Hey guys. This is the chapter that I already posted, but apparently I forgot to post the chapter that goes before it so the new chapter is actually in chapter 7. I'm really sorry about this guys, but I hope that chapter will clear up some of the confusion.
"Naruto?" Iruka called into Naruto's room as he opened the door. He had already knocked and received no reply so he figured he could just peak inside and see if Naruto was still in the room. He was in the room lying on his bed with his face buried in his pillow.
"I said go away," Naruto mumbled into his pillow.
"I didn't hear that," Iruka replied as he walked into the room and closed the door behind him.
"Well you did now," Naruto pointed out.
"Yea," Iruka nodded even though Naruto couldn't see him, "but Uchiha-sama ordered me to make sure that you were okay."
"I don't care," Naruto said, but in his head he was thinking something else entirely. He was thinking about how much of a shock it was that Sasuke was actually worrying about him.
Iruka just grinned as he walked over to sit by Naruto on the bed. "What's the matter?" he asked as he placed his hand soothingly on top of Naruto's head. Naruto practically snuggled into the warmth of the hand and Iruka took this as a sign that he could run his hands through Naruto's hair. Naruto immediately started to melt as the feeling calmed him.
"It's nothing," he sighed into his pillow.
"I don't know what happened," Iruka tried a different approach, "but it's okay to be upset every now and again."
"I'm fine," was Naruto's only response.
"Alright," Iruka finally conceded. "Just know that if you ever have anything that you would like to talk about, I'm always here for you." He went to stand up, but Naruto caught his arm.
"Do you mind staying here?" Naruto mumbled into his pillow. "Just until I fall asleep."
Iruka smiled. He didn't really know Naruto that well, but what he noticed about the man told him that it was unlikely he had a very good support system. He probably always had to rely on himself. He probably never trusted anyone, and yet, here he was trusting Iruka with his back while he slept. "Of course," Iruka replied.
Naruto's whole body seemed to relax and his grip on Iruka's arm loosened, but he did not let go until his breathing evened out and he finally fell to sleep. Only then did Iruka slip out of the room with as little noise as he could probably make and headed straight back to his master's room. He considered waiting until the morning to tell Sasuke about Naruto, but he ruled that thought out when he realized that his master might be so worried that he would be pacing his room by now waiting for Iruka to report to him even though he had never asked the man to do so.
"Uchiha-sama?" Iruka called out as he nocked on his master's door.
"Come in," Sasuke called out from inside.
When Iruka opened the door he found Sasuke staring out the window, but it was obvious that he had only been there for a short while because he still looked kind of restless. "Are you feeling better now sir?" Iruka asked.
"Of course," Sasuke waved him off, "but I told you to leave me alone for a while."
"Yes," Iruka nodded, "but you also asked me to check on Naruto and I thought you'd want me to give you an update on him." Now Iruka knew that he had Sasuke's full attention. He didn't know what it was about Naruto, but he already seemed to be among his master's favorite servants. Iruka could only hope that it didn't turn out badly for either of them.
"Were you able to talk to him?" Sasuke demanded.
"He wouldn't tell me anything," Iruka shook his head, "but I think that after a good night's rest he will be fine."
"Is he sleeping now?" Sasuke asked as he looked back out the window. He was trying to look nonchalant, but Iruka could tell that wasn't really the case. "I need to make sure that he is well rested so that he can help me with the party planning."
"He is sleeping now," Iruka nodded. He wouldn't break Naruto's trust by telling Sasuke how he knew that Naruto was sleeping, but he could at least let the man know that he was sleeping. Put him at ease.
Sasuke relaxed immediately after hearing these words. Some of the stress faded away from his shoulders and he suddenly felt very tired himself. "Thank you Iruka," he said as he made his way over to his bed. "You can leave now."
"Very well," Iruka nodded with a smile. At least Sasuke wasn't so worried anymore and he would be able to get some sleep too. Iruka would be kept up all night with worry if he thought that either of the two young men that he was in charge of were not able to sleep because of the worries of their days.
