Hey! Sorry for the long wait. Didn't realize it's been over a month since I last updated. So here it is!
May washed her hand and fixed her hair in the mirror. She smiles at her reflection. "It was great running into Ash and Brock. Maybe I can get them to train with me before the Festival" she thought.
May walked out of the bathroom and was surprised to see Ash waiting for her.
"Hey May. Can I talk to you for a sec in private?" Ash asked
"Um sure, I guess." May really wasn't sure where this was going, but followed Ash to a more secluded area.
"So…what do you want to talk about?" May asked
"Look May, I really miss you." Ash said
"Wow Ash, I miss you too."
"Really? You do? Because I was wondering if you would like to come and travel with me again, that way you don't have to travel with Drew anymore, because I know he's your rival and stuff." He rambled on and on excitedly. Then suddenly he grabs May's hands and holds them close to his chest. "And we can get closer." He said with a hopeful smile
May finally realizes why Ash wanted to talk to her, and what he meant by "I really miss you". She looks at Ash, gives him a gentle smile and carefully released her hands from his.
"Look Ash, I've had some of the best moment in my life traveling with you, and I wouldn't trade those in for anything. But I'm sorry that I'm going to have to decline your offer because I'm with Drew."
"Yeah I know you're stuck traveling with Drew because you don't want to travel alone, but if you come with us, you won't have to anymore!" Ash said, not getting what May was saying.
May shook her head "No Ash, you misunderstood me. I'm not traveling with Drew because I have to; I'm traveling with him because I want to. We're…together."
Ash finally caught on to what May was trying to say. "Oh," he replied sadly. "Sorry."
"Hey, don't worry about it. You are a great guy, Ash, and we'll always be good friends. Ok?" May said giving Ash a hug
"Thanks May." Ash said, still feeling a slight pang of defeat. "Come on, let's get back to everyone."
They went back to the table and acted as if nothing happened. May could feel Drew's anxious stare as she sat down. She gave him a warm smile to assure him that everything was fine. Once Drew realized that he wasn't newly single, he immediately relaxed and went be to his food. Ash noticed this exchange and finally understood that they were indeed together, only people that close could do a wordless exchange like that and understand what each other meant.
After the group finished their meal, they said their good-byes and went their separate ways.
Later, in their room, Brock noticed that Ash was being unusually quiet.
"Ash, you've been really quiet since lunch. Are you ok?" Brock asked, even though he knew the reason. He got silence as an answer. He figured Ash just wasn't in the mood to answer, so he went back to the magazine that he was flipping through.
"Say Brock?" Ash finally spoke
"Yeah?"
"Do you think I lost May…you know…to Drew?" Ash asked
"Gee Ash…how do I put it…You were never a contender in the first place." Brock said showing Ash the cover of the magazine he was reading. It showed a series of paparazzi photos of May and Drew along with a caption promising exclusive details on their "whirlwind relationship" inside.
Ash took the magazine from Brock and quickly scanned the article. "So you knew about this all along?" Ash asked Brock, he sounded slightly hurt.
"Well, there had been stories about them for months in the tabloids, but you know how they are, they make up stories to sell copies. So I had my doubts. But seeing Drew have that jealous look in his eyes when you hugged May earlier today, I figured they were a least together" Brock explained.
"Wow, I can't believe I lost May to her rival. Who would've thought them two would end up together?" Ash said.
"Yeah, well you find love in strange places sometimes." Brock said
"Yeah, but man, it sucks to get rejected," Ash said tossing the magazine back to Brock
"Hey, coming from the person who's been rejected too many times to count; you'll get over it." Brock said
"Thanks Brock." Ash said before lying down on his bed
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu, who was previously snoozing by the window, called out. He pointed out the window.
Brock peered out and looked towards the direction Pikachu was pointing to. "Hmm…speaking of the couple; it looks like they're out for a walk right now."
Ash sat up from the bed and walked over to the window and there they were, the couple walking in the park, hand in hand.
Ok that's all for now! Sorry again for taking so long. I've just been so busy with school that I haven't had time to look over what I wrote. Still currently working on this story, but don't have a distinct ending yet.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed the story so far, see you in the next update! (hopefully sooner)
