-Chapter 5-

Liliuokalani

The sun was beginning to set as Lilo asked this, lighting the room with the flame-like tinge of the glowing, red skyline.

"Now?"

"Please?" asked Lilo.

"It's a bit of a long story Lilo," said Nani, not wanting to take up both of their days with a story their mother could spend hours telling.

"Could you make it shorter, Stitch hasn't heard this story yet," pleaded Lilo once again.

"Okay, baby; let's make this quick." Nani gave in, knowing that if she didn't, she would regret not telling the story of how she and her sister were both named, after she had ended the call.

Lilo sat cross-legged on the carpet.

"Stitch?"

"Ih?"

"Come sit next to me?"

Eager to sit closer to his new Boojiboo, Stitch jumped down from the chair and joined Lilo at her side. He lay down with his head in her lap and his legs crossed so that his body was facing the screen that was now illuminating the darkened room, now that the sun had set completely.

Lilo giggled at how he had chosen to sit while he would now listen to this new story. While all of this was happening, Nani took a seat and prepared herself on how to start the story that now had to be condensed and also simplify so that Stitch would understand it.

Nani sometimes took Stitch's mind for granted – even though Jumba himself described Stitch brain 'as fast as super-computer' – she still just saw him as a pet. Even though she knew this not to be true; she did notice that, even now, Stitch found it difficult to grasp some "human" things that many people would describe as: simple.

"Okay… are you two sitting comfortably?" Nani asked, trying to mimic their mother's story-telling technique as best as she could. Lilo noticed this and smiled broadly. She began to absentmindedly pet Stitch's head, she loved the feel of his fur. Stitch began to purr softly as they both settled in to listen intently.

"So, once upon a time, long ago; there was a beautiful monarch called-"

"Mom used to call her a queen," said Lilo, remembering how her mom used to tell the same story.

"Do you want to tell the story, Lilo?" questioned Nani.

"No… sorry Nani," Lilo vowed to keep quiet and enjoy the tale.

"Thank you… so, there was a beautiful monarch called, Liliuokalani, just where we live in Hawaii. She was the very last Queen of the Hawaiian Kingdom before it became the state of Hawaii. During her time at the throne she wrote many songs and poems. But, one of her songs was much more famous than the rest, and that song was called…"

"Aloha Oe," both sisters said in unison. Stitch's ears pricked up at this; he didn't realise that this was the origin of his favourite 'non-Elvis' song.

"That's right. But, we haven't reached the most important part yet," said Nani, "when Mom heard this story from her mom, she already knew how many children she wanted: she wanted two girls. So, when she heard the story of Liliuokalani, she used the first three letters of the Queen's name to make: Lilo, and the last three letters of her name to make: Nani. Lilo also had a secret meaning; firstly 'Lilo' does mean 'Lost' which represents the fall of the Kingdom of Hawaii."

Stitch noticed Lilo's face fall at this comment.

"But don't worry Lilo, it also had a second meaning; she had really high hope for us two. And to show this, she told of the second meaning when telling this very tale. 'Lilo' also means 'generous one'. I'm sure Mom is very proud that you're living up to that wish."

Nani smiled, and Lilo smiled with her.

"The story of Liliuokalani is, as well, the reason Mom used to sing Aloha Oe to us both and why we sing it still. The end."

"Thanks Nani!" said Lilo.

"Ih!" exclaimed Stitch.

"Happy birthday, baby," Nani said, "I have to go now, honey."

"Bye Nani!"

"Jhua Tehrqua!"

The call ended and the screen went back to the main menu. Stitch sat up and stretched.

"You sleepy?" asked Lilo.

"Ih, meega fooboo," said Stitch, yawning and rubbing his eyes.

"C'mon, let's go up to our room."

They both made their way out of Jumba and Pleakley's bedroom and down the hall. Before they could reach the elevator to their room, they heard the front door burst open.

"Hellooooo, everyone!" exclaimed Pleakley as he closed the door behind him, he was holding around six plastic bags in each hand containing both groceries and clothes. He stopped when he noticed Ohanni on the sofa sat next to Jumba. "Agh, another little monster!" He shouted dropping all of the bags.

Ohanni's ears drooped at this comment.

"Pleakley!" shouted Lilo, "I wish you'd stop calling the cousins 'monsters'."

At that, she stormed towards the elevator, Stitch at her heels. She pressed the button and they ascended to their dome-like bedroom. She stomped across the room to her bed where she sat down. Stitch followed her slowly.

"Lilo oketaka?" asked Stitch, concerned.

"I just really don't like it when he calls our ohana: 'monsters'," she said, picking up Scrump and giving her a warm hug, "they're our family."

"Ih, meega nota," said Stitch, understanding, "but; yuuga know Pleakley." He finished, giggling. His laugh cheered her up. He sat down next to Lilo, "He does try though, yuuga remember when he held that meeting with Spike, Bonnie, Clyde, Nosey, Fibber, Splodyhead and Slushy to turn Spike to good?"

"And they all stared fighting," she added, smiling.

"Ih, ih; but it worked in the end." Stitch finished.

"Yeah, I know; I guess he just pushed my buttons." She promised to apologise in the morning. "Well, I guess it's time to turn in then."

"Ih." Said Stitch, he gave Lilo a peck on the cheek and she pulled him into a hug, they began kissing each others faces until, finally, their lips met. They both closed their eyes and fell into the kiss... their first kiss. It was magical, it was everything they'd dreamt of and more.

Stitch broke the kiss slowly to ask Lilo something he'd had on his mind.

"Lilo?"

"Yeah, Stitch?"

"Why did yuuga not tell Nani about us being Boojiboos?" he asked.

"I don't know Stitch, I'm scared of what she might say. I mean, what if she doesn't except us?" answered Lilo truthfully.

"Do maybe we should just be achi-babas for now?" he said sadly.

"No, Stitch," Lilo said quickly, giving Stitch a kiss before continuing, "I don't care how hard being together is, nothing is worse than being apart. I know there's a million reasons why we shouldn't be together. But; I'm tired of them, and I love you way too much to care what anyone else thinks!"

Her eyes began to water and Stitch cuddled up to her.

"And yes, I do want to be your friend. I want to be the friend you fall hopelessly in love with. The one you take into your arms and into your bed and into the private world you have. I want to be that kind of friend. The one who will memorise the things you say as well as the shape of your lips when you say them. I want to know every curve and every fur-covered shiver of your body. I want to now convince you to make a smile just for me. Yes, I do want to be your achi-baba; I want to be your best friend in the entire world and beyond: I want to be yuuga's Boojiboo! And nothing, and no one, can take that away from us." She pulled Stitch into a tight hug and tried to keep her thoughts away from how her sister would react. "No one."

They lay down and pulled the covers over each other, both silently deciding to sleep in Lilo's bed together. They pulled each other close, kissing and cuddling as they did, waiting to fall into a deep slumber.
