(Steve's POV)
The following two weeks after Liam's birth were hectic. The FBI were constantly grilling Marissa and I about the events that occurred in our house. Manipulating the questions to see if Marissa and I would change our stories but we both told them the same thing over and over and finally the case of Lori Weston was shut.
Today I would be taking Marissa and Liam home. Ty and Lily had decorated the living room with banners and pictures for their mother and new little brother with the help of Chin and Kono. Danny and Grace were going to stop by later in the day.
Liam was buckled in his car seat asleep when I got to the hospital as Marissa struggled to put on button down over her bad shoulder.
"Hey let me help you" I said grabbing the shirt.
"Thanks" she whispered turning to face me.
"The kids are excited" I said easing her bad shoulder through the hole of her shirt. She grimaced.
"I can't wait to get home. I miss our bed and our kids." She said with a small smile.
"They miss you too." I replied pulling her closer and kissing her.
"Come on I want to get home" Marissa said pulling back and grabbing her bags.
Marissa quickly signed the release papers and we were finally on our way home.
Pulling into our drive way Marissa seemed unease and I knew it had to deal with what happened that day.
I was already pulling Liam out of the back seat when I noticed Marissa hadn't gotten out of the car yet. I headed towards the house handing Liam to Danny.
"Babe are you going to come inside?" I asked standing next to her side.
"I just need a minute" she whispered with tears threatening to fall.
"Hey everything is going to be okay. I am right here." I said squatting down so I was eye level.
She wiped her face clean of the fallen tears and unbuckled her seatbelt. Grabbing her hand I closed the car door and we both headed inside.
Our team along with Kathy and Marissa's father were all in the living room passing around our new son. Lily came running towards Marissa when we entered the room. Marissa scooped her up on her good side and kissed our daughters' cheeks. Tyler came and wrapped his arms around him mother and sister.
"He is gorgeous" Kathy said holding Liam in her arms.
"Thank you" Marissa said setting Lily down and pulling Ty in for a proper hug.
The Women were on the Lanai watching the older kids play in the sand and water as Liam slept in his basinet.
"Not a bad looking kid, Buddy" Danny said smacking me on my back.
"Have to agree with him, brah." Chin added.
"Thanks guys." I replied with smile.
"I got that stuff collected from Lori's hide out and I wanted to give it to you" Danny stated.
"Where is it?" I asked casting a glance at Marissa.
"The FBI finally released your stuff this morning and came by to drop it off at Headquarters." Danny said leading Chin and I to his car.
"Yeah well the FBI sure took their sweet ass time didn't they?" I answered. I was pissed off Marissa and I were the victims and the FBI treated us like we were the suspects.
"Lori had video surveillance in your office. I had CSU do a sweep of the house too but they didn't find anything here." Chin stated.
"Do me a favor and don't tell Marissa." I said looking at Chin. He nodded in agreement.
"How is she doing?" Danny asked popping his trunk.
"She is scared but she is trying to put of a brave face for the kids and for me." I answered looking into the box of items.
I started to pull out items from the box. I found some of my Navy t-shirts Marissa would wear to bed along with my dog tags. There was a pile of surveillance pictures and mine and Marissa's wedding album.
"The wedding album is the worst" Chin spoke up as I opened it. Marissa's face had been removed and placed with Lori's. Destroying the photos throughout the book and causing my anger to spike up.
"I have a digital copy of all of these" I said slamming it closed.
"I have the most important item" Danny said pulling out a little baggy from his shirt pocket.
It was Marissa's wedding ring.
"Thanks buddy" I said taking the bag from him.
"No problem. I took it to get cleaned" Danny replied.
I gathered the box and headed inside placing it in the office.
(Marissa's POV)
My father and Kathy left after reassuring me they would be by to check up on me and the kids tomorrow. Not long after Chin, Kono along with Danny and Grace left to.
Lily had clutched on to me the whole night not wanting to be more than a few feet away. She resisted being put to bed but finally after lying with her for over an hour she fell asleep with her favorite stuffed monkey.
Tyler had been quite all night which wasn't like him. Like his sister he wouldn't be far away from me. It made me wonder what Steve had told the kids what happened that day two weeks ago.
Tyler was sprawled out and fast asleep when I went to check on him in his room. Kissing his head and turning off the light I went to my bedroom.
Steve had brought up the bassinet and Liam was sleeping soundly. It still so hard to grasp how well he was doing for being born six weeks early but then again he was Steven McGarrett's son and nothing could take down a McGarrett.
I was laying down when Steve came up from down stairs. After changing his clothes he climbed into bed and pulled me towards him.
"How are you feeling?" He whispered.
"Tired and happy to be home" I replied.
"I am happy you are both home" he answered kissing the side of my head.
"When do you go back to the work?" I asked slightly panicking on the inside.
"Tomorrow. I wish I had a few more days to help out." Steve said.
"I will be fine. Plus my Kathy said she would stop by." I replied trying to ease him.
"I have something for you" he said turning to grab something from his night stand.
I noticed it right away it was my wedding ring. But seeing it again didn't bring happy thoughts it reminded me that Lori had been shot in our house.
"It's fine if you can't wear it for a while" He said holding out the ring towards me.
"Steve, I want to wear it" I answered giving him a weak smile as he slid the ring onto my finger.
After a few minutes of silence Steve shut off the light and we both went to bed.
(Steve's POV)
Marissa and I got a few hours of sleep in between Liam's feedings and diaper changes. She looked exhausted as she cooked breakfast.
Kissing her cheek I helped finish breakfast before taking Ty to school.
I wasn't expecting to see Joe White walking into my office this morning. After not hearing from him in a few weeks I wasn't sure when he would resurface.
"Should have told me you were coming Joe" I said staring at the man who has been lying to me.
"I couldn't risk anyone knowing I was on the island. Had to see for myself" He answered.
"See for yourself? How did you know?" I asked.
"When taking down an international criminal word gets around. Now we can discuss what has been keeping you up at night." Joe stated.
"What the fact you lied to me about Shelburne?" I asked raising my voice slightly
"I know you are hurt son but I did that to protect you and your family" Joe said defending his actions.
"Joe, I am done dancing with you. I will find Shelburne on my own. But right now I need to take care of my family." I replied pulling my chair out and sitting down.
"You were looking in the wrong area" Joe stated taking a seat as well.
"How did you know I was in Japan? I made sure word didn't get around I was there." I demanded.
"I knew you would go looking for Shelburne on your own. I trained you, Steve" Joe shot back.
"So now you are going to take me to Shelburne?" I asked incredulously.
"That's why I am here" Joe said standing up.
Before I had time to answer my phone went off. Captain Fryer's body was found in an empty alley.
Ordering Joe to come with me we headed to the crime scene.
Chin was the first person I saw when we arrived.
"Chin what do you got?" I asked as we headed towards the body.
"Not really sure. Details are still coming in. What I do know is that Fryer called dispatch about a DOA he was responding to." Chin went over as we moved closer to the crime scene.
"He was sent out here?" I asked.
"Apparently so. When he got on scene he asked where patrol was when a unit arrived he was already gone. "Chin replied.
"I need you to have HPD block off the area. Someone could have seen something." I ordered.
Chin nodded his head before taking off.
Max was leaning over Fryer's body when Joe and I finally walked up to the crime scene along with Danny nearby.
We went over the scenario of how Fryer was lured into the alley and how our suspect wasn't a trained killer.
No one seemed to notice Max taking off following a trail of blood until a shot was fired.
Max fell to the floor and Danny and I chased the suspect down. The suspect had taken a police car and was now speeding away.
Joe was left to take care of Max as Danny and I along with HPD lead a high speed chase following the suspect. The suspect was heading straight for HPD.
Running into HPD I jumped on top of a desk and notified the officers there was a suspect on the loose. Danny found a location and we all headed down towards the basement.
The team met in the basement after it was cleared out.
"He is still here" I said.
"What in a police precinct? Kono asked.
"I want to put this idoit on worlds dumbest criminals." Danny added.
"You know he could be a cop" Chin stated.
"That would explain how he knew where he was going" Kono replied.
Joe called with an update the suspect we were looking for was a woman not a man.
"Brown hair early thirties" Joe said over the speaker phone.
I took off in the direction of where I saw a woman earlier clutching her side. She was the killer.
Checking an empty back room that the door was opened we noticed a leak. Not giving a second thought we all ran out of the building barely making it past the front steps when HPD went up into flames.
I was talking to sketch artist when Danny came up behind me.
"How is Chin?" I asked.
"He has a bump on his head and a few broken ribs. EMT's are taking him to the hospital now." Danny recited.
"What about the shooter?" I asked taking a look at the damage.
"Nothing so far. The rescue team is still looking. Hopefully she is trapped in there and preferably in a lot of pain." Danny replied.
"No way, Danny, she made it out. She knew exactly what she was doing. This explosion was just a diversion." I answered.
Danny and I were driving down the highway when his phone went off.
"This is an important private call" he said staring at the screen of his phone.
"What do you want me to do? Cover my ears and drive with my knees? Or better yet I can just stick my head out the window." I fired back.
I casted a glance at my partner as he talked to whoever was on the phone. Something was going on and he was going to tell me.
"Don't give me that Navy SEAL death stare. What are you going to water board me until I answer you?" Danny grumbled.
"No you should tell me because we are friends and um I am concerned" I defended.
After arguing more about sharing information with each other Danny confessed that Rachel wanted to move Grace off the island.
Chin and kono were waiting for us back at HQ with some information on our suspect. They were running her face through facial recognition. We had a name Hillary Chaver but we weren't expecting to find out that she was supposed to be dead.
We did more digging and found out that Fryer along with Frank Delano worked the case of our suspects so called death.
Danny and I decided to pay Delano a visit at Hawaii Correctional. Delano easily went over the case he and Fryer were working on that involved our suspect but his reaction to her picture made me think he knew something else.
Heading back towards HQ Danny and I called Chin and Kono with an update. Max was awake and said our suspect had been shot and she would be seeking medical help. After narrowing down the places she would go Danny and I changed direction and headed towards the animal hospital.
The team and I geared up outside the animal hospital where Hillary was hiding out in. We made our way in taking heavy fire. Hillary had managed to get to shots into the back of my vest winding me before I finally took matters into my own hands and end this. I fired several shots into her chest killing her instantly.
Joe was in my office again with an update on Max. Max was going to be fine the hospital wanted to keep him for a few days and he should make a full recovery.
"I gotta say I really thought you would just disappear without saying goodbye." I said.
"Can't say it didn't cross my mind. But someone I admire and respect very much sent me here to do a job. So I am doing it" Joe answered.
"Shelburne" I said.
"I got my bags all packed and ready to go. All you have to do is come with." Joe said like it was easy.
"That's all huh?" I asked picking up my phone.
"Who are you calling?" Joe asked.
"Danny. If I leave him another letter he will never talk to me again" I replied.
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing" Joe asked with a smile.
On the way to my house I told Joe what had happened a few weeks ago. He asked me if I could do this. I had to solve this mystery of Shelburne. I just wasn't ready to leave my wife and kids.
Joe sat in the living room with our kids as Marissa followed me upstairs into our bed room. I grabbed my duffle bag out of the closet and was stuffing my clothes in.
Marissa was silent as she watched me pack my bag. I could hear her sniffling.
"Marissa" I started.
Her demeanor changed instantly for upset to pissed off.
"Don't Steven. This is what you want and you always get what you want." She replied angrily.
"I don't want to leave you guys alone. But this is a chance to put this Shelburne thing behind us" I replied.
"Let Joe bring this person here. I need you. Our kids need you" Marissa said choking back more tears.
I stopped what I was doing and stepped in front of her a cupped her cheek.
"I know babe. But I have to do this." I said kissing her lips gently.
I let go of her after a few minutes and finished packing. I kissed each of my kids and promised to be back in a few days. Joe said his goodbyes as well and he and I headed out the door.
(Chin's POV)
It was dark when I parked outside the gates of Hawaii Correctional. I heard the buzzer for the gate and saw Frank Delano being escorted out.
I didn't want to release him but I didn't have a choice. Kono's life was at stake.
He jumped into the suv and we headed to a private dock to talk.
"Hey I did everything you asked. You said that if I got you out you would let my cousin go." I yelled at his retreating form.
"Yeah about that" he said opening the door to a blue truck.
I pulled my gun out and pointed it to his head "Tell me where Kono is"
"Come on Chin use that big brain of yours. You know if I'm dead so is she" Delano chuckled.
"You realize it will only be a matter of time before I hunt you down." I sneered after he took my gun.
"Save me the hero crap. You don't have the time" Delano replied pulling out a laptop.
"What are you talking about" I demanded getting closer to the images on the laptop.
I saw both Kono and Malia held at gun point.
"What happens to them is entirely up to you Chin. You have 15 minutes to save them. But the bad news is you can only save one." Delano said.
He gave the location of both of them before taking off. I quickly called Adam giving him Kono's location and I speed towards my house.
Malia was on the floor when I arrived at my house. She had a gunshot wound and was struggling to breath. I frantically called for an ambulance.
(Steve's POV)
It was pitch black when the small speed boat docked by a small village in Japan. Joe started to lead the way.
"This village. I was here." I said staring at it.
"Yeah 18 hours after I left. The only way to survive was to keep Shelburne moving." Joe replied.
"That's it" Joe said pointing at a little shack that was lit up.
"You want answers they are right through there" He stated.
"You're not coming in?" I asked.
"No I think it's best for you to do this part alone. I am sorry, son, for everything" Joe said before leaving.
I casted one last confused look in his direction before heading towards the door. I knocked waiting for someone to answer.
I wasn't expecting to see the person on the other side.
"Mom" I said looking into the face of the woman I never thought I would see again.
