(Marissa's POV)
Tyler's 9th birthday party was in full swing by the time two o'clock hit. Steve and Danny were entertaining the bark yard full of kids along with Chin and Kono. I finally got to sit down and watch the kids and my husband splash in the water.
When I looked at my husband's face I could instantly see the wheels in his head turning. He was trying to make this all about Ty but I knew he wanted to go to Japan and look for Joe. It was going to eat him up inside until he did something about it.
My vision was turned away from the water when I noticed my father sit himself in the seat next to me.
"Can't believe how old he is getting" He said staring at the kids.
"What are you doing here?" I asked not casting a look in his way.
"I wouldn't forget my grandson's birthday and I came to apologize." He said solemnly.
"It's a little too late for that don't you think? You wanted me to choose and I did. I chose my family because it was the right thing to do. I am never going to be how you wanted me to be." I replied.
"I didn't want you to turn your back on your mother. What she did was wrong but she was still your mother. I never wanted you to be anything but happy and now I am starting to see how truly happy you really are. I don't want to lose you or my grandchildren because (Kate) you are all I have left." He answered pulling my face to look him in the eye.
For once I actually saw the sincerity in what he said. My eyes began to water. Stupid pregnancy hormones
"This is not going to be easy but I want to make this work, dad." I replied shakily.
"I do too" he replied before heading to towards Ty.
Steve came up a few minutes later towel drying his hair.
"Everything alright?" he asked noticing the tears.
"I am fine. Just enjoying our kid's party." I replied.
"Marissa I want to talk to you about something" Steve said his tone becoming serious.
"I know what you are going to say. Go and find Joe and get your answers. But do me a favor wait till tomorrow. Don't ruin his birthday by leaving." I replied.
"There is a flight that leaves tomorrow night" he answered checking my face for any disapproval.
"Good take it. But for now this is about our kids." I said leaning to kiss him.
"Mom, Grandpa showed up" Ty yelled breaking Steve and I apart.
"I know buddy." I replied with smile.
"Dad, do you know why Grandpa Joe didn't show up?" Ty asked casting a curious glance in his father's direction.
"He is on a very important job. I know he is upset that he missed today" Steve replied.
"If he calls can I talk to him please" Ty asked.
"Of course. Get everyone back to the table let's eat some cake." Steve replied before taking off to get the cake.
Lily stood on Steve's legs clapping excitedly as we all gathered around the table to sing Happy Birthday to Ty.
Tyler face was of peer enjoyment as His friends from school along with the team and of course Grace sang to him. After cake and presents the party started to dwindle down and Ty went to show his grandfather all his new stuff in his room. Lily was put down for bed giving the adults time to relax.
The next afternoon Steve was packing his bag. I was going to drop him off at the airport but he had to run a few errands first. He had decided it was best to leave Danny a letter instead of telling him in person. He was not going to be talked out of this.
Ty and Lily we spending the night at my father's house leaving me alone in our house. Steve had explained to Ty that he had to help Grandpa Joe and that when he returned hopefully he would be with him. Ty was reluctant at first but he gave in and kissed his father before leaving with my dad. He kissed and tickled Lily before handing her over to my father.
The car ride to the airport was short and silent.
"Hey I won't be gone long. I just need a few days. Joe knows something about Shelburne." Steve stated.
"I know why you are doing this. But if you don't find what you are looking for I want you to promise me you will come straight home. "I whispered hugging him as tight as I could with the six month baby bump I had.
"I will" he replied kissing my temple and heading in the airport.
Monday morning Danny was livid when he read the letter Steve had left for him.
"You seriously just let him go?" Danny asked frustrated with his partner.
"Even if I told him not to he was going to do it anyways." I fired back.
"He can't wait for anything" Danny grumbled stomping out the glass doors.
"What's his problem?" Chin asked.
"He is pissed because Steve took off on another mission to find Joe and he was told about it in a letter" I answered.
"Do you know where he is?" Chin asked.
"He is following a lead on Joe in Japan." I replied.
He nodded in understandment and then left to his office.
I let out a sigh this was only getting more complicated.
(Steve's POV)
Sitting in the back of a police van in Osaka, Japan I was geared up and was giving the other officers the run down on how Wo Fat operates. I was finally going to be able to get rid of him.
Wo Fat was sitting in his hotel room when we made our move. He sat in a tailored suit and drinking Saki.
"I have been expecting you McGarrett" he said smugly.
One of the officers came in and told me to check out the bathroom. There was blood covering everything from the celling down to the floor.
"Who did you kill you son of a bitch. Was that Shelburne?" I demanded getting into Wo Fat's face.
He smiled smugly again before being escorted out of the room. The CSU was going over everything left in the room and analyzing the remains in the bathroom. I hopefully got a key to some information when a phone was recovered.
I decided now would be a good time to check in with Danny.
"Long time partner" I said.
"What the hell is the matter with you? Where the hell have you been? " Danny rambled.
"I have been looking for Joe and Shelburne. Didn't you get my letter it explained" I shot back.
"Nope you didn't explain anything. You just left me a letter and took off." Danny shouted.
"Okay I didn't take off. You are making it sound like I was on the run. Why are you angry?" I fired back
"Look I am concerned. You take off and leave your wife and kids in my care. What did you find?" Danny said calming down
"I think I found Shelburne." I replied.
"You think you did? You either did or you didn't." Danny fired back.
"Look I am just calling and letting you know I am in Osaka and I am taking Wo Fat into custody" I answered.
"Way to catch a lead" Danny praised.
"Look gather up Chin and the girls." I ordered.
"Hey are you alright boss?" I heard Kono ask.
"I am fine. I was in japan when I heard some chatter about Wo Fat. I teamed up with Interpol and we caught him. But he was waiting for us." I said.
"That sounds way too easy" Chin replied.
"Yeah way to easy. Look I need you to run a number for me." I said reading off the digits for Kono.
"We got a hit buddy. Just watch your six" Danny said.
"Steve be careful please" I heard Marissa say before I hung up.
I was loading up Wo Fat on a plane when Danny gave me a call with some new information. A Woman named Anna Davis was the person taking the calls from Wo Fat and she was a government official.
I stared out the window as we flew over the ocean and countries when I noticed that the landing gear was being opened.
"Hey why are we landing we are still 50 miles out of Honolulu." I asked the co-pilot.
"Please take your seat commander" he replied.
"No I want to know what the hell is going on. Why are you landing this plane" I questioned.
The officers from Osaka noticed something going on and jumped to my aid. Within moments the plane crashed.
Wo Fat attacked me as soon as I stepped out of the plane. He was more trained in hand to hand combat than I was but when I got the upper hand I knocked him out.
I heard a helicopter fly over us but by the looks of it. It didn't seem like they were here to rescue us. I geared up again and led Wo Fat into the forest.
"You don't talk much do you? You sure do talk when Shelburne is involved." I asked as he headed deeper into the forest.
"Shelburne killed my father" He replied.
"Oh well you sanctioned my father's execution so I know exactly how you feel" I shot back.
"Why don't you kill me" Wo Fat sneered.
I stared at the man until my attention was directed to the helicopter landing. Wo fat and I took refuge behind an old beaten up truck.
The men were dressed in suits and heavily armed. When I brought Wo Fat out in the open with my gun to his head. They fired at both of us.
"What was that?" I demanded when we both took cover again.
"Those men are Yakuza. And they are not here to save me they are here to kill me" He answered.
"You could have told me the part where they wanted you dead a little bit earlier." I stated and I went through my bag of weapons.
"You wouldn't believe me" Wo Fat defended.
"Yeah well I do now" I answered.
"What did you do to piss off the Yakuza anyway?" I asked.
"I killed Hiro Noshimuri" He answered plainly.
I looked at him in shock.
"Well that will do it" I stated.
"We are out gunned 7 to 2. This makes is 7 to 1." Wo Fat argued gesturing towards his hand cuffed hand.
We made our way towards the helicopter when gun fire was heard. Taking down the Yakuza men went easy. Wo Fat tried to get the drop on be but I kicked him in the head. Hooking Wo Fat to a seat in the helicopter I fired it up and made my way back to Honolulu.
Landing in a small air strip in Honolulu I was uncuffing Wo Fat when 3 black SUVs broke through the gates.
Adam Noshimuri and his men surrounded us with weapons.
"Adam what are you doing here?" I asked.
"Next time you steal one of my helicopters you should disable the gps." Adam stated pulling his gun out and pointing it at Wo Fat.
"Look I know what he did but this is not the way." I said to the younger man. Police sirens were getting closer and I knew back up was on its way.
"This isn't your fight McGarrett. I don't want to hurt you. "Adam replied on the verge of tears.
Danny, Chin and Kono got out and told everyone to drop their weapons. Adam's attention was shifted from Wo Fat to his lawyer when he heard him call him a coward. His lawyer admitted he was the one who took care of Anna Davis in order to prevent her from helping Wo Fat disappear.
Kono was the one to finally convince Adam to drop his weapon when his lawyer tried to take him out Kono took him down.
"Book 'em Danno" I said giving Danny's shoulder a squeeze.
I hugged the team and waited as HPD took off with Wo Fat in custody before I decided it was time to head home. I made one last stop to the prison to check on Wo Fat.
"You should take a good look around you are going to die here" I said once he was standing in his cell.
"Perhaps or maybe not" he said his stone like features not giving anything away.
Danny dropped me off and wished me good luck. All the lights were off when I got home. Marissa and the kids were sleeping soundly in our bed.
"Daddy?" Ty whispered shooting up in bed.
"Hey hey it's me. Shh we don't want to wake them up." I replied pulling my son into my grasp and ignoring the pain in my body as I did so.
"I missed you" Ty said sleepily.
"I missed you too" I said kissing his head.
Finally getting him to go back to sleep I quickly showered and climbed into bed pulling Lily to lay on my chest.
I laid there in silence going over what Wo Fat said. I had to keep a watchful eye out for him because just because he was behind bars doesn't mean I was going to be able to breathe any easier.
