A/N- Hi everyone! This is going to be another partial chapter and I apologize for that but I've been sitting in a waiting room for a half an hour and decided to post what I had of the story on my phone. I will post the rest of this chapter tonight or tomorrow until then enjoy!
Stupid leech lover. Who does she think she is coming on to our rez and telling us what to do. As if it wasn't bad enough just having to put up with her in the first place then she uses her whiles to get Embry and Quil on her side and to top it all off she has some over grown blonde giant to parade around in front of Jake.
Dirty slut.
Leah was right she's just some supernatural groupie. I saw how Jake reacted to seeing Bella with that asshole. It won't be long before she breaks him again and that was something I can't let happen.
Sneaking away was easier than I thought not that I was complaining. I silently worked my way threw the woods to a spot just behind the Clearwater s. Most people in the tribe assumed that the largest and most secluded areas because of the fact that they were all members of the tribal council, when in fact it was the need for secrecy for the pack.
I waited in a particularly dense area of trees until I saw Deerstew or whatever his name was leave slamming the door shut on his way out.
Someone's in a bad mood I guess wasn't as good of a lay as he remembered.
I sat there long enough for Deerpiss to get halfway back to Old Quil's. This conversation was private. It was time Bella Swan learned she need led to leave La Push for good.
I flopped down on the bare mattress silently screaming my frustraions. Never had I been so angry at Drustan. Sure we'd gotten into little disagreements but nothing this substantial. I felt angry and betrayed, how dare he give me an ultimatum! What I chose to tell Jake was my business.
"If your not going to fight for your happiness I'll do it for you because my name is Drustan and I know everything. " I mimicked in a nasal expression of my best friend.
Doesn't he get it? I can't tell Jake the truth because he would forgive me and then what? We still couldn't be together. He is alpha of his pack and chief of his tribe permanently tied to La Push while my mission as a Bellatore De Lumine caused me to travel all over the world chasing the most sinister beings in existence. I can't stay and he can't go it's better for Jake to hate me. Maybe after seeing me he can move on (if he hasn't already) and live the life he was meant to. Jake deserves all the happiness life can give, a normal life with kids playing In the back yard and a loving wife eagerly waiting for him to get home. I would never be able to give him that life.
I love Jacob Black with my entire heart and soul, no matter how long I walk the earth there will never be anyone else but him. It's because I love him so much that I have to let him go. When you truly love someone you always put their needs first and do whatever it takes to do what's best for them even if that included tearing your own heart into a million pieces never to be put back together.
"Bella!"
"Who could that be?" I asked myself as I walked over to the window. My question was quickly answered when I saw an irate Paul Lahote standing in the clearing behind the house. Wknderful, he was the last person I wanted to see except for maybe Leah, they were a tie for first place on the "People Bella Doesn't Want to Put Up With Today." list. I slowly walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs hoping that if I took long enough he'd leave. Apparently that was just wish full thinking on my part.
"Come on I saw lover boy leave it shouldn't take that long to get dressed."
Great more slutty jokes.
It looked like Paul couldn't insult someone unless it involved sex...very original. I clenched my fists in an attempt to rein in my anger.
"You have until I count to three to come out or Ill-"
"Or you'll what, huff and puff and blow the house down?" I asked as I confidently walked off of the back porch my voice dripping with sarcasm. Paul's eyes narrowed and a menacing growl raced from his lips. If he where anyone else I would have been impressed by his natural show of intimidation but he wasn't anyone else he was Paul Lahote who had done nothing but be little and insult me since I arrived. After my encounter with Jacob and my argument with Drustan my temper was itching to lash out and Paul seemed like a perfect target.
"If you're looking to scare somebody you've come to the wrong place I don't scare easy."
I step closer leaving only ten feet or so between us.
" I'm not here to scare you, though it would have been a plus ." Paul placed his hands on his hips and widened his stance casting off a cooky persona. Only the slight shake visible only to my enhanced vision gave his anger away.
"I'm here to give you a message."
I fought the urge to roll my eyes.
"Well spit it out I don't have all day and the less time I spend around you the better."
"You're not wanted here. It's time for you to leave."
I did roll my eyes at that.
"Is that what you forced me out here for? This isn't about the past I'm here as a Warrior of Light your chief called us for help."
"When Jake agreed to your help he never thought it would mean bringing you back into our lives!"
"So what you think if he knew he wouldn't have asked for help? You think he would let me come between him and protecting the tribe? You don't know him as well as you think you do." I spat angry at the fact Paul believed Jacob would dismiss his obligations like that.
"You think I don't know him? I share his mind with him everyday I know him better than you ever did. You want to know what I see in his head? Everyday I see how much he hates you! So yes I know if it meant seeing you again, unless it was to burn you once you became a Cullen he would never agreed for you to come here."
His words hit me harder than a slap in the face. Paul took my stunned silence as a victory and smiled at my obvious pain.
"Did you think he'd be sitting here pinning over you? Get a grip Swan, the only time he thought about you was to imagine how he would kill you when you came back as one of them. We all helped, everyone wanted a piece of the leech lover. Looks like that won't happen now even that bloodsucker couldn't put up with you for very long. Stupid bitch you're not even good enough for a vampire." he spat.
With his last statement my anger returned in full force. My pulse pounds in my ears and my light hummed just beneath my skin. I pushed it down as far as it would go but it wouldn't go far.
"I didn't hear Embry and Quil complaining this morning when I saved their lives by killing the wendigo."
"Quil and Embry are traitors!" he roared shaking violently.
"If the pack had been there we would have handled the situation ourselves."
"It's your fault the pack wasn't there in the first place! If I wasn't there both of your pack brothers would be dead right now and everyone would be blaming you!" I shouted back.
Was it the truth? Completely. If the worst would have happened and the wendigo would have killed Quil and Embry the pack would have blamed Paul for their deaths because he wasn't there when he should have been. Any normal person would have heard this mornings events and realized how their actions or lack there of nearly cost two people their lives and reevaluate how they did tjings. However Paul Lahote was not a normal person.
I watched as his clothes burst falling at the feet of a large silver and gray wolf. Time seemed to slow as the wolf snapped it's jaws and lunged for me. My light burned with intensity trying to release my weapons and armour from beneath my skIn. I held it in causing my insides to boil but I couldn't release my light, instinct would take over and I would kill Paul which I couldn't do...could I? No. Killing him wasn't an option.
As a Warrior of Light I could kill someone just because they were an asshole...not matter how much I wanted to.
Paul's jaws were inches from my fave when we crashed to the ground. His claws cut threw the flimsy cotton shirt into my skin. My armor burned begging to be used but I held it back. Fighting Paul as a Warrior of Light would know disgrace all Warriors of Light past and present. This wasn't about me being a warrior this was about my past and what I did to Jake, or what they thought I did to Jake. I would not fight him. Not for trying to protect Jacob. Which was what Paul was trying to do even if he was going about it in such a violent way but honestly who would expect anything less from him?
His jaws snapped slobber dripping on to my face as I shoved my Palm under his muzzle deflecting the bite. I wrapped my fists into the scruff at the base of his neck and pulled his head down and to the side his mouth aimed under his front left leg.
"Bella!"
I turned my head and my stomach dropped. Charlie was running down the hill towards us. Paul used my moment of distraction to lift his head enough to sink his teeth into my arm. I cried out as I felt his teeth tear threw my flesh. My aura broke free enveloping me in my green light. I went to call my armor but never got the chance because Charlie raised his gun and aimed it at Paul's head.
In that second three things flashed through my mind. One: shifters were fast healers but with a bullet to the head fast healing wouldn't mean a thing; Two: I loved Charlie. Renee would never charge a horse size wolf to try and save me; and three: this was gonna hurt.
I pulled ignoring the pain in my left arm as I twisted janking Paul to the ground and rolling my body over his protectively. The gun shot boomed and I felt the bullet sink into my back and into my lung.
Charlie Swan was just getting home from his last day of work as a single man. He was getting married tomorrow. He still couldn't believe Sue said yes. After Renee left him taking Bella with her he gave up on the idea of love. Bella was probably under the impression he just let Renee take her away when in reality he fought tooth and nail for her. He took Renee to court but that was twenty years ago and custody was never taken away from the mother unless they went to jail or you could prove they were on drugs or abusing the child. The judge quickly dismissed Charlie's motion for custody and even allowed Renee to move out of state.
Most people assumed Charlie never dated after his divorce because he was still in love with his ex wife. Those people were dead wrong. He hated Renee. He hated her for giving up on their marriage with out really trying. He hated her for taking his daughter and reason for living all over the country chasing one crazy dream after another. He hated her for forcing his daughter to grow up and take on the responsibility of an adult by the age of ten. Most kids that age only had to worry about what game to play on the playground while Bella had to worry about if she sent the electric bill out in time or if it was going to be disconnected again. No, Charlie Swan didn't avoid dating because he was still in love, he refused to date because he swore he'd never give someone else the power to destroy him again.
He shook his head to clear his mind he had Sue who he loved and trusted completely. Plus his daughter had finally come home for the first time in six long years. Her homecoming wasn't exactly what he expected. Just thinking of the way Paul and Leah treated her caused his blood to boil. He had no idea why they reacted the way they did. Bella left six years ago and as far as he knew she'd barely known them.
He'd meant what he said when he told Bella they were a package deal. When Old Quil came and offered her a place to stay he was suspious, they were acting too familiar with one another.
Charlie was worried about his daughter something wasn't right but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. So the next morning he stopped by Old Quil's to make sure she was really okay and was surprised at what he saw. The two of them were laughing and joking while they cleaned Old Quil's house. They worked in unison as if they'd been working side by side for years poking fun and teasing each other as if they were old friends. Bella rushed to hug him when they finally noticed him in the dorrway. She quickly assured him that she was fine and was more than happy to stay with Old Quil. Charlie left with jealousy burning his stomach. How was it a man who hadn't seen her in six years could get along with his daughter so we'll while it took him six years to get to where they were now?
He put the car in park and got out of the cruiser. He shut the door and raised his arms over his head stretching when he heard someone shouting his daughter's name from the empty house over the hill. The house was kept empty, only bused when a member of a visiting tribes council needed to stay overnight which was rare.
What would Bella be doing there?
The shouting got louder as he heard his daughter's voice join in the arguement. He could hear some of what they were saying but none of it made any sense. Why were they yelling about leeches and what the hell was a Wendy Go? Was it some new fast food place in town?
When he got to the top of the hill he stopped dead in his tracks and barely resisted the urge to pinch him self to make sure he hadn't fallen asleep at the station and this wasn't a dream. He had expected to find Paul or one of the guys Jake usually hung out with arguing with his daughter, what he found was the largest wolf he'd ever seen pinning his daughter beneath it while she tried to avoid it's snapping jaws. He thought he heard himself shout her name as he sprinted down the hill, his only thought was to get that monster away from his daughter. Her eyes met his and they flashed from shock to fear. Her scream as the wolf clamped it's jaws on to her arm snapped him back to himself
He was a police officer in uniform, he'd been so concerned about Bella he forgot about the gun holstered on his hip. Instinct took over as he pulled it out aimed and pulled the trigger.
The moment Drustan entered the house Harrison and Old Quil knew something was wrong, they could feel it threw the bond and see it written all over Drustan's face.
"Where's Bella?" Embry asked as Drustan began to make his way over to Harrison.
"She'll be along in a few minutes she said to go ahead and start with out her." he said over her shoulder as he continued to the other side of the room.
"Must of been quite the reunion if she still can't walk." Quil laughed
Drustan not used to Quil's crude behavior turned and was ready to inform Quil where he could stick his questions but his snarky reply was cut off by Jacob's warning growl.
Harrison quickly took change of the situation by asking Embry and Quil to explain the events from this morning.
Drustan attempted to listen but his mind was focused on Bella. She looked so hurt when he left, he hated leaving her like that but being with Jacob would make her happy and he'd do anything to make that happen. He reached out to her threw their bond hoping she would feel how much he cared about her. He was not suprised when he was met with an intense sadness and anger. He heard a chorus of growls when Embry mentioned Paul had skipped patrol leaving Quil and Embry without a way to call the pack for help. Drustan looked around the room and noticed Paul was no where in sight.
Without any warning he doubled over his light pulsing and an intense pain burning in his chest and back.
"Angel!" he screamed in a panic realizing what the pain meant.
Harrison and Old Quil were by his side in an instant.
"Bella's hurt." he rasped and all three men tore out the door in a blur.
The trio crested the hill seconds after Drustan felt Bella's pain. Rage flooded his veins his warrior instantly unleashed in a burst of blue light. He glanced to his right and saw Harrison clad in his armor and weapons while Old Quil remained human. Instinctively the trio moved as one.
Drustan sent an icy blast of water with triple the force of a fire hose at Paul lifting him fifteen feet into the air before crashing to the ground in a bone snapping crunch. Harrison ran up behind Charlie shoving him back into Old Quil's arms rushing past them to kneel at Bella's side. Old Quil wrestled Charlie to the ground ripping the gun from his hands to toss it into the woods. He could see the fear and confusion in Charlie's eyes as he held him pinned to the ground.
Harrison knelt by Bella's side and pure anger filled him at the sight of blood dripping from her nose and mouth. He pulled his light into his hands and pressed them to her chest forcing it into her body to meet hers. Silver and green intertwined together under her skin healing any injuries in their path. Loud howls ripped throught the air as the pack charged down the hill unto the clearing.
Jacob, Quil, and Embry were know a few steps behind Old Quil as he ran from the house. Phasing on the fly they charged after him only to quickly disappear on the horizon. Quil and Embry both wondered how it was possible for Old Quil to out run them while Jacob's mind was only focused on getting to Bella.
The rest of the pack phased and snarled as they saw a wall of water throw their pack brother to the ground breaking a few of his ribs in the process. They saw Drustan stalking towards Paul surrounded by a blue light looking as if he were there to distribute death. They howled in anger as they crested the hill how dare he attack a member of the pack.
Sam and Jared charged down the hill straight towards Drustan both lunging at his back. Drustan heard the wolves approach and just as they left the ground he rolled over his shoulder underneath Jared and back on to his feet.
Harrison's healing light followed Bella's to the wound in her lung Due to her natural rapid healing capabilities the wound was sealed trapping the bullet. It had to be removed but the only way to do that would be painful and dangerous. Harrison couldn't remove the bullet without Drustan immediately healing the wound he would create being him. Green and silver pulsed under her skin filling her with warmth.
Old Quil shoved Charlie hard in the chest bringing the panicking man's attention back to him.
"Stay down and don't move this isn't your fight." he ordered before chasing after Leah who had just sprinted past.
Old Quil knew Leah would use this as an opportunity to go for Bella. She was the fastest wolf in the pack and his human form was no match for her. His wolf snapped at the surface demanding to be released to protect his pack. With a feral snarl Old Quil let the wolf loose.
Paul whimpered as he hit the ground. What the hell just happened? One minute he was teaching the leech lover a lesson and the next thing he knew he was being tossed in the air like a rag doll.
Jacob saw his jaws close on Bella's arm. He tasted the blood on his tongue as his razor sharp canines tore into her flesh and muscle scraping the bone. If he squeezed just a little bit harder it would snap between his jaws. Jacob charged Paul in a blind rage after seeing him replay the attack in his mind. The wolf took control demanding blood in payment for injuring his mate. Paul Lahote had just signed his death warrant.
