comes. All that is left is for them is to delay the enemy long enough for high command to mobilize its fleet to defend earth.
At last, the enemy fleet charges past the burning hulls of the last defence satellites. The defence forces brace themselves for the coming fight, and then the enemy is upon them. The fight is fierce as OMNI forces fight for their lives against the relentless forces of the fleet.
Mobile suits engage their counterparts while fighters and mobile armours bash through the gaps and attack Orion Prime itself, slagging defence batteries and hangars.
Half an hour later and by the time which a third of the fleet has passed through, space fortress Orion is no more. The Zeon fleet continues its inexorable course, towards a large blue planet ahead of them.
After a long journey through space and battling OMNI's space bastion forces, the Zeon fleet is in sight of their objective and will be within striking distance in under two hours as they push their engines hard. Zeon has breached the gates to earth.

Headquarters building
OMNI military base
Rhineland
Yzak sat opposite to Chairwoman Clyne as BG Heinrich briefed her on progress along the German front.
As soon as he had finished, Yzak was asked to give his report on the recent mysterious events that had occurred on the front, such as the destruction of a Blue Cosmos cell by unknown military forces.
LC:" If there are other forces at work, we must discover who they are and what are their intentions."
Y:" Agreed."
Somewhere else in the building, Shiho Hahnenfuss sat across from her parents, her face as angry as it had been the day she had quarrelled with them five years ago. Her parents fidgeted in their seats, unsure of how to start a conversation.
S d :" So... Shiho... how have you been. Your mother and I haven't heard from you in years."
S:" I'm fine... there's a reason why I didn't contact you."
S m:" Shiho..."
S:" What? Did you think that I would forgive you just because you came waltzing in after Chairwoman Clyne?"
S m:" Shiho please... yes Maddox's death was our fault, we admit. That's why we're here. To make amends. We don't want to lose you too."
S:" Don't talk like you care..."
"Shiho... you promised", came a rough voice from the door.
Shiho and her parents turned to find Yzak standing at the door, arms folded across his chest.
S:" This has nothing to do with you Yzak."
Y:" Its been five years Shiho. Are you going to throw away the only family you have left?"
Shiho just stared at him and Yzak sighed. Shiho was stubborn as hell. He crossed over to her side and kissed her cheek, much to the surprise of Shiho and herself.
S m:" You two are dating?"
Y:" Yes ma'am. I'm Yzak Joule, a fellow commander of Shiho's"
Shiho's parents were too stunned to answer. Their daughter was dating THE Yzak Joule. But before either of them could say a word, the unmistakable impact of an explosion rocked the building. Then, the sirens began to wail.
