Yo what's up? Okay so I got a bunch of ambiguous "dantana baby" and "pregnant dantana" prompts so i had a weird conversation with my bestie and it gave me this idea. i promise it will all make sense at the end! Enjoy :)
Santana rolled over in her bed, expecting to find Dani next to her as usual. She kept her eyes closed and reached over to pull the blonde close, but was met with cold sheets. Yawning, she sat up and rubbed her eyes.
"Dani?" she called out to her wife.
"Kitchen!"
"What are you doing?"
"Making breakfast, duh."
Santana smiled. It was always a nice surprise when Dani woke up early and made food for the two of them. When she absentmindedly reached over to her nightstand for her glasses, her hand hit a jar that wasn't there the night before. Furrowing her eyebrows, she picked up the jar and put on her glasses.
"Prego tomato sauce? What in the hell..."
The brunette stood up and walked out into the kitchen, taking the jar with her. As she entered the kitchen, Santana stopped and leaned against the wall, crossing her arms and watching Dani with a soft smile on her face. The blonde had her hair pulled up out of her face, wearing only Santana's oversized high school sweatshirt as she cooked. She had the sleeves rolled up as she danced to the music playing from the portable speakers she kept in there. Dani spun around as she danced, grinning when she saw Santana.
"Well don't just stand there, creep. Come help me!" she laughed.
Santana shook her head, smiling. Walking over to Dani, she brought the blonde in for a kiss.
"Good morning to you too, love." Pulling away, she held up the jar of sauce. "Did you leave this on my nightstand?"
"Yes! Thanks for finding that, I need it for later," Dani laughed. Taking the jar from Santana, she placed it on the back counter. She turned around and faced the brunette, putting her hands on her hips and quirking an eyebrow. "Now, are you gonna help me make food or not?"
"Sure thing. What do you need me to do?"
They spent the next ten minutes finishing up breakfast, goofing around together like teenagers. Making their way to the couch in the family room, they sat snuggled together as they watched a little TV. Dani didn't care that she was twenty seven years old; she loved watching vintage cartoons on Saturday mornings, and she was lucky that Santana didn't mind watching them with her. She was also lucky that Santana was left handed; it was easier for them to cuddle and eat at the same time.
When they were done eating, Santana looked down at Dani.
"So what do you want to do today, babe?" she asked, pushing her glasses up her nose.
"Can we have a lazy day? I don't really want to do much," Dani suggested.
"That sounds awesome," Santana grinned. "I'm just gonna go brush my teeth really fast."
"Okay, but hurry up. I wants to get my cuddles on," the blonde teased.
"You've been with me for too long, D." Santana couldn't help the smile on her face as she walked into their bathroom.
"Not long enough!" Dani yelled from the couch, causing her to chuckle.
Santana rolled her eyes at Dani as she entered the bathroom. She stopped in her tracks, staring at the jar of Prego tomato sauce on the sink. She picked it up and walked it back out to Dani. Holding it up, she quirked an eyebrow.
"Dan, why was this is the bathroom?"
"Oh that's where I put that one!" Dani laughed. She stood up and took it from Santana, kissing her cheek. She walked into the kitchen, leaving Santana to shake her head and go back to the bathroom.
Dani was always leaving stuff in the weirdest places, so Santana wasn't all that surprised when she found the jars. She found it kind of endearing. Smiling to herself, she brushed her teeth and put her contacts in, not wanting to hassle with her glasses all day, and walked back out to Dani. The blonde was playing on her phone and not paying attention, so Santana crept over to her as quietly as she could. When she got to the point that if she got any closer Dani would notice her, she rushed up and carefully jumped on Dani, knocking her lengthways across the couch as she landed on top of her.
"Tana!" Dani squealed when Santana jumped on her. "You scared the shit out of me!"
"Sorry baby. I couldn't help it," Santana laughed. She settled her body between the back of the couch and Dani's, pulling the shorter woman in closer. "Do you want to watch a movie?"
"Yeah. You can pick."
Santana got up and walked over to the cabinet under the TV, where they kept their DVD's. She sat down, crossing her legs as she opened it. Expecting nothing but movie cases, she was surprised by another unexpected object.
"What the fuck," she laughed, holding up another jar of Prego tomato sauce. "Dani, you need to stop leaving food all over the house."
"Whoops," Dani giggled. Getting up, she grabbed the jar from Santana and walked it into the kitchen.
Santana grinned to herself and looked back at their movie collection. She settled on one and popped the DVD in, then walked back to the couch and laid down as she waited for Dani. The blonde came back in from the kitchen and without hesitation laid down on top of Santana, snuggling right into her.
"What did you pick?"
"Sassy Pants," Santana answered, wrapping her arms around Dani and holding her close.
"I like that one."
"I know, that's why I picked it."
"You're so good to me," Dani mumbled teasingly, a smile on her face.
"I know. But by all means, keep feeding my ego," Santana laughed.
"Your ego doesn't need to be any bigger."
"Yet here we are..." She laughed as Dani lightly smacked her arm.
"Just shut up and watch the movie," Dani rolled her eyes, trying to keep the grin off her face and failing miserably. Santana complied, and the two of them watched the movie in comfortable silence together.
About halfway through, Santana noticed Dani had fallen asleep. She looked around for a blanket but couldn't find one so she carefully got up, smiling at Dani's sleepy grumbling, and walked over the the hall closet. Rifling through the sheets and towels, she located Dani's favorite black and white Beatles logo blanket wedged in the back. She pulled on it, but there was something heavy on top of it that made it difficult to pull out. She lifted the blanket above it and reached her hand in, pulling out the offending object. Yet another jar of Prego tomato sauce.
"Seriously?" she mumbled to herself. Shaking her head, she grabbed the blanket and the jar and walked back out to Dani. She draped the blanket over her sleeping wife, then walked into the kitchen to put the jar away. She was about to put it in the cupboard, but she noticed the other three jars were still out along the back counter. Shrugging her shoulders she placed the newest jar next to them, figuring Dani must need them for something.
Santana made her way back out to sit on the couch, gently positioning herself back between Dani and the couch, fixing the blanket over them. She laid her arm over Dani's stomach and smiled to herself, loving that they could spend time together like this. Dani moved her arm in her sleep and brought Santana's arm into her chest, holding it tightly to herself. Santana leaned down and kissed her cheek before cuddling closer to Dani and focusing back on the movie, eventually dozing off completely content.
She woke to a light tickling on her face. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw Dani staring back at her and gently tracing her features.
"Are you watching me while I sleep?" she asked, a smile tugging on her lips. Dani simply nodded and continued running her fingers across Santana's skin. "Now who's the creep," she teased.
"If admiring my wife's gorgeous face is creepy, then I guess I'm the creepiest."
"That you are, m'dear." Dani giggled, leaning up to press her lips to Santana's. "What time is it?" Santana asked when Dani pulled away, the shorter woman's arm draped over her waist.
"A little after 1." Santana took a deep breath and let it out sleepily, nodding. "Why?"
"Alicia was going to email me some work stuff today around noon. I need to go see if she did." She giggled at Dani's pout. "I told you we could have a lazy day, and I know that means no work. I'm not going to read it or anything, I just need to check if I got them or not," she assured the blonde.
"Okay," Dani agreed slowly, but didn't move.
"That means you gotta let me up, Dan."
"Does it really though?"
"Yes. Yes it does," Santana laughed.
"If you say so," Dani said dramatically, lifting her arm and letting Santana get up.
"Thank you." Santana leaned over and placed a quick kiss on Dani's forehead before walking into the office. She plopped down in the comfy office chair and reached for the computer monitor's power button. Her hand stopped as she saw something out of the corner of her eye. Turning slowly, she face-palmed at what she saw. Sitting right next to the printer was another jar of Prego tomato sauce.
"Okay, what in the actual fuck."
She picked it up and walked out to the couch, but Dani wasn't there. Santana put the jar on the counter next to the others, then called out for her missing blonde as she walked back to the office.
"Dani?"
"Bathroom!"
"I need to ask you something when you're done," she said loudly.
"Okay."
Santana turned the computer on and signed into her email, checking to make sure she had everything she needed. She finished quickly and turned the computer off, wandering back out to the couch as she waited for Dani. Soon enough, the blonde walked out and sat on Santana's lap, circling her arms around her neck.
"What took you so long? You okay?" Santana asked.
"Yeah I'm fine, I just wanted to put my comfy pants on and it took a little while to find them," Dani smiled.
"But I don't like it when you wear pants," Santana pouted.
"I know babe," Dani chuckled, "but I want to go sit outside and it's a little chilly."
"Well then let's go," Santana grinned mischievously.
Dani eyed her curiously, then let out a little yelp when Santana scooped her up and walked towards the sliding glass door that led to their small backyard. She managed to open the door without having to put Dani down, and gently deposited her on one of the lawn chairs outside. She took a seat on the one next to her, reaching over the small table between them and grabbing her hand to intertwine their fingers.
"Do you want you just sit out here, or...?" she questioned.
"Um, can we play a card game or something? We haven't played games in a while," Dani suggested.
"That sounds like fun," Santana agreed. "Regular cards or Uno?"
"Regular. I feel like kicking your ass at Rat Slap again," Dani smirked.
"Sure, we can play that."
"But you have to take your goddamn ring off this time. I have a scar from the last time we played!"
"Oh, you mean the same goddamn ring you asked me to marry you with?"
"Yes, that goddamn ring. Take it off before we play. Or at least put it on your other hand." Santana laughed and did as Dani asked. "I swear, that's literally the only bad thing about marrying a lefty."
"You poor baby," Santana said sarcastically as she got up. "Okay, regular cards. And I'm gonna put pants on too. It's kinda cold out here."
"Told you so," Dani grinned cheekily.
"Yeah yeah," Santana waved her hand dismissively, rolling her eyes as she walked towards the sliding door.
"Wait! Come back here." Santana walked back over to Dani and laughed as the blonde looked up at her with puppy dog eyes, knowing exactly what she wanted. She leaned down and attached her lips to Dani's, allowing it to linger for a few seconds before pulling away and walking inside. "Love you!" Dani shouted after her.
"Love you too, dork."
Santana walked into their bedroom and opened the drawer that contained her sweatpants and pajama pants. She reached into the back of the drawer, knowing that's where her college sweatpants with the pockets were. Her hand collided with something solid, and she pulled it out.
"Oh come on," she said exasperatedly, looking down at the jar of Prego tomato sauce in her hand.
Placing it on top of the dresser, she changed into her sweatpants. Santana grabbed the jar and headed towards the couch. She knelt down and pulled out the basket from under the coffee table, looking for the deck of cards they kept in there.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Santana lifted out another jar of Prego tomato sauce. "What is going on in that girl's head?" she mumbled to herself.
She found the cards and slipped them into her pocket, then walked into the kitchen to place jars six and seven with the others. Thoroughly confused, she made her way back out to Dani and dropped the cards onto the table and reclaimed her seat.
"D, why do we have so many jars of tomato sauce?"
"Dinner party next week, remember?" Dani answered as she started shuffling the cards, looking up at Santana.
"Okay, but why are they all over the house? I just found one in my drawer and one in the basket under the coffee table."
"Sorry babe. I guess I got distracted putting them away or something," Dani shrugged as she dealt the cards. "You ready for a beat down?" she challenged.
"Bring it."
They played for about an hour, the backs of their hands red from the constant slapping. When Santana won the last game, they decided to go inside and make some lunch. Santana found another jar of Prego in the cupboard with all of the cups, and Dani just laughed it off. If Santana didn't know how often Dani misplaced things, she would be more than a little concerned.
After lunch, Dani decided she wanted to put together one of the many puzzles they had. The one she picked was a picture of a basket full of puppies, and she spread the thousand pieces out over the coffee table as Santana picked some music. Dani sat on the floor and started trying to put pieces together, Santana giggling at her as she sat on the couch and did the same.
Eventually Santana got way too frustrated and gave up, going to their bedroom and looking for her book.
"Hey babe, have you seen my book?" she called out.
"I think it's in my guitar case."
"Which one?" Santana asked as she headed to the spare room where Dani kept her music gear.
"The soft black one."
"Why is it in there?"
"We went to the park last week, remember?"
"Right. Thanks."
Santana found the right guitar case and fished around in the front pocket. Her hand hit something unusually hard, and she let out a sigh.
"If that's what I think it is, I swear..." She pulled the object out. "Dani, why the fuck is there another jar of Prego in your guitar case?"
"There is? Damn, I must've spaced pretty hard," Dani laughed.
Santana rolled her eyes and found her book, then picked up the jar and walked it into the kitchen to put with the other.
"Do we really need nine jars of Prego?" she questioned as she flopped down on the couch, taking a minute to watch Dani.
"We're having a lot of people over, so yeah." Dani's face scrunched up as she toyed with a piece, trying to fit it into the half finished puzzle.
Santana simply smiled at her, then picked up her book and began to read. They were comfortable like that; each of them doing their own thing, but doing it together. It honestly didn't matter to Santana what they ended up doing, as long as she had Dani there she was fine with anything.
Dani finished her puzzle and crawled over to sit up against the couch near Santana, grabbing the remote off the table and flipping through the TV channels, keeping the volume low so she wouldn't bother the Latina as she read. Santana smiled softly and dropped her right hand over the side of the couch. Dani reached up with her left hand and laced their fingers together, leaning her head against Santana's arm.
Santana had managed to get pretty far into her book before Dani decided she needed to get up and make dinner. The blonde turned her head and gave Santana's palm a quick kiss before standing up and heading into the kitchen.
"Do you want any help babe?" Santana asked.
"I think I'm okay for now. Thanks though."
"Well, I'll be here if you need me."
Dani poked her head into the room and raised an eyebrow at the brunette, making a face at her.
"I should hope so."
Santana just flashed her a smile and went back to reading, chuckling to herself as she heard Dani grumble "idiot" as she returned to the kitchen. She was there for about thirty minutes before she called out to Santana.
"Tana, come here."
Santana marked her place and put the book down on the coffee table, then walked to the kitchen.
"What do you need?" she asked, leaning against the wall.
"I got some shit in my hair and I need to pee really badly, can you take the buns out of the oven in a couple minutes?"
"Sure."
Dani walked to their bathroom, leaving Santana in the kitchen. After a couple minutes, Santana walked over to the oven and opened it.
"Dan, there's nothing in here."
"Well then can you put the buns in?"
"You want me to put buns in the oven?" Santana couldn't help but laugh at the joke.
"Yes, I'm asking you to put the buns in the oven," Dani called out.
"If you insist!" Santana complied, then confirmed her actions for Dani as she giggled to herself. "Okay, there are officially buns in the oven!"
"Great, thank you."
Dani came back out and finished making their dinner, with Santana's help and many more "bun in the oven" comments. Dani just rolled her eyes, a tiny smile just barely noticeable on her face as Santana made bad joke after bad joke. Eventually the brunette stopped, and they settled down to eat at the rectangular dining room table; Dani on the longer side and Santana on the shorter side next to her. Dani dove right into her food, surprising Santana. She knew that Dani could eat quite a bit, but this was different. It wasn't her normal appetite, and Santana couldn't figure it out.
"Careful there D. It almost looks like you're eating for two," Santana laughed.
Dani stopped and just stared at Santana, her fork halfway to her mouth. Slowly she put it back down, then brought her elbows up onto the table and clasped her hands together, resting her chin on them.
"Santana, have you noticed anything today?"
"Um...I'm pretty sure you cheated in that second game of Rat Slap, but other than that no."
"Really? Nothing at all?"
"No..." Santana furrowed her eyebrows. "Should I have?"
"Let's think, shall we? Nine jars of Prego, bun in the oven, eating for two?" Dani stared intently at Santana.
"I'm confused..."
"For crying out loud..." Dani reached over and grabbed Santana's hands, looking directly into her eyes. "Santana, you beautiful, beautiful idiot." Her face broke out into a huge smile. "I'm pregnant."
Santana's eyes widened and her jaw dropped wide open. It took her a few seconds to comprehend what Dani had just told her.
"A-are you serious?" Dani nodded. "But I thought...the last test was negative?"
"We didn't wait long enough. I got excited and we did the test too soon. But I went to the doctor yesterday and I am for shiz up the spout," Dani grinned.
"Oh my god Dani, that's..." Santana honestly couldn't find the words to express how happy she was.
They had been trying for a long time, and now that it was finally happening she just couldn't come up with the right thing to say. So she did the only thing she knew would convey her feelings until her words caught up: kissed her girl senseless. Absolutely, completely senseless.
"That's the best thing I've ever heard," she choked out when they parted. "Aside from you asking me to marry you, of course," Santana laughed with watery eyes.
"It's the best thing I've heard too, next to you saying yes." Dani reached up and wiped a stray tear from Santana's cheek. She clasped her hands with Santana's, looking up at her with more love than she knew what to do with.
"We're going to have a baby."
