Chapter 14. Jail Birds Break...

Damon's POV

Damon inched the car foreword, searching the surrounding warehouses as he spoke into his phone. "Conner, are you sure it is this block of juniper?"

"Yes, for the hundredth time," Conner said. "This is the area where I lost track of the traffic cam images of the van."

"I don't see anything but closed businesses."

"I'm telling you." Conner said. "This whole think outside the radar really works."

Damon was glad that Conner was all pumped. However that couldn't change the fact that he couldn't find a lead anywhere around.

"Still Conner there aren't any lights on anywhere around."

"That's the point." Conner emphasized, for no apparent reason. "At this time of night there shouldn't be any energy usage. But damn," Conner said, taking a breath. "This block is showing a huge spike in power consumption."

Damon continued down the block. The area seemed completely dark and deserted.

"You are almost on top of it." Conner announced

Damon pulled to the curb and hit his head on the steering wheel.

"What's wrong?" Conner asked in his ear.

Damon looked up to the sign on the building. "It is Kimmie's ice manufacturer." Damon explained. "It's an ice plant."

"Oh gawd," Conner sighed "Of course. They'ed need energy to keep the ice frozen….I'm sorry Damon. I really thought I'd found a causative link."

Damon took a deep breath. "It's all right," he said. "We tried."

Then he realized that it was dark, really dark. Crap. "What time is it?"

"Seven thirty." Conner responded.

Crappity, crappity, crap. He had a date tonight with Rebekah.

"Conner look, I've got to get going, and you should go home and get some much deserved rest."

It sounded like Conner yawned from the other end. "There's always tomorrow Damon."

"Yeah tomorrow." Damon said as he started the car and put it into gear.

Bonnie's POV

Bonnie tried not to look down or feel her skin. Or, more accurately, her lard-covered skin. Even though Elijah hadn't done anything sexual to her, she still felt violated.

Maybe it had taken a little more than ten minutes, but Kol's words were ringing true. Elijah was the worst.

Then the metal door opened and Igor limped in, pushing the door cart with dinner. Bonnie's mouth watered just thinking about it.

"I'm sorry." Elijah cooed. "But there won't be any food for you…ever."

"Igor!" Bonnie shouted. "Look at me. Look straight ahead."

Of course, the care taker didn't look straight ahead, or even at her. Instead he spooned dinner into bowels. It smelled delicious. Even Kol was up, awaiting his portion.

"Damn Kol!" Klaus said. "You must be fucking hungry."

Jeremy started clapping. "Oh, oh, oh, its stew! Oh the wizard always puts such big chunks of potatoes in and the meat is so melt-in-your-mouth."

"Please, please, please Igor." Bonnie begged, sobbing, trying not to smell the beacon grease coating her body.

It didn't matter, though. Igor just plodded along, passing out dinner. He came to Kol's cell and leaned over to shove the dish into the slot when Kol charged the door slamming it into Igor.

The care taker reeled back as Igor's foot nearly lifted off the ground.

Kol dove for Igor's leg his collar chartering as it went off. Luckily Igor fell towards Tyler, and the rapist, he caught him holding up his waist.

"Hold him up." Kol encouraged.

"He's freakin heavy." Tyler panted, as he got zapped as well.

Still Igor struggled. Bonnie had to strain to keep herself turned toward the action. It was only a matter of time before Igor's foot came up and it was over in a fiery explosion.

Then Jeremy dove down, sliding his skinny arms through the bars, grabbing Igor's foot and planting it firmly on the ground.

"Got it."

Kol handed Jeremy a wad of the cloth strips. "Tie him down."

"On it boss."

Kol then started ladling stew out of the pot. He tried to hand on to Jeremy.

"No thanks, but the cupcakes spoiled my appetite."

Kol still urged the bowl towards him. "After you tie him up jam this into the gas pipes."

He handed another to Tyler. "Hurry before he starts the flow of the knockout gas."

Kol tried to hand some to Klaus but the rapist wouldn't take it. "What do I fucking get out of this?"

"Just clog the holes ass wipe," Kol answered.

"You've tried this fucking before," Kol. Klaus responded. "Do I need to remind you of the dire outcome?"

"And I've learned from my mistakes." Kol answered.

Bonnie certainly hoped so. Kol noticed that Elijah didn't pick up his stew.

"Elijah…"

Her captor just shrugged. "You only delay the inevitable, Kol. All I need to do is wait out your pathetic little siege."

Gas began pouring out of the pipe above Bonnie's head.

"No!" she thrashed against her restraints.

"Stop it!" Elijah shouted. "You'll bruise your skin!"

Like Bonnie cared about that. Right now she just cared about the knockout gas pouring out of the pipe. He was already feeling a little woozy.

"Elijah's right though." Jeremy said. "There's no way the wizards is going to open Elijah's cell door."

Kol grabbed Stefan's slingshot and handed it off to Jeremy. "Work on the cameras while I worry about Elijah."

"Cool!" Jeremy shouted.

Bonnie couldn't, for the life of her, figure out what Kol was up to when he went back to Igor and jerked open his jacket. There were rows and rows of c-4 blocks running down his chest. Bonnie thought she'd known what to expect, but that was a butt-load of c-4.

Ping ping ping sounds as Jeremy shot at the cameras. Of course, the kid wasn't very accurate, but he was enthusiastic, and had an unending supply of pebbles to work with.

Kol used Alaric's old bayonet blade to shave off some c-4 from the block.

"What the fuck!" Klaus demanded. "That shit is volatile."

Kol grinned. "Exactly."

Bonnie watched as Kol smeared the c-4 on the lock to Elijah's door. Bonnie's heart soared even as her head pounded.

Elijah charged foreword, snapping his shears. Kol had to back off.

Using the last of her strength, Bonnie kicked her legs out, catching Elijah around the neck. She squeezed as hard as she could. Given how greasy her legs were, she wasn't sure how long she could hold him back.

"Do it!" she yelled at Kol.

Quickly Kol coated the lock with the explosive. Elijah squirmed out from her legs and raced to the door, trying to wipe the stuff off but it was sticking pretty tightly to the metal.

Kol walked over to Klaus's cell and put his hand out.

"Fuck you!" Klaus spat.

"We all know that you have a box of matches from pyro day." Kol challenged, keeping his palm out.

"Why should I give you one?" Klaus snapped back.

"Eventually don't you want your door opened?" Kol asked.

Klaus hesitated for a moment, then went to his cot and pulled out the box of matches. At first he held out the box, then thought about it and removed just one match and handed it to Kol.

"To keep you honest." Klaus explained.

Kol turned, shoved a piece of cloth into the c-4 then lit the sheet strip.

The fire spread up the fabric quickly then ignited the c-4. A loud boom and clang of metal followed. Papa's door swung open.

Kol stood at the entrance with the bayonet in hand.

"You don't want me to have to fight my way to her."

Elijah bit his lower lip. "And if I let you have her?"

"Safe passage out." Kol offered. "But after that. I hunt you down."

Elijah lowered his shears and sat down on the cot. "Fair enough."

At first Bonnie was confused as Kol rushed past her then she realized that he was going to plug the gas pipe. As soon as the gas was shut off, Kol turned to her and cut her restraints.

Coughing and gagging she fell into his arms.

Holding her up, Kol asked. "Feeling at all grateful yet?"

"Definitely working on it." Bonnie said with a smile.

Kol led her toward the door. Elijah got up and tried to follow.

"Oh no." Kol said. "You sit and you stay."

Surprisingly Elijah folded his hands over his groin and sat down on the cot.

Kol got her out of Elijah's den of starvation, then pointed her towards their old cell.

"Clog the pipes."

Bonnie nodded, grabbed a bowl of stew and went to work as Kol headed to Jeremy's cell.

"If I let you out of this cell-"

"Hey!" Klaus interrupted. "You said-"

Kol held up a finger. "In due time Klaus."

"How about me?" Tyler asked. Kol just gave him a glare. Tyler sat back down as Kol turned to Jeremy again.

"You've got to promise to be on your best boy scout behavior."

"Promise." Jeremy said. "Pinky promise."

The younger man held out his pinkie. To Bonnie's surprise, Kol locked his pinkie around it and sealed the promise.

"Jesus, you fags!" Klaus yelled.

Bonnie stuffed stew into the pipe as she watched Kol load Jeremy's lock with c-4 then go to Klaus for another match.

"No way." Klaus protested. "My cell first."

Kol shook his head. "Not going to happen."

"You're that afraid of me?" Klaus pressed.

"If that's how you want to take it." Kol said then curled his fingers asked for the match.

With a loud sigh, Klaus opened the matchbox, got out one match and handed it over.

Another few seconds and Jeremy's door was opened. The youth skipped out.

"This is so much better than a-"

Kol grabbed Jeremy by the shoulders and guided him to Igor.

"Focus Jeremy. I need you to harvest the c-4 and smear it all along the edge of the metal door keeping us in. Can you do that?"

Jeremy saluted with two fingers. "On my scouts honor."

Damon's POV

Damon rushed into the restaurant. It was way swankier than he had remembered. He hoped he had enough in his checking account to cover the meal.

The lobby area was empty. No Rebekah. His eyes scanned the bar- no petite blond. A man in a tuxedo walked up to the podium.

"Sir, may I help you?" he asked not really sounding all that helpful. More like the guy wanted to give Damon directions to the nearest McDonalds.

Damon got up onto his tiptoes to look over the maître d'.

"I'm looking for…"

Then he saw her. Or at least someone who he guessed to be Rebekah. She looked just like her picture, only prettier. He should be thrilled she didn't look like Godzilla's older sister.

"Oh god," Damon breathed out. "She's cuter than I thought." He explained to the frowning maître d'. "I don't know if I can do this"

"Shall I make apologies for the gentleman?"

It looked like the maître d' was actually going to enjoy that when Rebekah noticed Damon and popped out of her seat.

"Damon!"

That turned nearly every head in the restaurant as she trotted over to him. If scientist could somehow develop a way to melt into the floor, now would be like a great time. With her coming toward him, Damon could do nothing else but go through with the date.

He put his hand out to shake. Unfortunately, Rebekah came in for a hug, which meant that he pretty much just punched his date in the stomach.

Awesome.

He tried to regroup, opening his arms up, but this time Rebekah was a bit more reluctant, and he couldn't blame her.

They settled on the upper body hug, butt-out variety of greeting.

Exactly how much more awkward could this get?

He followed her to the table, smelling her honeysuckle fragrance. They'd had some nice interaction online, and a few telephone conversations that were enjoyable. Maybe this didn't have to be like pulling teeth. Maybe he could put Bonnie out of his mind for the next hour or so.

"Sorry about being late." Damon apologized.

Rebekah shrugged a cute little shrug, causing the strap of her sundress to slip down her arm.

"I guess I need to get used to it if I'm going to be a cop's girlfriend."

Ah….and there they were. Right back to being awkward again.

Jeremy's POV.

Jeremy couldn't believe his luck, to actually be a part of the jailbreak, being Kol's right hand man. If this didn't validate his life choices, he didn't know what did.

He turned to Bonnie who, after clogging up all the gas pipes, had joined him in smearing the c-4 around the metal door's frame.

"Oh, I wonder how home health care has advanced in the last year and a half."

Kol approached from behind them and handed Jeremy two thin rags. "Run them up either side."

"Abso-freaking-lutely!" Jeremy answered. He wanted to make sure that kol knew that he had his back.

He turned to Bonnie. "Oh, I'm so excited! I think I might pee my pants."

Jeremy squeezed his legs together. "Wait…yes…no…"

Realizing that he hadn't leaked any out, he patted her arm. "It's okay. But when this door goes down? You'd better get out of the way."

Bonnie smiled, shaking her head at him. Clearly she didn't know that he wasn't joking.

He'd had a loose sphincter since childhood.

Bonnie grabbed Kol's wrist as he turned away.

"If you were planning on escaping, why did you let him have me?"

Kol indicated to the cameras, now defunct.

"With him watching what could I have done differently?"

Klaus nodded towards them, then licked his lips suggestively.

Jeremy wasn't sure if that was for him or Bonnie.

"Any more surprises?" Bonnie challenged Kol.

"Do you really want to know?" Kol answered in his typical cryptic Kol manner.

"Help Jeremy." he instructed Bonnie as he made his way back into the dungeon.

"You can't run far enough, bitch." Klaus shouted. "That I won't find you."

Guess the lip licking was for Bonnie after all…

Damon's POV.

Damon sat looking over Rebekah's shoulder to the road outside. It had started to rain and the slick pavement reflected the streetlights as if Monet had painted them. The sound of Rebekah's voice rose and fell, but he hardly heard a word.

"Damon, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry." he said rejoining the conversation.

"I said since you like football so much, I got us tickets to opening day."

Damon took a sip of water. "I like madden NFL the video game."

He felt bad as Rebekah frowned.

"Oh." But the chick was a trooper and regrouped quickly. "Well then, I know you don't like animals very much, but there is this amazing evening benefit at the zoo-"

"Actually," Damon said. "I'm kind of been taken by hamsters lately."

"Oh my." Rebekah said wiping the corner of her mouth with her linen napkin. Red smeared across the stark white fabric.

"A lots happened over the past few days, I see."

She wasn't kidding. Damon's life had been turned upside down.

"Yeah."

Awkward silence filled the air. Damon knew he should say something, anything.

It wasn't Rebekah's fault that he had bonnie on the brain. But he simply couldn't think of a single thing.

Finally, Rebekah cleared her throat.

"Wow this isn't going the way the online matchmaker said it would."

"I know." Damon said, hanging his head. "I'm so sorry."

Rebekah however, smiled and pulled out a piece of paper out of her purse. "Which is why we have our common ground list!"

"Ugh." Damon said pretty sure he couldn't feel any worse. "I forgot mine at the station."

Rebekah playfully hit his arm. "This from a man who, by his own admission is excessively attentive to detail and annoyingly too through for his superiors."

Maybe she was onto something….

Before he knew it, Damon was standing up. "I've got to go."

"Damon…" Rebekah said. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset-"

Shaking his head, Damon tried to reassure her. "No, you were spot on. I've got to go save the princess."

"Princess?" Rebekah asked, her eyebrow arching. "From your game?"

Damon pulled his wallet out and tossed out all the cash he had in his wallet. Hopefully that would cover the drinks and appetizers.

"No," Damon answered. "Look, it doesn't matter. I've got to go find her."

Rebekah stood, as well. Now all eyes in the restaurant were on them Damon was sure that the maître d' was back there somewhere gloating, saying I told you so to the wait staff.

"Her?" Rebekah demanded. "When did a her become the issues?"

Her pale cheeks flushed red. Damon didn't want to hurt her feelings any more than he had, though, so he stayed silent.

Rebekah though crossed her arms over her chest.

"I think after investing two months in an online relationship I deserve an explanation."

Damon shifted from one foot to the other. He guessed she did ask for it, and Damon prided himself on being as honest as possible.

"Um, okay." He started trying to find a good entry point to this whole sordid tale.

"I'm going to trying to save a woman that I haven't met from a serial killer that I'm not sure exists."

He sped up.

"And once I do, I'm hoping that the whole hero aura will keep her from noticing that I'm not rich nor considered classically good looking so that she will spend enough time with me to get her into bed, where my attention to her pleasure will convince her to stay with me."

Wow that felt good to get off his chest. However, Rebekah just stood there, looking rather stunned. What did she expect?

"Next time, maybe don't ask for an explanation."

Damon turned on his heel, then realized the epic nature of his quest.

He turned back to Rebekah. "But just in case it doesn't work out, or she's, you know, dead…. Can I call you?"

Well that seemed to snap Rebekah out of her shock. "No!" she blurted.

"Okay, okay." Damon said as he left before the maître d' kicked him out.

Bonnie's POV

Bonnie stood next to Kol as he held his hand out to Klaus. Jeremy flanked Kol on the other side. Klaus however, had his arms crossed over his chest.

"You going blow my fucking door next." Klaus demanded.

"And mine!" Tyler chimed in.

Kol just glared at the rapist. "Do you want a pinkie promise?"

Klaus's face clouded, but ultimately he handed over a match.

Kol leaned over to the two long, thin strips of cloth and set them alight. The fire raced up the fabric to the c-4 on the metal door. Kol covered Bonnie with his body as the explosion rang out.

Bonnie crawled out from under his arm to watch the metal door fall from its scorched frame.

Freedom lay just a few feet away.

Elijah burst from his cell, charging for the door, but Kol raised his bayonet and stopped Elijah dead in his tracks with a bayonet to the throat. Bonnie wouldn't mind a bit if Kol finished the deed.

"What did I say about sitting and staying?"

Arms raised Elijah backed away to his cell and sat back down on his cot.

"Blow mine!" Klaus insisted.

Why weren't they running through that door?

Instead, Kol started shaving more c-4 off of Igor's chest.

"What are you doing?" Bonnie demanded. "You aren't seriously going to let them out."

Kol shrugged as he continued getting c-4 ready. "A deal's a deal."

Bonnie pulled out her fragment. "I can't let you."

"Jeremy?" Kol asked.

The teen stepped forward with his pocket knife.

"Ok Bonnie, I don't want to hurt you, but…."

Bonnie turned on her heel and glared at Jeremy.

She wasn't afraid of anyone who licked frosting off his cupcake first because it hurt his teeth to bite through it.

Jeremy sheathed his knife and frowned.

"She's mean…"

After all of this, damn fucking right.

Bonnie instead put her metal fragment to Kol's neck. "Stop. Now."

Kol, though, seemed unfazed. "Do you really think that the metal door was the last defense against escape? If you think you can get to the surface without me, slice away."

Bonnie had ignored Kol's advice once too often not to believe him now. What was beyond that metal door?

The hallway was pitch black. Any manner of booby trap could be out there. And so far, Kol seemed to be the only one thinking clearly.

Bonnie pulled the fragment away. "I still don't see how letting them go helps us."

Klaus shoved a match through the bars. "Do it."

Kol however didn't take it. "The only way this works is if we have enough time to put some space between us."

Klaus shrugged. "Fucking fine. Make the fuse as long as you want."

"And have you light it closer to the lock? I don't think so," Kol said. "No. I need the box."

Klaus snatched his hand back and frowned. "How do I know you're going to light it?"

"Because I'm not a degenerate psychopath like you." Kol said. "Trust me; I am going to blow these doors."

"Come on Klaus." Tyler encouraged. "It's the only chance we have of getting out."

Klaus looked to Tyler then to Kol. "Fine."

He handed the box of matches to Kol. To Bonnie's and apparently everyone else's surprise Kol buried the cloth fuses in the entire stash of c-4 on Igor's chest.

"What the fuck?" Klaus exclaimed.

"Klaus," Kol said. "You really are too trusting."

He then looked to Bonnie. "And you aren't trusting enough."

He urged Jeremy and bonnie to the door. "Let's go." He said.

Kol only stopped to pick up the remaining weapons before following them.

"Um…" Elijah said. "Am I still to stay?"

Kol gave a nod and Elijah rushed out of his cell to join them. As he passed Klaus he announced, "Good riddance."

"If you're going to kill me, Kol." Klaus shouted. "Do it like a fucking man!"

Tyler begged as Bonnie walked by. "What about me? Jesus, I don't deserve this!"

Kol turned to Bonnie. "Your call."

Bonnie looked the rapist straight in the eye. "I was going to go easy on you." she said repeating Tyler's words.

Kol lit the fuses. "The lady has spoken."

Then Kol wrapped some rags around the sickle and lit them, creating a torch. He held his hand out. Bonnie was grateful enough to put her hand in his and head to the door.

Klaus's POV.

Klaus watched the four of them disappear past the metal door. "Fucker get back here!"

But kol wasn't coming back, and those fuses were burning pretty damn fast. Tyler was on his knees, reaching through the bars, trying to get the fuses before they hit Igor.

"Wake up!" Tyler shouted to the caretaker.

"He's deaf remember?" Klaus pointed out. Instead of yelling Klaus pulled off his shoes and threw it at Igor, hitting the guy in the head. Which woke him up.

However, the guy started flailing again.

"No fucker!" Klaus shouted, knowing that it would do no good. Igor broke one of the strips of cloth.

"His foot his fucking foot!"

Tyler dove and grabbed Igor's foot as the fuses grew shorter and shorter.

"Hold him still!" Klaus yelled as he contorted himself to reach as far as he could. He grabbed one of the fuses and burned his fingers squashing the flame. "Fucking ouch."

Tyler grabbed the other fuse from the c-4 and yanked it out. They weren't safe yet Igor was thrashing around. It would only be a matter of time before his shoe came off the ground.

"Shove him this way." Klaus yelled.

Tyler did as instructed and Klaus put his arm out of the bars and encircled it around Igor's neck.

"Sorry dude. "

Using his other hand Klaus applied pressure until he was rewarded with a loud crack. Suddenly, Igor went limp. Klaus let go and the dead man slumped to the floor.

"Holy shit!" Tyler announced. "We did it."

"Yeah!" Klaus shouted pumping his arm up and down. "Take that fuck-for-brains!"

But it was down to business again.

"Tyler can you reach the c-4?"

"Sure but we don't have anything to ignite it."

Klaus snorted. "Like I'd really give ass-wipe all my matches."

"You mean you still have some?" Tyler asked

Klaus pulled out a handful of matches from his pocket.

"Oh, I am son on it." Tyler said gouging c-4 out of the blocks.

A sound came from the doorway. Kol stood in the arch leading the hallway out of there, a flaming arrow cocked in his bow.

"Like I'd ever leave your destruction to chance." Kol said with a smirk, waggling his finger.

The fucker let the flaming arrow fly. Klaus dove for the rear of his cell as the arrow flew true and struck Igor in the chest.

The resulting boom threatened to deafen him if it didn't kill him first.

Bonnie's POV

Bonnie watched as Kol coughed, running up to join them. She and the rest were around the base of a staircase. It sounded like the dungeon was collapsing on itself behind him. So he hadn't let Klaus and Tyler out, after all. Maybe she should trust him just a bit more.

Kol turned to Jeremy. "What do you think?"

The teen shook his head. "There's no way it was this close."

Before Bonnie could ask what the two men were talking about, Kol pointed up. "Okay lets head out."

Bonnie tried to position herself behind Elijah given their last interaction-however; the man waved his arm in front of him.

"Ladies first."

Bonnie tried to maneuver behind him, but Kol yelled from a few steps up. "Come on! Hurry!"

"There's no chance that the wizard didn't hear that!" Jeremy announced.

Bonnie took Kol's hand and headed up, but not without keeping a close eye on Elijah behind her.

They reached the top of the stairs. Kol indicated to Elijah. "You first."

"But-"

"Now." Kol insisted.

The older man edged past bonnie and for the first time since her capture Elijah back was to her. She was not going to waste this opportunity. Who knew how long Kol would stay alive?

She reared back and brought her metal fragment down stabbing Elijah in the back.

"Whoa!" Jeremy shouted. "Scorned woman alert!"

"No!" Kol yelled but Bonnie stabbed Elijah again.

She was never going to be captured by him again.

"I promised him safe passage!" Kol said.

"I didn't!" Bonnie explained, but he grabbed her wrist, preventing her from stabbing him again.

"Let me go!"

Kol didn't though. Instead, he gripped her arm tightly. "I only kept him alive to help us."

"Oh," she said as Elijah crumpled to the ground.

Jeremy made a quasi-run and Elijah but the older man was still strong enough to take a swipe at the teen.

Jeremy jumped back.

Kol turned her chin to him. "There're booby traps ahead. We needed Elijah to take the first round…a sacrificial lamb."

"Sorry." Bonnie said with a flinch. Again, if she'd trusted Kol just a bit more, they wouldn't be in this mess.

"Now someone else will have to take point."

They both looked to Jeremy who was dancing around Elijah, occasionally trying to stab him with his pocket knife. However Elijah was still able to defend himself.

"Yeah, okay." Jeremy said flying back. "I think I'm going to let you lose a little more blood there Elijah."

The teen must have felt their eyes upon him, as he turned to Kol and Bonnie.

"What?"

Damon's POV

Damon parked outside the ice factory again. He got out of the car and headed for the front door of the building.

"This was our last, best clue…" he mumbled to the night air. "And I just drove away…not very detailed-oriented, nor annoyingly through."

Something caught his attention. The window next to the door was cracked. That wasn't damaged before….

Damon studied the damage. It was pretty significant. "It could be vandalism…or evidence of foul play."

Damon got his phone out. His finger hovered over Conner's speed dial. "Okay, what exactly am I going to say? Phantom damsel in distress?"

He shut his phone again. "Screw it."

This was a solo mission. Damon got out his lock picking equipment.

"Hello?" He said knocking on the door. "Breaking and entering…"

Jeremy's POV

Jeremy tried to fight off Kol. But the guy was strong. Like superman strong.

Every second was another second he was closer to the door way.

"I'm too skinny." Jeremy insisted.

"I won't block anything!" He grabbed Kol's strong biceps. "Your bigger, you can take four or five hits before folding."

It did no good as Kol gave Jeremy a hard shove forward.

"Come on Kol, take one for the team."

Kol however. Held out the bayonet blade. "The next incentive will be a sharp pain to the kidney."

Jeremy gulped. Kol was serious. He was always serious when I came to the killing business. The only reason Jeremy was still alive was because he was still of some use to Kol.

Taking a step forward, Jeremy peered down the dark hallway. Was this really the way out? It looked pretty dammed eerie. The wizard was a freaking genius.

There had to be some kind of booby trap here.

Attentively, Jeremy stuck a hand out. Nothing. He breathed a sigh of relief.

Next he put a foot out then jerked it back. Hah! Nothing. Maybe the passage was safe.

"Come on guys." Jeremy said. "It looks clear."

But Kol held up his bayonet blade and even Bonnie had her metal fragment at the ready.

This time Jeremy put his foot down onto the wooden plank. He could feel something give underfoot.

He threw himself backwards as darts flew. Luckily he had felt the pressure sensor give- otherwise; he'd have several darts with green poison in him.

Jeremy turned to face Kol and Bonnie.

"Go ahead." He said pointing to his side. "My kidney is right there." when neither responded Jeremy continued. "Stab it, beat it, take it. It can't be worse than that!"

Kol and Bonnie looked at each other. Before they could get any ideas, Jeremy piped up.

"I think I have a solution!"

He guided them back down the stairs to the decimated dungeon. The place was a mess, but it had to have what he needed.

"I think I can find a way that Elijah still helps us." Jeremy said as he dug through the rubble.

To the side, Tyler lay with a piece of rebar sticking out of his chest. Poor guy. They'd gotten along pretty well.

Guess he shouldn't have threatened bonnie though. Good lesson.

Jeremy waved dust clogging the air. "This is asbestos, I just know it!"

Neither Kol nor Bonnie seemed very sympathetic, though as they picked through the rubble.

"This is one call to OSHA away from being condemned!"

Finally, he found what he needed. "Help me." Jeremy said.

Kol lent his strength and they pulled some debris off the food cart. The action nearly brought the ceiling down. There wasn't much holding it up.

Jeremy pulled his prize to the door.

Bonnie's POV

Bonnie cocked her head, the food cart? She really didn't see how the food cart was going to help.

Jeremy though, was psyched as he helped Kol lift Elijah to his feet.

"What are you doing?" Elijah asked slurring his words. She might have felt sorry for him, if you know, he hadn't tried to starve her to death.

"I'm saving my ass." Jeremy said. "That's what I'm doing!"

Kol stepped back from their jerry-rigged apparatus to keep Elijah upright while still able to roll the cart.

"I'm telling you!" Jeremy insisted. "It is going to work just watch!"

Kol looked about as convinced as Bonnie. "Stay behind us."

Jeremy fell into line.

"No, Jeremy." Kol explained. "I was talking to Bonnie."

"Oh sorry." the younger man said, getting out of her way. Bonnie fell into the rear position.

Kol leaned over, pushing the cart one of the wheels was wonky, and Elijah was a very solid man.

"Help me." he instructed Jeremy. But really? How was Jeremy going to help instead Bonnie pushed past the teen and pulled up alongside Kol at the push bar of the cart.

The wheels squawked in protest but the got the cart moving.

As soon as they crossed the threshold dart flew out, each of them hitting Elijah. He moaned as each one dug into his flesh.

As they got moving, they picked up speed, but then a stray dart nearly hit Jeremy.

"Slow it down there."

Bonnie eased off a little as they made their way down the hallway, inch by inch.

Klaus's POV

Klaus strained, groaning as he lifted a piece of ceiling off himself. He'd heard voices earlier-however; he'd been buried alive at the time. But now he finally broke out into the destroyed dungeon.

"That fucking bastard." He announced as he found Tyler impaled on a rebar.

"He totally worked you." Tyler chuckled but then chocked and gagged as blood streamed from his mouth.

Klaus dropped to his knees next to his dying friend. "Yeah he did, didn't he?"

"Man, I wanted to go out on top…if you know what I mean?"

Klaus was probably one of the few people who really could. "I do."

Coughing blood. Tyler struggled to speak. "Well, now you're the undisputed Boston stranger."

"Maybe…" Klaus said. "But you were the first. You were the original."

A smile came to Tyler's pained face. "Really?"

Klaus grabbed Tyler's hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Hell yes. I just was the grab'em by the hair in the park and put a knife to their throat guy. You were the one who perfected going through the laundry door and tying them over the kitchen table with their own hair scrunches. I just copied you…you are the Boston stranger."

"Thanks man. Thanks." Tyler said squeezing Klaus's hand. "So when you get out of here you're going to let the press know?"

"Hell no!" Klaus said. There were limits to friendship. "But I swear that I will live up to your legacy."

That seemed to satisfy Tyler as he rested his head on Klaus's arm. That's when Klaus realized that Tyler was the closest thing to family he's ever had. Too bad he was going to die.

Klaus gently moved Tyler's head over, then grabbed the rebar with both hands.

"Sorry dude, but I'm going to be needing this."

"No!" Tyler shouted. "If you pull it out, it will-"

Yeah. Klaus knew exactly what it would do. But he did it anyway.

Again, the limits of friendship-or even family.

With a heave, he pulled the rebar out of Tyler's chest. The man collapsed onto the ground, gushing blood, twitching as his brain function shut down.

Klaus surveyed the rest of the dungeon.

"Alright, now where's that fucking cannibal?"

Bonnie's POV

Bonnie looked at Elijah who didn't look too good. His face was a blotchy red and froth was at his lips. He'd taken at least a dozen darts, yet still wasn't dead.

They had made it through the hallway, but now stood at another doorway. What horrors were beyond the door?

"Let's get this door rigged to blow." Kol said.

Jeremy, though, nodded to Elijah. "Can I? Can I please finish him off? That would make five total."

Kol shook his head but Jeremy wouldn't let it go.

"Pretty please with a cherry on top?"

Finally Kol sighed. "Fine."

With way more glee than any one person should have, Jeremy pulled out his pocket knife and tried to stab Elijah.

"I don't even think I'm getting through his stupid thick skin.

Again Kol sighed next to Bonnie. "Just choke him, then."

Jeremy's face transformed from excited to horrified.

"Fine," Kol said. "Then take cover."

Bonnie didn't have to be told twice. She set up on the other side of Elijah. His body should protect her from any shrapnel.
