CHAPTER 14
"Johnny, wake up."
He opened his eyes to see Rosie smiling at him, her long black hair combed to the side. "You feeling okay?"
"Er...yeah..." He mumbled, sitting up.
Rosie giggled and kissed him on the cheek. "You should go home now. I'll see you tonight at Susan's party, right?"
"Uh...yeah. Thanks for lettin' me stay over, tell your mom I said thanks too," Johnny said.
"My mom is not home right now...she's at work..." Rosie said, sitting beside Johnny on the pull up couch, biting her lip and nudging him.
Johnny blushed. "Aha...y'know, I really gotta go...my family's probably wonderin' where I am..."
"Johnny...we're sixteen. It's not like we're little kids or anything...just kiss me, okay?" Before Johnny could say anything, she pressed her lips to his. "Bye, Johnny. I hope you work things out with your brother!"
The bed was lonelier and colder to Daniel.
"Where's Johnny?" He asked his mother. Mrs. Larusso sipped her morning coffee. "I got a call saying that Johnny was at a sleepover."
Daniel looked away and crossed his arms. He was praying to God for it to be at Ali's house—not at Rosie's house. Daniel bit his tongue at the thought of that airhead laying a finger on Johnny. HIS Johnny.
Daniel sat down and watched television, drinking a can of root beer.
"Hey," Johnny said, casually walking in.
"Where did you sleep over, Johnny?" Mrs. Larusso asked.
Johnny shrugged. "My girlfriend's house."
Daniel did a spit take as Johnny and Mrs. Larusso looked at him. "Er...sorry. I think this can is expired."
They turned back. "You two didn't get too 'frisky,' did ya?" Mrs. Larusso asked Johnny with a nudge as Johnny rolled his eyes. "Nah. I'm goin' to go to my room, Mrs. Larusso."
"Oh Johnny, dear...you don't have to call me Mrs. Larusso...just call me mom, okay?" She said with a smile. Johnny smiled back and went to his room.
Daniel got up and followed, shutting the door behind them. "Why were you at Rosie's house?"
"None of your business," Johnny said simply, sitting in his desk to crack open his english homework.
"It is my business," Daniel said, spinning the chair around. "You're my boyfriend, Johnny. And couples always have fights but they make up. I will never give up on you," Daniel said, kissing Johnny's hand.
"Hmmph," was Johnny's only response, even though he blushed. He pulled his hand away. "I like her."
"Hug her, kiss her, do whatever you want...but you know it won't be the same," Daniel said, leaving a soft kiss on Johnny's cheek as he walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Johnny turned back to his english homework, looking in the textbook. "Nature's first green is gold, her hardest hue to hold..." He read out. His homework was about writing poems. He remembered Ponyboy teaching him about writing poems. The textbook asked him to write a love poem.
Johnny bit his lip and ripped out a page from his notebook, grabbing a pen. "Hmm..." He started to write. "Kisses in the moonlight, set me free. Take me away tonight, your love is the key..."
Johnny got ready for the party. He put on a T-shirt and his denim jeans.
"You want me to drive?" Daniel asked, holding up his keys.
"No thanks," Johnny mumbled, combing his hair. "Rosie and her friends are gonna pick me up, so..."
"Whatever," Daniel said simply, wearing his flannel shirt and jeans. He walked out.
Johnny sighed. He walked out of his room and to the porch to smoke half of his pack.
Soon, a fancy vintage-looking roofless car pulled up, with Rosie in the back and a couple of her friends with their boyfriends, who seemed not to all fit in the car very well.
The brunette girl driving honked as Rosie stood up and waved. "Johnny!"
Johnny smiled and walked over, sitting beside Rosie in the back. Rosie pointed to some of her friends. "This is Genevieve, and her boyfriend Walter...this is Natasha, and her boyfriend Freddie...aaand over there driving is Rita.
Rita turned and waved at Johnny. Rock music blasted.
"So you're Rosie's new guy, huh?" Freddie, the boy with shaggy light brown hair asked. Johnny shrugged. "I guess you could say that..."
Rosie held his hand and interlocked fingers.
"You're probably way better than Rosie's old guy! Boy, he was soo stupid!" Genevieve, the girl with long curly blonde hair said, playing with the hem of her green tank top.
"Hey, now..." Rosie said, tilting her head. Johnny looked at her. "What happened?"
"Nothing," Rosie said quickly, glaring at him. "Sorry," Johnny said, looking away. Rosie scooted closer and leaned her head on Johnny's shoulder. "I'm sorry, it's just...it kind of hurts to think back on it, you know?"
"I understand," Johnny said quietly, looking at the scenery as they drove by. He wondered about what her ex-boyfriend was like. Was he like him? Or was he different?
Johnny didn't care, and wasn't in the mood to know either.
