Chapter 4
The woman on the other side of the door, had a curious look on her face. She was average height for a woman, with dark hair that was starting to turn gray, with a beautiful emerald green eyes, she had on a light green summer dress with very short sleeves, it looked much cooler than I felt. I sat there staring at her, her face broke into a smile.
"Well hello dear." She took a few steps closer to me, something about her just relaxed me. I exhaled and smiled to match hers. She visibly relaxed when I did. "You had us genuinely worried. How long have you been awake?"
"Not long, It took me a while to sit up honestly."
Her expression saddens, "I'm so sorry, I should have stayed closer to the house so I could have heard you when you awoke. It's just-"
A wave of dizziness washed over me again and I swayed slightly.
"Oh dear! You should lie back and rest." She started to gently press my shoulders back towards the bed. I shoved her hands off of me.
"Stop! I don't need to rest! I have been asleep to long, how long have I been here?"
She stepped back, I think I offended her. "You have been here for a month. You have been in and out of consciousness for the entire time."
I sat there in shock for a moment. A month? "What happened? How did I get here-"
"My eldest son is a fisherman off the coast. He found you floating in the water, you were badly injured and needed tended to right away. When he got to the shore there were fire nation troops everywhere, and all of them asking about you. He feared they may kill you, so he brought you to me until you were ready to at the least defend yourself for your crimes." She hung her head, "Whatever you did must have been horrible. The Fire Lord himself was at a few of the villages nearby. I feared everyday that they would show up here and take you."
"Crimes against the Fire nation? What could I have done?"
"My neighbors all know you are here, but we are a very small farming community, not even on a map. I doubt the Fire nation even knows we exist." She smiled lightly at that, then saddened. "I wish things were better and more trusting with our allies, but after 100 years of war it is hard to just forgive all they have done. My neighbors will not tell that you are here. When you are well enough to face them you may go."
"Allies? What allies? You are Earth kingdom citizens correct?"
"The peace treaties have all been signed and agreed upon by the world leaders. The war is over dear." She chimed with a grin, there will be no more senseless death."
"Wait!" My head spun, the world began to blurr. No keep it together! Do not pass out! I have to know! Willing my head to stay in this conversation. "The war, the war the fire nation started by wiping out the air nation. It is over? What happened did the Fire Lord decide to suddenly decide that world domination was a hassle?!"
The world seemed to freeze. The air got unbearably cold and it seemed as if the air itself had frozen solid.
"Wha-!" I tried to speak but my mouth seemed unable to move.
Suddenly a vision flooded my sight.
"Come on! We have to go! Dad's patience is already worn thin with your outburst last night!"
Footsteps neared my door, "Katara! Come on!" I quickly shoved a blue dress into my fur satchel and threw it over my shoulder.
The boy that so rudely barged into my room was slightly taller than I, with a similar blue tunic to my dress, his hair was shaved on the sides and longer on top but pulled back into a small ponytail. His bright blue eyes were almost wild looking. He had a parka over his shoulder ready to pull on at a moments notice.
"I think I am ready, but I keep feeling like I am forgetting something." I glanced around my simple room. A plain cot with heaps of furs covering it was in the corner, a small dresser was covered in hair ties, a hair brush, a small mirror, and a beautiful Ivory pendant and red silk tie necklace. No need to take that, Aang wont be attending or he wont be if he follows his word.
"Kaattaaaraaaaa!" His whiny voice cut through my thoughts.
"Sokka, you sound like a buffalo yak giving birth!"
Grabbing my parka out the door I went.
As the door slammed in my vision it was gone, as quickly as it came. The very nice lady was sitting in front of me on her knees with a very worried expression.
"Sokka? Where's Sokka?" I croak out. My throat seems to have dried out, "I have to find him. He could be hurt."
She looked at me with a very caring expression, "Sweetie, who is Sokka?"
My mind went blank, "I don't know."
