Chapter 9: Eggman's Taunts

Mecha Tails looked at them, grinning evilly. "Thank you making me a full robot," he said. Zonic didn't know how to respond to this. "I shall serve all of you until I can no more." That hit Zonic like kick to the chest. What did he mean by that?

"What do you mean?" Zonic asked.

Zeena looked Zonic and frowned, "He means that he will serve us, until he cannot any longer, meaning he has been..."

She was cut off by an excited shout from Zazz. "Destroyed!" He madly cackled.

Zonic's eyes widened but he nodded. "Very well," he said, looking at Mecha Tails. Mecha Tails nodded at Zonic. The dark blue Zeti couldn't help, but swallow a lump in his throat. He didn't want to lose Mecha Tails as he had been the only one of his friends who survived. But ... his new life. He still didn't want to lose his buddy even if he was now a robot. Zonic sighed and turned his back to Mecha Tails, wondering how be became a robot in the first place. Not a full robot, but a cyborg. Tails was smart, Zonic knew that a lot. How had he fallen into a trap like that? Zonic sighed and turned around towards Mecha Tails. "I have a question for you: how is it you got transformed into a cyborg?"

The fox robot processed what Zonic had said and then answered, "I..." How could he explain it to the Zeti that Zonic used to be a hero? He seemed to really want to know.

The dark blue Zeti sighed, waiting for an answer. Zavok looked at him and then at the other Zeti. "I can tell that he and Mecha Tails want to talk alone," he said. "Let's go outside."

The other Zeti nodded and followed him. When they were gone, Zonic and Mecha Tails were alone. Mecha Tails started to talk.

"I was strapped to this same table as I was before," Mecha Tails explained bringing up the memory in his head. "Masters Zik, Zavok and Zomom had left. Master Zomom had taken a large sandwich with him. I was also going to try and reprogram the computer, but...I was not in time for it started before I even got one of my tails to net the controls." When the mech was finished Zonic was completely shocked and he stared at Mecha Tails with that same expression in his face.

"I...I see," Zavok said, shocked.

The Zeti didn't know that had been the reason how Tails had become the cyborg slave to the Deadly Seven; Mecha Tails. Now he was all robot. Did Zonic still want him to be his little buddy even though he was the Zeti servant. He sighed and nodded, then walked outside as Mecha Tails followed him. The other Zeti looked at Zonic.

"You seem a little down. What exactly happened?" Zeena asked, crossing her arms across her chest.

"We just talked for a bit; it's fine," Zonic told her.

Zeena frowned as she saw the hint of sadness in Zonic's eyes. Zazz pointed at him. "To me...he looks upset!" Zonic frowned at that and turned from them.

"I'm fine."

Zeena kept her frown at Zonic. "What are you upset about? The robot and you aren't friends anymore. You're a Zeti now. We don't care about trivial things like that," Zeena said and Zonic could hear the tone of disgust while she was telling him this and it made him not like what she said. Not one bit.

"Whatever," he said. "Some of my old personality is still with me. It'll vanish completely, though, sometime later."

He looked down. A part of him ..still wanted Mecha Tails to be his best friend, but he knew that would never happen with his new life.

Zeena looked at him and nodded, then turned away. Then all seven Zeti fell to the ground in pain, grasping their heads in pain. Once it was over Zeena, Zavok and Master Zik stood up first. Zeena growled in anger as she clenched her fists. "Looks like the doctor wants us back," she said in a scary, sweet voice.

Master Zik glanced at them. "Then we had better head back," he said.

Zonic stood up from the ground and groaned and nodded. he wouldn't be able to get used that, would he? The seven Zeti ran off and soon were in front of Eggman, who grinned.

"Took you lot long enough. Did you find me a base?" Eggman asked, still holding his grin.

"We have," Zonic said. "The Lava Mountain zone."

Eggman clasped his hands together, "Excellent. Where in that zone?"

Zonic sighed and told him. "It's by the building in the Lava Mountain Zone."

Eggman grinned and chuckled. "Good. We should leave for there right away," Eggman ordered the Zeti. The Zeti looked at each other and then back at Eggman, nodding. Eggman began to walk toward Lava Mountain Zone with the seven Zeti following him. Once they got there he looked around and grinned. "So, this is the zone? The same zone I faked my death in and you were going to have your last confrontations," he said with a sneer and the Deadly Seven looked a little uneasy, especially Zonic. Zonic looked at him and nodded, looking at the other Zeti nervously. Eggman clasped his hands together, "So, let's build a base and get started!"

Zonic gulped and nodded. Eggman looked back to rocky mountains and lava underneath and stuffier them, trying to see where would be a good place to build a back. He suddenly pointed at a cliff overhanging near the lava. It wasn't too far near the ledge and not too far away to break. Perfect.

"There!" Eggman exclaimed, grinning.

The other Zeti looked to where Eggman was pointing. They looked back at Eggman, who grinned.

"That would be a nice spot," Zavok said.

Eggman nodded, keeping his grin. "Alright! Let's start building!" All the while no one noticed Zonic getting more nervous. He didn't want Eggman to build Eggmanland here. Why couldn't he do it on their dead planet? It'd be easier for even though he said he wanted a challenge it'd still be easier.

He glanced around nervously before looking at Eggman, and cleared his throat. "Eggman...can't you build your base on Earth?"

Eggman laughed at what Zonic had said and looked at him, "Sonic, Sonic, Sonic, you still don't understand. Sure I could build on Earth, but as I said before there would be no challenge for me there as well as the air is pretty dead so I could die if I set foot on the planet."

Zonic glared at him angrily and sighed. "Well, maybe you should die," he said.

"That's pretty heartless coming you, Sonic?" Eggman said, raising a brow and then turned his back to them. "But I guess it's most likely to happen since all your friends are dead and only one is still alive, but only by programming." This made Zonic's anger boil. How dare he bring this up? He was trying to get over it.

"You...don't you dare talk about Tails like that!"

Eggman looked back at Zonic, still having a raised brow, "Oh? And all of a sudden you still care about you dead friends when gave into the Zeti. They would still be alive if you had saved our planet, but you didn't." Zonic felt the urge to lunge at Eggman in anger, but he had the conch so it would be no use.

"Shut up, you bastard!" Zonic yelled in anger.

Eggman put a thumb and forefinger to his chin, "That seems a little extreme for you, Sonic." Zonic ignored him. Eggman then, clasped his hands together, smiling at the rest of the Zeti. "Well...should we get started?" Zonic looked at them nervously, and then back at Eggman. He wasn't sure about this. Eggman pointed at the cliff side and grinned, "Now get to work!" He put a hand near his pocket. "Before I get out the conch to make you," Eggman threatened.

Zonic hesitated and nodded, then looked at the other Zeti. They nodded and walked away as Zonic followed them. The seven Zeti jumped to the cliff side and began to look around it to see where they can start to build.
