Chapter 3:

Elena found herself the next day spacing out during class, still mulling over last night's encounter. She had no idea what Spike was doing here, or why he was here, but she knew instinctively it couldn't be a good thing.

Jeremy had told her when they were alone about his suspicions Sunnydale could have vampires due to the high death rate, and she knew now he was right- but how often did these attacks occur? And how many vampires are there in this town?

"Miss Gilbert. Miss Gilbert!" The teacher shouted, abruptly breaking the brunette out of her thoughts.

"Yes?" She asked, not missing the way everyone's eyes were suddenly on her, including Buffy.

"Pay attention." Was all the teacher said, glaring at her before turning back to her lecture.

Giles scanned through the book open in front of him- something was bugging him about Buffy's cousin Elena Gilbert… it was like he had seen her somewhere. Which was absurd, as he had only just met her yesterday.

A picture caught his eye, and he saw the woman in it was an exact copy of Elena, only with curly hair. He scanned down the page until he saw the words 'Petrova doppelganger'.

After reading some more about this type of doppelganger bloodline, he stood up and hurried out of the library.

I need to find Buffy.

"So what was with the spacing out today in class?" Buffy asked her when the bell finally rang, signaling lunch period was beginning.

"Oh, nothing… just thinking about Mystic Falls, what everyone's up to." She lied. No way was she about to drag her cousin into this mess- not when it had destroyed her life.

As the two made their way to the cafeteria to meet up with Xander, Willow, and Jeremy, Elena became aware of someone hurrying towards them, and turned to see it was Giles.

"Buffy. Can I, uh, have a word with you? In private?" He asked, looking flustered about something. The brunette turned to see her cousin looked confused, but quickly hid it.

"Sure." The blonde said. "Save me a seat, will you?" She asked, smiling. Elena nodded and watched her cousin walk off with the librarian, wondering what could so important.

-BtVS-VD-

"Giles, what is it?" Buffy asked when they were out of Elena's earshot. Normally, he waited until after school or during a free period to tell her something… whatever it was must be something very important or very dangerous- or both- for him to have to tell her during lunch period.

"I'll explain once we reach the library- you should see it, not just hear it." Her Watcher replied. Unease settling in, the Slayer stayed quiet until they reached the library.

"Alright, we're here." She said.

"What do you know about doppelgangers?" He asked suddenly.

"They look exactly like each other… why?"

In response, Giles picked up a book and handed it to her. Not quite understanding, she glanced down to see a picture of… Elena. Only, she had curly hair and an 1800's style dress on. She was too stunned to say anything.

"That's a woman named Katherine Pierce; Elena's doppelganger. No one knows where she came from or what happened to her- she just vanished. That isn't the only thing, however- I found out that they are both Petrova doppelgangers, meaning their blood can be used to break some sort of curse." Giles explained.

"Do you think she knows?" Was all Buffy could say, still trying to process the fact her cousin was basically part of the supernatural world, as much as vampires or demons- and may not have any clue.

"I do not, but, I suggest finding some way to tell her- if what little I've found about the Petrova bloodline is correct, she could have a lot of creatures after her."

"I will. And I'll tell the others." The blonde said, handing the English man his book. "And Giles? Thank you, for telling me." She added as she was about to exit.

Giles just smiled slightly in response, before it fell off as he contemplated the danger his Slayer's possibly unsuspecting cousin was in.

Elena noticed how Buffy seemed to be giving her these odd looks throughout the rest of the day, something that both puzzled and frightened her. What if she found out my secret? She thought, panicking briefly, before realizing there was no way her cousin could know about her being a vampire- after all, she hadn't left any signs of blood or used her heightened abilities.

She'd finally had enough and went to approach the blonde, but before she could say anything her cousin left, saying she 'needed to see Giles along with Willow and Xander and that could it wait until she got back?'.

Sighing, she caught up with Jeremy and the two walked back to their aunts house- it felt weird calling it 'home'- in silence. Heading up to her room, Elena set to work on finishing her homework- something she hadn't had the chance to do in a long while- before noticing the first signs of bloodlust appearing.

Realizing it was late at night- around the time she usually fed- she quietly sneaked out her bedroom window. Of course, she could've always told Joyce she was going out to visit some friends, but wasn't sure if her aunt would ask to meet these friends at a later date- friends she would have to invent, because her aunt already knew she hung out with Willow and Xander.

Making her way downtown, she found a man who she able to easily compel to let her lead him into an alleyway and feed off of him. She was about to stop when a very familiar voice halted her.

"I must say- this is new. Not many vampires I know are stupid enough to attack someone in the middle of town- which is really saying something." She heard Buffy remark.

Forgetting the man and the fact her face wasn't human, she spun around to face her cousin. The look on her cousin's face would've been hilarious, if it wasn't for the danger Elena could see she was in by the way Buffy held a stake in one of her hands.

"Elena?" She said in disbelief, confusion, shock, and an outright stunned expression crossing her face.

So now Buffy knows Elena's a vampire, and Elena will soon learn Buffy's the Slayer. I apologize for no Spike, but he will be in the next chapter- I have most of it planned out already, and have for quite awhile.

Other stories I know I'm updating: 'Soulmates', 'Born to Die', 'Blood of A Doppelganger', and 'Blood, Love, and Gold'.

Those I hope I will soon: 'A Potter and A Malfoy', 'Lurking Danger'.

Stories I plan on starting: some kind of Teen Wolf/VD crossover with Elena/Derek, Elena/Stiles, or Elena/Isaac, a Being Human (UK)/VD crossover, and possibly yet another Hobbit/VD, this time with either Fili/Elena or Bard/Elena.

Shows I'm going to start watching that could lead to more stories/challenges: Sherlock, Once Upon A Time, Veronica Mars, Dollhouse, Game of Thrones, Revolution, Doctor Who, and some others.
