First Love Never Dies: Final Chapter
Jesse walked to the car with his arm wrapped securely around Aubrey's waist as she leaned most of her body weight on him. Both were still a little shaken from the hospital visit but as soon as Aubrey was told that her pain was only caused by Braxton hicks contractions, a huge weight was lifted from the pair's shoulders.
"I've never been so scared in my life" Aubrey said quietly, stopping to turn and face Jesse as they reached the car. Jesse slipped his hands into hers and squeezed them reassuringly. "I thought-" before she could finish, Jesse wrapped his arms around her and she rested her forehead on his shoulder.
"What you thought doesn't matter anymore because it's never gonna happen, you're going to bring our baby girl into this world perfectly healthy" Aubrey lifted her head and locked eyes with Jesse.
"I couldn't have asked for a better dad for Ellie"
"I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful girlfriend" Aubrey bit back a smile as she dropped her head slightly, shaking her head. "Listen to me, you're the most gorgeous woman I've ever met" She ran her tongue along her lip before detaching herself from Jesse.
"Thanks Jesse, thanks for everything" Aubrey said quietly as Jesse opened the car door.
"No need to thank me for anything, sweetie" He helped her into the car before closing the door. Aubrey glanced down at her hands with a huge smile on her face, she honestly couldn't find anyone better than Jesse.
Four Weeks Later
Aubrey was in the house with Chloe one Saturday morning, Jesse had left early, declaring that he had some errands to run which had surprised Aubrey because him and her both knew that she could go into labour any day now.
Chloe set off down the hall to use the bathroom as Aubrey stood up to stretch. She winced, feeling a pain shoot through her abdomen. Aubrey shrugged it off as just another Braxton hicks contraction but when she felt a gush of liquid leave her body, realisation hit her.
"Chloe!" She yelled, her voice slightly shaken because she was nervous yet excited. In the matter of seconds Chloe burst back into the room "My water just broke" Chloe raised her hand to her mouth.
"Uh have your proper contractions started yet?" She asked, placing a hand on Aubrey's back as she lead her best friend to the bedroom to her changed.
"No, not ye-Oh my god!-Yes, yes they have"
Chloe had quickly helped Aubrey get a change of clothes and the two were now on the couch trying to call Jesse.
"Seriously Bree, you need to go to the hospital!"
"I'm not leaving here without Jesse's hand in mine!" Aubrey snapped back, sweat forming on her brow, biting back a scream as another contraction hit her. Aubrey dialled Jesse's number again but this time it went straight to the answering machine.
"Aubrey this isn't really about Jesse at this minute, this is about getting you to hospital before this baby wants to come out your lady business!" Chloe stood up from the couch and folded her arms across her chest. Both pairs of eyes locked onto the front door as it swung open.
"Where have you been?!" Aubrey screeched, Jesse jumped as his eyes widened. "I'm in labour, you insensitive asshole!" She yelled and now it was Chloe's turn to widen her eyes.
"Aubrey, calm down, we just need to get you to the hospital as soon as possible" Jesse stated calmly as him and Chloe worked together, helping Aubrey to her feet.
Jesse was almost brought to his knees from the unbelievable death grip from Aubrey's hand as he stood by her bedside. Chloe was outside waiting on Aubrey's parents arrival as Jesse was by Aubrey's side as she was delivering.
"You're doing great, Bree" Jesse assured, moving a strand of loose hair away from Aubrey's sweaty forehead. Jesse stepped towards the end of the bed and slowly moved his head to try and look.
"Don't you dare look down there!" Aubrey warned, yanking on Jesse's hand causing him to stumble back to his previous position.
"Last stretch Aubrey, are you ready for the final push?" The midwife asked. Aubrey rolled her head to the side, struggling to keep her eyes open and Jesse dropped to his knees beside her.
"I don't think I can do it, Jesse" Aubrey whined in a quiet voice.
"Of course you can, you're a Posen and Posen's can do anything" He smiled, placing his hand softly on her cheek before pressing a kiss to her lips "you ready?" He asked and she nodded, lifting her head back up.
"Okay, Aubrey, 1, 2, 3, push!" The midwife encouraged.
"You did it, sweetheart" Jesse whispered.
"Congratulations to you both!" Aubrey rolled her head to the side once again as relief washed over her.
Aubrey cradled her daughter in her arms as she lay in the hospital bed with Jesse sitting half on it and half off since there wasn't enough room.
"She's beautiful" Aubrey whispered, resting her head on Jesse's shoulder. Jesse sniffed hard as a tear trickled down his cheek which made Aubrey lift her head. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just like you said, she's so beautiful"
"Aw don't cry, you'll make me cry" Aubrey chuckled as tears welled up in her eyes. "Hey, Ellie, daddy wants to see you again" She gently passed her on to Jesse, who placed a kiss on her forehead before gently rocking her back and forward.
"My heart still melts every time you refer to me as her daddy despite not being her biological father"
"How many times do I need to tell you? You're gonna be a much better dad than Ryan will ever be to any woman's child" Jesse turned his head and smiled warmly at the love of his life who had recently brought the other love of his life into this world.
"Hey, do you want to know the real reason why I went out this morning?" He asked, gently passing Ellie back to her. Aubrey raised an eyebrow as Jesse reached into his pocket, pulling out two sets of keys which he dangled between their faces.
"Is that?..."
"Keys to our new house which I've spent months trying to get" Jesse beamed as he watched the smile spread on his girlfriend's face.
"Oh my god Jesse, that's amazing!"
"I told them about you being pregnant and they said we can move in whenever we're settled with the baby" He explained. "You ready for Chloe and your parents?" He asked, swinging his legs over the side of the bed.
"Yeah, bring them in" Jesse got up and left the room. "You're daddy is the most amazing man in the world, Ellie and you'll learn to love him as much as I do when you grow up" Aubrey whispered to her newborn daughter.
"Congratulations!" Chloe burst into the room, rushing over to Aubrey to give her a hug "oh my god! She's adorable Bree!"
"Thanks, Chlo do you want to hold her?" Chloe nodded her head eagerly and sat on the chair beside the bed as she cooed over Ellie.
"I'm so proud of you, sweetie" Aubrey's mother leant over her daughter to hug her and give her a kiss on the cheek before going to perch on the end of the bed.
"Aubrey" Her dad smiled down at her and she patted the bed beside her so he could sit. "I know I was hard on you when you first told me you were pregnant and how you would've get through it but I know you're the strongest girl I know" Aubrey wrapped her arm around her dad's waist and rested her head on his shoulder.
"I love you, dad"
"I love you too, Aubrey. You know what this reminds me of?" He asked and Aubrey shrugged. "Do you remember when you were a little girl and how you wouldn't go to sleep until you got a goodnight kiss and cuddle from your daddy?" Aubrey turned her head more into her father'a shoulder.
"And even so, I wouldn't let you leave so you sat like this with me until I fell asleep. Yeah, I remember."
"The day you were born was the best day of my life. I was over joyed with the fact that I had a little girl and now that you have your own just shows that you're all grown up but you will always be my little angel." A few tears managed to escape from Aubrey's eyes as she listened to her father'a words.
Even Jesse found tears in his eyes as he watched the woman he loved the most interact with her father in a way that he could see himself and Ellie interacting in the future. He dropped his head and wiped the tears away before lifting his he's again to find Aubrey's father walking towards him.
"And Jesse" Jesse stood up.
"Sir?"
"You're not the boy I thought you were and you've grown into a young man that is a perfect match for my daughter, so...no hard feelings?" Mr Posen reached out his hand and Jesse slowly took it.
"Of course sir, no hard feelings" And in that moment, Aubrey knew that she had a great life ahead of her.
Three Years Later
Aubrey and Jesse's life was going great, they had a perfectly healthy and beautiful daughter that was now three years of age, Aubrey was on her way to becoming a teacher and Jesse had opened up his own little music store in town.
Jesse peaked into the kitchen and just as he thought, Aubrey was busying herself with the dishes. He quietly crossed the living room and kneeled behind his three year old daughter who was playing with her doll's house.
"Ellie, princess, do you wanna make mommy smile really really really big?" Jesse whispered, making the little blonde girl whip her head around.
"Yeah!" She exclaimed but Jesse pressed his finger to his lips.
"Shh you have to be quiet though, c'mere" He motioned with his hand and she leaned in so he could whisper in her ear. After hearing her dad's instructions, Ellie pulled herself up and walked though to the kitchen, clinging onto Aubrey's leg.
"Hello, baby girl" Aubrey bent down and lifted Ellie onto her hip.
"Mommy?" She asked.
"Yes, princess?" Aubrey replied, tucking a strand of her daughter's hair behind her ear.
"Do you...do-" She couldn't finish her sentence because she was too fascinated with her finger that was playing with Aubrey's hair.
"Do I what, sweetheart?" Aubrey pushed, gently removing her hair from Ellie's hand to grab her attention again.
"Do you love daddy?"
"Of course I love your daddy" Aubrey giggled.
"Well, will-will you marry him?" Aubrey blinked multiple times at her daughter, trying to take in what she had just said.
"I-" Aubrey turned around to see where the said man was and sure enough he was down on one knee behind her, holding open a small black box with a beautiful ring inside. "Yes!" Aubrey blurted out to him.
"It's not me asking the question" he smirked and Aubrey turned to Ellie.
"Of course I'll marry your daddy" She said, placing a kiss on the three year old's cheek which cause her to giggle.
"Ellie, here" Jesse stood up and handed Ellie the ring "put it on mommy's finger" he instructed, guiding her little hand and allowing her to slide it on Aubrey's ring finger.
"I love you so much" Aubrey wrapped her free arm around Jesse's neck and pulled him in for a kiss despite her daughter making noises out of disgust.
"Who would of thought that your first love would end up being your one and only"
