Jace POV

"Clary, if you keep on jumping up and down like that, I'm pretty sure that the car will not go in a straight line and we will drive off the side of the bridge. And I love you so much, but today isn't the best day for a swim in the Hudson River." Izzy said from the shotgun of the car. And she was making a pretty good point. Today wasn't that great of a day to swim a few day before Christmas.

"I'm sorry, but it is my first time ever going to a big city if you don't count driving past one to get to a small town. Oh look, there is the empire state building. Do you think that we could go up the building, Jace?" She said looking at me with big old puppy eyes.

"Oh course, Clary. Anything that you want to do, we can try and get it all done. But, I'm not promising that we can get everything done. Remember that we will be coming back for New Years as well."

"Oh, I bet that the ball drop is so beautiful in real life. I mean it is pretty in person, but it must be so much better in real life." She babbled on.

"Well I still upset because mommy and daddy aren't letting me go to see the Ball drop. You are all so lucky to be considered 'adults'." Max said making the air quotations over adults and everything.

"And you don't think that I'm an adult, Max. I'm just going to remind you that I'm going to be seventeen in about a months. And in the state of New York, seventeen is the legal age." I said.(don't trust me on that, I'm not sure what the age is. Too lazy to look it up even if I'm at a computer.)

"What ever mister high and mighty. Think whatever you want to. But at least it isn't weird if I ask for crayons at a restaurant. You get an awful amount s of looks when you do." The entire car started to laugh at this and Clary was almost as red i the face as she was in her hair.

"Well, the next time that you want help with those word finds or crosswords, don't come crying to me. Seeming as if is a childish thing to do." I said

"Don't worry Max, I will help you with that stuff. Jace is just being a meany butt. I'm sure that he will be over it by dinner and will want to join us." Clary said while fussing with Max's hair, trying to get portions to lay right, like Izzy would do for all of us when we were smaller.

Finally, mom found a spot to park and the lot of us came crawling out of the car. The only instructions of today were to stay in the city, don't get arrested and make sure that we were at Takis by 6:30 sharp. Izzy, Simon, Mom and Max all set off first to see Central Park. Magnus and Alec went to Fifth Avenue to go shopping, not like that was much of a shocker.

"Where would you like to go first? Honestly, I wouldn't recommend Chinatown because with the way that you walk and all of those people, you might end up looking a little bit thinner than what you should be. I'm talking like flat Stanley flat." I said. I honestly just didn't want to deal with people try to hustle me into by a fake Rolex watch.

"Well, I think that central park is very high up on my list. I just don't want to be following around anyone." she said shyly kicking the salt from the trucks around.

"Well, there is more than one way to enter and exit Central Park. Come on, with the way that I'm thinking of, we can end up by FAO Schwarz, that giant toy store that you have always wanted to see." Her face light up with excitement when I said that.

"Well, what are we waiting for. I say that we have a stroll through the park and then go and play in a children's store even if we are almost adults." She said linking her arm in mine. Her arms, well her whole body, are slight and frail. It was even more obvious when she didn't have long sleeves on in the unseasonably warm weather that was gracing us these holidays.

Her face was filled with awe the entire walk through the park. She couldn't believe how big this place compared and seemed to be to the rest of New York. Plus there was the fact of their was this giant retreat inside of the concrete jungle. She was taking pictures on the camera that I had bought her for an early Christmas present so that she could do this.

But other than the buildings and tree, her main muse was me. I wouldn't complain, I had been in front of the camera for most of my life for family pictures or modeling jobs to start earning my own money when my parents wouldn't buy them for me. I turned it on her a couple of times, just to see the sort of shots that I could get of her. Turns out that having her photo taken isn't the thing she is most fond of in the the world, but I did get her to corporate for a few shots.

Then she dragged my by my collar so that she could see if she could get a picture of the soldiers outside of the toy shop. And she wanted to see if she could get them to react to anything and I mean anything. She tried bribing, almost kiss his cheek and silly faces. When nothing worked it led to a bit of a temper tantrum outside with a few stares and the promise of an art set if the store had one.

The place was huge compared to the normal toy store. She ran and made sure that she saw every visible nook and cranny of the store. She really lost it when she the giant piano that was set into the floor. She begged and tugged on me until I finally gave into her wishes.

She kept on sliding up and down the keys on her socks. Almost falling a plenty of times unless I wasn't there to save her from that floor. Then she attempted to play a bit of Bach that I had taught her in the dorm room, but she kept on forgetting some of the notes. I helped her out by placing her feet in the right spots at the right time. By the way, I learned that her ankles are really ticklish, more spots for the tickle monster to exploit.

"Jace, we have to gets this for our kids when they are young. Could you imagine them running about on this and laughing at each other when one of them falls." And that took me by complete surprise that she was even thinking about stuff like that. I didn't even consider an anniversary present and she was thinking about kids, holy shit.

And to make it worst on my part is that I could see our kids running around. I see a little girl running about that looked almost identical to Clary with a tiny little crayon stuck in her like Clary with her pencils. Then a blonde slightly older boy chasing behind her, picking up anything that she seemed to drop. He picked her up every time that she slipped and fell. Then trying to teach her play piano, but failing miserably at that.

"Yeah, they would love that. But can you just imagine the lovely music that is going to come out of our floor." I said quickly to try and make up for my zoning out.

"Jace, we don't even have children and you are already smarting off about them. I can just tell that you are going to be the world's most perfect dad."

"Yeah, you have seen me with Max. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be a great dad to our children that are nowhere near being born right now. Seriously, I hope you aren't expecting them right now. See having a kid is like a nine month process before they actually get here by the stork." I said while turning her around in circles.

"Well no duh Jace," she said "And I'm pretty sure that most people know that babies don't come from the stork. I beat most of the kids in here know that nowadays. That was back when times were a lot simpler."

"WHAT!? You mean Izzy lied to me when I asked where babies came from. That witch, I can't believe that she would do such a thing." I said crashing my head onto her shoulder and pretended to cry.

"Jace, you need to stop because people are staring and this is a toy store in New York. I think that is saying something buddy boy. Besides, you have to buy a new art set. That way I can draw the beautiful view from the house. In fact I spot one now." She slipped out from under me and I nearly fell flat on my face. She off looking at the art sets before I could regain my balance.

"I found the one." She said waving one of the sets above her head like a mad man. Yep that was my girlfriend for you. I took the set from her and paid for it without a blink of an eyes on what the price could have been. It can out of my paycheck so it wasn't like I was blowing my parents money on my girlfriend. By the time it was all said and done it was ten till six and it would take at least twenty minutes to get to Takis. Now let the walking commence.

Takis was always as I had remembered it. It was a little bit runned down, but our family liked to call it well loved. Dad joined us half way through the meal, right after he got off of work and still dressed in his three piece suit. At least we weren't the oddest looking group in the dinner. Clary excused herself to the bathroom to freshen herself up, leaving the hand that I was holding cold.

Then the waiting was beginning, she must of been in there for at least fifteen minutes. We were all seriously getting worried about her. I mean she was a little slap happy and she could have lost all of her energy and fallen asleep on the floor. It wouldn't be the first time, once she fell asleep standing up while making cupcakes for the soccer teams end of season party. It was actually quite funny to see happen, she was just napping standing up. She never started to fall or anything, I just walked her back to her bed and laid her down for the night.

"I'm sure that she is fine. Knowing Clary, she probably just fell asleep standing up or slumped against the wall. And knowing the people of New York, they would think anything else of a some small girl sleeping on the bathroom floor." I don't know if I was saying this to reassure everyone else or myself. That is when the ear curdling scream came from the bathroom, Izzy's scream.

I bolted back to the bathroom and pushed the door past me as hard as I could. The bathroom was a red mess of smears and puddles along the walls and piled on the floors. Written in runny, red letters were the words "Looks like I was able to do something, Jace. Not so powerful, now are you?". Sitting up the writing was Izzy, makeup streaming down her face along with tears. In her arms was a barely visible amongst the red and bared skin, my fragile, tiny Clary. picked her up from Izzy and ran, I don't even know how I got to the nearest hospital without getting hit by a car. All that I did was run, I was running for her life.
