Um, so... I guess this is pretty much the last chapter. But I think I will write an epilogue of some sort in a week or so.
I don't really know what to say here. I'm really grateful for all your comments and the favs this story has received.
When I uploaded the first chapter I thought that no-one would read this, much less like it. This is the first fanfic I have ever
shown anyone... And the first Sasu/Naru fic I have ever written. Considering all that, and the fact that English is not my native language... I think I did pretty well. I know this is a silly story and whatnot, but I personally really enjoyed writing it. I'm sorry that it took so long to update all the chapters, but yeah... I'm happy now. And exited for the epilogue...
Chapter 12.
Sasuke spent the whole weekend in his apartment, pretty much hiding from everyone. He didn't have the energy to answer his phone and he even shooed away his own mother, who had wanted to go shopping for clothes with him. Even the papers he had brought from work didn't manage to tear his thoughts away from Naruto. Sasuke had been trying to convince himself that he had made the right thing; insulting Naruto had been the only way to avoid a disaster. Maybe he had been a bit too harsh, but he had wanted to get his point across. Besides, Naruto had clearly crossed a line by kissing him without a warning, thus causing a huge amount of confusion and headache.
He had mulled over every possible reason that might have caused Naruto's behavior, but Sasuke didn't have the faintest idea. Had the kiss been a joke of some sort? Or maybe the blonde had just wanted to see how Sasuke would react? Or maybe, just maybe, Naruto had been planning to use the kiss to blackmail Sasuke and/or to ruin his career...?
Sasuke shook his head. His half-assed guesses didn't really seem reasonable, since pretty much every possible scenario would have damaged Naruto's own career as much as Sasuke's. Even though Sasuke did doubt Naruto's intelligence almost daily, he didn't really think that the other would be downright stupid…
"Did it feel like a mistake to you?"
Why Naruto had felt it necessary to ask something so foolish? Sasuke didn't know, and he wasn't sure why the question bothered him as much as it did. When he spent the nights tossing and turning in his bed, that question was the first and only thought in his mind. When he closed his eyes, he could see the painful expression that had taken over Naruto's features right before he had left Sasuke's room.
"Admit that you want me."
Sasuke jumped out of his bed with a string of curses. He couldn't let his mind wander off to the danger zone. A cold shower should be enough to help him keep what he had left of his self-respect.
Sasuke hadn't been repaired for the sight that greeted him at the office on Monday morning. Meredith, dressed in a mustard-yellow gown, was impatiently tapping the floor with her sturdy-heeled shoe. Unpleasant shiver travelled through Sasuke's body when his eyes took in the burgundy stockings that covered the bulky calves.
Meredith adjusted her curly red hair while her glasses slid down her short nose. "Good morning", she quacked. "How nice of you to finally join us."
Sasuke raised his brow in a questioning manner. There was still over ten minutes until his shift would officially start, so he definitely wasn't late.
Meredith crossed her pale arms across her chest. "I was just about to announce the changes that will take place starting today. Sasuke; Sakura will work as your assistant from now on. That will make your workload more manageable."
Sasuke ignored the overly sweet smile that Sakura sent his way. He was more concerned about the empty look in Meredith eyes. Finally he cleared his throat. "I can assure you, there's no need for assistant. I'm more than capable of taking care of my job just like befo–"
"Yes, before when mister Uzumaki was still here to lessen the load. Now that he's not working with us anymore, it would be unreasonable to–"
A loud murmur followed Meredith's words and filled the room, accompanied by questions and surprised cries. Sasuke, however, didn't hear it. He was already striding towards Mr. Sowenger's office. He knocked on the door but didn't wait for response. He yanked the door open and glared at his boss. "How come Naruto doesn't work with us anymore?"
Mister Sowenger was visibly surprised. "Sasuke? What are y–"
"Naruto." Sasuke repeated. "Meredith told me that he's not working with us anymore."
"Please, sit down", mister Sowenger offered. Sasuke didn't address his offer and in the end mister Sowenger gave up, shaking his head. "He just quit. Last Friday. There was an opening in father's publishing company and he was apparently interested. He told me that it 'felt like a mistake to work here', so–"
"What?"
"I don't really understand, either. I was sure that he was content working here. He really was an important part of our work community, so I'm deeply saddened by this. I did try to change his mind, but he wouldn't listen."
"That fucking asshole."
"...I beg your pardon?"
Sasuke turned on his heels and hurried towards the door. "I'm not feeling well. I'm going home."
"Sasuke–!"
Sasuke didn't slow down his steps, even thought he could clearly feel all the eyes on him while he strode through the office. He stormed into the elevator, pushing the button that would let him get to the parking garage. It felt like every cell in his body was vibrating with the same anger that was choking him.
"Idiot..."
He didn't even glance at his speed indicator when he drowe to the main road.
Sasuke could remember the way to Naruto's apartment clearly although he had only stopped by a few times before while delivering some work-related papers. This time he didn't bother ringing the doorbell – his fists were hungry for the hard wooden surface. He could hear his own knocks in the distance, but he was too deep in his own thoughts to really register the sound. After a while the knocking was rewarded with muffled curses that could be heard through the door.
When stunned Naruto opened the door, Sasuke stormed in quite violently, absentmindedly closing the door – he wasn't really paying attention; too busy slamming Naruto against the wall.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Sasuke asked, filling his fists with the fabric of Naruto's shirt.
"...What the hell do YOU think you're doing! Barging in my home like a madman–"
"You quit!"
Naruto's eyes widened momentarily, but then a bleak expression took over his face. "Yes I did", he finally stated. His eyes were cold and full of resentment. "Shouldn't you be celebrating somewhere? But yet, for some unknown reason, here you are – pinning me against a wall."
Sasuke pressed his lips in a thin line, trying to suppress the need to punch the younger man. He could hear the rush of his own blood in his ears. "Is this some kind of game to you?"
Naruto's gaze was turning darker. "What do you mean? I just seized the opportunity that my wealthy father presented to me. After all, isn't that the only way that I get things done…? By running to my dad."
"Don't be childish."
"Isn't that kinda ironic, coming from you? If my memory serves me right, you were the one who kept avoiding me just 'cause you couldn't handle the fact that you had sex with me!"
"...Because that should have never happened!"
"What the hell are you doing here then?"
Sasuke released his hold of Naruto and stumbled back. What was he really doing? It wasn't any of his concern if Naruto wanted to quit… Then why was he so angry…?
A bored look had masked the resentment in Naruto's eyes. "If you don't have anything else to say, I will have to ask you to leave. I have a date in a few hours, so–"
Sasuke didn't let him finish; his hands flying back to Naruto's collar, pushing the blonde back against the wall. "'Did it feel like a mistake to you'? What did you mean by that? "
Naruto let out a dry laugh, but the anger was making its way back to his blue eyes. "For a clever person you really are stupid."
Sasuke growled. He had never been as pissed off as he was right now and he had to grind his teeth together. "Are you really the one to talk, if you don't even know your own motives?"
"Why do you care? Like you said before: it was a mistake–"
Sasuke wasn't sure why he thought it was a good idea to kiss Naruto right then and there. Maybe it was better than punching him? At least he managed to shut him up... And when Naruto kissed back, Sasuke didn't care anymore; he just pressed their bodies closer together and fastened his other hand in those blond strands of hair. He used his free hand to draw Naruto's hips tightly against his own, letting his fingers graze over the patch of skin where Naruto's shirt had been hiked up a bit. The warm skin beneath his fingers was so much more than the faint memories, and he couldn't stop a low grunt that escaped his throat.
Sasuke was suddenly aware of the tightness of his pants, and the tongue tracing his lips only made the matters worse. When Naruto's tongue pushed its way in his mouth, his cock twitched painfully and he was forced to press his fingers tightly on Naruto's hips in an attempt to steady himself. For now he was tired of rationalizing his own behavior – he just wanted more. More of the skin that was like tan silk stretched over hard muscles. More of the delicious sounds that slipped out of Naruto's mouth every time they pressed against each other.
When Sasuke withdrew himself from the kiss, Naruto apparently decided that it was a fine moment for talking.
"So... Are you going to repeat your mistake?" His voice was breathy, but Sasuke could see a cold gleam behind those passion-glazed eyes.
Sasuke tightened his hold of Naruto's hair and the gesture made Naruto cry out in surprise. Sasuke used his hand to bend Naruto's neck so that he could press his lips against the skin. "Only an idiot would make the same mistake twice", he muttered while his hands travelled up the muscular stomach, finally stopping just to massage Naruto's chest. "This time I will etch every little detail in my mind."
