Chapter 14: Memories of Zonic's Past

Zonic was in the cave once more, crying, shaking and hugging his arms. He wanted this all to go away to be just a bad dream and to wake up in his room...in the workshop and go downstairs to see Tails working in the Tornado. His tears fell down his cheeks just thinking of his once little brother and he fell to the floor. He heard a noise and turned around to see the other Zeti.

"What do you want?" He asked.

The Zeti looked to their leader and looked around, curiously. "What is this place?" Zeena asked.

"It's where I was born," Zonic said. "What are you doing here? I just want to be left alone."

Zavok didn't know how to talk to his son. He was a teenager. The last time he saw his son he was either a toddler or just over. He didn't know how to respond that well.

Zeena looked at Zavok, "Why don't we just leave him be?" Zavok shook his head.

"I want him to understand," the Zeti leader said.

Zonic looked down as he heard this. What did he mean? Understand what? That he didn't mean to destroy the home he had always known? Killed the people he had been friends with and cared about for so long? Yeah...like he would believe that.

"Son, why are you holding this grudge?"

Zonic looked at him. "Why do you think?"

Zavok looked down and sighed. He had to apologize to Zonic or else he would never forgive him. "I am sorry for destroying Earth," he said, moving towards Zonic. Zavok placed his hand on Zonic's forehead, and the dark blue Zeti's eyes widened as memories flew though his head. He remembered everything.

Zonic held his tiny red clawed hands out to Zavok as he had something hid behind his back. When he brought the blanket out Zonic squeaked in response and took the blanket from him, hugging it. Zavok smiled down at Zonic as he watched him hug the blanket. Zonic flinched away from Zavok's hand and looked at the stone floor, his eyes were shaking along with his body with tears about to come out. All these memories...they were happy...yet he had thought he had been an orphan while on Earth. He ran to Zavok and hugged him tightly, sobbing in both grief and happiness. Zavok smiled and hugged him back.

"I promise that I will never hurt you again," he said.

Zonic nodded. He wasn't used to hugging, especially if he only just found out this was his Father, but he felt it right. He wanted to have a parent. Again. He had grown up mostly without any and surely wanted one now.

"I am sorry I was angry at you...dad," he said.

Zavok smiled at him nodded. Zonic got out of the hug tried to calm himself down. Once he did, they both turned the other Zeti, smiling. They all looked as if they were bored, a part from Master Zik who seemed a little interested in wondering why and how Zonic was his son and how he had one.

"How is Zonic your son, anyway?"

"I'm interested in that too," Zomom said.

Zavok sighed to himself. Was this really necessary?

Zeena frowned at him, "Well, you gonna tell us or not?"

Zavok nodded and told them. When he was finished explaining, the other Zeti looked shocked.

"What about my mom?" Zonic asked.

Zavok looked at Zonic and the other Zeti and sighed. He didn't like talking about Zavron, but if Zonic wanted to know more about his Mother he would tell him and also to tell the others so they understand that he isn't lying about this. Zavok nodded. "She was a beautiful person," he said. "We met a long time ago, and had you. Unfortunately, she died after giving birth to you. Her name was Zavron."

Zonic blinked and frowned. He wondered what she looked like. Though in the painting he saw he saw that his Mother was blue, like him. "Can I see the painting?" He asked.

Zavok nodded and handed his son the painting of their family. Sure enough, he looked almost exactly like his Mother a part from her having long light blue hair and his quill-like from being a hedgehog for so long. Her eyes were emerald green like his, but slightly lighter nearing to a jade. She also had two purple horns on her head that curled forward a little. Zonic felt tears fall down his face as he looked at the painting. His mother was beautiful. He sniffed and handed the painting back to his father. Zavok sighed and patted Zonic's back before lookin at the other Zeti, ready to explain to them.

"So, how did you meet her?" Master Zik asked.

Zavok sighed. "Like I said, it was a long time ago. I met her while I was exploring the forest; she was living in this cave and we saw each other. You could say it was love at first sight."

Zonic looked at his Dad and then looked down, thinking about his Mum. He had never met her or known her. He had only seen her in the paintings and one memory after she gave birth to him, barely alive. Zonic then, continued to listen to Zavok as he explained the rest of him knowing Zavron.

"We dated for a while and then had Zonic," Zavok said. "After she gave birth, however...Zavron...died."

Zonic kept looking down, he still couldn't believe it. His Mother died bringing him into the world. He wondered if there was something wrong with him to make her die or she was too weak to stay alive which made him upset. He wanted to know what she was like, but listened to Zavok as he continued.

"I took care of Zonic for a few years as I created the Chaos Emeralds. That's when it happened. When the final Chaos Emerald had been created, they send out a power surge that almost destroyed our planet's core and caused the gravitational pull to go haywire. Zonic fell to Earth, along with the seven Chaos Emeralds."

All the Zeti blinked and looked at each. Zeena looked back at Zavok, "And after that we all met and created the Deadly Six."

Zavok nodded and looked at his son, wondering what he thought. Zonic looked down, nodding, he understood now through the more detail. Though he wanted to know what his Mum was like.

"What was mom like?" He asked.

"She was a very nice person," Zavok said. "Zavron had a sweet personality. She was pretty impatient, though, and was cocky as well. Some of that has carried on to you as well."

Zonic blinked and sighed, thinking that that might change some time soon. He began to worry that that might happen, but tried not to worry about it. Zavok smiled and looked at him, wondering what Zonic was thinking. The dark blue Zeti sighed and thought about Blaze, his crush, The teenage blue Zeti now looked now looked upset. He would never know if she had ever liked him back and that made him sad. She was also dead, but...he didn't exactly know if she was in his world when this happened so there may be a chance that she's alive. Maybe.

Zavok noticed his expression. "What is it?"

"Oh..." Zonic said. "There's this girl I like...her name is Blaze. She's a great person but I just hope she isn't...dead...if she was one Earth, anyway. She's from a different diminution, so...there's a chance she still may be alive."

Zavok looked at Zonic in shock and...concern. He didn't know that Zonic had liked someone and if they were dead it would be his fault and then his son would be alone for the rest of his life. He didn't want that for him. Not after what he went through.

"Is it possible to somehow get her here?" Zonic asked.

Zavok thought about it for a bit. He as though he was quite deep in thought and then answered his son. "Yes, there is. We can use the Chaos Emeralds to create a portal."

Zonic nodded his head, but nervously brought out his blue Chaos Emerald he always keeps with him and showed it to them.

Zavok smirked and nodded. "We can use this to make a portal," he said.

"Okay," Zonic said.

Zonic nodded at this and looked at the emerald. He wished his friends were alive and not dead, especially Tails who was roboticized. And he had done it willingly. What was happening to him? Zonic looked at the emerald and gave it to Zavok, who examined it.

"We need all seven in order to open the portal."

Zonic looked down as though saddened by this news. How would they find them. He didn't have Tails' Emerald tracker with him so that makes it harder for them to find them. "How can we find them?" He asked.

Zavok thought about this one. The Chaos Emeralds were always tricky to find in places. How would they find all seven of them? They also needed to start building on Eggman's base so he doesn't suspect anything.

"We could put a tracker into Mecha Tails so that he can track them," Zavok said.

Zonic nodded and looked at Zeena. "We'd also need to start building Eggman's base."

Zeena nodded, "So he doesn't get suspicious. Yes."

Zazz jumped up and down, "And then after we destroy him and his factory! Ha ha ha ha ha!"

Zonic chuckled and nodded.

"Let's go back then," Zeena told them, sighing.

The other Zeti nodded and walked back to the base.
