The big day has finally come, the start of the Grande Festival. The couple woke up in each other's arms. This wasn't an uncommon way for them to greet each other in the morning, except this morning the atmosphere was a bit tenser. For the first time, May and Drew were competing against each other as a couple. Even though they agreed to leave the competition in the arena, they were both secretly unsure if it will be that way. Today will be the ultimate test of the strength of their relationship. Drew looked down at May and smiled
"Well, todays the day." He said
"Today is the day" she repeated before then both got up to get ready.
Not many words were exchanged between the two as they shuffled around the room. And soon, it was time to go.
"Hey May?" Drew said, as they were just about to head out the door. "Yeah?" "Good Luck today" He said
May smiled back, held out her hand from him to hold "Yeah, Good luck." And they both walked out hand in hand.
"Wow, look at the crowd! I wonder how many people are competing." May said as they reached the entrance of the competition building.
"May! Drew!" the couple turned their heads towards the voice.
"Hey Guys! You ready for this?!" Ash said walking up to them. Brock was not far behind.
"Totally! We've prepared months for this, of course we are ready right May?" Drew said looking at May
"Yeah, sure!" May said with a hint of doubt in her voice.
"We'd love to chat, but we have to go register and prepare for the appeals round." Drew said
"Ok, we'll be rooting for you guys! Good luck!" Ash said before they parted ways.
"Come on, let's go register." Drew said leading them to the registration area.
Drew noticed that May was becoming tense again and it seemed like the closer they got to the competitor's room, the more nervous May seemed. So right before they got to the doorway of the room, Drew turned around to face her. "May, are you ok?" He asked placing a hand on her shoulder
"Yeah, I'm totally fine! Hehehe…" May said nervously
"May, I know you're lying. You're doing that nervous laugh you always do when you're not ok." Drew said.
May was surprised how observant Drew was, even she didn't realize she does that. "Ok. I guess I'm just nervous about, you know, Harley. I thought I put that behind me, but I guess I haven't. I don't know what will happen if I have to face him."
"May, you've come so far already. Don't give up now." Drew tilted May's chin up so that she was looking at him. "I'll be here to protect you. Just think of him like every other competitor. May, YOU can do this." Drew said, and then placed a kiss on her forehead.
"Thanks Drew, I'm glad a have a boyfriend like you." May finally smiled a genuine smile.
Drew smiled back, and then quickly turned it into his signature smirk. "Now, give your boyfriend a good luck kiss" he playfully puckered his lips
"Eh, why not." May said before leaning in to kiss him. She gave him a quick peck. "Ok, good luck."
"That's all I get?" Drew said with a fake disappointment. "You'll get more if you get past the appeals round!" May teased before turning the knob to enter the room. She barely made it into the room before she bumped into someone.
"Oh sorry! I didn't notice you were ther-" May suddenly lost her voice when she noticed who it was she bumped into.
"Oh hey May dear! How are you? I was wondering when I was going to see you again! So where's Drew? Isn't he here too? Or did he decide to drop out?" Harley rambled on and on while May stood there feeling like she was going to throw up again. But the feeling of relief ran through her body when she felt Drew place his hand on her. "I'm right here Harley." He glared at Harley, giving him a mental warning to back off. Harley didn't seem to take the hint though.
"Oh… so you guys are still together? Are you sure its ok for both of you to be competing against each other? You never know, you guys could end up facing off and-" Drew noticed Harley's speech freeze and saw that he was looking behind them. He turned to see what Harley was looking at.
"Solidad!" May called out before running over towards her, she was eager to get away from Harley. Drew turned back to Harley. "Remember what we talked about." With that, he followed May.
"Hey guys!" Solidad greeted the couple. "I'd love to chat, but I'm part of the first group going out, so I have to go prepare."
"Ok. Good luck!" May said "Thanks, good luck to you guys too!" with that, Solidad left the couple alone.
Drew turned his attention to May again. "You ok?" He knew what Harley said shook her.
"Yeah I guess." "Look, don't let what Harley said get to you. We've talked about this. No matter what happens at this Festival, no matter who wins, we will be together." Drew said "So relax, and do what you do best. Ok?"
May smiled at him. "Thanks Drew"
"Ok now, I think it's time for us to do our own thing. We are still competing after all." Drew did his signature hair flick.
"Yeah, good luck!" May said giving Drew a peck on the cheek before they went their separate ways.
May sat down on a bench and let Skitty out of her pokeball.
"Skitty! Skit Skit!" Skitty was excited to finally be let out and started chasing her tail.
"Skitty, come here." Skitty immediately obeyed and jumped onto May's lap. She took out a bush and started brushing Skitty's fur. "Skitty, this is an important day for us, so let's do our best ok?"
"Skiiiitty" Skitty nodded.
"Hello Everyone! This is the Grand Festival! And what a group we have here! Today we will see previous Grand Festival finalists, previous winners, newcomers, and everyone in between! So lets get started!" Vivian announced to the crowd
"Here are our judges; Mr. Contesta!"
"I hope to see some amazing things out of these coordinators," Mr. Contesta said
"Mr. Sukizo!"
"It's a remarkable day for a contest!" Mr. Sukizo said
"And last but not least, Nurse Joy!"
"I am honored to be sitting here and seeing these top coordinators first hand. I will do my best." Nurse Joy said
"And I am your host, Vivian!" Vivian announced
"Ok, we have an exciting day ahead to us. So good luck to the contestants and let's get right to it!" Vivian said before clearing the stage and standing next to the judges.
"First up is a previous winner, Solidad!"
With the announcement, Solidad walked to the middle of the arena. She pulls out a poke ball and out came her Butterfree
"Butterfree, use stunspore!" Solidad called out, which Butterfree did as it was told. "Good. Now use whirlwind!" With that, it caused the stunspore to spin into the whirlwind, creating a sparkling twister.
"Ok, now finish off with Psybeam!" The twister exploded into a rainfall of glitter.
"A carefully calculated routine that highlights butterfree's abilities, as expected from a top coordinator." Mr. Contesta commented and gave Solidad a 9.5
"Absolutely Remarkable!" Mr. Sukizo said, giving her a 9.4
"That was a beautiful show!" Nurse Joy said giving her a 9.8, bringing Solidad's total score to 28.7
May watched nervously as the coordinators following Solidad went. There were a lot of strong people out there. It was starting to make her wonder if she had done enough to even make it past the appeals round. Suddenly she felt a hand on her shoulder that made her jump.
"You still nervous?" Drew asked
"A bit." She replied "But, I'm kinda pumped at the same time." She smiled at her boyfriend
"Good, cause I'm up soon. Wish me luck!" Drew said, before leaving.
May continued to watch the coordinators go, slowly counting down to when it's her turn. She really hoped that she had done enough. She had to prove to not only Harley and everyone but to herself as well, that nothing can bring her down.
Ok that's all for now! Theres more contest to come. Just a heads up, I'm not very good at creating/writing detailed battles, I'm gonna try my best to write some, but don't expect too too much xD. Sorry for the delay of updating, schools been piling up for me and I also started writing a Naruto fic. Don't worry, I have no intentions of abandoning this fic, I'm in the process of working out an ending . From the looks of it, there's probably going to be about another 5 or 6 chapters left.
