A/N- Sorry for the long delay I have no excuse except that life sometimes gets in the way of writing. Here is chapter 9 I hope you all enjoy!
Drustan knew was happening the moment she closed her eyes. Bella was having an episode. She started having them not long after she began her training, at first everyone just assumed that she was having nightmares. Drustan couldnt blame her, he'd woken up more than once with a scream in his throat and images of those fangers using and manipulating her, or flashes of what could had happened if they hadn't gotten to her in time in his mind. Nightmares would have been a blessing compared to the reality.
After a very terrifying episode Harrison went to the sisters for help. They were horrified by what he was told. All of them assumed that once the link created by Edwards venom was broken when Bella came into her powers but because she was bitten so close to her coming of age that the link was only weakened not destroyed. Thankfully the more control she gained over her powers the less frequent the episodes became, she hadn't had one in close to a year.
Old Quil cursed when her warrior sprang free.
"Drustan pull her back." Harrison ordered.
The three of them felt her light sink into the ground as Drustan clutched her shoulders.
"Bella! Bella it's not real! You're safe! You're free!" he shouted into her mind.
"Shit! She thinks I'm him!" Drustan boomed Drustan over his shoulder.
"Try speaking to her out loud too!" Old Quil called back.
Bella's heartbeat began to race and the ground began to shake and roll.
"What the hell is happening to her?" Charlie shouted trying to push past Old Quil to get to get to his daughter, his eyes wide with fear.
"Drustan pull her back now!" Old Quil roared pushing Charlie back causing the man to crash to the ground.
"Bella!" Quil and Embry yelled rushing forward only to be blocked by Harrison.
"Stay back!" Harrison bellowed.
"Get out of my way!" Jacob thundered shoving Harrison in the chest causing Old Quil to snarl and push the young alpha hard.
Jacob only moved backwards a few inches before he was back pushing towards Bella.
"Stay back Jacob You'll only make this worse!" Old Quil pleaded.
"Let me through!"
Harrison used his powers to create a wall of wind between the Warriors and everyone else. Jacob and Charlie both fought hard against the wind but couldnt make any progress.
Drustan pushed away the chaos that surrounded tham and focused all of his attention on Bella. He let his light envelope them both blending and swirling with Bella's.
"Angel it's me, Drustan." He spoke Into her mind and out loud waitng a moment for her to recognize him before continuing.
"It's not real. What you're seeing and feeling is not real. I'm real. I'm here and you're safe."
Everyone stilled as the ground quieted slightly and Harrison lessened the roaring wall of wind to a strong breeze as everyone froze waiting to see what would happen next. He believed in Drustan and Bella he believed in their bond.
Drustan stepped forward and wrapped Bella in a crushing hug pushing his strength I to her through the bond. He hated seeing her like this, Bella was his best friend, his soul's twin.
"I need you to come back to me Angel. You're dad's here and youre scaring him."
Charlie! she exclaimed I to his mind.
"Yes Charlie is here, now come back to us, come back to me."
Drustan held her as the ground stilled and her heart beat began to slow. Her chest heaved as she gulped in air like someone who was drowning. He turned slightly to block her from everyone's veiw. He began rubbing slow circles on her back and her breathing slowly evened out. He only released her when he nodded her head against him and pushed her hands against his chest, taking a step back. He marveled at her strength when she turned and faced the shocked pack.
"The Cullens. I left because of the Cullens." she whispered before sprintng away in a blur.
"Would somebody please tell me what the fuck just happened!" Charlie roared.
It was obvious the man was moments away from a nervous breakdown.
"What you saw is what we call an episode." Harrison paused just long enough to glance at Drustan who gave a slight shake of his head telling him not to reveal too much.
Harrison sent his understanding through the bond and turned to face Bella's very frazzled father.
"The episode s are a side effect from a very traumatic experience Bella has gone through. It causes her to become trapped in her own mind and relieve her memories. She will try to fight it which is why the earth was affected, it was trying to protect her from an invisible foe." Harrison explained.
"Is she okay?" Embry and Quil asked simultaneously.
"Physically she's fine, but these episodes leave her mentally drained."
"Does this mean she's crazy?" Jared asked with a smirk.
"It means that she is forced to relive the most horrific events of her life! Not just remember, relive them, as if she is physically there. Every cut, every scream, every moment of heart ache or fear like it was the first time." Drustan snapped fighting the urge to knock the smile right off the shifters face.
"Dear god..." Billy whispered.
He had beem angry with Bella for hurting his son but he had always loved her and deep down wanted her to be happy, even if it was with a leech. It made him sick to think of what could have possibly happened to the poor girl to cause her to have these episodes.
Charlie Swan had reached his breaking piont. His whole world had been turned upside down and sideways; everything he thought he knew was wrong and things he would have thought unimaginable were now his reality. Demons, werewolves, vampires, darkness, and his daughter chosen to save the world. How was this even possible? His first reaction was to completely deny everything he was being told but he knew his daughter, she was so much like him and would never make up something like this. He couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that his daughter was exposed to what he believed to be creatures from someone's nightmares. The thought that they really existed was scary but the fact that his baby girl fought them was terrifying. Even worse, something so terrible had happened to her that it caused her to get trapped in her own mind.
"How often does this happen to her?" Charlie asked, a very large part of him was angry that he had to ask other people such an important question about his daughter.
"It started years ago. At first we thought she was just having nightmares. She would wake up screaming with out any idea of where she was. Then one night the screaming began but she didn't wake up. We tried everything to break through the sleep. We tried to heal her we even attempted to have her cross over to the realm of the fates but nothing worked. She stayed trapped for days. It was one of the worst experiences of my life and I've lived a long time and seen things others couldn't imagine. I still hear her screams in my sleep." Harrison paused and ran a shaking hand through his hair.
"Thankfully because of their bond Drustan was finally able to break through to her and pull her back to us. Over time as her powers grew the episodes became less frequent, it's been over a year since the last one."
"If it's been that long what could have caused this one?" Billy asked.
"I think it was a lot of different things. Her being back here after so long, the reaction from the pack, being after way from Drustan and I for such after way long period, the fight with Paul, revealing the truth to Charlie, discussing the Cullens."
"What do the Cullens have to do with this?" Charlie snapped sick of hearing their name.
Harrison took a deep breath, he wanted nothing more than to tell Bella's father the truth about those monsters but she knew her stance on the subject. She didn't want anyone to find out the truth (especially Jacob) and he would never betray her like that.
"The Cullens are a very...sensitive subject for Bella." Harrison answered at a loss for better words.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me!"
Charlie jumped at Jacob's loud out burst.
"After all this time she still hasn't gotten over him? Before it was zombie catatonic Bella and now she's so broken she's having these episodes or whatever the hell you called them!"
Drustan was beyond furious at Jacob's words.
"Who do you think you are? How dare you talk about her that way!" Drustan shouted turning to face the alpha.
"Drustan." Harrison warned grabbing his shoulder hoping to calm the warrior some, knowing that it was pointless. As he expected Drustan shook off his hand and stood to his full height and surrounding himself in his light. Power crackled as the sky darkened as thunder rumbled in the distance.
Normally Harrison would have stepped in and tried to stop his young friend but he knew when it came to Bella trying to interfere would only make things worse.
Drustan marched up to Jacob stopping only when his face was inches from his own.
"The only reason you're not screaming in pain right now is because you didn't know your little stunt would do that to her." Drustan spat.
"You're saying this is my fault?" Jacob asked incredulously.
"I know this was your fault. I'm not going to play the polite game like Harrison, Bella's episode was caused by you. It wasn't just the fact that you put her on the spot about about the Cullens it was the fact that you enjoyed hurting her when you did it."
"Who do you think you are blaming this on me! She left me! She chose to follow those monsters across the globe whatever happened she brought It on herself!" Jacob shouted lashing out at the pain Drustan's words caused.
"You know nothing Jacob Black!" Drustan roared clenching his fists as lightening crashed over their heads.
"You have no idea what she's been through! I'm only going to say this once if you ever hurt Bella again I will personally make sure that you feel the wrath of a Bellatore De Lumine. " at his words Drustan unleashed the power crackling against his skin surrounding everyone except Harrison, Old Quil, and Charlie. Lightning crashed and thunder boomed as his light pushed down on them with the pressure of the ocean.
"Bella is my soul twin and I will protect her from everything, even you Jacob Black. And before you do any more damage trust me when I say when it comes to the Cullens you have no idea what your talking about."
Drustan slowly released the pressure that was keeping the pack immobile but allowed the sky to scream his anger.
"Now I'm going to find Bella, you know how upsets she gets after an episode and I've wasted enough time here." he called to Harrison over his shoulder his eyes never leaving Jacob.
"We'll go with you." Old Quil answered coming to stand at his shoulder.
Old Quil shot Jacob a disappointed look as he placed a hand on Drustan's shoulder.
"Let's go she needs you." he said quietly.
Quil watched as his grandfather and the two Warriors disappear into the woods. To say he had underestimated Drustan's powers would be a gross under statment. As a shifter he was strong and fast, he knew he wasn't invincible but was sure that the pack would always be strong enough to defeat anything that threatened the tribe but today shattered that belief. He had assumed the Warrior's powers were similar to those of him and his pack brothers but if Drustan's show of anger was anything tot go by he was dead wrong. He now realized how lucky Paul was to be alive. Both Bella and Drustan had granted him mercy when they could have killed him so easily.
Embry was also thinking about the Warriors of Light but his thoughts mainly focused on Bella and how unfairly she'd been treated since she returned. She had been shunned since the moment she arrived then Paul had to go and attack her. Now after witnessing her go through something so terrible Jacob's first reaction was jealousy and anger. She deserved better, he was worried about her. From Bella confiding the truth about why she left this morning and Harrison's vague answers he guessed the Cullens were what caused Bella to begin having episodes.
Bella was his friend before she left and he felt terrible that he thought the worst of her for years. After this morning he had promised himself that he would be a better friend to her this time around, and as her friend all he wanted to do was make sure she was okay. Embry caught Quil's eye and tossed his head in the direction the Warriors disappeared. Quil gave a quick nod and they turned to head into the forest.
They only made it a few steps before Jake called out to them.
"Where do you think you two are going?"
Quil debated on answering with a snarky comment but decided it would probably be best to let Embry handle the talking.
"We're going to make sure Bella's okay." Embry amswered.
"Why would you want to do that? She already has someone running to pick up the pieces. " Jacob scoffed throwing his arm out in the direction Drustan left.
Embry who was always known for keeping a cool head was quickly loosing his patience with his best friend.
"We're her friends, she needs to know that we're here for her."
"Since when are you two so concerned about Bella Swan? All day you've defended her, you even went as far to attack your own pack member."
"And I'd do it again in a heartbeat, Leah was trying to kill her!" Quil snapped.
"You two are going down a dark path. You may care about her but Bella only cares about two things, herself and Edward Cullen, today proved that. I should order you both to stay away from her for your own good."
A gold Ring began to form around Embry's irises as his wolf snarled for release. He felt the heat pouring off of Quil as he pushed his own wolf down.
""Go ahead make the order but the moment you do your dead to me." Embry spat.
No one dared to breathe as the three best friend's glared at one another waiting to see what Jacob would do.
"I won't order you, if you two want to get hurt so be it but your little love fest will have to wait you're both on patrol for the next twelve hours." Ignoring the looks of anger and disappointment from his father and Charlie, Jacob turned on his heel and left.
