A Twist of Fate

Chapter Three: The Second Day

"Is your daddy a thief?" Moriyama asked, a certain lure held in his voice. Yukiko stared up at him, before shaking her head. "No."

"Then who stole the sparkle of the stars and put them into your eyes?" He continued on, even going as far as to gently touch Yukiko's pale cheek to give it a soft caress.

Yukiko rolled her eyes and swatted Moriyama's hand away. "Again with the pick-up lines?" She asked, annoyed that she always happened to be his first target to 'try out' his new pick-up lines (which he just so happened to scour the internet for).

It was a 'game' they had created in their second year, you could say. Moriyama would always start off with some stupid cheesy lame-ass pick up line, try it out on Yukiko. As always, she would just brush it off and ignore him, until one day he told her to say one herself. Eventually Kobori had joined in, and then Hayakawa, and Nakamura, as well. Soon enough, it became a game in between the five; who could come up with the best pick up line.

"Hmm, let's see..."

"'Eyes' is the subject today." Moriyama smirked, as Kobori just shook his head. It was their second day, and the three were currently walking to school together, the bright morning sun burning the exposed parts of their skin.

"Okay. Uhm, I don't know if you're beautiful or not, I haven't gotten past your eyes yet." Yukiko replied in a monotone voice, eyes too focused on the gently swaying trees.

Moriyama's eyes took on a certain sparkle at that point, "Hey, don't mind if I take it, do you?"

"No, I'm not planning to use it on anyone." Yukiko scowled, elbowing his arm as he wrote the line down in a small notepad he kept with him at all times.

They both turned to Kobori, who blinked as innocently as he could. "Uh. Your eyes are as blue as my toilet water at home?" He shrugged sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head.

Moriyama burst out laughing as Yukiko sniggered. "Kobori, how's that supposed to be flattering?" She asked, smirking at the thought of some girl falling head over heels in love from such a stupid line.

"Alright, my turn," Moriyama closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.

"Are we changing the subject now?" Kobori asked. Eyes hadn't always been his thing, anyway. Moriyama gave a nod, as he still appeared to be thinking over the various lines he found off the internet. "Damn, none of them seem good. Oh!" His eyes opened, and immediately locked onto Yukiko's own blue-grey eyes.

He stepped in front of her, grabbing her hands in his tightly, "Yukiko, if I asked you... Would you marry me?" He asked, sounding as serious as he could. That caused Yukiko to falter for a moment, before she pried her hands from his and then preceded to uppercut her friend.

"Idiot, what k- kind of pick up line was that!? It's stupid." She retorted, pushing past Moriyama, leaving the two boys to stare after her.

"Ehh, were you considering it?" Moriyama grinned slyly as he and Kobori both caught up with the flushing girl.

"Definitely not!" A swift kick made him stumble backwards.

"Ow!"

The second day of practice was now more fast-paced than the first. They did more after stretching, such as jogging around the track field, and Yukiko even separated them into groups to practice their shooting abilities and how well they all worked as a team and by themselves.

It was well into the second hour of their practice, and Yukiko had now gathered everyone up. "Alright, we'll just be having a few mini-game's for the freshman, just so I could see all of your abilities and talents!" She spoke loud enough so everyone could hear.

Excited whispers and claims of 'being the best' made her smirk as she folded her arms across her chest. "Okay, here's the team list! Beside your name will be a color: green, blue, orange, or red. That is the team you are on. On the bench behind me are wristbands, you are to take the matching color, and head to your side of the hoop." She held up a paper that her uncle had so graciously bestowed upon her, and waited till the all flocked about before handing it to the nearest person, which happened to be the very blond model who had just joined.

Kise took the list, searching for his name before pouting. "But, green isn't my color, Yuki-"

"That's Kasamatsu-sempai, to you, punk." She cut him off, giving off a dangerous aura.

"O- Okay..." He wordlessly handed off the paper to the remaining first years who still hadn't had the chance to find out what team they were put on. Kise sniffled, watching the older girl jog towards the Coach, talking quietly.

That was the moment Kise wished that he had super hearing, because he was sure that they were talking about him, judging from the obvious looks he was getting from both Yukiko and the Coach. Kise blinked, realizing that they were both staring at him. He turned away quickly, grabbing the green wristband that was in a small box on the bench next to him, his face flushing.

After another successful day of practice, Yukiko had finished changing and she was currently now standing in the Coach's office, a small frown on her face.

"I don't see why you won't let him play in any practice matches..." Yukiko muttered, casting blue-grey orbs to the floor.

"That is exactly why, Yukiko. It's just a silly practice match that I arranged. It'll be easy and there is no need to show the other team how much powerful our Ace is." Takeuchi conclude, giving a firm nod as he looked over the applications of the players.

"But, uncle-"

"Yukiko."

"... Fine." Yukiko sighed, turning to quickly walk out of the coach's office, her disappointed gaze not leaving the floor. She grabbed her bag and hoisted it over her shoulder and was marched down the hallway, her dull gaze turning into a glare and frown. 'Why can't he just let him play this once? Wasn't he even watching when that stupid flashy idiot was playing in the mini-games? I mean, wait-... What do I me-' So absorbed in her thoughts, Yukiko rounded a corner and slammed right into someone. She made a girly noise as she carelessly tripped over her own feet and started to fall backwards, the sensation like butterflies in her stomach.

"Y- Yukiko-sempai!" When she didn't feel the ground, she cautiously opened her eyes and was shocked to see the blond model standing over her. She realized that he had one hand in a firm grip around her waist and the other holding the back of her head.

Kise pulled her up right, and Yukiko proceeded to smack him. "OW!" He yelped, rubbing his arm with a pout on his face. "W- Why did you do that, Y-"

"Kasamatsu."

"Eh?"

"K- Kasamatsu-sempai..." She murmured, cheeks flushing a dark rosy color. "I told you to call me Kasamatsu-sempai. Remember, idiot?" Yukiko didn't wait for an answer, quickly walking ahead of the new addition to the team. "Besides, we're not even on a first name basis." She added.

"Eh? Can we be!?" Kise asked, sounding quite excited.

"SHUT UP!"

"OUCH!"

I pulled a Moriyama and looked on the internet for pick-up lines. xD I don't have any awesome ones. :P But don't worry, I wouldn't dare go out and try to use 'em on anyone lol
