Most of you have been wondering when the action is going to start. I can promise you that there will be action in this story, but for right though it's of depressing and slow since Rose and Dimitri are still trying to forgive the ones they love. But, don't worry it gets better and better! :)
Chapter 13:
(Eddie P.O.V)
Sitting on the wooden floor with boxes and boxes of old, dusty stuff around me. Light from outside shine through the stain glass window above an old, broken pew. Face in hands, mind swimming in thoughts. Brain pounding against my skull while my body rocks back and forth.
Too many unanswered questions popping up left and right. To many horrible memoires coming out of their hiding place. Too many people I'm so afraid of losing. Hearing light footsteps coming my way, I sneaked a peak t the approaching figure.
Long, dark brown curls with hazel eyes starring at me worriedly. Small, but well-built frame with a baby stomach. If you don't know her personally, you could mistake her as an innocence person. Me being her older brother, I knew better than to her judge her.
Rose slowly sat down next to me, hands on her stomach as she breathes in and out. It's a long walk to from the guardian apartments to the church. Scooting closer, I wrapped my arm her shoulders. We both been through a lot together and here we are. Both still alive, both dealing with a lot of things. Ever since we were born, our lives have been nothing, but chaos.
"The party's at my apartment," Rose said, breaking the silence. "So, why are you here?"
Even though she knew the answer already, Rose still wanted to hear me say it.
I let out a deep sigh. "I'm not really in the partying type mood right now."
With everything that's going on, partying is the last thing on my mind.
"Then why don't you tell me what's on your mind?"
"Well for starters...my own father didn't want me to go with him and the other guardians to Vegas, but he let Dimitri go even though you guys are still on your honeymoon," I began, getting worked up. "Sec-"
"Our honeymoon ending the minute you and Lissa dropped the bomb on us," Rose corrected as nicely as possible. "Sorry."
"No, it's fine. I should of known."
Now I feel even more guilty than before. I can't believe I interrupted my little sister's honeymoon. What kind of big brother am I?
Rose looked up at me with a small smile on her face. "What else is on your mind?"
I have a lot on my mind. Taking a deep breathe, I told Rose everything and I mean everything that's on my mind. I didn't care about her judging me because I knew Rose will never really judge me. Playfully yes, seriously no.
Not once did she interrupt me or anything while I poured my heart out to her. I had so much on my mind that I didn't know half the stuff I was saying, I didn't care though. All I cared about was getting it out of me and into the open air to someone I love and trust.
"Do you regret telling..." I still couldn't dare saying his name after what happened. "...him what Dimitri told you about the Strigoi being in Spokane, Washington?"
There was a flash of pain her eyes, a pain we will both share for as long as we live. Meeting my eyes with her hazel ones, she gave me a small nod.
"I regret it everyday," Rose whispered. "I was angry at Dimitri, so I thought by telling him...I don't know? I was just so angry that...I wish Dimitri never told me. If he didn't then he would still be alive."
Rose blames herself just as I blame myself for his death. He asked me if I could with him, I should of said no. I should never agreed to go along with his dangerous mission.
I wonder what life would be like if Dimitri hadn't told Rose. He would still be alive and crushing on Rose. I wouldn't feel guilty about saying his name. I wouldn't feel pain every time a memory of us surfaced.
Flashback:
"Hey Mase!" I called, running toward my best friend. "Some guys and I are going to-" I stopped myself mid-sentence. Seeing how unhappy he looks. "What's up, man?"
Mason just shook his head as he kept walking in the direction I came from. He mumbled something under his breathe, but I couldn't make out any words.
"I can't understand your mumbling," I told him. "So why don't we head on down to the swimming hole and you can tell me what makes you angry."
Grabbing my arm, Mason stopped me. Turning to look at him, I saw angry flash through his eyes. I wonder what's wrong?
"I don't want to go to the swim hole, Eddie," he finally said. "I need to tell you something important."
Nodding my head, I followed Mason to our room. What's so important that got him all worked up? I guess I'll find out when we get to our room. It was a silent walk, neither of us said a word as came closer to our destination.
"Do you have your key?" Mason asked, turning to look at me.
Digging in my pockets, I pulled out my room key. Handing it to him, Mason opened the door.
"Now are you going to tell me what's getting you so worked up?" I asked while the shutting the door behind me. "Seriously, Mase. What's wrong? Is it about Rose?
Knowing that something probably went down between the two, it's my job to them together. Apparently those were the wrong questions to ask him because sooner or later Mason launched into his story about he ran into Rose and everything up from there.
"Can you believe the guardians aren't doing anything about it?" Mason exclaimed, pacing through our room. "I mean they know where the Strigoi are, but they aren't going after them. They're just sitting around or as they call it being careful! They're going to wish they weren't so careful after those monsters kill another family!"
"How dose Rose feel about this?" I asked, sitting on one the one beds. "She can't be alright with this."
"She thinks I'm dumb for wanting to help out."
Dumb. Since when did Rose think helping is dumb. I mean she saw what the Strigoi did.
"What do you suppose we do?" I asked, looking at my best friend.
"We're going to Spokane in search for the Strigoi," he answered, stopping in front of me.
"Just you and me?"
"No, I mean we can ask Mia if she wants to come along."
"Why would Mia want to come with us?"
Mason looked at me like I should already the answer to my own question. When I didn't say anything, he sighed.
"To get revenge because they killed her mother," he answered. "Plus, we need someone who can compel the guardians on watch to let us through the gate."
End of Flashback:
Closing my eyes tightly, I didn't want to remember what happened next. Knowing that no matter what I do, he's never going to come back. I lost him forever and it's all my fault.
"Eddie," Rose's voice brought me back to the present day. "Were you thinking about what happened?"
Still keeping my eyes closed, I gave her a small nod. I didn't trust my voice to answer her after the memory I just relived. I should of said no. I should of talked him out of it. I should of...would it have made a difference?
I guess I would never know. If you ask me what my biggest regret is, I would say that agreeing with him to go to Spokane to kill Strigoi is at the top of my list.
"What do you say we stop feeling sorry for ourselves and get back to the party," Rose said cheerfully. "If you can even call it a party."
Laughing, I finally opened my eyes to see my little sister smiling up at me. "It's more like a family gathering than a party."
"Yeah, you're right. Even though not all of our family is there-"
"Even if they're not there, they still would want us to be happy and enjoy the time we have with the ones we love."
Wow, I wonder where that came from? Getting on my feet, I helped Rose stand up. I jumped in front of her just as boxes came crashing down on us one by one.
"Eddie!" Rose yelled, falling to the ground.
Shoving boxes away, I looked around for Rose. Not being able to find her, I started panicking.
"Rose! Rose, where are you?" I called, moving boxes out of my way. "Rose!"
"Over here!" the sound came from a little ways in front of me.
"Stay there!" I told her, moving as fast as possible to her. "I'm coming, Rose!"
Picking up more boxes, I shoved them aside. I breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of finding my little sister.
"Come on, we need to get out of here," I said, helping her stand up again. "We need to go the hospital to make sure you and the baby are alright."
Walking through all these boxes was very challenging with a pregnant woman hanging on to you the whole time, but I would still help Rose pregnant or not. After we finally got through the maze of boxes, we headed straight the hospital. Getting an okay from the doctor, we headed for Rose's apartment.
"Let's not tell anyone this happened," Rose pleaded, giving me puppy face. "Everyone is already worrying about what's happening in Vegas, they need to worry about this too."
I sighed. "Fine, but we're going to figure out who did this because it was-"
"-no accident," Rose finished, voice hard.
I love how she can be nice and sweet one minute then the next she's beating you to death. It shows how much she's grown in the last couple of years.
"Who do you think did it?" I asked in a low voice, not wanting people to over hear us.
She shrugged her shoulders. "Anyone at this court could of done it, but the question is who? Who knew we were in the church's attic? I didn't tell anyone I was going there to find you."
"Neither did I," I told her. "Someone must of followed one of us there meaning they heard everything we were talking about."
And by everything, I mean Rose saying she told him what Dimitri told her about the Strigoi after she promised Dimitri she would keep it to herself. Me saying we need to go to the hospital to make sure her and the baby are alright.
Guessing my thoughts, Rose looked at me with fear in her eyes. The same fear that's in mine. We all are in major trouble if this gets out. We need to find the person and find them fast before it's too late.
Someone knows about the baby & Rose breaking Dimitri's promise!
Have any ideas about who the person is?
Thanks(:
