Idea 4: The Magic of Hope

"Attention to all passengers, we are arriving at Mitakihara Station soon. Please check for your belongings and make sure you leave nothing behind. Thank you for riding with us today and have a nice day."

The announcement made one of the passengers to look up from the book he was reading before turning to look outside the window. The scenery from the view outside was showing a city with many tall buildings which was his destination. He snapped the book close before putting it back to his bag next to him as he waited the train he rode stopped at the station. As it entered the station and stopped at the platform, the passengers got off from the train including this one passenger.

The passenger was a boy in the middle of his teen with messy silver hair and heterochromatic eyes where his right eye was blue and his left eye was green. He was wearing black long coat with red trims and red sleeves which he left unzipped, revealing the white polo shirt he wore underneath and a brown leather belt with black hand-shaped buckle with yellow trims which secured his navy jeans trousers to his waist. His shoes were white on red casual tennis shoes and to compliment his appearance further he was wearing silver rings on his either middle fingers, one with the image of a yellow-trimmed black hand, similar to the one his buckle, on his right hand one with red ruby that has a gimmick that allowed something from to cover the ruby on the left hand. He was also carrying a duffel bag on his left shoulder.

As he walked out of the station he took the view of the city with a smile on his face.

"So this is Mitakihara City Sensei told me about. It sure looks WAY bigger than I thought," the heterochromatic teen mused.

He then looked around and saw there were too many people around so he went to a nearby alley. He checked the coast one more time before swapping the ring on his right hand with a new one that depicted the image of a red bird before placing his right hand in front of his buckle.

"GARUDA, PLEASE!"

A red magical array that appeared out of thin air and several plastic pieces emerged from it and assembled to become a red bird. He then placed the ring on his right middle finger to the bird as it chirped happily at him.

"Good to see you again, Garuda," he chuckled at the construct before her reached for his pocket and retrieved two other rings. One was with the image of a blue unicorn and yellow octopus. "Now let's summon the others so we can get started." He said before slipping the first ring to his right hand and once more placed it in front of his buckle.

"UNICORN, PLEASE!"

Like what happened to Garuda but with blue magical array, several pieces assembled themselves to become a blue unicorn before the teen placed his ring on the small steed. He smiled at it before slipping the second ring and repeated the process again.

"KRAKEN, PLEASE!"

This time out of a yellow magical array, the pieces assembled themselves into a yellow octopus that was flying in the air as if it was swimming on water as the ring was placed into it.

"Alright everyone, listen up. Go and search around this city to look for the irregularity Sensei told us. Be discreet about and once you found it, report back to me. You got that?" the animal constructs chirped their affirmation. "Good, now go and be careful."

They all then separated as they did as they were told to. The teen smiled as he walked out of the valley and intended to look around the city by himself.

"Look out Mitakihara, Mamoru Hakuseki is on the town," he declared to no one in particular but himself. "I wonder if they sell doughnuts around here…"

After one hour wondering around the city, Mamoru was in foul mood. Sure the city was beautiful and interesting with so many big and tall buildings with their amazing architecture, but it was lacking something crucial so far. Every bakery he visited earlier didn't sell doughnuts at all. They often sold cakes and sweets, but none of them sold doughnuts.

Not. A. Single. One.

"Heretics and barbarians…all of them…" muttered Mamoru darkly with one hand on pocket while one was holding the strap of his bag.

'I can't believe you got worked over for a single food…' boomed an exasperated voice inside his mind.

'Oh, what do you want Dragon?' Mamoru mentally asked to his 'resident' snappishly.

'Hmph, I just decided to wake up and see this new city your thrice-be-damned teacher told you about,' the voice known as Dragon snorted. 'So far, nothing impressed me and all of these big and tall buildings look stupid to me.'

'Everything looks stupid to you, you overgrown fire breathing winged lizard,' retorted Mamoru as he waited for the lamp to turn green.

'I'll ignore that remark for now,' growled Dragon irately before he added. 'Like I said earlier, I can't believe you got worked over for a stupid bread with a hole in the middle…'

'DON'T YOU DARE MOCKING THE GREATNESS AND HOLINESS OF THE GLORIOUS DOUGHNUT!' Mamoru roared mentally at his 'resident' while outside he practically stomped his steps making other passerby to look at him curiously.

'It's just a stupid food! Why are you so angry about it anyway!?' Dragon snapped back at him.

Mamoru was about to retort when he saw something that caught his attention. On the top of a street lamp was a white animal of some kind with body that resembled the mix of a cat and a rabbit that has four legs. Its head was rounded with triangular ears that of a cat that has long flowing tufts which darkened into pink at the end with golden loops hanging. Its face has beady, unblinking red eyes and a mouth and it has a red square marking on its back along with long fluffy tail on its back.

Mamoru stared at the creature before the creature noticed it was being stared at and looked back at the befuddled boy. The white creature jumped from the street lamp and left, but not before looking back at the silver haired teen as if beckoning him to follow it. Mamoru promptly followed the white creature that apparently invisible to other people to an empty alley between two buildings before it entered an abandoned building. The creature then climbed up and sat on an abandoned crate before it turned to Mamoru, its expression was neutral as always.

"This is quite unexpected. To think that a boy could see me," it spoke using telepathy.

The first lesson his teacher taught him when encountering something beyond your comprehension was to regard it very carefully, more so if that something was related to magic. Magic, like anything, could make everything wonderful or downright horrifying with its power after all.

"Who and what are you?" Mamoru asked the (definitely magical) strange, white creature warily.

"My name is Kyuubey. I am what called as the Messenger of Magic," it answered with neutral tone with its expression never changed at all.

Mamoru quirked an eyebrow at Kyuubey's self introduction. If he had to say about it, it was falsely leading and presumptuous to those who didn't know anything about magic or just believed magic as a fairy-tale story.

"Alright, let's just say I believe you as this Messenger of Magic and all, what is your goal and why are you here?" Mamoru asked again.

"I'm here to grant wishes to those who can see me. Ideally, they are usually girls at the early of their teen. In exchange of having their wish granted, they make a contract with me to be Puella Magi or Magical Girls if you prefer."

Mamoru stared at the creature long and hard before he asked. "When you said to grant wishes, does that mean you can grant any kind of wishes?"

"That is correct. I can grant anything those girls wished for and all they have to do afterward is to fulfill their role as a Magical Girl."

Mamoru can smell something fishy from this creature. He wasn't unfamiliar with wish granting magic thanks to Sensei's book and that branch of magic wasn't exactly regarded in good light with how easily it could be abused, no matter how small the wish was. The most of common way to do this magic was by making contract with a creature of some sort to have your wish granted. The abuse came by how the being interpreted the wish made. There were many examples that made Mamoru shuddered in fear when he was just thinking about it. And there was also the price the one who made contract must pay for their wish and this also could be abused. Sometimes the price was way too high for even the simplest and the smallest wish they asked. If this Kyuubey creature was anything like wish granting beings mentioned in his Sensei's books, he has the right to be overly cautious with this being.

"Why do they have to be a Magical Girl in return for having their wish granted?" asked Mamoru.

"You sure asking a lot of questions," commented Kyuubey as it tilted head aside, as if it was curious. "Do you want to make a contract with me despite your difference?"

"I already make a contract with a devil, so to speak," the bi-chromatic eyed teen answered. He felt Dragon inside him who was silent during the entire Q&A session smirking at his words. "Besides…"

Red Garuda, Blue Unicorn, and Yellow Kraken then entered the building and they took their place on him. Garuda perched on his right shoulder while Kraken hovered on his left and Unicorn jumped to his open palm. "…why I would ask to be a Magician when I already am?"

Kyuubey didn't reply to his rhetorical question and Mamoru didn't bother to comment on the creature's silent. He then asked to his PlaMonsters.

"Well, did any of you find what I asked you to find?"

Unicorn and Kraken shook their head in negative while Garuda chirped enthusiastically, as if it had found something.

"Really?" replied Mamoru as Garuda chirped again several times. "Well, not exactly what Sensei asked me to find, but it could lead to whatever we supposed to find. Lead the way, Garuda!"

The bird PlaMonster chirped as it flew out of the building with Mamoru and the other two Plamonsters following it.

Meanwhile, Kyuubey just stared at where Mamoru had left with unchanging expression before it spoke. "How intriguing…" before it jumped of the crate and disappeared into darkness.

Mami Tomoe was alone for a long time as far as she could remember. Perhaps it was because of her graceful and elegant personality and she often called people by their surname followed by honorifics that made her somewhat distanced against other girls around her age. All she wanted was to have people who she could call her friends.

One day, her live changed forever.

She was going out with her parents during a rare moment where they could be together for a day when their car was wrecked in a traffic accident. She was the only one survived in that accident thanks to Kyuubey who happened to be nearby. She made a contact with it so she could survive, but looking back she could have used her wish to save her parents instead. Now she was alone, fighting against creatures that embodied negative emotions known as Witches as a Magical Girl ever since that day. Sure she had met other Magical Girls before, but the meetings with them weren't exactly pleasant as they eventually argued and fell out with each other. That was also what happened with her and her protégée, Kyouko Sakura.

Eventually, her luck changed when she encountered two girls who happened to be her juniors in her school, Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki. She saved them when they were unknowingly stumbling into a Witch's Barrier. After explaining what she was and what she did as a Magical Girl, both girls showed their interest to be a Magical Girl and looked up to her as their mentor. The lonely girl part of her immediately compelled her to show how it was to be a Magical Girl by taking them to her usual Witch Hunt, even if it was only a cover to make them accompanying her so she won't be so lonely anymore. The other part of her, however told her to not to take them along as it will be too dangerous for them and even her. Eventually the lonely girl won and now she was taking them inside this new barrier.

Mami was elated when Madoka and Sayaka actually was going to be a Magical Girl to accompany her in the future after they confirmed their wish. She was really happy, thinking that her lonely days will be over as she was going to have friends that will accompany her and sharing secrets with her.

It made her becoming too reckless, however.

She had realized this when she was stunned when she saw the new form of the Witch appeared from its old shell, with its row of sharp, white tooth bared at her. She couldn't move as the realization of her fate was clear to her.

She was going to die. She was going to die. She was going to die. She was—

"BIND, PLEASE!"

Mami felt chains wrapped on her abdomen and was pulled backward sharply just as the Witch was going to bite her head off. The Chains pulled her toward wherever it came from before she felt the ground by her rear. The chains unwrapped from her as a voice broke her from her reverie.

"Geez, you really should never take of your eyes from your opponent when they are not down yet. That's one of the basics of battle."

The blonde Magical Girl veteran turned to see a boy with silver eyes and bi-chromatic blue and green eyes. His hand was stretched to the side, holding a red magical circle—yes, it was definitely a magical circle, one that was complex and elaborate—which connected to the chains which was now retreating to the circle before it disappeared.

After getting her shock out of her, Mami spoke to the mysterious boy, "Um…Thank you for saving me."

"No problem," he replied as he kept his eyes on the Witch as he replaced the ring on his right hand, the one that depicted the image of a dragon and chains on orange colored gem, with one that depicted black hand print with yellow trim similar to his buckle. "Now stand back, I'm going to beat this thing…whatever it is."

"Only a Magical Girl can defeat this Witch. Please allow me to defeat it," replied Mami as she tried to stand up, but her legs were still shaking from the near death experience.

The silver haired teen spared a glance at her before looking at the pink haired and blue haired girl, hiding behind a doughnut like platform with a familiar white creature on the top of it.

"You can barely stand, Ojou-san. You'll just put yourself in danger again," he then turned to her with a smile on his face. "Allow me to be your final hope for now."

"Eh?" Mami blinked in confusion.

Mamoru stepped forward two steps before he placed his right hand in front of his buckle and it immediately called out.

"DRIVER ON, PLEASE!"

A magic circle formed in front of it as his buckle now changed into silver metallic belt with large buckle that has the same hand-shaped imprint with two switches on each side. He pulled the switch on the left side and the hand imprint now switched to the left, changing it shape from right hand to left hand as the belt sang.

Yes, it sang.

"SHABADOOBI TOUCH HENSHIN! SHABADOOBI TOUCH HENSHIN! SHABADOBI TOUCH HENSHIN!"

"What the heck? It sings?" asked the blue haired Sayaka Miki incredulously.

"Kyuubey, do you know who that boy is?" asked Madoka Kaname, the pink haired girl nervously. She watched her new friend nearly killed by the Witch and now a mysterious boy appeared to save Mami-senpai and apparently he can use magic too. It was understandable that she was pretty shaken now.

"No, I don't know," it answered as it stared on Mamoru with its beady red eyes.

Mamoru brought his left hand up next to his face and brought the cover on his red ruby ring down, showing the gimmick looked like a pair of goggles while the ring now looked like a mask made of ruby. He then uttered one word before he brought his left hand down to his buckle.

"Henshin!"

"FLAME, PLEASE! HI, HI! HI, HI, HI!"

He stretched his left hand out as flaming red magic circle passed over from his hand and went to his body. The magic circle didn't burn him, but instead forming a set of armor. He wore black long robe that has square rubies on his chest which were askew on the edges and sturdy armored collars that has squared rubies that were askew on the edges on his chest. Underneath that robe, he was wearing black body suit with ruby chest plate. He also has armored shoulder guards which were black with silver trims and was decorated with dragon crest. Hung on the left side of his waist on his belt and buckle which remained the same was a chain with spare rings. His hands were gloved with ruby wrist brace and he was wearing black shoes with ruby anklet on his foot. His helmet was silver with oval cut ruby face plate that looked similar to the ring on his left hand with metal strips to give allusion to a face and another pair of metal strips acted like antennae rising from the head with yellow square in-between.

Mami, Madoka, and Sayaka, as well as the newly arrived black haired Homura Akemi watched in shock upon his transformation. The blonde Magical Girl asked him in low voice.

"What…are you?"

"I am the Ring Bearer Magician, Wizard. Kamen Rider Wizard," Mamoru, now Wizard, answered as if he was introducing himself. "Now, it's Showtime!"

"Ring Bearer…Magician?" Madoka and Sayaka echoed, somewhat unsurely.

"Kamen Rider…Wizard…?" asked Mami.

Homura watched Wizard with narrowed eyes as questions flew in her mind.

'Who is he? Why he never appeared before? How can he use a magic like that?'

The Witch roared, looking not amused at his interference and charged at him with its teeth bared once more. Wizard just watched it coming calmly at him while Madoka yelled at him.

"Look out!"

Wizard then reached for the one of the spare Wizard Rings on the chain hung on his left waist before replacing the Driver On Ring on his right hand with the new ring. It depicted a dragon with a shield on an orange gem that looked like citrine. He flicked the switch on the right side of his WizarDriver, causing its buckle shifted to the right, changing its hand imprint to right hand and it sang again.

"LUPACH MAGIC TOUCH GO! LUPACH MAGIC TOUCH GO!"

The Witch, known as Charlotte, kept rushing at him before Wizard brought his hand to his buckle, causing a magic circle to appear briefly as the spell was cast.

"DEFEND, PLEASE!"

A wall of fire appeared, encircling Wizard and Mami as Charlotte crashed into it. It shrieked in pain as the flames burned its mouth and face in contact. Inside his fire wall barrier, Wizard swiped his right hand outward as the fire wall expanded and burned the Witch more. Charlotte fell to the ground and writhed as it tried to take out the flame that burned it. Wizard then used this chance to swap the ring on his right hand once again, this time the ring depicted a dragon coming out from a portal. He flicked the switch on the right side of his WizarDriver twice as the hand-shaped Hand Author moved twice as it shone and Wizard immediately dropped his right hand in front of his buckle as he cast a new spell.

"CONNECT, PLEASE!"

A red magic portal appeared again on his right side as Wizard reached into it. His hand seemed to disappear from the portal, much to the surprise of those who watched him. He then pulled his hand from the portal and he now was holding a bulky silver gun with half of a blade on the underside of the barrel and the other half was folded on the top of the barrel. It also has Hand Author attachment but was closed instead. The portal disappeared immediately after Wizard pulled out his weapon and he immediately aimed for the recovering Charlotte and pulled the trigger three times. The worm shaped Witch shrieked in pain as the enchanted silver bullets struck true.

Charlotte recovered and its clown-like face twisted into baleful expression as it charged at the Ring Bearer Magician and his Magical Girl ally. Wizard quickly reached for Mami and grabbed her by her waist as he jumped down from the platform to dodge the Witch's charge. He fired his WizarSwordGun again and the bullets once more struck the Witch's massive body. It roared in pain as Wizard landed on the ground before he jumped backward to gain distance as he fired again. Charlotte proven to be smarter this time as it twisted and bended its worm-like body to dodge the shots, but eventually useless as the bullets curved on the air and homed to its body. Mami who was still being carried by Wizard gasped in surprise at the amazing feat before she realized her current position and blushed.

"Um, excuse me," Wizard turned to look at her as she called. "Can you please let me down?"

"Huh? Why?" he asked curiously.

Mami forced the blush out of her face and requested to him. "I'd like to fight that Witch again. It nearly killed me because it took me off-guard. I want to return the favor."

"You sure?" inquired Wizard as she nodded. "If you say so, but don't push yourself, okay?"

"Thank you."

Wizard then landed several meters away and put the Magical Girl on the ground as Charlotte continued its mad charge at them. Mami gestured with the both of her hands as several muskets appeared around her while another pair appeared in her hands. Wizard stylishly twirled the WizarSwordGun on his hand as he turned to the blonde.

"I'll bait him to position and then you fire your muskets in succession. Ready?" he suggested.

"I am," answered Mami.

"Good then, because it's almost the finale!" replied Wizard as he surged forward, as if he was intending to meet the Witch's charge.

Everyone watched with various level of shock at his apparent recklessness, but showed it to be a faint as he stopped halfway and fired his weapon. Charlotte ended up swallowing the enchanted silver bullets and several more hit its face. It shrieked loudly in obvious pain as Wizard stepped aside and gave Mami a subtle nod, signaling her to attack. Seeing her cue, Mami gave a mental command to the muskets around to fire in succession just before she fired the muskets she was holding with her hands. The bullets impacted the witch explosively—although they were made from ribbons—and the successive shots finally downed the witch, but it wasn't out of it yet.

"Let's end it, shall we?" Wizard asked to Mami as he flicked the thumb on the Hand Author with his own thumb as it opened and the gun sang, a magic circle that shifted colors from red to blue to green to yellow to red again appeared on the end of the gun's muzzle.

"COME ON A SHOOTING, SHAKE HANDS! COME ON A SHOOTING, SHAKE HANDS!"

"Certainly," replied Mami as she created the largest matchlock cannon from the ribbons she summoned.

Wizard then placed his left hand over the Hand Author, looking as if he was making a handshake with it, as the gun announced loudly.

"FLAME, SHOOTING STRIKE! HI-HI-HI!"

The magic circle stopped at red as a fireball gathered at the tip of the gun's muzzle, right on the surface of the magic circle. Wizard took aim at the downed Witch, as did Mami with her large cannon.

"Tiro Finale!" shouted Mami as she fired her matchlock cannon.

"It's Grand Finale for you!" yelled Wizard as he pulled the trigger three times.

A massive cannonball fired from Mami's matchlock cannon while three large fireballs fired from WizarSwordGun. The cannonball struck first before the fireball following right behind it, each was hitting the Witch with explosive force. Charlotte let out one final wail before its body exploded in fiery explosion, leaving Wizard's red magic circle hung on the air for several seconds before disappearing.

Wizard twirled his weapon several times before he sighed. Behind him, the Magical Girl veteran also sighed, feeling grateful that the battle has ended. Her Magical Girl outfit flashed and she returned to her civilian form as she walked toward the place where the Witch was last seen and picked the black object on the ground. The weird atmosphere and place slowly faded away, revealing that they were now in a hospital hallway.

"Mami-san!" she turned to see Madoka and Sayaka running to her before the pink haired girl pulled her into tender hug, surprising Mami. "Thank goodness you're alright!"

Mami's expression softened as she returned Madoka's hug with equal tenderness.

Wizard just watched the scene with a smile behind his mask as he willed the transformation to end. A magical circle washed over him as his armor vanished, leaving him in his civilian identity.

"That's really a close one. You really need to be careful next time," said Mamoru.

Mami turned to him and smiled gratefully. "Again, thank you for saving my life."

"Like I said before, you're welcome," he smiled back at her before his expression turned serious. "If I can randomly guess, you must be a Magical Girl that made a contract with white creature called Kyuubey?"

"Yes, I am," answered Mami as she released herself from Madoka's hug

Mamoru fixed the white creature which was standing on all four near Sayaka's leg an indescribable look before turning to the three girls. "Just to let you know, there's a reason why wish granting magic isn't seen in a good light despite its wonders."

"What the heck do you mean by that?" asked Sayaka suspiciously. "Just who are you anyway?"

"I'd like to know that as well," said Homura as she walked to the scene.

"Ah, Homura-chan!" said Madoka in surprise. "You're free from Mami-san's binding!"

The black haired girl gave her a barely perceived acknowledging nod before she turned to the older blonde. "I tried to warn you to be careful when fighting against this witch, but you bound me instead."

"It's because I thought you're going to dissuade Kaname-san from making a contract with Kyuubey," replied Mami with tense tone.

"It's for the best," retorted Homura coldly.

"I think she understands what I mean," said Mamoru, gesturing to Homura and made the girls to turn to him. "Sometimes the price for the simplest and smallest wish is too high and not worth of it. To gain something, you have to give up something else in return. That's the principle law of magic."

Madoka, Mami, and Sayaka looked at him in confusion while Homura regarded Mamoru coolly before she nodded. "He is right. Making a contract with that thing is not worth of it."

"Then why did you become a Magical Girl then?" inquired Mami with suspicious look.

"It's not your business," answered Homura with a glare before she spared one last look on Madoka and Mamoru before she left and disappeared.

"How the heck did she do that!?" asked Sayaka incredulously.

Mamoru arched one silver eyebrow and whistled appreciatively. "Now that's interesting trick she got. Anyway, do any of you know a place that sells doughnuts in this city? I'm new here, so I ought to ask the locals."

Mami, Madoka, and Sayaka blinked confusion at his apparently random question. Madoka, being the ever helpful girl she was, answered to Mamoru. "Um, I think there's a stand that sold doughnuts on the park about ten minutes walk from this hospital."

Mamoru's expression brightened considerably as a big smile crossed his face. "Thanks! You're a life saver! Um…" he trailed off as he realized he didn't know their name. He only knew the blonde was Mami and the black haired girl from before was Homura.

"Ah, that's right! My name is Madoka Kaname. I'm pleased to meet you," the pink haired girl introduced herself with a bow.

"And my name is Mami Tomoe. It's a pleasure to meet you, Wizard-san," the older blonde also introduced herself with a bow.

"The name's Sayaka Miki. Just who are you, anyway?" asked the blue haired girl.

"Sayaka-chan! That's not nice!" chided Madoka.

"It is fine, Kaname-san, I don't think she means harm," replied Mamoru as he introduced himself. "My name is Mamoru Hakuseki and Wizard is my title. Anyway, gotta go. I still have to find my new apartment my Sensei told me, so…"

Mamoru placed his right hand which still has the Connect Ring over his buckle to cast the spell he wanted.

"CONNECT, PLEASE!"

The magic portal appeared next to him and he reached to retrieve his duffel bag and waved goodbye to the girls. "…I'll see you around!" He then walked to the portal and disappeared to unknown as the portal also blinked out of existence.

Madoka, Mami, and Sayaka stared at where Mamoru last stood before the older blonde clapped her hand together.

"Now then, shall we head back? It's quite an eventful day today," said Mami and her two juniors nodded before they left along with Kyuubey.

(LINE)

Mamoru was sitting in the living room of his new apartment with a paper bag full of doughnuts as he was thinking about the day. He took one of the plain sugar doughnuts from the paper bag and took a bite from it as he was having a mental conversation with his mental resident, Dragon.

'That thing we fight earlier, it's not a Phantom isn't it? What was Tomoe-san called it again? A Witch?'

'…No, it's not a Phantom. But whatever that thing is, it's not natural.'

'Not natural? What do you mean?'

'You already know that a Phantom is born from a person's magical energy tainted by despair. That thing is also born from magical energy tainted by negative emotion, but is somewhat twisted by an outside factor.'

'Then that Witch is almost similar to Phantom then, or an Inner Phantom, given how that weird space also gave off the feeling similar to an Underworld.'

Both Mamoru and Dragon were silent as the Magician was deep in his thought. He finished his first doughnut and took another one as he spoke out loud.

"Looks like I have one, long assignment ahead…" the silver haired teen sighed before taking a bite from his plain sugar doughnut.
