Monroe and Rosalee hurried up the walk to Nick's house. They had come to tell him the news about Juliette's condition, but it was apparent that there had been a struggle.

Monroe was instantly on alert. It didn't smell right. Before he could voice these thoughts, he was pinned to the floor by some crazed looking brunette holding a knife.

He woged out and struggled with her until Nick pulled her off.

"Don't hurt him," Nick was saying as Monroe got to his feet.

"He's a Blutbad," she said, struggling to get past Nick.

"Yeah, and Rosalee's a Fuachsbau, they're both my friends," Nick said.

"Who's this crazy bitch?" Monroe snarled. Rosalee stepped between them as Nick did the same.

"She's.., my mother," he answered.

Monroe stopped advancing, shocked by his words. This couldn't be. Nick's parents were long dead.

"I can't believe what I am hearing," Kelly said. "You're friends with them?"

"And we're friends with him," Rosalee said.

"Yeah, it took a little getting used to for us too," Monroe cracked.

"Yeah, and Monroe is your son-in-law, so please stop trying to kill him and let me talk," Nick snapped, holding Kelly back.

"Dude," Monroe spoke up. "I thought you said…, I mean, isn't she supposed to be, you know, not so alive?"

"That's what we thought," Nick replied. "It's a long story. Do you have any news?"

Monroe watched Kelly as Nick and Rosalee talked. She was looking at him as though he had devoured Katie right in front of her but she kept her distance. He thought maybe he should say something, but what does one say to their long lost, presumed dead mother-in-law?

His phone buzzed. He didn't want to take his eyes off Kelly, in case she decided to attack again but it could be Katie.

It was Hap.

Suddenly his heart was pounding for reasons other than the second Grimm, possibly his mother-in-law, in the room.

"Nick, I need to get back to Kate," he said.

For just a moment it seemed, Kelly softened. She looked like she wanted to say something but just couldn't bring herself to talk to Monroe.

"Is she okay?" Nick asked.

Monroe shrugged. "Hap just texted me to come home, but if it was really serious, I'm sure he would have called me. I'll call him when I get outside and keep you updated."

"Definitely," Rosalee added. "And I'll let you know when the medicine is ready."

Nick nodded as he walked Rosalee out. Monroe took another wary look at Kelly.

"Kind of nice to meet you, I guess," he said, backing out of the room. "No offense, Man, but your mom scares the crap out me," he told Nick.

"Listen, I know it's a lot to ask, but don't say anything to Katie just yet," he replied. "I want to figure out if…, this is all for real before we tell her. At least for now."

"No problem. I am supposed to be keeping her stress levels low. Dead relatives reappearing don't seem low stress. I don't think she would believe me anyway." He followed Rosalee out to his car.

"Hap's not my husband," Katie said to Reid. "He is my very good friend. Eddie is helping Nick."

Suddenly she felt weak and tired. "Hap." She reached her hand out to him.

Before she could finish her sentence, Hap picked her up and carried her back to the sofa.

"Are you okay?" Hap asked. "Stupid question. Are you okay, you know, baby-wise?"

She nodded. "Just felt weak. I'll be fine. Would you call Eddie?"

"I'm on it."

Reid stood awkwardly in the doorway to the den.

Katie looked at him, still trying to decide if it was real or some Hexenbiest trick. She struggled with what to say next. She had so many questions and so many things to say.

"Daddy…, I…, where do I start?" She asked.

"You could ask me to sit down," Reid replied with a smile.

"Right," she said. She motioned to the chair beside her.

"How are you, Katie? I mean, really." He sat down beside her.

"You mean, other than the fact that my dead father is the one asking?" she quipped.

"That's what I mean." Reid smiled. "Come on. Let me have it. Yell. Scream. Ask me a question. Aren't you the little girl who woke up asking me questions and went to bed asking me questions?"

"Why?" It was the main thing screaming in her mind. Why had they left? Why did they fake their death? Why had it taken so long to come back for them? Why didn't they take her and Nick with them and why had they never prepared them for the life they would face?"

Reid took a deep breath. "We thought we had no choice."

"No choice but to fake your death? How does that even become a choice?" Katie asked.

"We wanted to protect you and Nick. The Verrat had found us," he replied.

"The Verrat? But, they wouldn't want you. Surely, Mom and Aunt Marie…,"

"I was the one they wanted," he said. "Or rather, I had what they wanted."

Katie looked at him, confused. If he wasn't Wesen or Grimm, then the Verrat would have no interest in him.

"Katie, I'm a Grimm."

"What?!" Katie exclaimed. "But you never went out with Mom or Aunt Marie."

"I am a Grimm, but I'm not an Enforcer like they are. I had another task. My family was tasked with keeping certain magical objects protected. In my case, it was the Coins of Zanthos," Reid explained. "Do you know what those are?"

She nodded. "Nick told me. But how did you do it? I mean, we had a funeral. I saw them bury you."

Reid shook his head. "No, Sweetie, it wasn't us. Unfortunately, it was friends of your mother's family. We were going to run. Just for a while. Lead them out of town, then double back and get you kids when things weren't so dangerous. Kelly's friends were in on the plan. They agreed to take our car and head one way, then when they were followed, we would head the other direction. We never meant for them to die. The car accident was an accident, but we weren't in it."

"But, wouldn't the police, the department you worked for, know it wasn't you?" Katie asked. "I know there was a fire, but wouldn't they check dental records?"

"They thought they had killed two Grimms."

"So they cut off their heads," Katie said.

Reid nodded. "And that same night, they tried to take you and Nick. Mike Blackmon and the department didn't know anything about me, and they never put together that his house just happened to be broken into the same night as he took you and Nick in until Marie could come for you. When we heard that, we decided it was best to let everyone, including you kids believe we were dead. We thought if we were gone, the Verrat would have no more interest in you and Nicky."

"So Mom is alive, too?" Katie asked.

"She is. She went to talk to Nick," Reid replied.

Hap had been standing in the doorway, listening, ready to woge if necessary, but so far, Katie didn't seem to be in any danger. At the sound of a car in the drive, he hurried to open the door.

"Dude," he said as Monroe and Rosalee stepped up on the porch.

"Where's Katie?" Monroe asked, all but pushing past him. He came to stop when he saw Katie talking to the older man. She had the same confused, stricken look on her face that Nick had had earlier.

"Katie, what's going?" He asked, never taking his eyes off Reid.

Katie took a deep breath. "Eddie, this Reid Burkhardt. My father."
