The Sounds of Silence~ Epilogue

Five Years Later

"Edward," Alice called up the back stairs to her old apartment from the bar's kitchen. "If you do not get down here with my children right now, I will be forced to play the video I made of you playing with Charlotte last week."

Jasper chuckled at his wife as she came through the kitchen door. "Darlin', the three of them will be down in a few minutes. Charlotte loves the tea party set that you put up there and never wants to leave it. Also, it you wanted to get Peter out of the play apartment, you should not have let your brother get him the dancing video game."

"How in the world was I supposed to know that my country son would end up loving dancing to Michael Jackson's music?" Alice asked picking up a bar rag and throwing it at her husband sitting at the bar.

"Maybe someday you can find a way to embarrass the boy with that moon walking montage video that you and Edward have put together." Rosalie added since she was listening in on their conversation as she bounced her adopted daughter, Renata, on her knee.

"Alice can only show that video if she promises to edit out the parts she has snuck in of me moon walking with Peter and Charlotte." Edward said walking into the bar with a honey blonde, two year old pixie and a raven haired, four year old boy in tow.

"Hey, kiddos, did you have fun playing upstairs with Uncle Edward this afternoon?" Alice asked as she squatted down to her children's level.

"I beat Uncle Edward!" Peter yelled excitedly. "I beat him by a thousand points dancing to Thriller!"

"I am sure that Uncle Edward loves that you just told the entire bar he sucks at dancing." Jasper laughed as Edward shot him a dirty look.

Charlotte tugged on her Uncle Edward's shirt. In her pixie voice, she asked, "Tell mommy now?"

"Not yet," Edward said scooping up his niece. "We have to wait a little bit longer. Once Grandma and Grandpa get here, your mommy will find out."

Before Alice could question the man that had become more than just a biological brother, he walked off with her daughter in his arms toward his girlfriend. Alice turned from him to her husband, "Just what is my daughter not allowed to tell me?"

Peter started to open his mouth, but his father quickly pointed out five-year-old Leah. Peter took off to see the girl he called his girlfriend, much to her father's dismay.

"Jasper, what is going on? I thought I told you before that I do not like it when you keep me in the dark. I want you to tell me right now." Alice turned as the bar's door opened. Esme walked into the bar followed quickly by Carlisle in his sport wheelchair. "My parents are here. Now, tell me."

Before Jasper could answer, the door opened again. Anthony Masen walked in followed by his doctor Dr. Aro Volturi, from the private facility that Carlisle and Edward paid for.

"Anthony?" Alice questioned in almost a whisper as she stepped out from behind the bar. She did not stop moving until she was standing directly in front of her other brother.

"Hello, Alice. It is nice to see you again." Anthony said holding out his hand. Alice glanced at the doctor before taking Anthony's outstretched hand.

"It is good to see you, too." Alice said smiling. "Do you want to come over and sit at the bar? I can serve you something from my private stash."

"Mrs. Whitlock," Dr. Volturi started. "Anthony cannot have alcohol."

"That works out perfectly because neither can I." Alice said over her shoulder. She did not want Anthony to feel guilty and backslide from the progress he had made, so she added, "I put too much stress on my kidney with Charlotte. Now, I cannot have any at all."

"Now, it is even more ironic that you own a bar, Mrs. Whitlock." Dr. Volturi said with a small smile as he and Anthony made to sit on a couple of bar stools.

Alice got out three glasses to fill with her mixture of cranberry and orange juice. "I just saw you last week. You didn't think to tell me that you are ready to visit me."

"It had been discussed by my doctors, but I had not participated in the conversation." Anthony explained. "The main reason I joined that conversation was because of you. The stories and pictures of your kids made me want to venture out into the world again. I am grateful for that place and all of the help it has given me, but I wanted to see my family outside of the beautiful and sterile environment."

"After the whack on the head that Angela gave you, we were not sure you could ever be the person Edward remembered from when you were teenagers." Alice said. "I was so excited when you began cracking jokes when Edward and I visited you three years ago. I began having real hope for having you become a bigger part of my life."

Jasper joined the conversation. "You might get more of him than you guessed that you could."

Alice looked back and forth between her husband and her brother quizzically.

Edward laughed as he joined the group and slung his arm around his twin brother. "Anthony has always been good with his hands. He is going to start helping out around town supervised by Deputy Sheriff Jacob Black, starting with Dr. Gerandy's farm."
