I don't own Twilight. I just like twisting the characters in my own way.
Should Not Have Been Alert
"Alice, Edward, I'm home!" Jasper called when he walked into the apartment he has called home since the moment Alice invited him into her bed to protect her. Edward had watched her four more times in the two weeks since he first had.
Jasper stopped just a few feet inside the door. The air felt still and stiff. There was no warmth in the place. It felt like no one had been in the apartment for hours. He began frantically searching everywhere like he had the first night Edward had protected Alice. Edward and Alice were no where in the apartment.
Jasper flew back down the stairs. He scanned the parking lot and saw both Alice and Edward's cars. They were not at the grocery store this time.
"Sam! Emmett! Ben!" Jasper screamed a few times once he burst into the bar. "They are gone! I mean really gone!"
Emmett stuck his head out of the door and saw the missing pair's cars still in the parking lot. "If they aren't in the apartment, maybe they went for a walk."
"No, the apartment feels like they haven't been in there for a while, maybe not even all day." Jasper said shaking his head. "I think we need to call Sheriff Black and his son."
"What about Esme and Carlisle?" Sam asked tentatively.
Emmett and Jasper stared at each other for a long moment. Emmett finally said, "Let's wait a few to call them. We need to get the Sheriff involved and a game plan in place first. The two of them rolling into chaos isn't the best idea. His lungs and heart were more damaged in the fire than any of us were lead to believe according to Esme."
Jasper turned to Ben, he was about to ask the part time bartender to call the Sheriff, but saw that Ben already had the bar's phone to his ear. Ben sat a cold beer in front of Jasper. After telling Sheriff Black to get to the bar quickly, Ben said to Jasper, "You are going to need that. If I were you, I would drink it before the cops get here."
"Alice, it is time to wake up." Lyle Cullen whispered in her ear. Her head rolled to one side as she tried to get away from the harsh voice. Lyle tugged on her ear and yelled at her to wake up.
Her eyes popped open and she tried to jump, but the restraints she was in would not allow it. "Where… where… what is going on?" She looked all around her, but she could not see much. The only light was a hula hoop size circle coming from a hanging lamp directly above her. She was sitting on a slotted high back, wooden chair. She was bound to it at the ankles and knees while her arms were tied together around one of the slats behind her back.
"Well, Alice," Lyle said from behind her. "I have some unfinished business with your mother, you, and your father. Your mother, Esme, is really and innocent pawn in my mind. She just happened to meet the wrong guy and fall helplessly in love with him at the wrong time."
"My father is not the wrong man for her. They love each other." Alice spat back. "They have been the happiest, annoyingly loving couple I have known for the last two and halve decades."
"But there lies the real question, what was going on with your parents before they met and became happiest, annoyingly loving couple?" Lyle asked walking around in front of her. He seemed to be carefully staying out of the tight and keep his back toward Alice. "Do you know what was happening then?"
"My mom was going to school to be an interior designer and my father was a fire fighter in Seattle." Alice explained.
Lyle's shoulders shook while he chuckled. "Is that what they told the poor, naïve, fragile Alice?"
"Yes, why? What does my family history have to do with you?"
"So, you never knew that your father was dating and actually engaged to someone else when he met your mother?" Lyle asked a sneer becoming evident in his tone and the tension in his muscled on his back.
"I know that there was a one night stand stalking my father." Alice answered back. "My mother had to call campus security twice because of that woman harassing her and her roommates."
Lyle growled as he quickly left the room shutting off the light as he went.
A half hour after Sheriff Black arrived; a wet Edward arrived at the make-shift command post at the bar in the back of Deputy Sheriff Black's squad car. "I found him wandering aimlessly down a back road between here and Forks."
Jasper jumped up and ran at Edward. Sam and Ben caught him before he could get more than a step or two and pushed him back to his stool.
"I was not wandering aimlessly." Edward slurred as he held a ripped off section of his tee to the side of his head. "I was making my way back to Por… Port Angels."
"It is Port Angeles, but you were close enough." Emmett said coming over and lead Edward to the medics that were nearby. One of the medics immediately began to check his head while the other started cleaning the gravel that was embedded in his arms. "
"Where were you coming from? How did you get on that back road?" Sheriff Black asked before Jasper could try to again to pounce on the obviously injured man.
"Some guy came in while I was in the restroom. Alice was already bond, gagged, blindfolded, and deposited on the floor next to the door. I didn't see anyone, but the whole place was dark. He clothes-lined me as I rushed to free her. The last thing I remember was your ceiling as I fell to the floor. I never even saw him."
"Then, how in the hell did you get away?" Jasper demanded of Edward. "How are you here and not Alice?"
"When I came to, Alice was on the floor of a jeep and I was on the back passenger seat." Edward continued to explain as the medics worked and he winced. "My ankles, knees, and wrists were bound together. I was slowly able to inch my legs off the side of the jeep. Once my ass was on the edge I sat up. I was going to untied my legs before I jumped, but he noticed me in the rearview mirror. I jumped off, putting my hands up in front of my face. I rolled to the lake that is at the edge of Dr. Gerandy's property. He slammed on the brakes. I thought he was coming back to get me."
"What did he do?" Emmett urged Edward to continue after he paused.
Edward shook his head and resumed his story. "He yelled at me to give Carlisle and only Carlisle a message."
"Then, tell me already." Carlisle responded as he rolled into the bar, surprising everyone that he was there.
Author's note~
Well, what do you think? Let me know!
I wrote this over the course of 2 hours. I love this post the next one is the final post. I might write an epilogue in a couple of months, but I have another story idea that has been nagging at me for a while to outline and write. I will be back to posting in a couple of months either way.
