So… I've been watching a lot of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, and I got inspired by it. Therefore, while this isn't that crossed over with MHA, this IS an OC with similar powers. Why? Because why the fuck not. No one's gonna stop me, so HA!
With that said, let's get into...
[-Prologue: Isekai Protagonist No. 2023-]
He yawned, his eyes heavy from getting barely any sleep. Then again, he wasn't exactly known for going to bed on time like most of his friends. He was the kind of person to stay up until the crack of dawn playing video games, watching Youtube, and reading books. Sure, it wasn't the smartest thing to do, but then again, he didn't have much going on in his life, even as a full-time student.
However, almost as if the world was out to spite him, the one time that Tanner Hemmingway decided to go to bed at a regular time, he woke up more tired than he usually would've in comparison to all the other times that he had woken up after staying up so late.
That had to have been by far the worst kind of "fuck you" that Tanner had experienced for a while now. The only other time he could think of where he felt worse was when Lisa Taylor rejected him on a date proposal. Not that he cared all too much anymore, seeing as that was a year ago, but he digressed. So much for him trying to be productive!
Crawling out of bed, the blond-haired teen was dressed in nothing but his boxers. He was never a big fan of sleeping with clothes on—it just felt weird. Although, the one time his sister had walked in on him sleeping bare butt naked was the first time he had learnt what happens when a sister walks in on a brother naked, and no, it was not what those stupid videos said would happen. Oh, he got pounded alright, but with a fist to the nuts instead of what he had been thinking.
Ever since that day, he had decided to wear boxers at the very least. Was he weird? Yes. Was he perverted? Only when the subject was suitable. Was he the type of person to make stupid mistakes like that again? Ha! No.
As he looked at himself in the mirror, Tanner yawned again, frowning at himself. He was the living embodiment of a "string bean" and everyone mocked him for it. Even his Stepdad. It wasn't in the "you're pathetic" kind of way, but more of a "you could use some more muscle" kind of fatherly way. The other kids at school though did it in the "you're pathetic" kind of way.
He just guessed life had its own series of checks and balances. Even if he didn't agree with them 99% of the time.
Tanner had blond hair, red eyes, and slightly tanned white skin. He got his blond hair from his late father, and he got his red eyes from his mother. Honestly, he had no idea how she got red eyes, but then again, she was an albino, meaning her hair was naturally white. His sister got unlucky and got albinoism from their mother, too.
Guess he got lucky and didn't have to deal with that white hair crap! Yeah for being blond! The hair colour which had been synonymous with meaning you were seen as stupid. Yippee.
Sighing to himself, Tanner reached for his pit stick that he had placed next to his bed and applied it, opting to avoid a morning shower. Quite frankly he just wasn't a morning shower person. Was it gross? 100% of the time yes. But once again, Tanner was not in the mood to have to wait for his older sister, Rebecca Hemmingway, to get out of the bathroom.
Seriously, she took a full hour just to get ready in the morning, and with it already being 7:15 AM, he had no time to waste. The last thing he wanted to be was late for the bus this morning. The last time had been late was a few weeks back, and his new math teacher gave those who were late triple the homework. Kind of bullshit if you asked him. It wasn't his fault his sister took an extra long time to get ready in the morning compared to the last time!
Slipping into new pair of underwear and a black tea shirt that had the band name for Green Day in big white font slapped on the center, and a pair of sky blue jeans, Tanner was ready to begin the day anew. Now all he had to do was have his favourite bowl of cereal—Cap'n Crunch—for breakfast and he'd be ready to walk to the bus stop.
Before he left his bedroom, he snagged his phone from his dresser and slipped it into his pocket, but not before checking his texts. There was a message from his friend Reggie, someone he had known since kindergarten, and it was about something coming up. When he opened the text, he smirked. "Oh, sweet, Reggies gonna have a slumber party on the weekend. Wonder if Jack's gonna bring that girlfriend of his, what was her name again? Jolyne? Hmm…. Damn, too bad she's taken…." Tanner mumbled to himself as he shot his friend a "yo, meet me at the bus stop" text before putting his phone on silent, and slipping it into his back pocket.
Stepping out of his room and waving good morning to his 20-something-year-old sister, he trudged his way into the kitchen and prepped himself a bowl of cereal. Unfortunatly, they were out of Cap'n Crunch, so he had to stick with Apple Jacks. Not his favourite in the world but he'd have to make due.
"Good Morning, Tanner," his mom, Julie, said, sitting across from him. "How was your sleep? Did you like that new blanket your grandma gave you?"
Tanner sighed, taking a bite out of his cereal. "Made me itchy," the blond replied, swallowing. "Comfortable though, if that's what you were looking for," Tanner continued as his mom smiled.
"Well, that's good. Say, how's Jack been doing? I mean… I know his dad's been being rough with him, but—"
"Fuck that, he's being abused!" Tanner exploded, before clearing his throat. "That fat bastard keeps laying his ugly hands all over him. He had a mental breakdown in front of me last night, and it's pissing me off! No one believes him because his dad runs this town. The only one that believes him is us and his girlfriend! That fucker's gonna get what's coming to him… I know he is…." Tanner replied, before shaking his head.
"You can't just go saying stuff like that, Tanner," Rebecca called out from the hallway, before peeking her head out from the corner. "I mean, Jack's kind of known to overreact."
"Says the person who literally brings his father coffee every morning," Tanner grumbled, finishing his breakfast. "Whatever, I'm going. See you after school," Tanner said as he grabbed his backpack, slipped on his sneakers, gave his mom a hug, his stepdad a smile, and a grimace toward his sister, as she got ready for work, before leaving the house.
"Don't forget to tell me how you do on that exam, Tanner!" His mom called out to him, as Tanner shot her a thumbs up.
"Will do, Mom!" Tanner called back, before turning around and frowning at himself. He wouldn't say he had the best of lives or even the worst of them. He was kind of mediocre in that sense. The Hemmingways were a middle-class family, smack dab in the middle of society. It had been that way all throughout his life he had been living in the same suburb, knowing the same people, and being relatively safe for most of his life.
Sure, there were times when he had wished he had it a little bit better off, but what else was trying to expect? His mom suddenly turning around and saying: "we're millionaires" and run off to someplace in the Netherlands and become super wealthy through some convoluted way? Nah, he wasn't that hopeful.
That being said, he'd never trade it for anything.
Although, if there was one thing that would make him consider it, it was for him to be the hero of his own story. He wanted to beat up the bad guys like Jack's dad, and become the strongest in the land, simply because he could.
[Your wish has been heard. Neurolink Complete]
Tanner looked around his immediate area, that being the sidewalk just away from his house, scratching the back of his head. "What the hell was that?" The blond questioned, blinking a few times before shrugging. "Eh, whatever… probably nothing important." Now, where was he? Oh, yeah. But if he was going to be the biggest and baddest hero of them all, he'd have to start off someplace festering with crime.
Well… maybe not festering with crime. Actually, now that he thought about it, he had been reading that My Hero Academia comic book, manga series or whatever. He honestly kind of liked it. Sure, he was only at the part where some big bad douche canoe named All For One was fighting that All Might dude, but from how he saw it, if he was in that world, he would be THE strongest, stronger than them!
But how…? Maybe he'd have a similar power to that of All For One? Taking people's abilities and making them his own? Or, maybe… maybe he could have the same one as All Might? One For All! Nah, that Izuku guy already had it, and he was the main character. He was given it for a reason, even if he didn't like Izuku all that much, and much-preferred someone like Todoroki.
Question was if he was in that world… what would his Quirk be? Maybe something like Rimeru Tempest's Predator skill? But… less slime-based and more badass? Like, maybe instead of something like that, call it something akin to "Devour" or some edgy shit like that. Oh, and if he had that, he was probably going to need something like "Analysis" so that he could actually use the powers he took from the things around him!
And, now that he thought about it, maybe he didn't want to kill those he "devoured". Maybe he just… devoured their abilities and copied them?
Nah, screw that, if he was taking their power, he was going to kill them. 100%. Maybe that way that Bakugo asshole wouldn't ever get to say the shit he did to Izuku….
[Unique Skill Acquired: Devour – Gives the user the ability to devour things and turn what you devour into skills, up to and including people! To do this, simply stick out your arm, and cast the skill. Your hand will transform into a set of bottomless jaws and completely encapsulate the person or thing, devouring them and giving you their abilities!]
[Unique Skill Acquired: Analysis – This goes hand-in-hand with Devour, and that is that when you Devour something, you will be to analyze the Quirk factors of those who you use Devour on, or turn those objects into Quirk Factors and take aspects of them and turn them into skills you can use. However, you will never get the same power, you will always get an altered version of it.]
Oh, and he'd probably need to be able to speak and read Japanese if he was going to be in that world… damn, the more he thought about this, the more he realized he was just making himself a really shitty OC for a fanfiction he'd never write.
[New Skill Acquired: Bilingualism – You can speak fluently and read in both English and Japanese. You're so good at it, that even most locals from Japan would have to do a few double-takes to make sure they heard you right out of the sheer shock of how a foreigner could speak their language so well!]
Tanner once again stopped this time in the middle of a sidewalk. "The fuck? Am I hearing things? Damn, I need better hearing…" Tanner muttered as he continued to walk down the sidewalk. Now all he had to do was cross the sidewalk and make it to the bus stop. He could even see his friend off in the distance. Damn, he also needed better eyesight too. Maybe his mom was right, maybe he did need glasses.
He could've sworn that he had a distressed look on his face. Like… he was trying to get him to move out of the way? But why? He was fine, it wasn't as if he was about to get hit by something or shot.
[New Skill Acquired: Enhanced Senses – Your senses, specifically your hearing and your eyesight, and double that of a normal person's.]
Tanner was starting to get frustrated. "Okay, what the fuck was—"
"KID GET OUT OF THE ROAD!"
And just like that, he had realized something. As the headlights of a speeding truck shone onto him, the driver frantically trying to get the breaks to work, Tanner felt a sense of dread wash over him like non-other.
The voice he was hearing in the back of his head. It sounded an awful lot like Ciel's from That Time I Reincarnated as a Slime. And… the more he thought about it, as the truck was inches away from slamming into him, this setup also felt incredibly similar to that.
Why?
Because as the truck slammed into him, and as he felt himself get sucked underneath the truck, and as his bones began to splinter and blood began to pour out of every orifice, he heard the voice in the back of his head utter two words that made him want to scream.

And just like that, Tanner's life became that of an Isekai protagonist.

A/N: For those who have read "Gamer Of The Multiverse", which is my other Gamer Fanfiction, while this isn't at all connected to that series, the prologue is, if it wasn't obvious. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed the prologue. I'll see you all at the next one. Peace!
