Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist.
007. Crime and Punishment
Riza is too slow on the draw.
By the time her hands are up, her gun is drawn, her safety is off, Envy is ashes on the wind and Roy stands, heaving, hand outstretched.
He has achieved his revenge, but Riza knows him too well to think that this is the end. This is not enough. Envy is not enough. He feels nothing.
She trains her gun at the back of his head and he understands.
He is resigned.
"Lieutenant," he finally speaks, "I'm sorry."
And he is. He truly is. He is sorry that he has driven her to this, that he has made her go to these lengths for him.
She flinches at his voice, hoarse and tortured, but her expression is clear.
"Shoot."
And though there is pain in her heart and much too much blood on her hands already, she complies.
She had promised – she will shoot him if she strays, and she will follow him even into hell.
At the end of the day, Edward Elrics carries the bodies of two heroes out of the darkness.
AN:
I was going to write about Ishval war crimes, but this happened instead. (Also it's been like half a year. Oops.)
