Chapter 15: Building the Base
They arrived there later and saw Mecha Tails there with all the materials there and Eggman waiting there, angrily. He saw them coming and glared at them.
"Where have you lot been?! You haven't even started building yet!" Eggman exclaimed. Zonic was in shock he had noticed them gone, but that didn't change the fact he got out the conch and blew into it as a punishment.
The Zeti groaned and fell to the ground, holding their heads in pain.
Eggman stopped blowing the conch and put it away. "That was a punishment for not starting work."
"We were getting the materials," Zavok said angrily.
Eggman raised a brow, "Really? Your robotic friend here came back with the supplies when I came to check on your progress, but you lot weren't here."
Zonic clenched his fists at what Eggman had called Mecha Tails. "We were on our way back."
"Back from where? Obviously since you have no supplies you didn't go get any," Eggman asked, quite annoyed at the Zeti.
Zonic looked at Zeena, wondering what to say. She just shrugged at him and Zonic looked back at Zonic, a little worriedly. He didn't want to tell Eggman. It seemed too personal.
"Well!?" Eggman exclaimed, getting impatient.
"We were busy," he said.
Suddenly, Zeena cut in. She pointed at Zonic and he glared at her, "Mr Boredom over there, got bored and went for a run. We thought we should go with him just in case he doesn't do anything stupid." Zonic folded his arms and huffed.
Eggman looked at them all, suspiciously, examining their expressions as he looked at each one of them. Did he really believe that story? Finally, Eggman nodded. "Fine, that sounds...something like he would do." Eggman glared at them all. "But do it again and I'll blow the conch for longer." The Zeti nodded. "Now...GET TO WORK!" Eggman shouted at them. Zonic was quite surprised at the shout. Eggman's never one to yell like that. Unless he's yelling from far away, but he does have a bad temper. But still that surprised Zonic. This whole new planet thing must be bringing out the worst in them.
They nodded and began to build the base. Mecha Tails was also helping. The Zeti and Mecha Tails each grabbed some logs or metal and began to cut them up or meld them. Eggman watching from the sidelines, carefully. He grinned, knowing that they would complete Eggman's base soon.
Zonic have a scrapped badnik to Mecha Tails and he cut it up melded it together, before Zonic handed it to Zavok to start building the metal bit of the base. Zavok put the metal together and continued to build the base. Zonic went back to the pile of scrapped badniks and picked another one up and took it over to Mecha Tails, sighing. This was going to be a long day. By the end of the day, they had two rooms done. The Zeti sighed and stretched; they knew their work was far from over.
Eggman looked at it and sighed, before looking to the tired Zeti. "Fine, you lot can rest...until sunrise."
Zonic eyes widened and his mouth dropped open as Eggman walked away laughing.
He growled in anger and looked at Zeena. "How long is this going to take?"
"Who knows," she said while shrugging. "Maybe up to a week or more?"
"Great."
Zonic began to walk away and found a small rock formation near the base and sat down and lay his back against it. He watched as the sky darkened and the moon began to come out and stars start to appear in the sky. The dark blue Zeti smiled and closed his eyes to rest. He wondered that once they found all the emeralds how Blaze would react to seeing him like this. Would she like him this? Would she be scared, or accept his new form? How would she take it if he told her he wasn't from Earth originally but was born on Lost Hex? So questions ran through his head and he couldn't get to sleep and sighed. He stood up and scratched his quill-like hair and thought about taking a run for clearing his thoughts.
Zonic ran off, clearing hos thoughts. He passed some other Zones until he came to Windy Hill. Zonic looked at the white wasteland that used to looked similar to Green Hill Zone from Earth. He sighed. He wished it hadn't be redecorated. It looked better before it went all white.
The teenage Zeti gazed out at the wasteland and ran off; he didn't like it there anymore. As he ran he saw something stuck in the middle of one of the loops. He strained his eyes to see it better and walked closer to loop and jumped near it to see better and gasped. A grey Chaos Emerald was half buried in the dirt and he smirked He picked the Chaos Emerald up and put it in his quill-like hair, then wondered if there were any more emeralds around Lost Hex.
If there were he would have to keep a sharp look put for them and not let Eggman know he has them. He continued to run, searching for more Chaos Emeralds. He then, realized that he would either come across any if he least expected it or they put that Emerald tracker in Mecha Tails. As Zonic began to get tired he collapsed on the ground and fell into a dreamless sleep.
