Mayzie Returns Chapter 3

Once Mayzie and the other bird girls returned from the watering hole they took showers and got ready for dinner. A few of the other jungle creatures were due to come over at 7:00.
After her shower Mayzie went out on her balcony to gather her thoughts about the events of that afternoon. She wasn't sure she was looking very forward to the questions the other jungle creatures were going to ask her. With in a few minutes Zoe joined her.
"Do you feel a little better now that you've apologized to Horton?" she asked
Mayzie shrugged. " I guess so. I'm glad we're on the same page but at the same time I'm still feeling a little bit bad that I hurt him like that."
Zoe nodded. "You should have really stayed in better contact with us when you were away... that way you could have been here for the trial and people wouldn't have had to make so many judgments about you taking accountability for your egg."
"Quite honestly I'm worried about the other jungle creatures coming over tonight. I have no idea what kind of questions they are going to ask me." Mayzie said.
"Try not to think about it too much, alright? Things will be fine." Zoe put her arm around Mayzie and gave her a squeeze.
Mayzie grinned at her eldest back up singer . "Thanks Zoe."
The doorbell rang at 6:30. Tia opened the door and smiled at the jungle creatures that stood in the door way. "Hi Ladies!"
" Thanks for having us over tonight Tia." one of the jungle creatures named Ivy said.
Tia's smile grew wide. "You're welcome. We haven't seen you guys since the trial. Aren't we all glad that craziness is behind us?"
Another jungle creature named Bethany smiled " That's for sure. We're getting to know some of the Whos a little bit better now. They all seem really nice."
"Come on in. We're going to have some cocktails before dinner."
The bird girls, the jungle creatures and Mayzie sat down in the living room with their drinks and a cheese and cracker platter.
"Welcome home Mayzie." one of the jungle creatures named Mollie said.
"Thanks Mollie. I'm happy to be back"
"Why were you gone for so long?" Bethany asked.
"Work obligations."
All four jungle creatures raised their eyebrows at each other skeptically but said nothing in response. There was about five minutes of silence.
"Sour Kangaroo doesn't seem to believe that." Claire said.
"Let her believe what she wants to believe. I don't let her opinions bother me. I got a lot of gigs while I was down south. I would have come home for the trial but I kept getting phone calls left and right to perform in local jazz clubs."
" What about that guy you used to date... what was his name again?" Ivy asked,
"Tweet McFurt. I saw him while I was in Fort Worth. We had a nice dinner date."
"Are you guys going to get back together?"" Mollie asked.
"Probably not."
"I'm sure you must know your name came up during the trial." Claire said
Mayzie nodded " Yes."
"You should have really come home from your trip to take some accountability for your egg. It would have been nice to hear your opinion of the whole situation too." Bethany said.
Mayzie let out a sigh. "I know. The whole trial could have easily been avoided if I had done a better job of communicating with you guys while I was away. I would have come back for the trial in a heartbeat to clear up this mess of a misunderstanding. " Mayzie looked around the room at her back up singers.
"Have you talked to Horton yet? He's pretty furious about all of this you know." Ivy asked.
Mayzie nodded. "Yeah, I talked to him this afternoon and apologized. He didn't deserve to suffer to much emotional hardship on my account. He was already going through a lot with you all thinking the Whos didn't exist."
