Wild Orchids
What a perfect horrid day,
The sun is shining and here I lay
Buried in a closet, head to toe
"Where in hell did that key go?!"
I stomp across the un-mowed lawn
And give that shed a rattle down
And there it fell and hit my head
"Surprize! The hanging orchid bed."
Hoping once to escape the crime
Of wrecking the house every time
Silly me, the smoke tailed twit
"Open that door, get on with it!"
I grab my tools – the ol' shovel n jug
Choose a patch all weedy and snug
And getting down on my knees I go,
Singin' - "Dig and dig and sow and mow"
And when I'm covered enough in dirt
When watering down begins to hurt
I bend to scribble the earth now new
'Lilies, Asters – white and blue'
Proudly free to now squat; resume
Smiling and forgetting to fume
When startled awake, the doorbell rings
"Goodness Lord! What a mess - my things"
So I toss my apron 6 feet apart,
Grab the pen and cross my heart,
Sticking a note on the bread box -
'Key still in the orchid stalks'
A/N: Although the poem is written in a very light tone I have tried to use allegories to portray what i intended - Acts of sinning, repentance, penance and redemption or in simpler terms, loosing and finding yourself again. The key metaphorical objects include - orchids, shed, tools (shovel n jug), Lillies/Asters, apron, bread box, house etc.
