Leo

Explosions- Ellie Goulding

"Don't turn around."

"I will not."

"I mean it, though. You wouldn't want to see me naked or anything."

"You're right. I wouldn't."

Calypso stood twenty feet away from me, facing the jungle. I was in a lagoon that made me think of a movie I'd seen once. It was round and complete with a waterfall and leeches of every shape and color. Just like home, I thought, laughing.

I'd been washing off since it'd been two days from the last time I'd taken a shower, and I was pretty sure Calypso would start gagging anytime. She insisted on standing by in case anything happened, which gave me ground to make her feel as humiliated as I was.

"Calypso, I'm fine."

I waded to the edge of the water and grabbed the white towel sitting on a rock.

"I just want to be careful. Is that really a problem?"

Her voice was quiet. Wrapping the towel around my waist, I walked towards her and touched her shoulder. She stared at me for a minute, biting her lip and staying quiet.

"I don't want to be alone." She said. "I've spent so much time here, alone, and I can't- I won't let you die."

"Well." I tapped under her chin with my finger and shook out my hair. "I'm not planning on it."

"Did you make this?" I asked, taking another bite from the food. It was a slab of meat covered in tomatoes and herbs, with a piece of bread-like substance below it.

"No," She said. "The food fairies made it."

I stopped eating and stared at her.

"I was joking, Leo."

Her eyes sparkled. God, she was beautiful.

We were sitting at a table in her hut, which I was still so impressed she'd built. It had a bed, table, stove, and shelves. She'd explained how she'd built them all over the years with tools Hephaestus had thrown over, and that wasn't much. Most of the things were built with bamboo or bark piled on top of each other. The stove was made with bamboo holding it up and imperial bronze caging the flame and providing the stovetop where she cooked everything directly on.

"What kind of meat is this?" I asked finally, after thinking about it for a while. She smiled.

"Rabbit. Takes a while to catch, but is delicious."

I raised my eyebrows. "I'm eating bugs bunny?"

"What?"

Shaking my head, I shrugged it off. "And this… bread stuff?"

"Hermes brought me that, actually. It's Pita."

"Oh."

She watched me for a minute before I admitted, "I have no idea what that is."

"You'll learn to love it."

"Yeah?"

"Mm hm."

We finished the rest of the meal without much talking, only glances. Finally, though, after we were both sitting back after being finished, she asked me, "Leo, how are you feeling?"

The truth was that my body ached and my head pounded, but I knew she was doing the best she could with everything she had.

"I have a headache." I admitted. She smiled and moved to a basket on a shelf, pulling out a brown root.

"Chew on this." She instructed.

"What is it?"

"Ginger."

I looked down at it and thought for a minute before biting of a small piece into my mouth. She watched me chew on it, holding back a laugh.

"Not good?" She guessed.

"I tastes like I'm eating a tree."

"Good. That means it's the right root. I wasn't sure there for a minute."

She smirked, and I knew she was making a joke. It was sad, but it was still a joke.

"You should probably go to bed soon." She said. I looked outside.

"The sun hasn't even gone down yet."

"Well… You did almost die."

I swallowed the piece of ginger, wincing over the taste. "Come on, Calypso. I'm a big boy."

"But you have to get better, and sleep will help you get better."

"Calypso."

I gave her some puppy dog eyes, which she must not have had too much experience in, because she caved in almost immediately.

"Okay." She said dejectedly. "But you're going to be soon."

The food and the ginger helped. After a half an hour, I felt like a million bucks.

Well, maybe not a million. Maybe a hundred. But still.

We'd built a volleyball net out of bamboo, fish netting, and were playing with a ball she'd found hundreds of years earlier on the beach. We guessed it must've come from some island, or maybe Hephaestus had a basketball net attached to his door and missed, or something.

"Okay, so that's two to three." I said. "I win."

She groaned and jogged over to me on the beach.

"What?" I asked as she grabbed one of my hands.

"We need some hydro therapy."

She pulled me towards the ocean, laughing as we went. Her laugh was so beautiful. She was so beautiful. Her hair was tousled and thrown over her back in waves, and her skin looked gorgeously tan in the dark. A thin layer of sweat covered her, which to some guys might've seemed gross but to me it was so sexy.

She splashed me, snapping me back to attention.

"Everything okay?"

I nodded and grabbed her waist, pulling her down into the water.

"Everything's fine."

The inside of my mind thought, For Now.
