Hey guys, I'm back with some more Percy Jackson! This little fiction piece is based off this head canon I found on Pintrest: pin/306667055849996271/ Check it out! I kind of changed it a little. I figured I needed to redeem myself after that last fic that traumatized you all. :D Hope you all enjoy!
After the war with Gaea, Percy and Annabeth made one last effort at being normal teenagers.
Of course, it was Annabeth's idea to go to high school.
After a lot of begging on Annabeth's part, and lots of grumbling on Percy's part, the couple found themselves enrolling in a school that was close to camp; a part of the deal Chiron and Annabeth had made.
It was now mid February, and Percy was just barely surviving. Why he had let Annabeth talk him into this, he'll never know. Annabeth had looked so excited to go back to school, that he didn't have the heart to crush her dreams.
The only thing that kept him going, was that Annabeth was in half his classes. They both had the same electives, gym, art, latin, and study hall together.
It is just their luck, however, that during gym the principle announced that they had been completely snowed in and couldn't leave.
Annabeth and Percy were paranoid that some freaky snow demon monster had purposefully trapped them inside.
But they couldn't just blurt that out, could they?
So, the couple just hung out with their mortal friends and goofed off.
Then, came the time to part.
It was hard, considering everything they'd been through, during the past summer. The pair had been allowed to sleep in the same cabin, after they had both woken up half the camp with their screams of terror in the middle of the night.
The only thing that prevented the night terrors was sleeping together in the same bed.
This however was a problem, due to the boys sleeping in the cafeteria and the girls sleeping in the gym.
Percy held Annabeth's hand in his own and brought them to his chest.
"We're gonna be okay." It wasn't much a question, more of a statement.
"Of course," she answered back, but even she didn't believe herself.
"I love you," Percy said as he brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"Love you too," She kissed him, and watched as he backed away and left the gym. As he opened the door, he looked back and blew her a kiss.
She bit her lip, and turned back to her friends.
The school had supplied enough blankets for everyone to have their own. Annabeth had set up her blanket next to her friends Miranda, Grace, and Kate. They all sat in a circle around Annabeth's blanket and talked for a while.
At 10, the teachers yelled lights out, and then there was only darkness.
At first, Annabeth had a small panic attack. She hated being in the dark after Tartarus and constantly had to fight the trauma that darkness brought.
Kate felt someone kick her, and she woke up to someone mumbling and thrashing next to her. She sat up and turned to her right, and saw Annabeth crying in her sleep.
"Percy!" Annabeth gasped, "No. No, no no," Kate woke up Grace and they both crept down to the cafeteria where the boys were asleep.
After searching for 10 minutes, and stepping on a few people, they finally found the green-eyed teenager sleeping with an arm under his pillow and drooling on it.
"Psst… Percy!" Grace whispered.
Percy only gave a soft snore in answer.
Kate didn't have time to gently wake him up, and kicked his leg.
Percy yanked his arm out from under the pillow and pulled out his pen. His black hair flopped everywhere as he whipped his head.
"Wha… Monster?"
The two girls exchanged looks.
"Percy, Annabeth is having a nightmare. She's calling out your name." Grace whispered.
Percy scrambled to his feet and ran to the gym.
Grace and Kate tried to follow best they could, but he easily outran them.
By the time that they arrived, Percy was frantically searching for her.
Kate grabbed his forearm and dragged him over to her.
Percy crouched down next to her and took his face in her hands.
"Anna… Annabeth," He whispered. Her breathing was still rapid, but her sounds were a bit quieter. "Annabeth wake up, Wise girl."
Annabeth gasped and sat up, breathing heavily. She clung to Percy, her eyes wild.
"You… You're alive. Gods Percy, you're alive!" She sobbed with relief. She buried her face into the crook of his neck, and he pulled her into her lap.
It was obvious to the two onlookers that this had happened before. They were stunned by how their strong friend, wasn't as strong as they thought. Most of all, they were stunned by the love between the two teens. They had this mature yet young love about them that they had never seen before. It was easy to see the bond between the couple.
After a while, Annabeth had sobbed herself to sleep. Percy wrapped her blanket around her, and lifted her up into his arms.
"I'm going to take her to an empty classroom so she won't wake anyone up. Then, I'm calling Chi— I mean her father." Percy said to their friends. "If anyone finds us missing, just say that she got sick, and you guys came and got me."
He carried her bridal style to the doors, and Grace ran over and opened the doors for him.
"Oh, and Grace?" Percy said. "Thank you for not waking her up and coming to get me. Tell that to Kate too. You guys are good friends."
Grace smiled, "Always."
Percy walked around until he found a classroom door that wasn't locked. He set Annabeth down in an empty spot and adjusted the blanket around the two of them. He wrapped his arms around her waist and she snuggled closer to his chest.
"I love you, Annabeth Chase," He said as he started to drift off.
Right before he fell asleep, he swore he saw her lips quirk up in a smile.
