Unconscious she lay at the bottom of the stairs.
Steve came home early today since it was a slow day.
"Hey Cath, I'm home," Steve called as he walked into the house. Then he saw Catherine lying on the floor. "Oh my god Catherine, are you okay?" Steve asked panicked as he rushed over to her.
He tried to wake her but nothing was working. Steve grabbed his phone and dialed 911.
"Catherine, baby, please wake up," Steve told her as he stroked her hair.
10 minutes later the ambulance was there. Steve stepped out of the way so the paramedics could take a look at Catherine.
"Please help my wife and our baby."
"We'll do everything we can sir."
He heard the twins crying upstairs so he went to get them. When Steve came back downstairs the paramedics were loading Catherine into the ambulance.
"You can follow us sir, we're gonna take her to the hospital."
"Is she okay? Is the baby okay?" Steve asked concerned.
"We had a fetal heartbeat. We'll know more once we're in the hospital."
Steve was glad that there was at least a heartbeat. Steve loaded the twins into the car and went to the hospital. Once he was at the hospital he quickly grabbed the kids out of the car and went into the ER.
"My wife was just brought in here," Steve told the desk clerk.
"What's her name?"
"Catherine McGarrett."
The clerk looked at the board. "She's in exam room 3. That's down the hall to the left."
"Thank you."
Steve rushed to the room. When he walked in Catherine was awake.
"Hey honey," Steve spoke and he walked up to her and kissed her. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine honey."
"What happened doctor?"
"Her blood pressure was a bit low. That caused her to faint."
"What about the baby?"
"The baby is fine. There's a good fetal heartbeat and there are no internal bleedings."
Steve and Catherine both let out a relieved sigh.
"Why was her blood pressure so low?"
"We're gonna run some test to see if we can find out. But for now everything is fine, so I wouldn't worry too much."
"Thank you doctor," Catherine told her and the doctor left.
"I'm glad you're alright. It scared the hell out of me when I saw you lying on the bottom of the stairs."
"Yeah, I don't know what happened. I went to put the kids down for their nap and when I was at the top of the stairs I got dizzy."
"I'm just glad you and the baby are alright."
"Yeah me too."
Steve called Lauren to come and get the kids.
"Are you alright Catherine?" Lauren asked concerned as she stepped into the room.
"I'm fine. My blood pressure was a bit low. But I'm fine now."
"Okay good."
"Thank you for coming to get the twins," Steve told her.
"It's my pleasure. Don't worry about the kids, just make sure Catherine gets better."
"I will."
Steve and Catherine kissed the kids goodbye and Lauren took them back to the house. Steve sat down next to Catherine on the bed and gathered her in his arms.
"I'm so glad you two are alright." Steve gave her a soft kiss on her head.
Steve just held Catherine until the doctor came back with the test results.
"There's nothing in the tests to worry about. Sometimes these things just happen. It's common with pregnant women to feel dizzy or even faint. Just make sure you drink enough. And if you're dizzy don't lie on your back. You can put your head in between your legs or get some fresh air. Also don't stand up too fast, that can also cause dizziness."
"So everything is fine with me and the baby?"
"Yes, but we'd like to keep you overnight, just to make sure and you're blood pressure is still a bit low."
"That's fine doctor, thank you."
Steve led out a relieved sigh as the doctor left the room. He was so relieved that his wife and his baby were doing fine.
Steve had arranged that Lauren would take care of the kids for the night so he stayed the night in the hospital. He held Catherine close all night and his hand was on her stomach. By morning Catherine's blood pressure was back to in the normal region again, it was still a bit low but nothing alarming. The doctor did one more exam on her and the baby but everything was still fine so Catherine could go home.
Steve helped her get dressed and into the car.
"Hey guys," Lauren greeted them as they walked through the door.
"Hey Lauren," Steve greeted back.
"Everything okay?"
"Yes, Catherine and the baby are both fine."
"Thank god."
"Yeah thank god. Can you maybe stay here today? I just got called into work."
"Sure no problem. I'll make sure Catherine rests enough."
"Thanks. If there's anything you can always call me."
"I know, but we'll be fine."
Steve walked up to Catherine and kissed her. "Take it easy today, okay honey."
"I will, you be careful."
"I will." Steve gave her one more kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too."
Steve gave the kids a kiss too and left for work.
"How's Catherine?" Danny asked.
"She's better. She and the baby are fine."
"That's good."
They managed to wrap the case up pretty quickly. Steve went back home after he was finished with the paperwork. Catherine and Lauren sat outside as the kids played on their play mats.
"Hey guys," Steve spoke as she walked outside.
"Hey Steve." Catherine turned to him.
"How are you feeling?" Steve asked as he walked over to Catherine and gave her a kiss.
"A bit tired but fine."
"That's good. Thanks for watching them Lauren."
"It's my pleasure. I'm glad I could help. I'll see you guys tomorrow."
Steve showed her out and went back outside and sat next to Catherine.
"You really scared me yesterday," Steve told her as he grabbed her hand.
"I know, me too. I don't know what happened. One moment I was feeling fine and then I got dizzy and everything went black."
"You're okay now honey. We'll just have to make sure your blood pressure doesn't drop that low again."
"Yeah, I will definitely take the doctor's advice."
"That's good. I'm just glad the two of you are okay." Steve rubbed his hand over her stomach and felt the baby move underneath it. "I love you two."
"We love you too Steve."
They sat there for a while and watched their kids play. Just after 5pm Steve disappeared into the kitchen to get started on dinner. He looked out of the window to keep an eye on his kids and his wife. He was so relieved Catherine and their baby were okay. He don't know what he would have done if something had happened to either one of them.
Catherine wanted to help Steve clean up after dinner but Steve wasn't having any of it. Finally Catherine gave in and sat down on the couch and watched a bit of TV with the kids. When Steve was done in the kitchen he took the kids upstairs and got them ready for bed.
Once the kids were in bed Steve went back downstairs and sat next to Catherine on the couch. Steve pulled Catherine's feet up to his lap and started massaging them.
"Thanks Steve, that feels really good."
"You're welcome Cath."
Steve rubbed her feet and after while he noticed that Catherine had fallen asleep. Carefully he stood up so he wouldn't wake her. He picked her up bridal style and carried her upstairs. Gently he placed Catherine in their bed. Catherine stirred a bit as Steve put her down but she didn't wake up. He pulled the covers over her and gave her a soft kiss before he went back downstairs.
He sat on the couch and turned the football game on. He put the volume low so it wouldn't wake up Catherine and the twins.
After the game was over he locked up downstairs. He went upstairs and checked on the twins. They were sleeping peacefully in their beds. He quietly entered the bedroom and undressed himself. Catherine stirred a bit as Steve got it but relaxed as soon as she felt Steve's arm around her.
….
Catherine was now 28 weeks pregnant. She hadn't fainted anymore. She had another doctor's appointment. It was before work and Steve wasn't called into work yet so he went with her.
"My colleague in the hospital told me what happened. How are you feeling now?"
"Better. I'm tired faster but other than that it's fine."
"No more dizziness or fainting?"
"No, sometimes a bit dizzy when I move too fast, but then I would sit back down and wait for it to pass."
"That's good. We'll go see how the little girl is doing."
Steve and Catherine followed the doctor into the exam room and Steve helped Catherine lie down on the bed. Catherine rolled up her shirt and the doctor put the wand on Catherine's stomach. Immediately they heard the baby's heartbeat.
"She's got a nice strong heartbeat," the doctor explained. "Everything looks very fine. She's growing nice and big. I'm just gonna take your vitals now to see how your blood pressure is."
Catherine's vitals were good. Her blood pressure was a bit on the low side but not anything to really worry about at this point.
Catherine made a new appointment for 2 weeks from now on their way out. After they doctor's visit Steve drove them to work. Catherine was only working 2 days a week now.
"How was the doctor's appointment?" Kono asked as Catherine and Steve walked into the office.
"Good. The baby is doing very well."
"That's good. And your blood pressure?"
"Okay for now."
"Good, just make sure you take it easy."
"Don't worry. I will. Steve makes sure of that too."
"That's good."
Today was a pretty slow day at the office so Catherine just sat behind her desk catching up on her paperwork. She had lost track of time and was surprised when she saw Steve in her doorway.
"Ready to go home honey?"
"Yeah, just have to finish this report."
Once Catherine was finished with her report she grabbed her stuff and they went home.
"Hey guys," Catherine spoke as they walked into the house.
"Dada!" Kye squealed and he walked up to Steve.
"Hey buddy," Steve replied as he picked him up.
Kailani had made her way over to Catherine and Catherine picked her up.
"Hey sweetie." Catherine gave her a kiss. "Did you behave with Lauren today?"
"Yes they did. I took them to the park in the afternoon and they had a really great time."
"That's nice."
Steve showed her out as Catherine sat down on the couch with Kailani.
"Mummy tummy," Kailani spoke as she put her hand on Catherine's stomach.
"Yeah, your little baby sister is in there."
"Baby."
"Yes, your baby sister."
Steve watched his wife and his daughter. He couldn't help but smile as she looked at the picture. Steve put Kye on the couch as well and went into the kitchen to start dinner. Kye wasn't having any of it so he scooted down the couch and followed Steve into the kitchen. Since the gate was open Kye wondered into the kitchen. Steve didn't hear him come in so he was surprised when someone grabbed his leg.
"Hey buddy," Steve spoke as he looked down and saw Kye. Steve bent down to pick him up. "What are you doing here buddy?"
"Dada help."
"You wanna help daddy? Sorry buddy daddy is making dinner so you can't help."
Steve put Kye in his high chair and gave him one of the play books.
…
That weekend Steve and Catherine took the kids for a trip on the submarine. They sat by the window and watched all the sea creatures swimming by.
"Big!" Kailani yelled as she saw a turtle swam by.
"Yes, that's a turtle," Catherine told her.
The kids had fun looking at all the underwater creatures.
When they got out of the submarine they went for a bite to eat at one of the diners at the beach. After lunch they went to the beach. Catherine stayed at the towels as Steve took Kailani into the ocean. The moment Steve left Kye started crying. Catherine picked him up and tried to calm him down.
"Daddy is going swimming with your sister first then he'll go with you."
Steve walked into the ocean with Kailani on his hip. Steve held her as he walk in a bit further and crouched down so Kailani was in the water with her legs. Kailani loved being in the water. She especially loved the waves.
After 20 minutes Steve returned to the towels with Kailani and took Kye out into the ocean. He spent 20 minutes in the ocean as well before going back.
"They really love being in the water," Steve told Catherine.
"Yes they do."
They stayed at the beach for a few more hours before they went back home. They kids fell asleep on the ride home so Steve put them in their playpens. Catherine looked over them as she rubbed her stomach.
"I hope they'll be alright once the new baby is here."
"I'm sure they will."
"I hope so. It'll be different for them."
"They'll be alright honey."
Steve hugged her from behind and gave her a kiss. "I love you."
"I love you too."
They stood there for a while just watching Kye and Kailani. They looked so cute when they were sleeping. Steve and Catherine couldn't wait to meet their new little baby.
….
Catherine was now 30 weeks pregnant. It was time for another appointment. It was after work but Steve was still busy with a case so he couldn't go with her. Catherine sat in the waiting room until the doctor called her in.
"Alone today Mrs. McGarrett?"
"Yes, Steve is still at work."
"That's too bad. I'll give you and ultrasound picture so you can show it to him."
"Thank you doctor."
Catherine followed the doctor to the exam room and lay down on the bed. A minute later she saw her little baby girl on the screen. She saw the baby's heartbeat on the monitor.
"The baby is doing very well. She's growing very well."
The doctor took Catherine vitals. Her blood pressure was still a bit low but it was higher than the previous time.
"I've been taking it easy and as soon as I feel dizzy I sit back down."
"That's very good."
The doctor gave Catherine a picture of the ultrasound and Catherine made an appointment for next week. She walked out to her car. Just as she was about to go in the car her phone rang. Catherine didn't recognize the number.
"Hello," she answered.
"Hello, is this Catherine McGarrett?" A female voice on the other end spoke.
"Yes this is her, who is this?"
"I'm Beth Rogan from Hawaii Pacific Health. I'm calling about Steve McGarrett, is he your husband?"
