Despite the tumble in the sheets the couples took, they slept surprisingly well that night. The next morning, May woke up with a burst of positive energy that Drew hadn't seen in a long time; he liked this May.
"Come on Drew! Let's get dressed and get going!" May called as she dragged him out of bed. They got dressed, packed and headed out. They ate a quick breakfast and went to catch the boat; it was time to go home.
"Yay! Petalburg here we go!" May called out as the boat departed from the dock
"You sure are energetic today." Drew came up from behind and wrapped his arms around her waist. "I like it." That statement made May blush.
"Hey look, is that May?"
"What where?"
"Did you hear? She won the Grande Festival yesterday!"
"Really? She beat Solidad? Wow, she must be amazing!"
Drew turned his head slightly; he saw a group of people, some distance behind him whispering about May. He smirked, looks like May has become quite the celebrity overnight. He looked at May and saw that she was blushing. "Maybe you should go talk to them. They seem to be big fans of you."
"Should I?" May still couldn't get used to the idea of "fans". Sure she's had been stopped from time to time and has had her share of tabloid stories, but that she thought was all because of Drew, who was a bigger celebrity. This just felt different somehow.
"Look, is that Drew with her?"
"Oh my god I think it is! did you hear? They're dating!"
"Oh that's so cute!"
Drew chuckled, "Ok how about we both go over."
"Ok." Drew took her hand and led her over to the group of eager fans.
"Oh my god! It really is you guys! I'm a huge fan; can I get a picture with you guys please?"
"Yeah me too!"
Drew smirked and did his signature hair flick, "Yeah sure, we'd love to!"
The couple spent some time with the fans before excusing themselves to the lower decks.
"Wow, that was weird." May said after they were finally alone
"What? The fans? Those weren't even that bad, I've encountered stranger people."
"No, it's just the idea that I HAVE fans that's weird,"
Drew smiled at her, "Hey, that's what happens when you win top coordinator. You'll get used to it."
"Thanks Drew. I just can't wait to go home and get away from everything for a change."
"Well, we'll be there in a few days."
If May thought greeting fans on the boat was strange, she definitely wasn't prepared for the greeting she got once she reached Petalburg.
"Yay we're here!" May cried after seeing the entrance to her hometown. All the familiar buildings and streets brought back nostalgic memories of her childhood. "Come on, home is that way!" She grabbed Drew's hand and started walking towards the direction of home.
"Hey look, everyone, May's home! And she brought a boy!" The couple froze as they felt the ground starting to shake. They looked at each other before looking towards the source of the quake. To their horror, they saw a large group of people stampeding over to them.
Before they can react, they were surrounded.
"Oh May! Congratulations on your win!"
"You are my hero!"
"I'm so happy for you!"
"I remember when you were a little girl, look how you've grown!"
"Hey remember me? We went to school together!"
May was so lost on what to do, so she just smiled and waved. "Hehehe, hey everyone! I'd love to stick around and talk but I need to get home to my family." Unfortunately, her plea went largely unheard as the crowd around her got bigger and bigger. She was starting to think that she'll never make it home when she felt someone tug her arm. "Come with me." She quickly grabbed Drew with her free hand and let the mysterious person lead them out of the crowd and into a secluded area behind a building. "Here put these on," the guy handed the couple hats and sunglasses.
May turned to take the hats and realized that the mysterious person is none other than her brother Max. "Max! it's you!" She hugged her brother tightly
"Yeah yeah it's me, love to talk but we gotta get you home before the crowd realizes that you're gone. Come on!" Max grabbed his sister and led her through the streets with Drew following close behind.
"So how've you been Max? How's mom and dad?" May asked her brother once they got to the quieter part of town.
"I've been pretty good I guess, mom and dad have been busy as ever, but they're really excited that you're coming home." Max replied before turning to look at Drew.
"And hey Drew! Long time no see. I hope you're treating my sister right, or else you're gonna have to go through me!"
"Nice to see you too Max and oh I'm soooo scared." Drew smirked after pretending to be scared of Max's threat.
"Max, don't threaten my boyfriend!"
"Ok ok I'm just messing with you guys. It's been awhile." Max smiled at his sister. He couldn't wait to hear about the adventures from her travels. They walked the rest of the way in silent and soon her house came into view.
"Yay! I'm home!" May cheered before turning to her brother, "race you there!"
Drew watched as the siblings burst into an all-out sprint towards their house. Once they reached the house; Max walked opened the door while May stood outside waiting her Drew to catch up.
"Mom! Dad! May's home!" Max called into the house as he walked in.
May grabbed a hold of Drew's hand once he reached her. "You ok?" Drew asked his girlfriend
May smiled back, "Yeah." And she meant it.
