A/N- Hello all! Here is the rest of chapter 6 I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Once again I would like to apologize for all the spelling and grammar mistakes with this story. I have no beta and have never professed to be an expert at writing I wish I paid more attention in English class but alas I didn't. For me writing is a hobby only so please over look any mistakes or message me and I'll be sure to correct them.
Leah was a wolf on a mission, she'd seen Paul's memories through the pack mind. He may have failed to end the pale face bitch but she'd finish what he started. She barreled past Old Quil who was wrestling with Charlie on the ground. She saw Embry running at her from the left but was surprised when his jaws clamped down on her flank. She spun her body and latched on to his head by the base of his ear.
Traitor! she roared.
She tightened her jaws and shook her head back and forth rapidly. Embry yelped in pain and she released him leaving his ear dangling by a few centimeters of skin. Before she could head for Bella again Quil rammed into her sending them both rolling across the grass. Leah struck out with her legs her claws slicing into his exposed stomach. Using her moment of advantage she shot to her feet.
She was so close. Only a few more feet and she'd have her.
Harrison sent a burst of wind at the charging gray wolf lifting her into the air directly in the path of Old Quil. Old Quil used his large size to force Leah onto her back clamping his jaws on her throat, applying just enough pressure to cut off some of her air with out drawing blood. Leah snapped and twisted causing his teeth to bite deeper into her skin. She tried to swipe her claws against his chest only to have the snow White wolf rake his claws into her stomach. She felt blood seep into her fur and had non choice but to lay still under the mystery wolf's jaws.
Charlie was hallucinating. He had a bad trip on mushrooms as a teenager where he was convinced the trees behind his parents she'd were attacking him but this was on a whole knew level of hallucination. He sat up and scanned the chaos around him in one side of the clearing. Someone who resembled Thor was fighting off three massive wolves and shooting water out of his hand. On the other side more wolves were fighting amongst themselves next to the guy from brave heart who was kneeling next to his daughter.
Bella!
Hallucination or not his paternal instincts kicked in and he raced towards his daughter. He reached for his gun but cursed remembering Old Quil had thrown it somewhere after he tackled him. Grabbing the only weapons he had left he pulled out his night stick and taser. He was slightly winded but full of adrenaline as he sprinted towards his daughter and found his path blocked by a sandy colored wolf. Charlie skidded to a halt as the wolf began to circle him herding him away from Bella. He tried to juke around it but the wolf just growled low in its throat and slunk closer to him. Charlie swung out with his night stick but only managed to hit air as the wolf dogged out of the way of the blow bringing it's massive head barely a foot away. Charlie pulled the trigger of his taser causing the two barbed probes connecting with the wolf's face.
Drustan leapt out of the way as a massive russet wolf charged the silver and gray wolf that attacked Bella. He was momentarily taken aback by his size. Harrison had said Old Quil was the largest wolf he'd ever encountered but this wolf (who could only be Jacob Black ) was both larger in size and muscle mass. He watched as the two wolves fought viciously against one another.
Bella felt Harrison's light leave her body and sat up taking in her surroundings. Although only a minute or two had passed since he'd reached her side a war zone had erupted around them. Bella saw Old Quil latched on to Leah's throat and Charlie tasing Seth.
Wait...what?
Oh my god her Dad was really tasing poor Seth!
"Harrison!" she shouted pointing in her father's direction.
Harrison understood and surrounded Charlie in a swirl of wind separating from the battle around him. Bella saw Sam and Jared circling Drustan and rushed to his side. At Paul's yelp the two wolves turned and surrounded Jake and Paul screaming out in the pack mind for their Alpha to stop but their pleas fell on deaf ears.
"We have to stop this!"
Drustan grabbed her arm keeping her from intervening.
"He deserves worse than this. He's lucky I didn't kill him myself." Drustan said his voice full of venom and his light pulsing in anger.
Bella stood frozen in place watching Jacob mercilessly tear into Paul. He snapped, clawed, bit, and slashed every inch of the silver and gray wolf. Paul was covered in blood, it dripped off his coat and onto the ground beneath him. He stumbled and Jake pressed his weight against him shoving Paul to the ground. Jake wasted no time clenching around Paul's throat, unlike Old Quil he wasn't going for submission he was going for the kill.
Sam and Jared were barking and howling trying to snap Jake out of his blood rage.
"He's going to kill him we have to stop this!"
Bella looked to Drustan expecting him to agree bit was shocked when he answered "No." in a deadly tone.
"Fine I'll do it myself then" Bella snapped.
Wasting no time she pushed her light into the ground creating a steep slope under Jacob's feet causing him to slide backwards away from Paul. When reached the bottom she created four walls of solid rock ten feet high and two feet thick boxing him. Jacob howled his outrage as he tried to claw and scratch his way out. Sam and Jared whirled snarling at the new threat to their Alpha as Harrison and Drustan stepped in front of her while Embry and Quil stationed themselves behind her guarding her back.
"Jake you need to calm down!" she shouted over the noise.
The howling stopped and everyone held a collective breath.
"Bella did you do this?" Jacob shouted in disbelief.
He had obviously phased but still sounded extremely angry only this time his anger was directed at her.
"Yes."
"Let me out of here!" he screamed smashing his fists against the wall creating a crack.
"Drustan go inside and get a pair of jeans for Jake."
Drustan's head snapped in her direction as fast as a cobra strike and he eyed her like she'd grown a second head. There was absolutely nothing she could say to him that would make him leave her side. He was barely containing himself from finishing off the wolf who'dr been stupid enough to attack her.
Bella groaned in frustration and turned her pleading eyes to Embry who quickly trotted towards the house phasing a few feet away from the back porch. Bella quickly turned her head once she realized he was naked. She guessed that his shorts were shredded or lost in the fight.
Bella stepped forward toward the rock enclosure; Harrison, Drustan, and Quil matching her every step. She could hear the rock splintering under the barrage of Jacob's fists and was a more than a little impressed by his raw strength.
"Jake I need you you to calm down. You and Harrison need to talk."
"All I need is for you to let me the Fuck out of here!" he roared.
Bella's temper flared to life it was barely noon and she'd already killed a wendigo, been attacked by Paul, and been shot. She was not in the mood to deal with any more shifter temper tantrums.
"I don't have the time or the patience to deal with this right now! I need Harrison and Drustan to take this damn bullet out of my chest and they can't do that until Harrison has spoken to the alpha of the pack about what just happened. So you're going to calm down long enough to follow us inside to settle this is that understood?" with very word that passed her lips the louder her voice became.
Embry must have returned at some point during her rant because she found herself holding a folded pair of jeans.
Jacob's furious pacing stopped the moment he heard about Bella being injured. How the hell did she get a bullet in her chest? Was she okay? He'd been so focused on punishing Paul he must have missed her being hurt. Jacob's insides twisted as he tried to gain control of his wolf who was begging to make sure she was okay.
"Fine just let me out of here." he grumbled.
Bella tossed the jeans into the air so Harrison could float them up and over the wall and down to Jacob. She waited until she heard the zipper before allowing the walls to sink back into the ground.
"Leah and Paul, the two of you will go home and remain inside until I say otherwise. The rest of you can go and get cleaned up then come back here there are a lot of questions I will be getting answers to." Jacob ordered power rolling off of him in waves sending a flash of heat to the pit of Bella's stomach as he stalked past them towards the house.
"Jacob, I can heal their injuries." Harrison offered motioning towards Paul and Leah.
Quil looked at the kilt clad man in disbelief Leah and Paul didn't deserve an ounce of pity in his opinion, he didn't realize that Harrison was testing Jacob.
Jacob turned to face Harrison with his mouth set in a hard line.
"No let them feel the consequences of their actions." he growled turning his back to them again.
Harrison was impressed, maybe there was hope for this young alpha yet.
Sam and Jared lifted Paul since he was unable to stand on his own and dissappear ed into the woods heading towards his house. Seth went to help up his sister who had just been released by an unknown white wolf, putting a supporting arm around her he helped he lamp home.
Drustan wrapped Bella into a comforting hug happy that nothing to serious had happened to her. Harrison and Old Quil joined the two and the white wolf proceed to sniff and nuzzle his granddaughter check8ng for any injuries.
"Och Charlie!" Harrison exclaimed releasing his hold on the swirling winds that surrounded the forgotten police chief. Harrison looked at Bella sheepishly as she ran past him to her father's side.
"Oh good you're okay, I tassed a giant wolf." he mumbled before fainting Into her arms.
"I bet he never thought he'd say that." Drustan chuckled taking Charlie from Bella and following her inside.
Upon Entering The House Bella followed Drustan up the stairs to the room she would be using. She watched as Drustan gently placed him on the bed before she began pulling pieces of grass and dirt out of his hair. Drustan put his arm around her shoulder and pulled her against his side. The two stood there like that for a few moments having a silent conversation where no words or looks were needed. Both assuring the other that no matter what happened next they would handle it together as a group.
Meanwhile down stairs Embry sat at one of the four chairs around the kitchen table observing the other two men in the room. Jacob stood tall and stiff glaring in the direction of the staircase while Bella's fellow warrior calmly leaned against the counter his calculating eyes never leaving Jacob.
Embry was still trying to wrap his mind around the events from moments before. He had attacked a member of his own pack and so had Quil. He was both proud and horrified with himself. Proud because he knew Leah was not trying to hurt Bella, she was trying to kill her, she hadn't even tried to hide her murderous thoughts from the pack mind. He acted instinctively to protect Bella which is what horrified him. Pack instinct should always be to protect the pack first. Yes there was and always would be in pack fighting but they would always unite together against an enemy. Yet today he chose to fight for the other side without a moments hesitation and would gladly do so again.
He hissed in annoyance when his ear began ringing and lifted his hand to the mangled mess. He drew his fingers back and wiped the blood from his fingers on to his shorts they were Drustan's anyway. Embry felt a light touch on the side of his head and and soothing warmth filled him. Glancing over his shoulder he smiled at Bella thanking her for healing him for the second time today.
"Using your voodoo powers again Bella?" Quil teased as he followed his grandfather into the kitchen area.
"I told you I don't have voodoo powers." Bella replied rolling her eyes.
"Where did you two disappear to anyway?" she asked.
"To get clothes. When Leah went for you I phased on the fly and if you haven't noticed you're in need of a new pair yourself." Old Quil answered with a smile.
For the first time Bella looked down at her appearance and was surprised. Her once long sleeved shirt was sliced open in the front barley covering her chest while her back and jeans were covered in blood. She was sure she looked like a hot mess but couldn't bring herself to care.
"Thanks." she said giving Old Quil and affectionate smile as he walked over to hand her a pair of jeans with a shirt wrapped inside.
"Before you put those on we should probably get that bullet out of you." Harrison sugested.
Bella shrugged her shoulders taking the empty seat next to Embry. Drustan came to stand behind her placing both hands on her back, she turned slightly to give him better access.
"Do you want to do it yourself or would you rather I do it?" Harrison asked gemtly.
"I'll do it."
"Okay you're going to have to use your light to turn and propel the bullet out of your chest. Use your light to create a hole while Drustan-"
"This isn't my first rodeo. I've got this don't worry." Bella interrupted with a smirk.
At exactly the same time both Drustan and Bella called their light which immediately blended together surrounding them in a dancing combination of blue and green. Closing their eyes they were able to see the path their light was taking under her skin. They guided it into her lung to the bullet resting at the bottom against the organs soft tissue.
"{Do you want to go slow or one big push?}" she heard Drustan ask in her mind.
It had taken them all by surprise to find out that when the two of them were in contact with their light they were able to communicate telepathically with one another. So far Harrison had not been able to find an answer as to why their minds were linked this way seeing as in the past only a fully bonded and mated pair were granted this gift. It was true that the bond between Bella and Drustan was much stronger than any before them but they would never be bound as mates. No matter the how and why the pair found this gift to be extremely useful especially when planning and pulling on Old Quil and less frequently Harrison.
{One big push, just like ripping off a band aid.} she answered silently.
{Okay ready whenever you are.}
{On the count of three.}
Bella separated her light from Drustan's and aimed the bullet in the direction she wanted it to go.
{One...two...three!} they counted in unison before the light that was inside Bella and encasing both their bodies intenisfied.
It only took a little over a minute for Bella to force the bullet through her lung tissue, through her chest cavity, and out of her body sending it tumbling to the ground between her feet while Drustan just as quickly healed the injuries she caused.
Embry blinked a few times and with a look of shock he reached down and plucked the bullet off of the floor noticing that it felt warm to the touch. With his wolf body running at a sunny 108° it was obvious that the bullet would have burnt a normal person if they were to touch it. Bella got up and hid behind the dividing wall to put on her fresh set of clothes.
"I think Quil might be right you do have voodoo powers. " he breathed rolling the bullet between his thumb and index finger in front of his eye.
"I told you!" Quil whooped triumphantl as Bella groaned.
"Please do not encourage him Em." she pleaded sitting back down next to Embry.
Embry smiled at the use of his nickname, he wondered if she even realized she had used it. Before he could respond the back door opened and in walked Seth and Jared followed by Sam who was pushing Billy Black.
"So what'd we miss?" Seth asked in his unique happy go lucky way.
"It was awesome! Bella and uh...what's your name again man?" Quil asked turning to Drustan.
"Drustan."
"Right well Bella and Drustan used their "voodoo powers" to push a bullet out of her chest and on to the floor. She didn't even flinch!" Once again jazz hands accompanied the term voodoo powers as Quill bounced in his seat excitedly.
"Voodoo powers? Bullet? What are you talking about?" Seth asked confused.
"He means that green light Bella gives off that she used to heal Quil and I...and this bullet." Embry explained whipping the still warm bullet at Seth who easily snagged it out of the air and began examining it.
"How did you get shot?" Billy asked addressing Bella for the first time since she arrived on the reaervation, though his voice wasn't entirely hostile It wasn't friendly either.
"Charlie." she replied tersely not in the mood to play polite.
"Charlie? What happened?" Billy asked shocked.
"He stumbled on to an...age um en I was having with Paul."
"Ha! Argument my ass that damn wold attacked you!"
Jared and Sam growled causing Drustan to his full height and clench his fists.
"Jacob I need to know if this is going to affect you decision to allow us to help your pack." Harrison stated deciding it was time to get down to business.
Jacob opened his mouth to answer but was cut off by Bella.
"Weather or not you want our help I will be staying for the wedding tomorrow." Bella stated in a tone that offered no arguement with a look of pure determination. She had meant the promises she made to herself about being a better daughter to Charlie and she would not allow anyone to stop her from keeping them.
"And that means we'll be staying with her." Drustan stated equally as determined.
His features softened as he gazed down at Bella placing his hand on her shoulder.
"Don't fight me on this Angel. You know I won't be able to leave you." he pleaded.
He calmed slightly when Bella reached her hand up and placed it on his.
"I know and I wouldn't ask you do that." she said squeezing his hand reassuringly.
Jacob's stomach twisted and he began to feel nauseous, their open display of affection was enough to make him puke.
"How do we know you won't attack us again if you stay?" Sam asked his voice thick with unspoken accusations.
"Paul attacked me not the other way around." Bella snapped.
"That doesn't excuse the fact that he attacked numerous pack members." Sam half shouted pointing at Drustan.
"The only injuries your pack sustained were caused by each other or for attacking a Warrior of Light. You should count yourselves lucky if it wasn't for Bella asking asking for mercy on your behalf both Paul and Leah would be dead right now. Even though mercy was granted this time I want to make it perfectly clear if anyone tries to harm Bella again I will not hesitate to eliminate the threat." Drustan seethed his voice ice cold fury his eyes boring into Sam daring him to argue.
"Paul and Leah will be dealt with but it seems that you haven't been completely honest with us and I expect answers before if I can decide if you will be aloud to stay on Quiliette land." Jacob demanded looking directly at Old Quil.
Old Quil hung his head and sighed, he knew he had no choice but to reveal the truth he only hoped he wouldn't be banned from the tribe after he was done. The Warriors all moved as one to comfort the unofficial Warrior of Light. Bella rushed to his side wrapping one arm around his waist, Harrison moved to stand on his other side clasping his hand on his old friends shoulder, and Drustan stood on the other side of Bella smiling at Old Quil reassuringly. All of the Warriors sent their feelings of love and acceptance through their bond. Old Quil stood up straight holding his head high. His heart warmed at their support, he had nothing to be ashamed of.
The pack and Billy were surprised by the display
. The way the four of them stood together was intense and inspiring, their connection was so strong it was almost a physical thing like cables attaching them together.
With one last reassuring squeeze from his granddaughter Old Quil began his tale.
"Thirty years ago a woman came to me in a dream. She walked me around the reservation which had been reduced to rubble. Not a single building or home was left standing, the forest burned around us, and bodies of men, women, and children lined the streets. She told me that I had been chosen to help around group of people who could stop the destruction and bring light into the world. She told me I would have to be strong and trust my instincts. A few months later I woke up angry at the world. I got into a fight with my boss and quit my job, on my way home I decided to stop at a dive bar outside of Forks. As soon as I got out of my car my nose was assaulted with the scent of burned sugar and bleech."
"Vampires." Seth blushed, he had obviously not meant to speak out loud.
Old Quil nodded his head , "Yes vampires. There was a group of four leaning against the building in the shadows. My insides burned, I doubled over and my body started to shake. The vampires quickly surrounded me thinking I was an easy meal. I heard them arguing over who was going to suck me dry and I was sure I was going to die. Luckily Harrison was there. He killed the vampires and carried me into the woods out of sight where I phased for the first time. I knew immediately what I was, growing up the son of the shaman I was raised to believe the ledgends as truth. Harrison stayed with me for three days until I was calm enough to phase back then drove me back to the reservation. Six months later Harrison found me in the woods patrolling around La Push and asked me to help him take out a group of demons officially beginning our alliance. "
"Why did you never inform the council of your transformation?" Billy asked trying very hard to maintain a sense of calm.
"I told my father the day I returned home after my first transformation. He told me the spirits warned him long ago that I was destined to fight against darkness and evil. He told me my path would lead me away from La Push but would always bring me back. That night I was visited again by the woman who thanks to Harrison I knew was Lachesis his sister of fate. She told me I would have to keep my wolf a secret until our family of Light was complete and our bond was strong enough to face any obstacle. Yesterday after talking to Bella I decided once Drustan and Harrison arrived I would tell everyone that I was a wolf. I was going to tell you all at the meeting before Paul managed to Fuck everything up."
"So that explains how you were able to tell us so much about controlling our wolves." Sam said more to himself than Old Quil.
"Why weren't we able to hear you in the pack mind after you phased?" Jared asked speaking for the first time.
Old Quil turned to look at the young man who he had forgotten was even there. Old Quil weighed his next words very carefully, he knew his next statement would not be taken well.
"Though I have always protected the tribe I am not a member of the La Push pack. My wolf is tied to the Warriors of Light and they are able to hear me when I am in wolf form. They have and always will be my pack."
Billy was outraged his blood boiled and his vision went red, if he were a wolf he would have phased the instant those words left Old Quil's lips.
"You are Quileute! Your loyalty should always be first and foremost to the tribe. You will submitt to your rightful alpha and chief, it is only because of our ancestors that you can phase in the first place!" Billy shouted blood pounding in his ears.
The effect from his words was instantaneous. Bella shifted Old Quil behind her crouching protectively with Drustan and Harrison mirroring her on his sides effectively surrounding him. The air around them crackled with green, blue, and silver. No one would ever be making Old Quil submitt to anyone.
Sam, Jared, and Seth tensed; fierce growls rumbled from their chests while once again Embry and Quil stood between their pack brothers and Bella.
Jacob remained still in his position against the wall. He knew exactly what Old Quil was and was well aware of the fact that he would not be able to force him to submitt even if he wanted to, which he didnt. Jacob saw how much Bella depended on the old man and would never hurt her by forcing him away from her. Once again he was putting her first even though it it was blatantly obvious she had no feelings for him.
"I am the white wolf and will submitt to know one." Quil's voice was quite but it cut through the room like a knife.
Billy gasped and Old Quil continued, "I don't think I have to remind you that you are no longer chief and have no authority to order anyone around. That responsibility falls to your son and I can only assume by his lack of surprise that he has already connected me to the ledgends. "
Jacob nodded and the Warriors relaxed pulling their lights back inside their bodies while the pack looked on in confisoon.
"There is an old prophecy passed down from a time before Emphirium's pack about a wolf whose coat was whiter than the purest snow. This wolf would always be alpha of its self and it's pack would be unlike any before it. This wolf and it's pack would bring light in a time of great darkness to the tribe." Jacob explained.
Any further conversation was cut off by a panicked Charlie Swan yelling for his daughter
"Bella!"
I winced at the sound of my father's voice.
I am not looking forward to this.
"He's your father and he loves you no matter what." Drustan offered making me wonder if I had spoken out loud but knowing Drustan he just knew what what I was thinking like always.
"Bella!" Charlie shout was accompanied by the sound of the opening and closing of doors.
I felt Drustan gently push me forward and barely resisted the urge to dig my heels into the floor .
"Go on lass were right here." Harrison quietly reassured me.
"Down here Dad." I reluctantly called standing at the bottoms of the stairs.
Charlie's footsteps thundered as he raced down the steps. Before I could say anything he began frantically patting me down police style only I stead of weapons he was searching for injuries.
"Oh my god Bella are you okay? I saw that monster over you and thought you were a goner!"
His movements increased in speed as he grabbed my arm twisting and turning it making sure to veiw it from all possible angles. Satisfied it was in one piece he switched to the other.
"Are you sure your okay I saw it bite you!"
"Dad I'm fine." Charlie continued as of I hadn't spoken pushing my shoulder to spin me around so he could continue his inspection.
"I must of passed out or something I'm-"
"Dad."
"can't believe the size of that thing it was big than a horse-"
"Dad I-" again my voice fell on deaf ears his speech was coming out rushed and feantic.
"going to need to call animal control hopefully it's some strange mutation. While I was out I had this crazy dream where there were more of them and these superheroes were fighting themnoff."
I didn't need our bond to know that Drustan was eating up the super hero comment.
"Dad I have to-"
"Turn around, are you sure your okay? Do you have a fever?" he asked quickly pressing the back of his hand to my forehead.
This was getting ridiculous I was attacked by a wolf not the influenza virus. I felt like a five year old visiting my crazy aunt who wiped dirt off of my face with spit and her thumb. I grabbed Charlie by the wrists stalling his moments and by some miracle his mouth.
"Dad relax I'm fine but I want to introduce you to a couple of people."
Charlie looked up noticing that we were not alone for the first time. His eyes scanned the crowded rooms his eyebrows furrowing as he took in the members of the tribe. When his gaze reached Drustan, Harrison, and Old Quil he gasped and tightly squeezed my arm. Very slowly he bent his head so his mouth was only inches from my ear.
"Can you see them too?" he whispered shakily.
"See who Charlie there's no one there but my grandfather. " Quil called from his seat around the table.
If looks could kill Quil would have been dead ten times over from the murderous glare I aimed at him.
"Ignore him Charlie that's what we all do." Embry said sending his own dirty look at Quil who at least had the good sense to look ashamed of himself.
"Dad they're who I want to introduce you too." I kept my voice low and calm keeping his eyes locked on mine. Grabbing his hand I led him over to where Harrison Harrison and Drustan were waiting.
"Is he wearing a kilt? Whose the guy that looks like Thor?" Charlie whispered out of his mouth.
My lips twitched as I fought to hold back a laugh. I was so used to seeing them this way I hadn't realized both Drustan and Harrison were still wearing their armour. Thankfully they weren't wearing their weapons, one look at Drustan's battle Axe and Charlie might have had a heartattack.
"I'll get to their outfits in a minute. I'd like to introduce you to Harrison Mackinnon."
Harrison held out his hand and Charlie stared at it for a minute reminding me of of how I reacted to Harrison when we were first introduced. I squeezed the hand I still held hoping to reassure him that everything was fine. I knew he was connecting their faces to what he thought was a dream or hallucination and his mind would be kicked into over drive trying to connect the dots while trying to make excuses to reason away the supernatural aspects onto something logical.
"It's nice to finally meet you Chief Swan." Harrison in his deep scottish burr holding his hand still allowing Charlie to close the gap like you would a skittish animal. Finally after another heartbeat of hesitation I saw my dad shake the hand of the man who had become after another father to me in all but blood. In his usual Charlie fashion a nod and a grunt was his eloquent response bringing a smile to my face. I wouldn't want him to be any other way.
"And this is Drustan Mortenson. " I said doing my best impression of those girls on the 'Price Is Right' revealing what was hidden behind curtain number one.
"Oh and please don't compare him to Thor anymore his ego is already hard enough to control."
"Oh Angel you wound me." Drustan cried dramatically clutching his hands over his heart stumbling back into the counter behind him.
"Angel?" Charlie asked pointing his finger at Drustan and looking back and forth between us in rapid sucession.
"Wait are you two-"
"Dad who don't you take a seat I have soemthing important to tell you." I interupted.
"Are you pregnant? Did you get my daughter pregnant?" Charlie shouted stepping into Drustan's personal and just like that over protective Charlie was back.
"What? Dad no I'm definitely not pregnant!" I cried willing my face not blush only to have my body ignore my wishes.
Drustan held his hands up in surrender, Jacob growled and Old Quil laughed making him the next target of Charlie's anger.
"Something funny about this?" he snapped.
Most people at this point would start to back pedal shake their head and say no but my grandfather had a mischievous side rivaling Drustan and never quite knew when to leave well enough alone.
"If you knew him like I do you'd definitely see what's so funny." he laughed amused.
"You two know each other?" Charlie asked clearly not as amused as Old Quil.
I mentally sighed that wasn't exactly the lead in I was hoping for but it would have to do.
"That's part of what I want to tell you so sit down."
I waited for Charlie to take a seat relieved that he was next to Embry and not Quil.
"Okay this might take awhile and you're going to have a lot of questions but please let me finish before you say anything and try to keep an open mind."
Straightening my shoulders I told him the story of the Moiria and why they chose the first warriors. My voice sounded sure and confident but inside I was anything but with help of Harrison and Drustan Charlie was told everything from how we no longer age, our control over the elements, and everything in between except the involvement of the Cullens. That was one topic I refused to discuss especially in front of so many people. I wanted no one's pity. To his credit Charlie remained silent for the entire duration of our story but it was apparent from the look on his face that he thought we were crazy.
"Sooo...that wolf was a demon? How did I manage to kill it with a bullet then?" Charlie asked in asked in the tone an adult would use asking a child about their imaginary friend.
"That wasn't a demon." I answered.
"Well what did I shoot then?"
"Bella. You shot Bella Charlie."
"Quil!"
"I didn't not shoot my daughter!" Charlie and I yelled at the same time.
"I think I need to tell you a little about my tribe."
I was grateful for Billy's interruption it kept me from having to beat some sense I to Quil.
"Actually Charlie this is something you have to see to believe." Jacob said with a mischievous grin and my stomach did a few flips.
Damn him for being so adorable.
With a little coaxing Charlie reluctantly agreed to follow everyone outside where Quil excitedly volunteered to phase. With out any warning Quil exploded sending Charlie crashing to his butt in shock. Drustan's laughter was cut short by a swift elbow to the ribs from me. Charlie sat wide eyed starring at the large chocolate wolf before him. Billy used his moment of silence to tell him the condensed version of the Quileute tribal ledgemds.
Quil loving the fact that he was the center of attention yippef and jumped acting like an over grown golden retriever. When he started chasing his tail I couldn't hold back my laughter any longer. Quil crouched low his front legs his tail raissed high wagging rapidly and let out a playful growl.
Charlie scrambled to his feet pushing me behind his body.
"Bella get away from that things it's dangerous!" he scolded bringing back a memory of the reaction Charlie had to the time I tried to bribe a raccoon to be my pet with hot dogs.
"Dad that thing is Quil and he's not dangerous he's completely himself only in wolf form."
To prove my point I walked over and scratched the chocolate wolf behind the ear. Quil practically purred in contentment leaning into my touch.
"If that's true then why was that other wolf attacking you?"
"That was Paul and as you saw yesterday he's not exactly my biggest fan."
Charlies face turned red and I heard his heart rate increase
"Where the he'll is my gun? Where the he'll did you throw my gun old man?" Charlie roared turning on Old Quil.
"What do you need your gun for?"
"To shoot the bastard again for attacking my daughter!" he yelled .
"Actually you shot me the first time. I saw you aim at Paul and rolled him out of the way."
I winced as Charlie Swan hit the ground for a third time thankfully remaining conscious this time.
"How is that possible you aren't even hurt?"
"One of the things we can do as Warrior of Light is heal, so I removed the bullet and Drustan healed my wound."
Charlie rested his elbows on his knees and ran his trembling hands through his hair. He looked like he was about to have a heart attack.
"Who else can turn into a giant wolf?"
Charlie seemed both surprised and horrified when Billy revealed that Seth and Leah were both back mebers. He looked relieved that Billy was not part of the pack and guessed the truth about Old Quil from his memories the fight. I was proud at how well my father was holding himself together. The fact that he trusted me enough to even listen let alone entertain the possibility of what he'd heard was real warmed my heart. I had dreaded this moment for six years partly because of the danger it could possibly put him in but mainly because his rejection would have killed a part of me.
I was so lost in my own thoughts I didn't notice the sly glinting in Quil's eye before I felt a warm wet wolf tongue smack against my face leaving a slobber trail from my jaw to my hair line.
"Disgusting!" I yelled jumping away from Quil trying to deslobber myself.
"There is something seriously wrong with the Aterra men." I grumbled.
"It only gets worse the older we get!" Old Quil laughed always willing to be the but of a joke.
"Age...wait if you phased thirty years ago why are you so old?" Seth asked sounding very Quil like.
I was actually surprised that none of the other wolves had asked that question before then but in their defense it had been one hell of a morning.
"We're not sure why I've aged when the rest of the packs were not able to. We think it may have something to do with me being the white wolf or possibly being the only wolf of my generation to phase."
"So not every generation will turn into wolves?" Charlie asked.
I knew his police nature had kicked in and he was now trying to obtain as much information as possible.
"The gene that houses the wolf is only activated by the presence of vampires. The bigger the threat the bigger the pack. Our generation was lucky there was no need for a pack. We hoped it would be the same for our children until the Cullens came back." Billy spat the name of the "peaceful" coven.
"The Cullens? What the hell do they have to do with this?" Charlie asked clearly confused.
Oh no.
"The Cullens are vampires Charlie. "
"Vampires..." he whispered with wide eyes.
Charlie whirled in my direction a cloud of anger, hurt, and fear shone from his eyes.
"Did you know? Did you know they were vampires?" he asked.
I could tell he was hoping that I would say no. That I wouldn't tell him that I willingly spent my time kissing a blood sucking corpse. I wanted to tell him no that I had no idea that they were monsters. I wanted to tell him that I had no choice, that I only made all of those horrible and hurtful decisions back then because I was being controlled by a group of manipulative vampires but I couldnt. In truth it wasn't that I couldn't tell him it was that I wouldnt. Only three people knew what they did to me and I wasn't ready to add to that number. I wasn't sure if I'd ever be ready to, not to mention the fact that I refused to reveal the truth to Jacob who was only ten feet away looking at me with nothing less than complete disgust.
"Yes. " I meant to sound sure and confident but only ended up managing a broken whisper.
"You knew what they were and you still chose to be involved with him?" Charlie asked incredulously.
"I knew."
"Since you're finally being honest why don't you tell him who was so important that you were willing to abandon everyone who cared about you without a second thought. Why don't you tell Charlie why you disappeared all those years ago."
Jacob's words cut through me like a knife and the gloating look of satisfaction on his face twisted it deeper into my heart. I closed my eyes as ice ran through my veins leaving me hollow and frozen, trapped in my memories.
The fist time I got lost in these golden amber eyes. The first time my hand brushed against his marble skin. The first time his ice cold lips pressed into mine. The memories started to come faster and more sporadic. Waking up and feeling like someone had been watching me. Alice and Jasper fleeing with me to Phenoix. Edward climbing into my window after Charlie fell asleep. Waking up in a hospital bed and my only fear being that Edward was going to leave me. James snapping my leg. Edward leading me into the woods to rip a jagged whole in my chest with his piercing my flesh venom burning under my skin.
With every memory my heart rate rose, my light burned and I couldn't tell what was real and what wasn't. Was there venom pulsing through my veins? Was I back in the Cullens clutches? Had the darkness finally claimed me?
No. I would not let them take me. Warmth fought against the ice under my skin as my warrior sprang free. The ground beneath my feet soaked up my light like a sponge waiting to be commanded.
Jasper lunging at me from across the room because of a paper cut. Red eyes inches away from my face taunting me. Laying in the fetal position lost in the forest praying for death.
{Bella! Bella it's not real! You're safe, you're free!}
No! He can't be in my head, that's the only place he can't touch me. I can't let him in I'll never escape if he has my mind too.
The earth responded to my fear and distress rumbling and shaking under my feet.
{Angel it's me Drustan. It's not real. What you're seeing is not real. I'm here, you're safe. I need you to come back to me Angel. Your Dad is here and your starting to scare him.}
{Charlie?}
{Yes Charlie is here, now come back Angel, come back to us.}
Drustan's plea and mention of my father was enough to release me from my mental prison.
"The Cullens. I left because of the Cullens." I s whispered answering Jacob's accusation.
I opened my eyes to see the horrifies expressions on everyone's face before sprinting off in a blur hoping to out run my pain, knowing that I never would.
Darness. Fear. Pain. That's what I lived on. With every cry of pain, every sob of despair, every scream of terror my power grew. I walked down the pitch black corridor past the bodies of creatures (both light and dark) chained to the wall in various stages of injury and death. The smell of urine, blood, venom, decay, infection, and most importantly fear filled the stone hallway. Even the strongest of demons spoke of this place in hushed tones and frightened whispers afraid that they might find themselves making a one way pit toothed deepest pit of hell it's self.
Taking a deep breath I smiled, this was my domain. I came to two large stone doors the guards rushed to open the doors before he reached them knowing the punishment for making me pause for even a moment. I was disappointed when the doors swung open just in time, I would have enjoyed slowly stripping the flesh from their bodies.
My disappointment was quickly replaced by excitement as I took in the sight that greated me in the room beyond the doors. My newest prisoner had caused more problems than I'd like to admit, I'd lost over a dozen of my dark servants during his capture. My demons had underestimated the lone shifter, I would not make the same mistake.
"Are you enjoying your stay?"
I fought the urge to laugh as the prisoner struggled against the chains that held them flush against the stone wall.
The fool.
The entire dungeon was carved from obsidian with razor sharp edges protruding from the surface. With every movement the the prisoner caused the rock to slice ragged gashes into their skin.
"Struggling is pointless the only way you will be walking out of here is if you give me the information I need."
As I expected my words were met with a fierce glare.
"It has come to my attention that you are very familiar with the Bellatores De Lumine. So familiar in fact it is rumored that you are the unclaimed mate to one of the three. I want you to tell me where I can find them."
"Fuck you!" The prisoner shouted yanking on their restraints.
"Typical. ..I was so hoping you'd be more original. " I walked to the center or the room and stood to my full height.
"I know the truth your mate rejected your bond, you are not wanted. So I'm going to ask you a question and you're going to answer it. If you don't I'm going to show you how I became the master of darkness and in between your pitiful screams I'm going to ask you again. Do you understamd?"
My victim was braver than I had thought. Very few could even be in my presence with out trembling in fear yet here they were with fury rippling out of their every and chin raised high defiantly.
"You may be entertaining after all."
"No matter what you do I will never tell you anything."
My lips turned up I to a cruel smile promising pain.
" I was so hoping you would say that." I laughed gleefully rubbing my hands together.
Screams echoed through the dungeon as the interagation began.
For the first time in six years Edward Cullen had a smile on his face. He felt her. It had been years since he had any sign of where that bitch was hiding and now he'd found her. He'd make her regret the day she turned her back on him. Pulling out his cell phone he quickly dialed and brought the phone to his ear.
"Edward I saw what happened are you alright?"
He knew Alice would be keeping an eye on him with her gift she had always been extremely protective of him.
"I'm fine. I should have known what would happen, the good news is the plan is a go. Call the family, tell them it's time to get her." he didn't even try to hide his excitement, they'd been waiting a long time for this.
"Where should I tell them were going?"
He smiled at the irony of her location everything was coming full circle.
"Forks Washington."
