Hey everybody! I wanted to let you know I am still finishing chapter 4 for "To sleep is to be Blind"! This is a spinoff (and somewhat spoiler for the story, but not much!) I hope you enjoy, and sorry for being a slacker! Review!

L stared at the computer screen, his eyes trying to stay open, but, to no avail, they kept closing. Nobody else was here, as they were outside celebrating the Fourth of July for Shannon.

Obviously, this was not a Japanese celebration, but Matsuda had come up with a brilliant idea to make Shannon enjoy herself. L still found no reason why the task force enjoyed time with the little bugger. She tested his patience, and on many occasions, defied him.

Despite his age, L found himself jumping every time there was an explosion. It was quite distracting. They were only wasting time.

"Ryuzaki? Why don't you go out there?" Light had tried countless amounts of times to get him to watch the display, but L had refused. L was sure Light had just wanted to go watch the fireworks, but due to their "connection" they couldn't venture very far from each other.

"Ryuzaki, we saved a Sparklerâ„¢ for you! You should come out and try it!" L had always found Shannon's "puppy-lips" quite annoying, especially when he gave in. With a small sigh, he got up, dragging Light, and followed Shannon outdoors.

The show was somewhat frightening. As a child, L never got many chances to see such a beautiful show, and the realizations hit him hard. When Shannon handed him a Sparklerâ„¢, he gratefully accepted the offer.

"Aren't they beautiful, Ryuzaki? Mama always took me to see the shows, but I've never been this close up! How far were you from the shows when you were a kid?" Shannon plopped herself next to him on the sidewalk.

"They are attractive. Wammy's house never provided fireworks. I've never been this close, either." It was a quiet answer, and he spoke in a soft manner. His Sparklerâ„¢ had burned up, and a soft sigh escaped his lips.

"I hate when they burn out. But, I always remember that there is next year to celebrate. You should celebrate, too!" L wasn't sure how much time left in his life he could promise her, but he vowed to himself he would try.
