Chapter 21: A Broken Love

Blaze looked at where Zonic had gone and quickly followed him, worried about him. The Zeti screamed in rage and hatred. He saw Shadow and growled, running up to him and killing the hedgehog instantly. Then he left, destroying buildings and people with energy blasts. He continued doing this until it was almost destroyed.

Blaze found Shadow's body and gasped and then saw the city, tears appeared on the edge of her eyes and she finally found the Zeti standing in the middle of it, breathing heavily. "Zonic...please stop..." She began to approach him, getting a flame in her hand just in case.

Zonic glared at her. "I can't," he said. "Destruction is what Zeti do...what we enjoy."

Blaze widened her eyes and looked around and then back at him, the tears still in her eyes, "You destroyed my kingdom..."

"And with good reason!" Zonic shouted, tears in his own eyes. "My friends are dead! I have no one left except Tails and the other Zeti! When I saw Earth's destruction with my own eyes, all I could think about was how helpless I had been to stop them!"

Blaze looked at him in concern, but then sighed, "But...you killed Shadow."

"I've killed people before. It doesn't matter, Blaze." He then thought about it and turned away. "I thought that I could bring you with me...but it's too dangerous. You wouldn't want anything to do with me after seeing what I did." He closed his eyes and a portal appeared. "I'm sorry, Blaze...but we can't be together."

Blaze's eyes widened and she tried to say something but Zonic stepped inside the portal, and it closed forever. Blaze looked down and sighed as a tear fell from her eye, "Zonic..."

When Zonic got back to the other Zeti they all noticed that Blaze wasn't with him and he was also...crying. Zavok went over to his son to try and comfort him, but he was pushed away.

"Leave me alone," he said, and ran off towards the cave in Silent Forest. When he got there, he fell to the ground, sobbing with grief.

He couldn't let Blaze come into his life again. Not after what he's done. He didn't want the one he cared for so much to be hurt by him, to see the bad things he did. He didn't want that for her. It had all gone wrong when Silver somehow vanished. How had that happened, anyway? People couldn't just vanish into thin air. He began to think back to that part after they had confessed their feelings and Silver was there, but she said she couldn't go with him, because of her kingdom and turned away from him. He was about to leave as well when Silver cried out and they both looked at him seeing his hand fading.

Zonic thought about what had happened during that time. He had disappeared after they confessed and then turned away from each other. The Zeti hesitated and shook his head at the thought, thinking it impossible. But there had to be some sort of connection to what they said and them turning away and Silver disappearing. Zonic thought about that.

He knew that it had to be a time paradox, but what had caused it, he didn't know. It was intriguing, to say the least, but also confusing. Nevertheless, he had to stay away from Blaze from now on. But...the whole incident with Silver made him wonder...why did he disappear after THEY; him and Blaze turned from each other. It was too much for him. He groaned in pain and pushed the thought aside. The Zeti continued to cry and soon fell asleep.

When he woke up, he saw a shadow above him and growled, knowing who it was who followed him.

"Go away, dad," Zonic said, still crying.

Zavok looked down at him. "What's wrong, son?"

Zonic looked away from him, not wanting to tell him. It wasn't really his business, but maybe it would calm him down if he told Zavok? "It's nothing. I don't want to talk about it."

Zavok looked at Zonic in concern. It would be best if he told him what it was that was bothering him. "Son, tell me what's wrong. Maybe I can help."

Zonic hesitated and nodded, then told him what happened in the Sol Dimension. Zavok listened closely and his eyes grew wide with what happened to Silver and then Zonic killing Shadow and destroying the kingdom before leaving. Zonic looked down, wondering what Zavok will say to him.

He sighed and put a hand on his son's shoulder. "Son...maybe this is for the best. Blaze would be scared if she knew about this. It's best you leave her be."

Zonic nodded and hugged his father, crying even more. He didn't want to, but he knew he had to. He didn't want her to be brought into the life he was now accustomed to.

"I understand, father," he said.

Though Zavok was also curious as to what happened Zonic's friend Silver and why he suddenly disappeared. It sparked his interest and rose his thoughts about it, raising many possible thoughts.

"Why did Silver disappear?" He asked.

Zonic shrugged. He didn't care anymore. Zavok frowned at that. There had to have been a reason for Silver to disappear especially after they turned away from each other after they confessed. He nodded and left. His son watched him leave and sobbed even more. Zonic couldn't do it. He didn't want Blaze here any more with him. Yet a part of him actually DID want her with him. He tried his best to ignore it, but it was hard. He knew he loved her, especially after hearing her say she loved him too. Zonic growled and shook his head, getting the thought out of his mind. He looked around the cave and sighed, then lay down and closed his eyes to rest.
