Years later…
May was sitting in her kitchen having her morning cup of coffee and reading the paper when she felt a tug on her shirt.
"Mommy mommy! Can we go to the park now?" she looked over to see her 5 year old son looking back at her with excitement.
"Really? Right now? You didn't even have breakfast yet. And mommy has some work to do." May said to her son.
"But but, daddy said you promised to bring me."
"I did?" May racked her mind to see when she had made such promises, she realize there could only be one answer to that.
"Drew! Come out here now!" and almost immediately he came downstairs, with their 6 month old daughter in hand.
"Yes honey?" he answered innocently even though he knew why she called him over.
"Did you tell Ash I was going to take him to the park...again." May glared at her husband
Drew smirked, "Hey, it was the only way he'd get out of bed. It's not my fault; he gets his adventure loving from you."
May knew Drew had probably picked up their daughter before coming to her for a reason; he knew she wouldn't yell at him as much when there's a sleepy baby on hand. "Don't you put the blame on me; he's your son too."
"Hey calm down, I'm sorry I did that. I would take him if I could but you know I got an important meeting today. Besides, you've been cooped up in here for days now; I think you can use the fresh air as well."
May sighed; she really hasn't left the house in a while. "I don't know…I'm still behind on all these orders I have to make."
"So…no park?"
May turned to her son to say tell him she'd bring him another time, but then she noticed his pleading eyes, the same ones as Drew's. She let out another sigh, "Fine, I guess we can go to the park for a little bit today."
"Yay!" Ash cheered
"BUT only if you finish your breakfast." May said gesturing to his food that was waiting on the table.
"Ok mommy!" Ash sat down and quickly devoured his breakfast.
May on the other hand, went back to her paper. As she was going through the results of the latest contests in the area, she recognized several of her old rivals were among them. "They're still going strong," she smiled at that thought. Even though she does miss her coordinator days, she doesn't regret putting them behind her. She and Drew had become prominent figures in the Coordinator world in the years following her first Grande Festival win. But eventually, they felt like it was time to pass on their torch to the next generation and settle down.
"Thinking about our competition days?" May looked up to find Drew standing behind her, feeding their daughter.
"Yeah, it's nice to see our rivals still going strong."
"You thinking about going back?" Drew asked seriously.
"Umm…I don't know. I'm pretty happy with where we are now. But who knows, it's always a possibility for the future." May said
"Yeah, the adventure side of you never died."
"Yeah that's true." May smiled at the thought of going on another adventure.
"Mommy I'm done! Can we go now?"
May looked up at her son. "Hang on little one; we have to get ready first."
"Ok I'll go get dressed!" With that, Ash ran off to his room
"Who needs an adventure now? Being a mom to a kid with that much energy is an adventure every day." May thought as she cleared the table.
Less than an hour later, May arrive at the park with her two kids in tow.
"yay! I'm going to go dig for buried treasure!" Ash called as he ran towards the sandbox
"Ok, be careful!" May called back. She pushed the stroller containing her daughter towards a bench nearby and sat down. May had forgotten how much she missed the outdoors; it felt nice to get out of the house for once. She noticed that her daughter was falling asleep so she gently pushed the stroller back and forth; a motion that seemed comforting for the sleepy baby.
"Why hello May, what a surprise it is to see you here! It's been awhile. How've you been?" May looked up and saw none other than Harley walking towards her with two of his kids.
"Oh hey Harley, nice to see you too!" May said
"Hi Auntie May! Is Ash here?" Harley's 5 year old son Andrew asked excitedly.
"Yeah, he's digging for treasure over there." May pointed towards the sandbox and Andrew bolted.
Harley watched until his son had safely reached the sandbox before turning back to May, "mind if I join you?"
May pushed her daughter's stroller over to make room for Harley and his 2 year old son who was still in his arms. "I think he wants you to hold him." Harley said, looking at his son, who was reaching over to May.
May reached out to take the little boy. "Hey Sammy, how are you?" Sammy giggled and patted May's face in reply. May smiled.
"He sure takes after me don't you think? Look at him, he's only 2 and he's already trying to win over the ladies." Harley said proudly
"Well, if he's going to be anything like his father, he's going to keep failing until the right one comes by." May teased.
Harley pretended to look hurt before changing the subject, "So how's everything? Drew doing ok?"
"Yeah, Drew's fine. He can finally cut back on his hours at the company now that I'm officially off maternity leave. I'm trying to catch up on all my orders since I've gotten back." May replied
"So I'm guessing your special organic Pokeblock business is still going strong huh?"
"Yeah, who knew I would end up making a living out of it?" May said. "So how's everything on your end? How's Mayley and Solidad doing?"
"Oh Mayley's doing fine, she's just growing up too fast. Hard to believe she's leaving us for her own journey in a year." Harley dramatically wiped away an imaginary tear.
"Yeah they sure grow up fast. I'm gonna miss them when my kids are old enough to leave. But it's a good thing we have more than one kid right?" May said jokingly
"Yeah, at least I'll still have my hands full with these little ones plus the one on the way. Solidad looks like she's going to pop any day now." Harley said
May laughed at the image of Solidad 'popping', "Oh I'm sure she'd tell you when she's ready. You've been saying she's going to pop for the past 2 months."
"But I mean it this time! I don't think her belly can get any bigger!" Harley said with a worried look on his face.
"Calm down Harley! Don't ever let Solidad hear you say that. Sheesh, seeing that this is your 4th kid, shouldn't you be used to this by now?"
"I know I know, but the same feeling goes through you mind with every kid you know?" Harley said before leaning back on the bench and watching Andrew and Ash dig in the sandbox. "Like, will I be a good father to them, will they like me, and what if I drop them on their head?"
"Hey, relax. You're already raising 3 kids, and look at how they're turning out. You're doing fine." May said, and she meant it.
"Thanks May." Harley said sincerely. "So what about you and Drew? You guy's planning to have more kids?"
"Well, we haven't really talked about it much. Our hands are already pretty full with these 2, but it's not entirely out of the question. You know, raising kids is an adventure it itself." May smiled at the thought of more kids.
"Yeah, we all know about you and your love of adventures." Harley said. Shortly after, his phone rang.
"Hello? Hey Sol, yeah I'm in the park with the kid…ok I'm sitting down, why?"
May watched curiously, wondering what's going on. Suddenly Harley sprang up from his seat.
"Whattt!? It's time?! Ok…Ok…Yeah…Hang on I'll be right there!" Harley hung up his phone and turned to May.
"Umm is everything ok?" May asked
"Look, I need a huge favor. Can you please watch Andrew and Sammy for a bit? Solidad said she's feeling contractions and they're pretty close so we're going to go to the hospital."
"Ok, yeah sure. Of course I'll look after them. Drew should be off work early today anyways." May said
"Great! Thank you so much! Mayley's at a friend's house so she should be fine there. Ok I gotta go. Thanks again May! I owe you one."
"Sure. Make sure you give us a call if you get any news!" May called out as Harley took off to tend to his wife.
"I will!"
"May sat back and looked at Sammy who was looking at her curiously. "Don't worry little one. Your daddy is going to check on your mommy. You might have a new baby brother or sister soon!"
"Babe!" Sammy said pointing at May's daughter.
"Yes a baby." May smiled at Sammy. Then she looked at Ash and Andrew who were too busy digging to notice that Harley had left.
She thought back to how her life had become what it is today. Harley had kept his promise and had become a better man. They both put what had happened between them in the past and moved on forward. Who would've guess that they would become such good friends today? And their friendship had passed on to the next generation. May had eventually realized; she didn't have to go out to look for an adventure. Life was an adventure in itself. The journeys she had taken, the people she met, and the things she experienced; all of them were part of one big journey in the road to becoming who she is, the Road to May.
There you have it, the epilogue for this story. I originally was going to upload this months ago, but I wasn't sure if it went with the story, so I put it off. Hope you guys enjoyed it!
I have debated on the idea of writing a sequel to this story but I don't have a good plot going just yet. Currently still trying to finish up my Naruto story and I have an Ouran High School Host club story in the works. So I guess we'll see what happens in the future. Who knows? I might write another Contestshipping or some other pokemon shipping story someday. Ok thanks for sticking by and I guess I'll see you around!
