''Matt, where are you and Kelly?'' Gabby asked on the phone and Matt looked at Severide, who shook his head.
''We are in D-denver.'' Matt lied and Kelly started smirking as Matt stood in front of the window, looking over Las Vegas and he tried not to laugh. He was sure that Gabby wouldn't be upset they went to Vegas but it was easier to let things stay in Vegas if she didn't know they were there in the first place.
''W-what we are going to do today? Not much, the hotel has p-pool, we are going to spend the day there and tonight we go out for d-dinner...sorry?...Oh yeah, It's going to be g-great. Enjoy your weekend with Shay. M-miss you, bye.'' Matt finished the call.
Severide started to laugh and Matt shrugged.
''I feel really bad for Lying.'' Matt admitted as he tucked his phone away in the shorts as they had gotten ready for their day out today.
''I really wanted to t-tell her we are going to the grand canyon today.'' He said at they walked downstairs and walked to Matt's truck, with which they were going to the grand canyon.
''Text it to her, then. Tell her there was change of plans and that we were actually on our way there.''
Matt nodded and texted Gabby. Severide smiled as his friend was so worried his fiancée might feel bad that they were in Vegas but felt even more horrible that he had to lied.
''There was a c-change of plans. We are g-going to the grand canyon today and then we d-drive back to Denver from there.''
Oh. He was still lying and he felt bad, but at least there was a piece of truth in it. He hung up the phone as he and Severide drove away, to the location they had promised to go a few years ago.
''You know where we should also go?'' Andy asked as he looked at the book he was reading and held it up.
''The grand canyon, close to Vegas. I mean, we are going there within a few years. We should do at least something cultural?''
Matt shrugged as he was getting coffee and Severide also looked up.
''That is for tourists.'' Severide said but on the other hand, it seemed really awesome to see for once in his life.
''Well, have you seen it already?'' Andy asked and Severide shrugged and Matt sat with the guys again, looking at the book Andy was reading. It was a book about the prettiest places in the US and Matt looked as Andy flipped the pages and they cheered when they saw Chicago. They looked at more places, maybe for a road trip this year and they ended at the Grand canyon again.
''Honestly, I do want to see the Grand Canyon.'' Severide admitted then and Matt nodded, as well as Andy and they all smacked their fists together, promising each other they would go there one day.
''Vegas, just three more years.'' Andy sighed as he thought that it was his seventh year anniversary this year with Heather and Matt and Kelly nodded.
''We are getting closer, guys.'' Matt smiled and Kelly nodded.
'''We just have to promise each other one thing; what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
Two days later
Matt opened his eyes as he heard a woman screaming and he heard something dropping. With a big yawn he turned his head, looking at the cleaning lady that was holding her broom out, ready to poke him in his side and he crawled from the bed.
''Every morning I think there is corpse when the door is left open. You bastards are not good for my heart.'' The cleaning lady complained as Matt rolled of the bed and fell on the ground, unable the stand up. He laid there for a few seconds.
''Kelly? Kelly?'' Matt asked as he wanted to make sure his friend was still there and worried he sat up as there was no answer, his head pounding from a nasty hangover.
''Kelly?'' He asked again, confused and he got up, looking at the mess in the room. His clothes were all over the floor and his phone was going off on his nightstand and he grabbed it.
''Kelly?'' He asked worried and he was wondering where his friend was.
''This is me, Matt.'' He heard Gabby say.''
''Kelly, don't finish all t-the towels, I still need to s-shower.'' Matt improvised. ''Sorry, I am here n-now.''
''The weekend is so great, we are still in Milwaukee...but we will go home tonight...you will be home in three days, right?''
''Yes...we are d-driving home in two days.''
''But you are in Denver, right? That's only a days drive.''
''Sorry, I mean t-tomorrow, just mixed up the days.'' Matt said as he rubbed his hand over his head, dizzy and feeling sick from his hangover. He could hear Shay calling Gabby and she excused herself, hanging up the phone and Matt laid it back and looked around the room but there was trace from Severide.
Slowly Matt closed the door of the room and he started to pick up his clothes and got dressed after a shower, called Severide. But his friend did not take off his phone and he send a text, hoping Severide would answer soon. He walked to the desk of the hotel downstairs.
''Did...uhm...my friend c-check out this morning or did he l-leave his note?'' Matt said and he realized his stutter worsened and he was not sure if that was because of the hangover and the alcohol or because of worried about Severide.
The woman shrugged when his phone rang, suddenly and Matt took off. A man owning a bar was on the other side of the line and Matt took up the phone walking away.
''My f-friend is...laying at your f-floor...what?''
A few minutes later, Matt got into a taxi and gave the address to the bar. Matt ran inside and tried not to laugh as he saw Severide laying on the floor, his arms around the large pole and he was trapped by the handcuffs around his wrists and he looked at Matt with a less than amused face.
''Got yourself into some s-shit again.'' Matt laughed and Severide just shook his head. The owner of the bar helped Matt sawing through the iron as the key of the handcuffs were gone and Severide was finally free a few minutes later.
''If Andy had been with us, h-he would have been stuck.'' Matt said as they drank one coke in the bar, apologizing to the guy who had found Severide this morning.
''But he would have naked.''
''And married to a h-hooker too.'' Matt added and Severide laughed as they thought about their friend.
''To Andy.''
''To Andy.'' Matt said and they put their glasses together. A little later they left the bar.
''Shit, I don't h-have enough money for the taxi back...do you have s-something?" Matt asked but Severide showed his empty pockets and slowly they started the walk back to the hotel, the one even more hungover to the other and not being able to talk as walking already took most of their energy.
''But how did you get at the hotel?'' Severide panted as they were almost at the hotel.
''I guess we will n-never know.'' Matt smirked when they walked inside the hotel.
''Yup, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.'' Severide concluded as they got in the elevator and couldn't wait to crash for the rest of the holiday after this Vegas adventure.
NOTE: Matt survived Vegas! He will still be able to get to his wedding and Gabby doesn't have to worry haha. They won't find him on the roof!
I have started a new House M.D story, called ''When Roads End.'' It's gonna be a really special story, based on a true story and I hope you will read that one too! It would mean so much to me because it is dedicated to a friend in his memory. Sorry if you already read and reviewed it and I am bothering you again. I'm a awful human being, I know. ;)
Thank you so much for reading this chapter, I hope you liked it although it does not have a lot of real drinking and partying parts...but thats what flashbacks are for, aren't they...or does what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas this time? The last chapters will learn. I know there only should be two more chapters after this but I am thinking about stretching it a bit more to a few more. Please tell me if you agree with that and what you thought about this chapter!
